Mantra
Mantra is a type of skill shared by the Mesmer and Firebrand professions. After an initial preparation (2 ¼ cast time), mantras gain charges which can be consumed to cast their skill. These charges replenish over time, but consuming the final charge will place the mantra on cooldown and the mantra will have to be prepared again.
Mesmer mantras produce a powerful effect when prepared, and have two charges. The mesmer will have to decide whether it's worth to consume the second charge and place the mantra on cooldown in exchange for again having access to the powerful effect upon mantra preparation once it comes off cooldown.
Firebrand mantras do not produce effects when prepared, but they have three charges, with the final charge producing a considerably stronger skill. The firebrand will have to decide whether it's worth to consume the final more powerful charge in exchange for placing the mantra on cooldown and having to prepare it again. In PvE maps, Firebrand mantras will automatically prepare when out of combat and not on cooldown.

- A mantra is a phrase repeated to assist concentration during meditation, originally in Hinduism.
- The May 11, 2021 game update removed the mantra preparation, they were always in the "ready" mode, storing up uses. Firebrand mantra charges were all equally strong. Mesmer mantras lost their additional bonuses since mantras could no longer be prepared.
- The February 14, 2023 game update reverted these changes. It also improved the preparation effect of mesmer mantras, and made firebrand mantras automatically prepare when out of combat and not on cooldown.
