Walkthrough[edit]
Getting there[edit]
The road to The Narthex can be challenging. It is recommended to use boons like Swiftness and Stability. It is easier to get there when the pact hold control over the Gates of Arah as there will be fewer Risen on the path to the marker.
Arah[edit]
Similar to dungeons, at every point during the Arah instance you are able to use waypoints and return to checkpoints if wiped. Anvils are available to reinforce armor when needed.
Brief summary of objectives:
- Collect three power cores by defeating a Champion Risen Lich, Champion Bloated Creeper, and a Champion Risen Knight (with the aid of Destiny's Edge) along with minor Risen foes on the way.
- Use reflect skills (the turrets on the ship will have one) to fight off the Giants throwing projectiles at the ship. If any projectiles hit the deck, some Risen will spawn on the ship. If having difficulties with the Risen, running back to Destiny's Edge so the Risen get closer to the ship's cabin will attract them to the fight. They will not do much damage, but will take the Risen off your back. They will run back to their previous positions whenever there are no more enemies, but this can be done repeatedly.
- Get in the helicopter. Destroy the three anti-aircraft towers guarded by certain enemies. These enemies respawn after a while when killed, and they are not required for the event, so it may be faster just to avoid them while destroying the tower.
- Risen Eyes and Risen Gorillas. The eyes deal lots of damage but have a short range. Reflects and ranged weapons help against them but they can be simply ignored by walking through the back of the tower far from them. The gorillas can be troublesome for those who stand still when attacking as they charge and knock down, but they are not too fast, so running around while hitting the tower is usually enough to avoid them without wasting time killing them.
- Orrian Spectral Weapons. They are mostly ranged, and the tower does block projectiles, so running while keeping parts of the tower in between will keep them wasting time moving around to unobstructed positions.
- Ooze. Like spectral weapons, their attacks are mostly ranged, so running around the tower while hitting it enough to avoid them.
- Once the towers are destroyed any remaining enemies will die.
- To kill the Mouth of Zhaitan use the Fire Orbs. A few Fire Orbs will appear after the Mouth destroys the charr copter, and new ones will be created by one of its attacks. The mouth will perform a series of attacks while Invulnerable, and the one that creates Fire Orbs is an area attack that deals large amounts of damage. After avoiding that attack, grab the fire orb and keep avoiding attacks until the Mouth uses its Vortex skill, at which time it stands still while a whirl forms at its belly-mouth. Throwing the Fire Orb at it during the Vortex will drop its Invulnerability for a brief time and stun it, allowing the party to do damage. Repeat this process until it's dead.
- Back on the airship, kill the minor undead that spawn while switching to the cannons (spam both skills when the dragon targeting circles are visible) to kill the dragons that are flying about outside the ship. The cannons near the front of the ship, particularly the one facing to the right (with your back to the cabin) is where the dragons like to pop up the most. As in the previous ship encounters, Destiny's Edge can be lured into the battle to take some Risen attention of the player characters. If you stand in fires, you will receive (unnamed effect).
- Logan rescues your party from your burning ship on The Glory of Tyria. Fight off the undead as they approach Zojja building her enormous cannon. Yet more undead appear on deck after the cutscene, culminating in a battle with two Eye of Zhaitan. Afterwards, you can finally get on the cannons and slowly zap Zhaitan from the sky. (aided by Destiny's Edge when fighting Risen spawns, solo for cannon usage)

Dialogue[edit]
Arah[edit]
Talking to the Destiny's Edge members before the first cinematic:
- Caithe: Although we did reunite most of Destiny's Edge, I had hoped our entire group would be here for this.
- There's no time to waste. Let's go.
- Who's missing?
- Zojja. I had hoped she would overcome her anger at Eir and come along.
- There's no time to waste. Let's go.
- Sorry to hear that.
- We need to gather the rest of our group.
- Eir Stegalkin: Most of Destiny's Edge has returned. Even Rytlock and Logan are talking to one another. Only one of us is missing.
- Who's still missing?
- Zojja. I fear she'll never forgive me for Snaff's death.
- Here's hoping she comes around in time.
- The rest of us are still a match for anything Zhaitan can throw at us.
- Garm: Garm looks excited to have everyone gathered together again.
- Ready to bite some dragon minions?
- Rytlock Brimstone: Looks like everyone's here who's going to show. Let's get this ship in the air.
- What do you mean? Who's not going to show?
- It looks like Snaff's apprentice Zojja isn't coming. A pity.
- That's too bad. What can I help with now?
- This airship was disabled. We need to find working power cores to get her aloft and back into the fight.
- Understood. I'm on it.
- Maybe we should wait a bit longer.
- What needs to be done? (Same as "That's too bad. What can I help with now?")
- I'm with you. Let's move out.
First cinematic:
- Logan Thackeray: We've done some scouting, and it is no walk in the park.
- Caithe: Even with the four of us to help, it will be a difficult battle.
- Zojja: As always, sylvari, your intent is good, but your math skills are subpar.
- Eir Stegalkin: Zojja? You've come to help?
- Zojja: You think I'd let you go fight an Elder Dragon without a proper genius?
