Caithe
“I'll do you a favor. You can't trust Caithe. She's not the perfect bloom she pretends to be.
Caithe is a sylvari Firstborn of the Cycle of Night, and a member of Destiny's Edge. While most sylvari are creatures of light, Caithe has never feared gazing into darkness to seek truths others fear as she shares a troubled past with Grand Duchess Faolain of the Nightmare Court. A Valiant of the Pale Tree, Caithe was given the Wyld Hunt to slay the Elder Dragon Zhaitan.
In 1328 AE, Caithe takes the dragon prophet Glint's egg and flees into the Heart of Maguuma with it. She is eventually found by the Pact Commander who takes the egg and slays the corrupted Faolain. Later, in 1331 AE, she is bonded to the adolescent dragon Aurene, gaining a new, prismatic appearance and Aurene's blessing. She joins Dragon's Watch by 1335 AE.[1] |
Biography[edit]
Early years[edit]
Love and Nightmare[edit]
When the sylvari race was young, most of the Firstborn stayed in the Grove to tend the Pale Tree, but Caithe and Faolain dared to see the world.[2] Over time, they established a deep bond and became lovers. While exploring Orr, they encountered the Nightmare; Caithe shied away from it, but Faolain embraced it, planting the beginning of a rift that would form between them over time.[verification requested]
A sister's burden[edit]
Caithe and Faolain returned to the Grove when the Pale Tree had begun producing a new generation of sylvari in greater numbers. The Firstborn had a meeting to discuss these Newly Awakened although each Firstborn had different ideas about how to handle them with some offering to name them Secondborn while others objected to such categorization. At some point Caithe witnessed Cadeyrn's argument with the Pale Tree and how the Tree ultimately ignored Cadeyrn's concerns to break away from the tenets of Ventari's Tablet. When Cadeyrn demanded to be heard due to being the first of the Secondborn, Caithe told him that to the Pale Tree there were only Firstborn and the rest were merely sylvari. Caithe's remark angered Cadeyrn who swore to make the Pale Tree listen to him before he stormed off and left Caithe alone to watch him go.[2] When news reached the Firstborn that the asura had kidnapped some of the Secondborn and taken them deep into Metrica Province to experiment on them, Caithe and Faolain were asked to go investigate the matter as they had traveled the farthest out of all the sylvari. At this time, Cadeyrn first spoke to Faolain about forming the Nightmare Court, although it was not called that at the time. Caithe and Faolain rescued the Secondborn that they could, including Canach, from Vorpp although the asura researcher successfully fled their wrath. The pair then headed to the Silverwastes to learn their fellow Firstborn Wynne's secret, which Faolain was obsessing over, and met the Maguuma centaur tribe who Wynne was staying with. An incident occurred between the centaurs and Faolain and provoked by the latter, and Faolain and Caithe slaughtered the tribe with help from Cadeyrn and other to-be Nightmare Courtiers who had secretly been following them under Faolain's orders. Faolain and Caithe pursued Wynne to a nearby cave, cornering her there and demanding answers. When Wynne remained reluctant to reveal the information she was hiding, Faolain left to gather some needles to torture the answer out of Wynne, making Caithe watch over the fugitive Firstborn. While Faolain was gone, Wynne revealed her secret to Caithe, explaining why no one could ever know the terrifying truth about sylvari origins, and asked to be killed so Faolain could not torture the information out of her. Caithe obliged and stabbed Wynne, holding her sister's lifeless body in her arms and lamenting what she had done. Faolain returned shortly afterwards and believed that Caithe had murdered Wynne without remorse, and Caithe did nothing to dissuade her from the thought. The incident, as well as Faolain's growing interest in the Nightmare, caused a rift between the lovers and made them part ways. However, Faolain was convinced that Caithe's heart was as dark as hers and tried to convince Caithe to join her ever since. Now carrying Wynne's heavy burden, Caithe adopted her sister's hairstyle and changed her clothing to act as a reminder of the tragedy of the Silverwastes. |
Edge of Destiny[edit]
Caithe first met with the human Logan Thackeray and the charr Rytlock Brimstone in Ascalon in 1319 AE after the two were fighting each other and were subsequently ambushed by ogres led by Chief Kronon who was hunting the pair to avenge the death of his son Chiefling Ygor. After escaping Kronon's ogres, the trio entered a ruined underground dwarven city where they were attacked by the destroyers which had sensed their presence. Upon activating a malfunctioning asura gate, Caithe sang a song to the Pale Tree so the Tree could help prolong the contact and made it possible for the trio to enter the gate and escape the Destroyers to the countyside near Lion's Arch where they defeated a few Destroyers which had managed to follow them there.[3]
