Walkthrough[edit]
The missions objectives are fairly straightforward at the beginning pre-event. Use water buckets to extinguish fires, activate mortar seed turrets (interact with them) , and kill destroyers attacking. Completing the goals will grant one stack of Morale Boost for each goal, increasing all attributes.
Once the mission locks , any challenges start including the timer and you need to follow the NPCs to seek out the Destroyer boss. About half way into the mission after the expedition event ends, the Destroyer of the Crystal Fields appears. Break the defiance bar to increase damage (via Exposed) and also to stop its attacks. It will occasionally create a wave that knocks players back but that can be either ignored with stability or jumped over. At around 80% health it disappears and players must destroy fissures. Destroyer bursters around each fissure do heavy damage on death so it is advised to focus the fissure only. After all three fissures are destroyed the boss will return and at 40% it will disappear again and form the 3 fissures. Destroy the three fissures and continue on to the final phase of the fight (which is just the occasional wave that knocks players back).
Using a Portable United Legions Waystation greatly improves the ability to break the defiance bar. "CC consumables" usable in openworld such as Termite Shovels and Rocks also help.
Allied Factions[edit]
After the initial event, you will be accompanied by one of the Allied factions. They can be either selected by talking to Meradh near the entrance and paying the fee, or they will be randomly assigned. Many of the NPCs are very weak and die easily, however, some of them have useful utilities.
- Ally Support: Asura: Provides access to a fighting golem that you can control.
- Ally Support: Seraph: The Watchknighs accompanying the Seraph provide great Crowd Control.
- Ally Support: Sylvari: Speaking to the Kennelmaster grants a special skill summoning a Sylvan Hound.
- Ally Support: Crystal Bloom: Aurene and the Crystal Bloom send a gift, a Prismatic Crystal granting protection and healing.
- Ally Support: Exalted: Provides access to an Enchanted Armor that you can control.
- Ally Support: Tengu: Speaking to Master Marksman will give you Tengu Bow to use.
- Ally Support: Skritt: Herd Skritt to get their help. Getting access to their mines.
Challenges[edit]
Various challenges can be activated by talking to Veadh near the entrance. Once the first event finishes, they cannot be further changed.
- Recall the Vigil strike teams. (Adds a timer to mission failure.)
- Recall the Order of Whispers infiltrators. (Strengthens enemies.)
- Recall the Priory enchanters. (Enemy champions gain strength.)
- Pull all forces back. I'll handle it. [All challenges on.]
- We need all forces on the field. [All challenges off.]
- The challenge timer is 20 minutes.

Dialogue[edit]
- Upon entering the instance
- Caithe: The village is overrun. Unless Taimi sends more, it's only us here now.
- <Character name>: This place is going up like kindling. Any defenses?
- Caithe: A few, but they weren't meant for this. It's all in disarray.
- <Character name>: Let's do what we can do.
- After saving the village
- Caithe: The area is cleared—for now.
- <Character name>: This village won't withstand another attack.
- Caithe: If we can trace these destroyers back to their source, perhaps we can cut them off for good.
- <Character name>: Steelcatcher?
- Ryland Steelcatcher: Asura said some sylvari were under attack. You Aurene's Caithe?
- Caithe: Something like that.
- <Character name>: Where's your Frost Legion?
- Ryland Steelcatcher: Overkill. Think you'll find me more than sufficient.
- Ryland Steelcatcher: Unless you don't want my help saving these people? That doesn't sound like you, Commander.
- Caithe: Appreciate the extra hand. Time is of the essence. This way!
- Talking to Caithe
- Help me find the source of the rampaging destroyers.
- I'll help.
- I can't right now.
- First conversation while traveling
- Caithe: So you're Rytlock's son.
- Ryland Steelcatcher: Technically. The least important thing about me. You should care more about the salient parts.
- Caithe: Such as.
- Ryland Steelcatcher: Such as: we are the only three people in the world who know what it's like to be close to an Elder Dragon.
- Caithe: Changes you. It's like finding your purpose, and fulfilling it.
- Ryland Steelcatcher: I didn't find my purpose—I made it. No more climbing the ranks of other people's armies. Jormag sees me—sees my worth.
- <Character name>: Jormag implied you two have some sort of mind-meld. A dragon's voice can be...seductive.
- Ryland Steelcatcher: Were you coerced? Was Caithe? I have agency, thank you; I can make my own choices. No persuasion needed.
- Caithe: The commander's right to be wary. When it comes to Elder Dragons, Aurene is often the exception, not the rule.
- Ryland Steelcatcher: You've been "the" dragon champion for a while, Commander. Sharing the spotlight...that's gotta chafe.
- Second conversation while traveling
- Ryland Steelcatcher: Those crystals make you a real asset.
- Caithe: You sound surprised.
- Ryland Steelcatcher: I'd heard the Crystal Bloom aren't big on frontline fighting.
- Caithe: Support can take many forms. Like Aurene, we focus on healing and restoration. The world needs stability. Order.
- Ryland Steelcatcher: Who defines "order"? Who controls it?
- Caithe: It's not about control. It's about the responsibility we all have to one another.
- Ryland Steelcatcher: You're telling me Aurene's got all that power and she won't even use it.
- Caithe: She supports us in ways she deems appropriate.
- Ryland Steelcatcher: Playing defense just preserves the status quo. You don't lose anything; you also don't gain anything.
- <Character name>: I don't see Jormag playing offense against Primordus. Seems to me your Elder Dragon's more about hiding. Whispering.
- Ryland Steelcatcher: Waiting for the right moment to strike isn't "hiding." Every attack needs a strategy.
- <Character name>: How does this fit into your strategy? You've already betrayed one ally—
- Ryland Steelcatcher: Bangar's a relic; he thinks the world is a much smaller place than it is. We know different.
- While in the tunnels
- Ryland Steelcatcher: Which way?
- Caithe: Forward. This second path leads back to the village.
- While fighting the destroyer champion
- Ryland Steelcatcher: Just the one. You can handle that—right, Commander?
- Ryland Steelcatcher: Guess you do need me. Take out those fissures.
- Ryland Steelcatcher: The big one's back!
- Caithe: I think that one's calling the others!
- Caithe: How many of these can the ground spit out?
- Ryland Steelcatcher: Kill it! That'll cut off its retreat.
- Caithe: And stop any more from showing up!
- After defeating the champion
- Caithe: Thank you all for your help.
- Ryland Steelcatcher: The powers Aurene gave you worked today. But you'll face worse before it's over.
- Ryland Steelcatcher: Tyria's gonna need more than healing when Primordus comes.
- <Character name>: I wish Aurene were taking a more active role. She's hesitating—and I'm not sure why.
- Caithe: She's experienced a lot in her short life. Perhaps more than you or I ever will. Certainly in ways we never will.
- Caithe: But I trust she has reasons for the choices she makes. More than that, I have faith in her. Have faith, Commander.