- Eir Stegalkin: Zojja, I need you to know something.
- Zojja: I know. You blame yourself for Snaff's death. I blamed you for many years, myself.
- Zojja: But I'd blame myself if you went in and failed, and I could have helped. Snaff would have wanted me here.
- Eir Stegalkin: I...Thank you.
- <Character name>: You were saying, Caithe?
Concept art cinematic:
- Caithe: Arah was once the city of the human gods. Even after the deities quit this sphere, it remained a golden, shining place...
- Caithe: ...until the folly of man sank it beneath the waves.
- Caithe: Yet worse was still to come.
- Caithe: The Elder Dragon awoke, and pulled Orr from its watery grave, and raised hordes of undead minions from the twisted wreckage.
- Caithe: Now Zhaitan's minions infest this place. We must rise above them if we hope to confront the Elder Dragon.
Second cinematic:
- Eir Stegalkin: We'll need every airship if we are going to succeed in this mission.
- Eir Stegalkin: We must salvage enough power cores to get this one up and into combat.
- Eir Stegalkin: If Tyria is to have any hope, we must finish what we started. We must destroy Zhaitan.
- <Character name>: And with your help, we will.
- Caithe: One more thing. We have to thank you for bringing us back together.
- <Character name>: I don't know what I've done.
- Caithe: You have led—by word and by deed.
- Caithe: Without your example, they...we...would never have reunited.
- Caithe: I tried to force them. I was wrong. You have restored us.
- Zojja: Are we going to get started, or just chat Zhaitan to death?
After the cinematics:
- Rytlock Brimstone: We should stay together. The Pact can guard the airship.
Talking to the Destiny's Edge members:
- Caithe: What is it? We really need to recover those power cores and get the airship up and running again.
- Why is this one airship so important?
- Pact forces are starting the assault on Zhaitan. We need every ship in the air for that.
- What do you think of the assault's chance of success?
- The Pact has been readying some sort of superweapon. I sincerely hope they have it ready in time.
- Agreed. Can I ask you something else?
- I hope so, too.
- Understood.
- Aren't you happy to see everyone from Destiny's Edge back together?
- That is beside the point, is it not? We are most effective when we combine our strengths.
- Still, you have to be pleased by this reunion.
- Yes. Yes, I think I am happy.
- Good to hear. Can I ask something else while I have your attention?
- I knew it. Okay, let's keep searching.
- Let's see how effective we are.
- What do you know about this place?
- I am told the human gods once lived here. I wonder if that is what drew Zhaitan to corrupt this place.
- I'm wondering something else, myself.
- There may be a connection, at that.
- Never mind. Back to searching.
- Eir Stegalkin: Whatever it is, ask quickly. We need to find the power cores in this haunted city and restore that airship.
- Why is it so urgent to get this ship back into the air?
- Pact forces are attacking Arah, and every ship counts.
- Do you think the Pact can succeed?
- As long as we join the fight, I think the Pact can win.
- I'm with you. Can I ask one more thing?
- Let's prove you right.
- Makes sense. Can I ask you something else?
- Let's make sure to get it airborne again, then.
- Does Zojja's return mean that you two have reconciled?
- It's a start. Zojja actually seems...happier, which is unexpected.
- But how do you feel about it?
- Like I've survived a long night of self-doubt and recrimination.
- I understand. Can I ask you something else?
- Glad to hear it.
- I guess that's a good thing. Can I ask something else?
- I think so, too. Let's get back to the search.
- It can wait. Let's just keep searching.
- Garm: Garm looks excited to have everyone gathered together again.
- Ready to bite some dragon minions?
- Logan Thackeray: We've wasted so many years, so many opportunities, by going our separate ways.
- What kept you from reaching out to the others?
- I'm part responsible for our group's break-up, and I owe the others a debt that I can never repay.
- The others seem to have welcomed you back.
- It's true that Rytlock and the others seem to have forgiven me. I'm just not sure I forgive myself.
- I think you should. Logan, what do you make of this place? (same as "What do you know about this place?")
- Its past time that you do.
- You pay everyone back by helping them get through this alive.
- What do you know about this place?
- This is holy ground. Our gods lived here once, but Zhaitan corrupted Arah into a pit of desolation and despair.
- Speaking of despair, why are you still so uncomfortable around Destiny's Edge? (same as "What kept you from reaching out to the others?")
- Let's make the dragon pay.
- More reason to keep moving forward.
- Rytlock Brimstone: Can we hurry up? I'm itching to get back into fight.
- Why the rush?
- Pact forces are making a major push on Zhaitan and we need every ship in the air.
- Do you think the Pact can pull this off?
- Definitely. They've got air support, they've ground troops, and they've got us.
- I have another question for you.
- Hardly seems fair for Zhaitan, does it?
- Understood.
- Looks like you and Logan are getting along.
- It's good to have the entire team back together. We need to shake off the rust, but we're more than up to this challenge.
- Can I ask something else?
- Let's get shaking, then.
- What do you know about this place?
- It's a testament to the folly of the humans and their gods. They say Arah was sacred, but all I see is one big dragon nest.
- Can I ask one more thing?