The trio were inadvertently imprisoned by the Lionguard when Logan and Rytlock's fight over the latter's sword Sohothin caused property damage. Their billets were bought by Captain Magnus Irondawn, and the three fought as a team in Lion's Arch's gladiatorial arena under the name Edge of Steel to earn their freedom. They were undefeated until a group called Dragonspawn's Destiny—which included the norn Eir Stegalkin, the dire wolf Garm, and the asura Snaff and Zojja—bested them. The victors commissioned the trio to join forces with them to help them defeat the Dragonspawn, a champion of the Elder Dragon Jormag.[4]
Upon their success, they combined their respective groups' names and formed Destiny's Edge. The new guild continued to adventure together, successfully hunting down other dragon champions such as the Destroyer of Life and Morgus Lethe and becoming famous throughout Tyria. During these events, Caithe was hit with a volatile poison. Faolain, now Grand Duchess of the Nightmare Court, tried again to convince Caithe to join with her, but realized that Caithe would rather die than turn. Faolain ultimately drew the poison out of Caithe's body, permanently scarring her hand to save her former lover's life. Still, Caithe refused to go back with her. This would not dissuade Faolain from trying to win her over in the future, however. Caithe mourned Faolain's fall to Nightmare but received comforting words from Snaff who suggested that Caithe could not save her lover; only Faolain could save herself once she remembered what Caithe really meant for her.[5]
In 1320 AE, Faolain sought out Caithe and, in an attempt to sway her to her side, informed her that the previous struggles of Destiny's Edge against dragon champions had amounted to nothing as the Elder Dragons would continue to rise. According to Faolain, the Nightmare Court had learned that Glint, a legendary dragon prophet from the Crystal Desert who had aided humanity in the past, had kept her loyalties concealed and was preparing for the rise of Kralkatorrik as his champion. Caithe delivered the troubling news to her companions in Destiny's Edge who were torn about the reveal as they did not trust Faolain and were aware of Glint's actions against the enemies to Tyria in the past. Despite their initial misgivings about Glint's suggested treachery, however, Destiny's Edge resolved to seek out Glint's lair in the Crystal Desert and had the blessing of Queen Jennah, who was equally torn about the decision, to stop Glint before the dragon could help her master return to the world.[6]
Glint had foreseen the coming of Destiny's Edge, however, and waited for them in her lair. The dragon and Destiny's Edge clashed briefly, and she easily defeated the guild during the confrontation. She realized that Destiny's Edge had good intentions and had been led astray, however, so she decided to tell them the truth to end the battle: she had once served Kralkatorrik but would do so no longer and was acting against her former master who would inevitably rise.
Sensing Glint's earnesty, Destiny's Edge was swayed to her side and suggested that she should fight alongside them against Kralkatorrik. Glint was surprised when Eir and Snaff hatched a plan to use the Dragonsblood Spear and Kralkatorrik's crystalline blood, which Glint had gathered in her lair, to subdue the Elder Dragon for the finishing blow. Realizing that they might be able to stop Kralkatorrik as long as they worked together to use their respective strengths in battle, Glint chose to fight alongside Destiny's Edge.
As Glint had foreseen, Kralkatorrik awoke once more and sought her out for her betrayal. The sudden departure of Logan Thackeray to protect Queen Jennah in the Ogre Revolt weakened Destiny's Edge, however, but Eir believed in their chances and chose to confront the Elder Dragon according to the original battle plan regardless of Glint's warning. Although at first they were able to stand up to Kralkatorrik, the Elder Dragon proved to be a powerful adversary. Sensing that they only had once chance of defeating her former master, Glint sacrificed herself in Kralkatorrik's jaws to put a yoke Snaff had made from crystallized dragon blood on the Elder Dragon. The established link allowed Snaff to access Kralkatorrik's mind and force him to land while the Elder Dragon was distracted.
However, Logan's absence affected the fighting capabilities of Destiny's Edge. They were unable to protect Snaff from Kralkatorrik's Branded minions which killed Snaff and allowed the Elder Dragon to wrestle free and flee the area before Rytlock Brimstone could use the Dragonsblood Spear to harm him. Having barely survived the battle, Destiny's Edge mourned the loss of Glint and Snaff and disbanded out of grief and anger, leaving their dragon ally where she had fallen. The wounds Kralkatorrik had received in the battle left behind crystallized blood on the sand, however, which Caithe collected in case they could be used against the Crystal Dragon in the future.[7]
Personal story[edit]
Circa 1325 AE, Caithe thwarted an attack on the Dream with the help of an unborn sapling. Together, they defeated a manifestation of the Shadow of the Dragon, a champion of the Jungle Dragon Mordremoth. Grateful for the assistance, Caithe would soon after help the sapling, known as the Valiant, to resolve a vision of their dream. The two become quick friends, sharing as special bond as the only two sylvari whose Wyld Hunt involved Elder Dragons.
Some time later, Caithe, the Valiant, and Firstborn Trahearne were summoned by the Pale Tree to attend a matter of urgency. The Elder Dragon Zhaitan's influence was growing, and its Risen was becoming a dire threat to a Lionguard outpost just outside of Caledon Forest. Realizing the potential threat to her children should the outpost fall, the Pale Tree offered to aid the Orders of Tyria in its defense. But before a single undead would fall, the three organizations became locked in argument, none able to fully win the Pale Tree's support. Naming the Valiant as her Herald, the Pale Tree gave the young sylvari the chance to help the Orders as they saw best for the sylvari.
While the Valiant took point on all the decisions, Caithe offered valuable advice on the side. However, it did not escape her notice the constant bickering between the Orders at every juncture. Despite an imminent threat as dire as the full awakening of an Elder Dragon, the three organizations were incapable of seeing past their differences. And in them, Caithe saw her former guild, now just as fragmented. If Tyria would have a fighting chance against the rising of Zhaitan, she knew, a united force needed to be established, if not the three Orders of Tyria, then at the very least Destiny's Edge.
Calling her former guild mates to a meeting in Lion's Arch, Caithe attempted to rally Destiny's Edge to rise up against the imminent threat of Zhaitan. Sadly, this would be to no avail, as the gathering soon devolved into argument and disarray. Undaunted by her initial failure, Caithe attempted twice more to help the group reconcile their differences, once in Twilight Arbor as she sought the aid of Logan and Rytlock to stop her lover Faolain, and another in the depths of an ancient dwarven mine, Sorrow's Embrace where she and Eir Stegalkin chased after a determined Zojja. However, neither attempts bore fruit, with both leading to the group disbanding part way.
Even after these disastrous setbacks, Caithe persisted in her efforts to reunite her friends. She managed her first breakthrough when she assisted Eir in driving off the Sons of Svanir from a kodan sanctuary ship, the Honor of the Waves. Deep in the frigid halls of the glacier-city, Caithe eventually convinced Eir to return to the guild. Destiny's Edge would reunite just in time to join the Pact force's assault into The Ruined City of Arah, joined by the Pact Commander. First boarding The Humble and taking down multiple dragon champions, the airship was damaged in the battle and Destiny's Edge was forced aboard The Glory of Tyria, which had confronted the Elder Dragon Zhaitan. Utilizing the Pact's weaponry, the forces on The Glory of Tyria finally felled the Elder Dragon, and Caithe had finally completed her Wyld Hunt, witnessing the Elder Dragon fall to its demise.
Living World Season 1[edit]
In 1326 AE, Caithe was invited to the Twilight Arbor by Scarlet Briar who had struck up an alliance with the Nightmare Court and set up a base for the Aetherblades. Scarlet claimed to have learned of some "nasty" indiscretion of Caithe's that not even Faolain knew about, and threatened to reveal it to the world. Scarlet was not present in the base in person, however; she had instead set up a trap and spread the news to lure Caithe in and capture the Firstborn. Scarlet seemed to have some sort of plan for Caithe, but a party led by the Pact Commander defeated the Clockheart and the Aetherblades and freed Caithe before this plan could come to fruition.
Angered by being deceived, Caithe vowed to hunt down Scarlet and began tracking her. Despite this, she never made an appearance when Scarlet launched an open invasion on Lion's Arch and did not witness Scarlet's fall at the hands of the Commander.
Living World Season 2[edit]
The Dragon's Reach: Part 2[edit]
After the destruction of Lion's Arch and the awakening of the Elder Dragon Mordremoth caused by Scarlet's Briar's last act, the Elder Dragon's Mordrem minions began appearing in Central Tyria and attacking various locations. The Pale Tree arranged a world summit in the Grove in 1327 AE to discuss the threat with other notable leaders and representatives. Caithe attended the summit as well and ended up defending the Grove from a sudden invasion of the Mordrem alongside other participants while the Pact Commander faced the Shadow of the Dragon. The dragon champion and its minions were ultimately driven off, but the Pale Tree was gravely injured in the attack and fell unconscious. The attack convinced the leaders to shift their focus and resources on helping the Pact take down Mordremoth.
Echoes of the Past[edit]
Following the assault on the Grove, Caithe reunited with Destiny's Edge and traveled to Camp Resolve in the Silverwastes which the Pact was using as a staging ground in the upcoming assault on Mordremoth. She and Canach accompanied a reconnaissance squad deeper into the Silverwastes to investigate Mordrem movements but ended up in trouble when the Mordrem spotted the squad and fought them. Thanks to the assistance provided by the Commander, they discovered a hive swarming with increasing numbers of Mordrem led by the Mordrem Vinewrath before they had to retreat back to Camp Resolve to report their findings.
Tangled Paths[edit]
When news of Glint's Egg emerged upon finding the Master of Peace, Caithe was immediately interested in the Commander's mission to find the leader of the Zephyrites. Once the Master of Peace was found deep within a labyrinthine cave in the Silverwastes, he was revealed to be carrying the egg. After a battle with the Mordrem which left the Master of Peace fatally wounded, Caithe immediately seized and fled with the egg much to the confusion of the Commander's party.