- Let's press on.
- Right there with you.
- Zojja: We don't have much time. We need to locate those power cores and get the airship operational.
- What's the hurry to fix this airship?
- The Pact is launching an air assault, imminently. That's why I was late joining you here.
- Do you really think we can take Zhaitan by air?
- You'd better believe it. Our huge airship, the "Glory of Tyria", was mounted with a superior weapon. Asura design, of course.
- Can I ask something else?
- Okay, I'm convinced.
- Got it. Back to searching.
- How are we going to find the power cores?
- I've brought along a VOED to detect them. Given the airship losses here, it shouldn't be too difficult.
- Nice invention. Can I ask one more thing?
- Got it. Let's find those cores.
- What do you know about this place?
- The human gods were apparently as foolish as their worshippers, since they made their home on the resting place of an Elder Dragon.
- Can I ask you something else?
- That's an interesting perspective on the situation.
- I'm on it.
At the location of the first power core:
- Champion Risen Lich: Foolish fleshlings! You will wither before the might of Zhaitan!
- Logan Thackeray: One down! Let's get that power core.
At the location of the second power core:
- Champion Bloated Creeper: Perish and rot before Zhaitan!
- Rytlock Brimstone: It's so...rotten!
At the location of the third power core:
- Champion Risen Knight: Zhaitan will consume your world!
- Eir Stegalkin: Fetch that last core — that should be enough to get the airship aloft.
When returning to the Pact camp:
- Zojja: Get these installed and we can get aloft!
- Crew: Captain! Orrian undead sighted. They're coming in fast!
- Captain Vandem: Blast! Hold them off while we finish installing those cores!
- Captain Vandem: Cast off! We're lifting off!
- Crew: Line one cast off!
- Crew: Line two cast off!
- Crew: Line three, stand by!
- Crew: The winch is broken! We can't cast off!
- Captain Vandem: Blast!
Cinematic:
- Zojja: We're stuck! Someone has to stay behind to release the airship!
- Logan Thackeray I'll do it.
- Eir Stegalkin: No, Logan. We can't split up. Not this time.
- Logan Thackeray: Long ago I failed all of you. I left you behind to fight. Now you need to leave me behind so you can carry the fight foreward.
- Eir Stegalkin: You don't have to do this.
- Logan Thackeray: Yes, I do. For all of you. And for myself.
- Rytlock Brimstone: Fine. But if you get yourself killed, I'll hound you into the Mists!
After the cinematic:
- Logan Thackeray: Form up on me!
On the airship:
- Eir Stegalkin: He had to stay behind, for all our sakes.
- Zojja: We can't lose him—not after coming back together.
- Caithe: We have lost him again. Can we survive this?
- Rytlock Brimstone: A good death...but too soon.
- Captain Vandem: Sorry to interrupt, but we've sighted gigantic minions of Zhaitan up ahead!
- Captain Vandem: Battle stations! Prepare for combat!
- Captain Vandem: I'm taking the ship in! Get ready!
Talking to the Destiny's Edge members:
- Caithe: Oh, <Character name>. Our group is shattered again, after so short a reunion.
- I can't believe he's really gone, Caithe.
- His sacrifice bought us a fighting chance. He has paid in full for his earlier abandonment.
- True, and we should take this chance and beat Zhaitan together.
- Still, our loss bodes ill. History may not repeat itself, but it often echoes.
- It was a shock to lose him like that. (Same as "I can't believe he's really gone, Caithe.")
- We're masters of our own destiny. We'll succeed.
- Agreed. Let's finish this.
- You have other allies in this fight. We can still beat Zhaitan together. (Same as "True, and we should take this chance and beat Zhaitan together.")
- Let's honor Logan and fight on together.
- Eir Stegalkin: I thought that this time, together, we would be unbeatable. Could I have been wrong?
- It happened so fast. He's really gone, isn't he?
- He gave his life so we could escape, and atoned for abandoning us when we needed him.
- Don't we owe it to Logan to make the most of his sacrifice?
- We've been here before. Last time, we fell apart without Logan.
- Don't you see that he would want us to fight on? (Same as "It happened so fast. He's really gone, isn't he?")
- That was long ago. This is a chance to succeed where you once failed.
- You're right. Let's see this through.
- You don't believe we can win without Logan? (Same as "Don't we owe it to Logan to make the most of his sacrifice?")
- Logan's spirit is still here with us. We'll see this through.
- Garm: Garm seems unhappy.
- It's okay, Garm.
- Rytlock Brimstone: Logan's not dead. I can feel it in my bones.
- I don't know, Rytlock. He was overwhelmed by the Risen back there.
- Listen, Logan's the most foolish, but also the bravest and most combat-savvy, human I've ever known. He'll find a way out.
- I believe you, but we need to fight on.
- We need to fight on, even without him.
- Yes, but mark my words, he'll pick the worst possible moment to show up. He's a master of timing, that way.
- I'll look forward to that, then.
- I hope you're right.
- Zojja: Blast it! We worked so hard, and then Logan had to go and throw his life away.
- You seem sure he didn't make it.
- The odds aren't good. Poor bookah.