Point of No Return[edit]
In 1328 AE, the Commander followed Caithe's trail to a remote cave in the Silverwastes with clues provided by the Pale Tree's memory seeds which granted access to Caithe's memories. After witnessing the memory of Caithe learning the secret of the sylvari's origins as minions of Mordremoth, the Commander came face to face with the Firstborn herself. When questioned, Caithe confirmed the truth about the sylvari's origins but refused to hand over the egg while insisting she was on the Commander's side. The conversation was interrupted when the Shadow of the Dragon attacked them in order to seize the egg. While the Commander's party battled and defeated the dragon champion, Caithe fled with the egg once again.
Heart of Thorns[edit]
Act 2[edit]
Caithe's journey with the egg took her deep into the Heart of Maguuma where the Pact fleet eventually crashed into in Mordremoth's surprise assault. She was spotted a few times by the local populace and Pact survivors before both the Commander's party and Faolain, whom Mordremoth had captured and transformed into a monstrous creature, caught up with her. During the ensuing battle Caithe dropped the egg and then later escaped on her own once more while the Commander took the egg to safety in Tarir, the Forgotten City. Caithe witnessed from afar how the city powered up shortly after the egg had been delivered there, and vanished into the jungle.
Act 4[edit]
Caithe met up with the Commander in Dragon's Stand shortly before the rescue of Logan and Zojja. She explained her actions with the egg as a new Wyld Hunt that had driven her too strongly. Although the Commander's party was initially distrustful of her and confiscated her weapons, Caithe was eventually allowed to join the battle against corrupted Faolain who tried to stop their advance. Seeing her former lover's new, abhorrent form and fall to Mordremoth's influence, Caithe came to terms with killing her. She stayed with the Commander's party afterwards, vowing to defeat the Elder Dragon regardless of the cost to the sylvari race.
Caithe followed the Commander to the heart of Mordremoth's domain where Trahearne was kept in. She offered to join in the final battle in the Dream against Mordremoth or to remain behind to safeguard the Commander's body. Mordremoth tried to break her spirit by showing her a vision of a Blighted Pale Tree loyal to the dragon's cause, but Caithe ultimately rejected the vision and resolved to fight on, not wanting such a fate come to pass. After Mordremoth's demise, Caithe expressed relief but also concern as their creator's death now left the future of the Pale Tree and the sylvari race open and uncertain.
Living World Season 3[edit]
Out of the Shadows[edit]
In 1329 AE, Caithe visited the Grove to check in on the recovering Pale Tree. She witnessed the Bloodstone explosion in the horizon and hurried to the Bloodstone Fen to investigate what had caused it. She met with the Commander who was also exploring the site and asked the Commander to restore the trust between the two of them. She further elaborated on her erratic actions being the result of Mordremoth's call leaving her uncertain about who to trust with the egg.
Caithe and the Commander pieced together clues about the explosion, the involvement of the White Mantle, and that someone appeared to have been in the center of it to deliberately absorb the released magic for reasons that remained unclear. Troubled by this development, Caithe decided to let the Commander rejoin the rest of the investigating party while she stayed behind at the site to search for more clues.
Rising Flames[edit]
Some time later, Caithe came to Tarir because she had heard that the egg was about to hatch. She and Marjory Delaqua had to fight off a sudden invasion of Destroyers, however, and only got inside the inner sanctum once the Commander had already defeated the invading dragon minions there with the aid of the Luminate and a new would-be ally, the being calling itself the mursaat Lazarus.
While the Commander and Marjory tried to figure out whether to trust Lazarus who wished to join forces with them in the campaign against the Elder Dragons, Caithe was drawn to Glint's newly hatched scion, the source of her new Wyld Hunt. After the Commander had named the hatchling Aurene, Caithe pledged herself to watch over the young dragon. The Commander agreed to her proposition: Caithe may have been a lot of things, but she had never been an enemy of the hatchling.
A Crack in the Ice[edit]
Being prompted by another vision from Aurene sometime later, the Commander visited Tarir again and conversed with the dragon's defenders, including Caithe. The Firstborn explained that life in Tarir had been calm since the Commander's previous visit, and she let the Commander know how much she appreciated being allowed to watch over the rambunctious scion. She also continued pondering about the future of the sylvari. After listening to the Commander's reassuring words, Caithe suggested the Commander go meet with Aurene to begin the trials the Exalted had set up to strengthen the bond between the pair.
Path of Fire[edit]
While the Pact Commander traveled to the Crystal Desert in 1330 AE to stop the rogue god Balthazar from killing Kralkatorrik and destroying Tyria in the process, Caithe remained in Tarir to watch over Aurene. However, Aurene began acting more and more aggressively over time, and Caithe and the Luminate discussed the issue with Taimi who had been in contact with the Commander via a remote communication device.
They learned that Aurene was reacting to sensing her brother Vlast's death at the hands of Balthazar, and the trio did their best to try to calm the hatchling down. When Aurene sensed that Balthazar was about to kill the Commander, however, she escaped from Tarir and flew to the Crystal Desert while her caretakers could do nothing but watch helplessly as she departed.[8]
After dying in the rogue god Balthazar's ambush, the Commander's soul appeared in the Domain of the Lost where all spirits which experience sudden, violent deaths end up in. While recovering their name and remembering their purpose to be properly judged, the Commander was subjected to fragmented visions of past deeds, including various confrontations with Caithe as the sylvari's memory was briefly visible.
Living World Season 4[edit]
A Star to Guide Us[edit]
After the Commander and Blish had successfully attached a tracker to Kralkatorrik in 1331 AE, Caithe appeared in Sun's Refuge from the shadows with a cryptic statement of needing to talk with the Commander, claiming that she had been watching the Commander for a while. Upon realizing that the Commander's party was mourning Blish's sacrifice in the aftermath of the mission, Caithe decided to bide her time and let them mourn in peace. She eventually contacted the Commander again and let them know that she would be heading north with the intention to discover what the Brotherhood of the Dragon, an old order of dwarves dedicated to Glint, might have known about Glint's Legacy plans.
All or Nothing[edit]
In 1332 AE, the Commander contacted Caithe and learned that the Durmand Priory was not keen on letting a known thief wander their halls. In order to let Caithe continue her search for the Order's last remaining member Ogden Stonehealer, the Commander appeared in the Priory to act as Caithe's chaperone. Caithe used the opportunity to explain why she had not been around since Aurene had left Tarir: she felt like Aurene did not need her anymore now that the scion had the Commander as her champion. However, she believed that Aurene would need both her and the Commander by her side now that the scion was terrified of what was required of her.
The pair entered the Special Collections to meet with Ogden who, much to their surprise, was already expecting them. He revealed that Glint had partnered with the dwarves at Thunderhead Keep to develop the Dragonsblood Forge, where the original Dragonsblood Spear had been created, and where the Commander's allies needed to gather for the final confrontation against Kralkatorrik as per Glint's plan. Before that could happen, however, Aurene and her champion would have to prove their readiness by facing a series of trials Glint had created in an extension of her lair in the Mists.
While Ogden made preparations to gather the allied forces, Caithe and the Commander stepped through the portal created by Glint's hourglass and found Aurene curled up around Glint's crystalline remains. The pair did their best to reassure the scion that she would not be alone on the difficult road ahead, after which Aurene and the Commander entered the trials while Caithe stayed behind to wait for their return. Although the trials had felt short for the scion and the champion, Caithe waited for them for two days until they rejoined her and used Glint's portal to enter Thunderhead Keep.
Upon arriving at the keep, the trio met the Commander's newest ally Zafirah, a priestess of Balthazar, who was surprised to feel Balthazar's presence within Aurene. The Commander left Caithe and the scion to be aquainted with the priestess while preparations were made to create new, inferior Dragonsblood weapons for the battle ahead.
Caithe joined the Commander and a close group of allies in the Auditorium only to learn from the ghost of Gwen Thackeray that Kralkatorrik had entered the Domain of the Lost where he was scattering and devouring the dead to increase his power. Before the party could come up with a plan to deal with the urgent situation, a Mist rift opened and brought in Branded invaders. Aurene came to her allies' assistance and channeled her power through the Forge's resonance crystal to defeat Kralkatorrik's minions, then shocked everyone by Branding over the residual Brandstorm.
As the others argued about this troubling new power and if Aurene would follow in her grandfather's footsteps, Aurene grew frustrated by her inability to speak and defend herself. Caithe finally offered herself to the scion as a vessel to speak through and willingly stepped into Aurene's Brand as the scion rose in front of her. Teal crystalline flowers blossomed over Caithe as a deep mental and emotional bond joined her and Aurene in an experience which was far different from the violent subjugation of Kralkatorrik's Branding. Speaking through Caithe, Aurene uttered her first words: "I am not him."
The scion's gesture reassured the others, and together they came up with an improvised plan to lure Kralkatorrik into the Forge and use the resonance crystals, boosted with dredge technology, to help destroy the Elder Dragon. While the Commander rallied the troops with an inspiring speech, Aurene joined Caithe near the first resonance crystal of the Auditorium. After a few reassuring words from the Commander, the scion entered the Mists only to return shortly after, luring the Elder Dragon to the Pact's trap. While Kralkatorrik was being distracted by the Pact's attacks, Aurene Branded the Elder Dragon's neck to the wall so he could not force himself deeper into the mountain. With the help of the Zephyrite choir and the dredge's sonic amplifying technology, the scion and her champion unleashed the sounds of three resonance crystals on Kralkatorrik to wound him and attacked him on the revealed weak points every time he became disoriented.