- Our group won't fight on alone. The Pact is here with us.
- It's not the same. We lost Snaff and that...that almost destroyed us. If we've really lost Logan...
- Together, we can overcome any loss. We're going to succeed here.
- Is that the sort of speech that inspires Pact troops to march into a dragon's maw behind you?
- Heh. Maybe it is. I just hope I'm right.
- Let's make the most of this chance he bought us.
- Destiny's Edge isn't alone. The entire Pact is here with us. (Same as "Our group won't fight on alone. The Pact is here with us.")
- Let's honor his sacrifice with victory.
After defending against some waves of dragon minions (cinematic):
- Hassa Airthunder: Commander! You've made it! We need your help!
- Hassa Airthunder: We're landing troops in Arah and engaging Zhaitan's minions.
- Hassa Airthunder: Our transports and troops are getting shelled by enemy emplacements.
- Hassa Airthunder: We need someone to help clear a safe landing zone!
After all three Orrian Towers are destroyed:
- Mouth of Zhaitan: Insects. You've chosen a terrible time to be heroes.
- Mouth of Zhaitan: Stagger before the power of the dragon.
During the fight with the Mouth of Zhaitan:
- Mouth of Zhaitan: Zhaitan will triumph. You will all serve the dragon!
- Mouth of Zhaitan: Everything is prey for the dragon. Surrender. Accept your fate.
Whenever a player dies during fight with Mouth of Zhaitan:
- Mouth of Zhaitan: Another meal for my master.
When Mouth of Zhaitan is killed:
- Eir Stegalkin: Come on! Let's give the skaalds something to sing about!
Back on the ariship, when entering next battlezone:
- Captain Vandem: Dragon champions! Everywhere!
- Zojja: Let's just call it a target-rich environment!
At Ogravros the Moondeath's death:
- Rytlock Brimstone: Ha! One down!
- Caithe: And more to go, I'm afraid.
Engaging second and third dragon champions:
- Captain Vandem: All hands to your stations!
- Captain Vandem: Prepare for another attack.
When second and third dragon champions are killed:
- Crew: We've been hit!
- Crew: She's coming apart!
- Captain Vandem: Prepare to abandon ship!
- Zojja: Another ship coming in! And it's a huge one!
- Eir Stegalkin: When it gets alongside, get aboard!
- Captain Vandem: Abandon ship! Get to the larger vessel!
Abandon the ship (cinematic):
- Rytlock Brimstone: Everyone! Onto the other ship!
- Logan Thackeray: Come on, you laggards! We don't have all day!
- Rytlock Brimstone: Logan! You're alive!
- Logan Thackeray: You think I was going to let you go up against Zhaitan alone?
- Caithe: Logan, I am delighted to see you are well. I thought...
- Logan Thackeray: I know. I got out by the skin of my teeth and hopped a lift with this ship. It's a new design.
- Zojja: Impressive. I think this is just what we need to take down a dragon.
- Eir Stegalkin: Everyone, to your battle stations. We're going in!
When on the new ship:
- Logan Thackeray: Did you miss me?
Talking to the Destiny's Edge members:
- Caithe: I am delighted to have Logan back, but our greatest battle lies ahead.
- Still, this has to be a good sign, right?
- Nothing can stop Destiny's Edge now.
- It's great to be proven wrong, isn't it?
- Logan has always managed to surprise me, but never so pleasantly.
- This really was a pleasant surprise, wasn't it? (Same as "Still, this has to be a good sign, right?")
- I was glad to be surprised, too.
- I believe you're right.
- You really thought we'd lost him, didn't you? (Same as "It's great to be proven wrong, isn't it?")
- Agreed. We can't turn back now.
- Eir Stegalkin: Logan's return is a sign that we will succeed this time. Today an Elder Dragon dies!
- You really believe Destiny's Edge is a match for an Elder Dragon?
- Together my friends are merely capable. With your help, we are invincible.
- It's good to have Logan back among the living for the fight.
- I'm happy that we mourned him prematurely.
- With Logan back, we're really going to win, aren't we? (Same as "You really believe Destiny's Edge is a match for an Elder Dragon?")
- I think we all are.
- I look forward to rewarding your faith in me.
- I was as sure as you were that we'd lost him. (Same as "It's good to have Logan back among the living for the fight.")
- Bring on the dragon's champions!
- Rytlock Brimstone: Didn't I tell you that human was like unlucky copper? There's no shaking him. Even the Elder Dragons can't stop us now!
- Even with a new ship, we're still in for one major flight.
- A powerful ship, a crew of heroes, and foe worth fighting. It's a good day.
- You never doubted Logan was alive?
- Truth be told, I feared we'd lost him that time. I'm glad to be wrong.
- We still have a major flight ahead of us. (Same as "Even with a new ship, we're still in for one major flight.")
- We're all good. Now, let's finish this.
- It is, at that. Let's do this!
- You never doubted he'd come back? (Same as "You never doubted Logan was alive?")
- Nothing can stop Destiny's Edge!
- Zojja: Logan has more luck than a probability-manipulating golem! Still, it's good to have him back among the living.
- So you admit you're glad to see him?