In the final stages of the battle, Kralkatorrik mustered all his strength to annihilate his opposition which stood in his way to Aurene. Channeling the powers of Zhaitan, Mordremoth, Balthazar as well as his own power all at once, the Elder Dragon released a major surge of dragon energy only to be blocked by Braham's shield bubble which Aurene boosted with her magic. The resulting blast was enough to knock the allied forces down. Caithe stayed to tend to the injured Braham and left the Commander and Aurene to face the weakened Crystal Dragon in the depths of the keep where the scion and her champion successfully damaged one of Kralkatorrik's eyes and prepared to deliver the killing blow.
However, Kralkatorrik recovered at the last moment and fired another blast of dragon energy to kill the Commander, only to be countered by the scion who darted in front of it and fired a blast of her own. The resulting explosion destroyed one of the Crystal Dragon's eyes but also caused the scion to be impaled on Branded spikes, killing her as her visions had foretold. Wounded but victorious, Kralkatorrik managed to shake himself free from Aurene's Brand and returned to the Mists. Caithe eventually joined the other allies at Aurene's pierced corpse, and she collapsed as her crystal blooms faded away, confirming that Aurene was truly gone. Both Caithe and the Commander wept upon witnessing the passing of the scion whom they had viewed as their daughter.[9]
War Eternal[edit]
Sometime after the battle against Kralkatorrik, Caithe reunited with the Pact Commander along with other members of Dragon’s Watch and allies to pay respects to Aurene’s corpse and discuss what they could do after such terrible defeat. It was when they decided to take the branded crystals out of the dead dragon to give rest to her body when they discover that Aurene survive to the Elder Dragon's attack thanks to the power she absorbed from Joko, making her an immortal being. With this, Caithe regained her bond with Aurene and her crystal flowers bloomed once again. After some planning for one last battle against the Elder Dragon, the Commander achieved to get Kralkatorrik out of the Mists and ambush him with the combined forces of the Pact, Olmakhan and other allies. In Dragonfall, Caithe met with a new organization, created by those who Aurene has saved in the past and people who have heard of the Second Scion and have been encouraged to fight for her, including many Elonians like Sunspears and Awakened. They called themselves the Order of the Crystal Bloom and made Caithe their leader, as she was the first one who receive the dragon’s blessing.
The sylvari joined Zaeim and lead her forces into the remains of the Fissure of Woe that were torn by Kralkatorrik when he fell from the Mists, fighting the branded forces until all the allied forces where ready to attack the Elder Dragon’s body, weakening him and his army. After all this, she joined the Pact Commander, Rytlock, Zafirah and Aurene to give the last strike to Kralkatorrik, walking through the caverns beneath Dragonfall to reach the dragon’s head. When they did, they fought the Branded forces while in the outside the allied forces still fighting the Elder Dragon. It’s here, before entering Kralkatorrik’s insides to finally kill him when Aurene shared some words with Caithe, reaffirming their love as the sylvari was involve in her life since the dragon was just an egg, doing what she thought was the best to protect her.
After the job was done, Caithe witnessed the moment Aurene finally fulfilled her purpose, taking Kralkatorrik’s place as the new Crystal Elder Dragon and she flew away to spread her light upon the world. With the war now finished and the allies returning home, Caithe discuss with the Pact Commander how uncertain could be the future with Aurene being an Elder Dragon and how she felt her suffering at the moment she fought Kralkatorrik, understanding that the now dead dragon was truly suffering with all the situation. Finally she shared her desire to return to her home the Grove, where all her adventures had begun.
End of Dragons[edit]
Act 1[edit]
In 1335 AE, Caithe sends a letter to the Pact Commander, inviting them to visit the Eye of the North. Something appears to bothering Aurene in the aftermath of the death of Primordus and Jormag. When the Pact Commander arrives and speaks with Aurene, Caithe involves herself in the current tribulations of Taimi's and Gorrik's relationship. Afterwards she catches up with the Pact Commander and expresses her gratitude in the continued trust in her, noting that she did not always deserve it and that the Firstborn of the Sylvari are only 30 years old and still rather immature in certain aspects. She acknowledges that Aurene broadened her world and perspective.

Dialogue[edit]
The House of Caithe[edit]
- (If sylvari)
- Hello, Valiant. I hope you don't need me. I'm right in the middle of something. Talk to you later?
- (If not sylvari, before completion of Setting the Stage)
- Hello. Have we met? I don't remember you. I'm distracted at the moment. I'm sure that's why. Perhaps I'll see you some other time.
- (If not sylvari, after completion of Setting the Stage)
- Oh, hello, <Character name>. I'd love to chat, but I'm in the middle of something. Would you come back some other time, please?
- What're you doing?
- Blending poisons for my blades. I'm no hylek alchemist, but I do fine.
- Interesting. Talk to you later.
- (If Feline Dispersing Emitter is enabled in your home instance)
- It...looks like you have some visitors already.