- Hey, I'm glad to see anyone who will stand between me and Zhaitan's hordes.
- What do you know about the ship that returned him to us, the "Glory of Tyria"?
- It's a marvel. Charr design, human ingenuity, norn labor, sylvari spirit, and asura intelligence—all united in one vehicle!
- I'm just glad Logan came back on it. (Same as "So you admit you're glad to see him?")
- How do you think he survived long enough for the "Tyria" to find him? (Same as "How do you figure he survived, though?")
- Together we can take down a dragon.
- How do you figure he survived, though?
- Don't know, and really don't care. Just happy to have his impulsive, argumentative, human nature back where it belongs.
- You do seem glad to see him. (Same as "So you admit you're glad to see him?")
- What do you know about the "Tyria", the ship that brought him back? (Same as "What do you know about the ship that returned him to us, the "Glory of Tyria"?")
- Agreed.
- I'm sure he appreciates your sympathy.
- What do you know about this ship he arrived on, the "Glory of Tyria"? (Same as "What do you know about the ship that returned him to us, the "Glory of Tyria"?")
- It is good to have him back.
- Garm: Garm looks excited to have everyone gathered together again.
- Ready to bite some dragon minions?
Zhaitan appears (in-game cut scene):
- Captain Vandem: Something big is coming.
- Crew: What is that?
- Crew: That's Zhaitan!
- Crew: Look at the size of that thing!
After the cinematic:
- Zojja: Stand aside. I have this.
- Second Mate Kajunk: Excuse me? This is a mist-cooled tripartate thautmatium energy weapon.
- Zojja: Uh-huh. With a lead tracer array set for draconic energy. Who do you think designed it?
- Zojja: I know how to handle this. I won't break it. Much.
During the airfight against Zhaitan::
- Zojja: Yes! We've carved its tail off!
- Crew: It can't stay in the air!
- Rytlock Brimstone: We've driven him out of the sky!
- Caithe: He's still dangerous! Watch yourselves!
- Eir Stegalkin: We almost have him! Pour it on!
After defeating Zhaitan (cinematic):
- <Character name>: The elder dragon is no more.
- Caithe: We have succeeded, but only by coming together to fight a greater foe. You have shown the way.
- Caithe: We, and all of Tyria, are in your debt.
Fort Trinity[edit]
Talking with the Destiny's Edge members:
- Caithe: Congratulations, Commander. Trahearne and I both owe you special thanks for helping us with our Wyld Hunts. If you keep helping Firstborn this way, we may have to make you an honorary sylvari.
- That's quite an honor, Caithe. Thank you.
- (As sylvari)
- Congratulations, Commander. Our shared Wyld Hunt started together, so it's fitting that we end it together. We've more to do, but for now, rejoice: this victory will become part of the Dream.
- Let's hope it inspires the next generation of sylvari.
- Eir Stegalkin: You've done amazing things for the Pact, Commander. All Tyria owes you an immeasurable debt. On behalf of Garm and Destiny's Edge, thank you.
- On behalf of everyone who fought for the Pact, you're welcome.
- (As norn)
- Thank the Spirits we found each other. Tyria needed a hero, and I... I needed a purpose. You've given us all that, and more. Well done. The skaalds will be singing your songs for generations.
- And when they also sing of you and Garm, I'll sing along.
- Logan Thackeray: I salute you, Commander, and not just because you outrank me. None of this would have been possible without you. You've made Tyria safer, stronger, and more secure.
- We made it that way, Captain. So we deserve to celebrate. Let's![sic]
- (As human)
- I know your current rank is commander, but you'll always be the Hero of Shaemoor to me. Congratulations, Hero.
- Same to you, Captain. Now let's celebrate. We've earned it.
- Rytlock Brimstone: I'm impressed, Commander. I may bring you in to the Black Citadel to give the brass some lessons on how to conduct a campaign from the field. When you got a moment, I'd like to toast to your victory.
- I like both of those ideas, Tribune. Let's get started.
- (As charr)
- I turn my back on you for a moment, and suddenly you're saving the world. Nice work, soldier. Let's show these civilians how to celebrate, and then... bring on the next Elder Dragon!
- I hope that's an order, Tribune. Because I intend to comply.
- Zojja: Hmm. I didn't expect you succeed so spectacularly. Now I have to recalculate my Heroic Potential Matrix. Thanks a lot for the extra work. Oh, and for cleansing Orr, killing Zhaitan, and so on...
- You're too kind. Come on, let's do some celebrating!'
- (As asura)
- You must be feeling awfully proud of yourself ...cleansing Orr, killing an Elder Dragon. Go on, brag a bit: you deserve it. I hereby declare you the best Snaff Prize Savant ever.
- Couldn't have done it without you, Zojja. Now, let's have some fun!
Initial cinematic:
- Trahearne: Victory at last.
- Trahearne: With Zhaitan defeated, the corruption it wrought can be undone.
- Trahearne: The dragon's undead minions that still infest Tyria will now gradually be exterminated.
- Trahearne: One day soon, that plague will be but a memory.
Follow-up cinematic:
- Eir Stegalkin: Courage, skill, and friendship brought the dragon low. Let this day never be forgotten!
- Logan Thackeray: A victory that all Tyria can share!
- Rytlock Brimstone: This is not an ending. There are other dragons out there. Other battles.
- Zojja: You shambling fuzz-ball. Can't you just be happy?
- Rytlock Brimstone: I was being happy.
- Caithe: Will you return to your queen now, Logan?
- Logan Thackeray: No. Not until I know that Kryta's safe.
- Rytlock Brimstone: Meaning he's up for more fighting. See? Logan's happy, too.
- Eir Stegalkin: Snaff would be proud of us. Especially of you, Zojja.
- Zojja: Proud that we didn't screw up and plant our faces in the mud again, you mean? I guess he would, at that.
- Eir Stegalkin: So who's next? Jormag...Primordus...Kralkatorrik?
- Caithe: As dawn scatters shadows, so we will destroy them all.
- Caithe: We could not have done this without you. Thank you.
- <Character name>: You're welcome. You can count on me.
- Caithe: Good. Because Eir is right. The rest of the dragons are still out there, waiting.
Upon approaching the different groups of NPCs in Alseta Generator's plaza:
- Crusader Eilye Jeyne: So, tough guy: How'd a high profile swashbuckler like you get into the Order of Whispers?
- Benn Tenstrikes: I'm good at what they do. I may not fit their recruiting profile, but I get results.
- Benn Tenstrikes: What's your excuse? A vivacious lass like you joined the uptight and straight-laced Vigil?
- Crusader Eilye Jeyne: Ha! That makes two of us that "don't fit the profile." Let's have a drink and we can see what else we have in common.
- Merri Sunbower: Look at that swell-headed child. So busy chatting up Crusader Jeyne he doesn't even notice we're here.
- Fel Vaerdenmer: Leave him be. The last thing he needs in those circumstances is Mum and Dad looming over him.
- Fel Vaerdenmer: Besides, she's just what he needs. If those two hit it off, she'll straighten him right out.
- Beigarth: Why aren't you lot drinking? We're smiths! Ahh, don't tell me you're not thirsty after a long day's smelt.
- Occam: I don't much like large groups. Or small groups, come to think of it.
- Izu Steelshrike: I fear I am also more reserved than you, friend norn. Don't let that stop you.
- Izu Steelshrike: This is a celebration, after all, so we're counting on you to celebrate for all three of us.
- Bekk: All that, and still intact. I'm starting to believe we can survive anything.
- Hester Galen: That's always the last thing somebody says right before lightning strikes. Step away from Bekk.
- Urond Ramshearne: No, he's right. We should take on the next Elder Dragon ourselves. I hear the meat makes good sausages.
- Braccus Jawsmash: Well, they want to devour the world, right? Only fitting they wind up on the end of Urond's fork.
Talking to the different NPCs in Alseta Generator's plaza:
- Crusader Eilye Jeyne: Here's to <Character name>, who helped cleanse Orr, slay the dragon, and a bunch of other stuff. Cheers! Now excuse me, Commander. I'm talking shop with Mr. Tennstrikes[sic].
- Carry on, Crusader.
- Benn Tenstrikes: Hey there, <Character name>. Congratulations and all. Now could you go mingle over there? I'm trying to get to know the crusader a little better here.
- Good luck. I'd hate to have to start calling you "Benn Ten-Strikes Out."
- Merri Sunbower: Commander, this kind of gathering isn't usually to my taste, but since this is a special occasion, I'll make an exception and have my share of the fun.
- You deserve it, Merri. We all do.
- Fel Vaerdenmer: It felt great to be at sea again, even if it wasn't on a real ship and I wasn't the captain. Maybe next time, right?
- When the pact sets sail again, you're the first one we'll call.
- Izu Steelshrike: This was an intriguing and rewarding challenge, Commander. My people tend to keep to themselves, but when they hear about my experiences, I expect it'll draw out some.
- Glad to hear it. The Pact needs more talent like yours.
- Belgarth: My forge is famous throughout the world! My weapons have slain griffons, elementals, wurms, and now Elder Dragons. Commander, welcome! Care to join us?
- Later. I'd hate to interrupt your boasting.
- Occam: I'm honored to be included in the celebration, Commander. And though I loathe crowds, speaking with Beigarth makes it easier. All I have to do is smile and nod when he pauses for breath.
- That's a useful skill to have, Occam. Enjoy the party.
- Chef Leon Vourain: Greetings, Commander. See anything you like? I've got food and drink to honor the Pact's brave soldiers. Queen Jennah herself doesn't eat or drink this well.
- How about some champagne? (Gain a small keg)
- I'll have one of those deviled eggs.
- Not right now, thanks.
- Head Brewer Usla Hopfiend: Ale, ale, and more ale! Who's thirsty? By the flagon or by the keg, if you like the brew, I'm the one you talk to.
- Pour me a cold one. (Gain a small keg)
- Thank you, but I'd better wait until later.
- Libations Officer Neeba: Greetings, Commander. You're the highest-ranking officer I've had the pleasure to attend. Can I tempt your taste buds with some Rata Sum rum?