- These cats showed up suddenly, and I don't have the heart to shoo them away. They're easy to take care of, but I do wonder where they came from.
- I definitely have no idea where they could have come from.
- (If sylvari)
- All right. Later.
- (If not sylvari, before completion of Setting the Stage)
- Okay.
- (If not sylvari, after completion of Setting the Stage)
- Understood.
Dragon's Stand (Heart of Thorns)[edit]
- Before completing Hearts and Minds
- Old friend, I hope you see now that we have a common goal. Can we set aside any mistrust that threatened our friendship?
- I have a question for you. Why didn't you confide in me?
- My Wyld Hunt nearly suffocated me with the weight of its importance. I was so afraid I'd fail. I felt I could only trust myself. But in the end, the egg didn't choose me, it chose you.
- I understand. I don't know why it chose me, but I will do my best.
- You're the bravest of us all. The egg chose well. I don't know when I'll recieve my next Wyld Hunt, but...I am glad that we always end up on the same side.
- As am I.
- After completing Hearts and Minds
- It's impossible to describe the relief I feel, but also the absence. It's suddenly so...quiet. Unexpected, to say the least.
- Don't tell me you miss Mordremoth's cacophony in your mind.
- No, I think I just got used to fighting it. It's as if my mind has been cleared of a haze of toxic clouds. The urge is gone.
- You're strong. All who resisted are.
Sun's Refuge[edit]
- After receiving mail from Caithe after entering Jahai Bluffs or Lion's Arch
- Commander—I'm sure you're curious why I'm here. Truth is, I've felt compelled to keep watch over Aurene for some time now. You're her champion, but I still share a deep connection with her.
- Of course—you watched over her for a long time. I'm worried about her.
- When she was younger, she'd sometimes go off alone if she was feeling troubled. She'll be ready when we need her. We should make sure we're also ready for her.
- How do you mean?
- Glint placed so much hope and faith in Aurene. Her legacy is what we're all counting on. But we know so little about Glint's plans. I'd like to help change that.
- The more we know, the better. Where do you plan to start?
- I believe a certain brotherhood knew more about Glint's Legacy than they let on. I intend to find out just how much.
- Sounds like just the place. I'll be in touch.
- Talking to Caithe after the above conversation.
- Forgive me, Commander—I have preparations to make before I head north. We'll speak again soon.
- Good luck.
Dragonfall[edit]
- At the Crystal Bloom Camp
- Welcome to the Burning Forest, Commander. We're doing our best to hold it, but between these shadowy creatures, the Branded, and Kralkatorrik, we've got our hands full.
- What can I do to help?
- (During Collect Eternal Embers)
- We're building up a supply of Eternal Embers—you'll find them around the Burning Forest. Turns out it's fairly easy to weaponize fire that never goes out.
- Sounds promising. I'll look for these Eternal Embers.
- (During Use Eternal Embers to destroy the Crystal Assemblers and Use Eternal Embers to destroy Branded turrets)
- Feel like testing out our Ember Charges? I can think of a few Branded things out there that might benefit from some explosive redecoration.
- Blowing up Branded? Sounds like a good time.
- (After all camp upgrades have been completed)
- You've noticed the massive Brandstorm protecting Kralkatorrik? We need to get rid of it. The Pact is setting up ley reflectors all over the island to supercharge their storm disruptors.
- Got it. I'll make sure those reflectors get set up.
- Tell me about the Order of the Crystal Bloom.
- I'm still trying to wrap my head around it, to be honest. When word began to spread of Aurene's return, everyone started to look to me. The Sunspears, the Awakened, the Zaishen...
- You're a part of her now. They can see that.
- Still, I wonder if I'm worthy of their trust. Everyone's looking to me like a leader. I'm...not used to that.
- Need any help? (Same as "What can I do to help?")
- You're doing great, Caithe. Keep up the good work.
- Don't worry, Caithe. You're doing great work.
- I'll leave you to it.
Dragon's End[edit]
- After the final battle
- We should take time to celebrate this victory, while remaining vigilant, ready for what is to come... And it will come.
- We will be ready.
Quotes[edit]
- Greets
- The world is for exploring.
- May you never dwell in darkness.
- Trust your instincts.
- It's good to speak with you.
- Do you have wisdom to share?
- Don't mind me. (Only during Return to Camp Resolve)
- Aggro
- You've made a poor choice.
- Deaggro
- That's enough violence for now.
- Death
- I'll never get used to defeat.

- Her Nightmare Court disguise consists of Heritage Bandana, Evergreen Shoulderguards, Nightmare Court Guise, Nightshade Gloves, Evergreen Leggings, and Firstborn Boots.
- In the Seeds of Truth flashbacks, she wears Evergreen pants, chest and gloves, and Nightshade shoulders and boots. In addition, she uses a different hairstyle.
- Concept art of Caithe used to be used for the login screen prior to Heart of Thorns release.
- Characters have a chance to play as Caithe during the Living World Season 2 missions The Newly Awakened, Meeting the Asura, No Refuge, and The Mystery Cave. The skills accessible to the player when transformed as Caithe (available only during Meeting the Asura and No Refuge) are different from the skills that Caithe can be observed as using elsewhere in the game.
Trivia[edit]
- Caithe is voiced by Kari Wahlgren.
- Her name may be an alternate spelling of the Irish boy's name "Caith" meaning "of the battlefield". Alternately, her name may be inspired by caithne which means 'arbutus unedo (strawberry tree)' in Irish.

- "That was Divinity's Reach!" Logan said, stepping toward the gate. Already, though, the scene had changed to a city-size white tree within a steaming jungle...
- "And that was the Grove!" Caithe said.
- Logan hissed, releasing the crystal and shaking his hand. "That thing's overloading. We'll have just one last chance at this before it blows completely. And if we jump through at the wrong time, who knows where we'll end up."
- "Maybe I can call to the Grove. Maybe the tree can prolong the contact."
- She began to sing:
- Oh, come to me, heart of the wyld.
- Oh, hear this lost sylvari child,
- Away from wood and glade and briar,
- Entombed within a world of fire.
- Rytlock was still hearing Caithe's vibrant voice echoing through his head. It was almost as if she were just around the corner.

- Snaff winced as a chirurgeon set a hot towel on his shoulder. "The fact is, you three aren't gladiators."
- "Aren't we?" barked Rytlock.
- Snaff shook his head. "Of course not. You're heroes. You don't need to fight trumped-up battles against prearranged foes." He looked around at the stone ceiling. "You should be out beneath the sky, fighting real monsters."
- Rytlock, Logan, and Caithe looked at each other, unsure what to say.
- Snaff sighed. "We went after you because you were the heroes we needed. We set this whole thing up, crossed continents, designed golems, bet with our own lives to win your billet and to win you to our side. Yes, we can force you to join us, but we don't want henchmen. We want heroes."

- "The dragons. No one is fighting the dragons, but we must. We stopped a dragon champion, but what about the power behind him?"
- "You're right," Snaff said gently, "but that's not why you're crying."
- Caithe stared at him, her eyes wide but searching, trying to decide if she could trust him. "It's that someone I care about has chosen the wrong path."
- Snaff bowed his head and pursed his lips. "Anyone I know?"
- "No." Caithe shook her head. "Another sylvari. She has gone to Nightmare."
- Snaff nodded. "I'm sorry. Every creature must choose her own path."
- "But what can I do? I have to save her."
- Snaff smiled sadly. "You can't save anyone but yourself. I can't save my own apprentice, though she means more to me than the world. I can only be good to her and hope she notices, hope she learns from me." His expression clouded. "She will outlive me, as she should. She will face horrors that I will not. And in those moments, I hope she remembers my strength, not my weakness."
- Caithe stared at him for a searching moment. "She will. She will remember."
- "And this one that you care about—she will remember, too."
- ^ "Chapter 25: Drawing the Poison", Edge of Destiny by J. Robert King:
- Faolain was there to spread the blackness through Caithe. It is a fool's errand you are on. You have killed dragon champions but have not faced a true dragon. And, even now, another is coming into the world. It will destroy you unless you join me!
- Caithe lurched, hurling Faolain's hands back from her heart. She looked wildly around, then locked eyes with Faolain. How can you know this? How can any mortal?
- Faolain blinked. The same way you know. We watch. We see the new dragon's champion preparing for it. A champion by the name of Glint.
- A new champion?
- An old one, her loyalties long concealed. [...]
- "What is this champion called?" asked Eir.
- "She's another dragon—a lesser dragon," Caithe said, "though ancient in her own right. Humans call her Glint."
- "Glint!" Logan said. "The Glint? Keeper of the Flame-seeker Prophecies?"
- "The same," Caithe said.
- "Are you kidding me? She helped stop the Lich Lord. She helped stop the titans," Logan went on. "Why would she turn against us?"
- Caithe looked levelly at him. "Glint is the champion of the one who rises."
- "Glint is a friend of humanity," Logan argued.
- "Very few of us are human," said Zojja.
- ^ "Chapter 33: Sundering", Edge of Destiny by J. Robert King:
- Caithe walked along the Dragonbrand—the wide swath of destruction laid down by Kralkatorrik. Every once in a while, she would bend down and pull a large green crystal from the sands.
- "Dragon blood," she said, staring gladly at one such stone before sliding it into her pack.
- It was lonely work, wandering these desolate places, searching for the secrets of Kralkatorrik and the Elder Dragons. But it was even lonelier when she traveled to Hoelbrak or Rata Sum or Divinity's Reach or the Black Citadel only to find that her onetime friends had become strangers.
- But they would be friends again. Someday, they would join her. Someday, they would fight the dragons again.