- Yes, please. Color me tempted. (Gain a bottle of rum)
- Not right now, thanks.
- Bekk: Superior party, Commander. I don't suppose you could extend the celebration by a week or two? My unit is already clamoring for the next battle, and I wouldn't mind a little more leasure.
- Tell them ro[sic] relax. There's plenty more fighting to do.
- (If the "failing my allies" fear missions have been completed)
- We all heard the truth about "Syska." On behalf of my squad, thanks for putting that piece of trash in the ground. I only wish we could have been there to facilitate.
- She's gone and we're here. Let's celebrate!
- Hester Galen: When I was assigned to this unit, I didn't think we'd last a single mission. Look at us now: the finest squad in the Pact. To us! And to you, Commander.
- That's the spirit, Hester. Savor this victory, and your role in it.
- Urond Ramshearne: Commander, care to join us in the feasting and the quaffing? On this special day, my appetite for meat and ale is exceeded only in my hunger for merriment!
- Maybe later. I've got a lot of people to see.
- Braccus Jawsmash: Sometimes I miss my warband. Then I remember how much fun it is to kill things with Urond and trade insults with Bekk. They're not charr, but they're fine soldiers.
- You are all. Enjoy the celebration.
- Agent Zrii: Great party, eh? I'm currently a little worse for wear, but I'm still having fun. My fellow inebriates are so easy to sneak up, I barely need stealth.
- Never off the clock are you? Take care, Zrii.
- Scholar Inkblood: You just missed Amphebe doing all her best tricks. She doesn't usually like parties, but even she knows this is a special occasion. Want me to wake her up for an encore?
- Not necessary. I'll catch up with her later.
- (Only if the Order of Whispers plan was not chosen in Further Into Orr)
- Elli: Hey, Commander! Don't leave me hoofing with a hologram. Show me what you've got, or everyone will know you fear the force of my feet!
- Challenge accepted! Let's dance! (character starts dancing)
- Maybe later, Elli. The party's just getting started.
Upon approaching the different groups of NPCs in Armada Harbor:
- Pact Demolitionist Strixel: Now that the battle's over, I'm dying to inspect the defensive systems on the Pact airships.
- Researcher Barron: Knock that kind of talk on its head, sonny. We've got some major merry to be makin'!
- Researcher Fero: Yeah! There'll be time to talk about cannons and time-release mines after the kegs have all run dry.
- Pact Demolitionist Strixel: Time-release mines? Genius! All right, let's polish off that ale so we can get back to business.
- Wjerd Bladeborn: Quiet now, quiet! A toast among the champions: to Marshal Trahearne and the cleansing of Orr!
- Famke the Fair: To the end of Zhaitan! The dragon had a good run, but was no match for us!
- Pier Darkmountain: No match for the Commander, you mean. To the Dragonslayer!
- Fibharr Ygosson: Aye, to the commander, the marshal, and the entire Pact. Drink!
- Gara: My people still face challenges. I'll meet them later. Now, we celebrate.
- Shashoo: Coo! So many, enjoying such a great victory. Quaggan is soOoo happy!
- Ftokchak: Slow-talker, just say, "We win, yes, yes! Horray! Now, drink more drinks!"
- Lagula: In all my years, that's the single smartest thing I've heard a skritt say.
Talking to the different NPCs in Armada Harbor:
- Pact Demolitionist Strixel: Isn't this great? The dragon is dead, everybody's happy and I'm talking shop with Barron and Fero. Well, I think I am. It's hard to keep track with these two.
- Don't worry about it. Just let them babble and enjoy the party.
- Researcher Barron: Oi, Commander! Bet you can settle a dust-up between me and Fero here: which is better, charr cannons or asuran electro-thaumic ray gun thingies?
- I don't know, but this isn't the time to argue. It's time to celebrate.
- Researcher Fero: Well, knot my ears and call me a sheepshank, Commander. I'm fielding inquries from these two jokers, and let me tell you: the queries are flying faster than a skritt swipes shinies.
- This is a party, Fero. The conversation's supposed to be lively.
- Wjerd Bladeborn: My slight build makes the bigger and bulkier here think I'm at a disadvantage. Ha! Body weight means nothing in a drinking contest. A fighting heart and an indomitable spirit bridge any gap!
- I look forward to seeing you prove that.
- Famke the Fair: This is the life! Combat! Victory! Revelry! I'm going to find someone as comely as I am and see how many heads we can turn.
- I see a rash of strained neck muscles in this party's future.
- Pier Darkmountain: The next time we face an Elder Dragon, I'm going to fit it with a bridle, strap on my spurs, and ride it clear around the world!
- Save a place for me. The view would be fantastic.
- Esmet Ravenswhisper: All the Spirits of the Wild are watching, Commander, and they approve. Especially Raven. The wit and cunning required to defeat Zhaitan...breathtaking!
- I hope they enjoy the show.
- Ayla Piersdottir: Watch closely, Commander. Pier and Wijerd just challenged me to an ale-quaffing contest. I'm going to put them both under the table.
- Is anyone taking bets, because my money's on you.
- Fibharr Ygosson: I hate to muscle in on your victory, Commander, but this is just the sort of thing that will redeem my legend once and for all. Fibharr the champion is back!
- This victory belongs to all of us, Fibharr. Enjoy your share.
- Gara: I've seen more than I ever dreamed possible. The dragon wielded godly power, but the Pact destroyed it anyway. I have much to think about, much to share with my people.
- A new way of thinking for their new home. Good luck, Gara. (when racial sympathy was grawl)
- There'll be time for thinking later. Right now, we celebrate. (otherwise)
- Speaker Ikniu: I kept my vow: I slayed countless Risen to avenge my brother. Fighting dragons makes the world safer for my people. When you or your Pact need us, we will aid you.
- Until then, I look forward to seeing the new grounds you've settled. (when racial sympathy was hylek)
- Thank you. Now, please, relax and enjoy the celebration. (otherwise)
- Shashoo: Hoo, Commander! Quaggan congratulates you and the Pact. Quaggan has learned a lot by joining the fight. Quaggan will need that experience if quaggan wants to lead.
- That's great, Shashoo. You'll make a great varonos someday. (when racial sympathy was quaggan)
- Glad to hear it. I hope we see more quaggans in the Pact soon. (otherwise)
- Ftokchak: Pact party, yes-yes! Victory, fun, shinies, shinies, shinies! Commander is my best friend...ever. Underground rock dragon next, yes-yes? Can't have new scratch go boom like old one.
- Don't worry, Ftockchak. Your new scratch will be safe. (when racial sympathy was skritt)
- Perhaps. We'll focus on whichever dragon is the most pressing threat. (otherwise)
- Lagula: I heard a minstrel singing about how we ogres tried to tame Zhaitan instead of killing it. It makes us sound like fools. If I see him again, I'm going to tame his mouth.
- It's just a joke, Lagula. We're celebrating, remember? (when racial sympathy was ogre)
- Just don't kill him. It'd spoil such a festive occasion. (otherwise)
Upon approaching the different groups of NPCs outside Caer Aval:
- Gixx: This is truly remarkable, and so I shall remark upon it: we have achieved the unthinkable!
- Riel Darkwater: We've all been thinking it, Gixx. It took the commander and the marshal to make it happen.
- Gixx: There's plenty yet to do. More dragons to confront, and I'm delivering an important lecture in the morning.
- General Almorra Soulkeeper: Listen to yourselves. I swear, spies and scholars. This is a victory party. Shut up and start having fun!
Talking to the different NPCs outside Caer Aval:
- Gixx: Ah, Commander. Join us in a toast. May the remaining Elder Dragons follow Zhaitan into the Mists and, eventually, into irrelevance!
- And may they do so faster than Zhaitan did.
- (As Priory)
- Quite the soiree, Commander. Since you've gotten such good results as Pact Commander, the Priory can spare you for a little while longer. I'm sure you'll make up the time later.
- Absolutely. Once the Elder Dragons are all dealt with.
- General Almorra Soulkeeper: You and the Pact have done well, Commander. I'm glad to be a part of it. May this be the first of many such celebrations.
- Agreed. To victory, and the Pact!
- (As Vigil)
- This is the Vigil's greatest victory yet, all thanks to you and the Pact. I'm proud to have you among my ranks. I salute you, Commander. Let this be the first of many such celebrations.
- Thank you, General.
- Riel Darkwater: One down, four to go. May they never see us coming until it's too late!
- Cheers to that.
- (As Order of Whispers)
- One-fifth of our order's primary goal: complete. Nicely done, Commander. And a big, loud party like this one helps conceal the preparations we're making for the next Elder Dragon confrontation.
- I'll be ready for the next dragon, Mas-I mean, Riel.
- Sayeh al' Rajihd: You continue to impress me, Commander. No one in any of the Tethyos Houses has ever taken down such an imposing target. I shall be watching to see what you accomplish next.
- When you say that, it sounds like a threat.
- Only a fool would warn her prey with a threat...unless that threat was part of a plan, of course. But enough of such things. Go, Commander. Celebrate your victory.
- I hope you'll join us...and stay where I can see you.
- Thanks. Rest assured I'll be watching for you, too.
- Demmi Beetlestone: It's an honor to meet you, Commander. I'm Demmi from the Order of Whispers. I'm not as high profile as the Preceptors—well, you know what I mean—but on behalf of us all, thank you.
- You're welcome.
- (As Order of Whispers)
- Congratulations, <Character name>. When I first saw you, I never imagined we'd end up here. We should toast to Tybalt...or maybe we should get a few pirates in here so you can out-drink them, eh?
- Let's start small. To Tybalt!
Upon approaching the different groups of NPCs inside Caer Aval:
- Galina Edgecrusher: So I said, "The thing you're best at is pressing laundry. That's why you're the Iron Legion!"
- Snarl Backdraft: In front of Tribune Goreblade? You Bloodies really are crazy. He hates that joke.
- Galina Edgecrusher: So what? Brimstone and Desertgrave laughed. Two tribunes pro, one con. The joke's funny.
- Snarl Backdraft: Can't argue with that—not when whiskey's a-callin'. (laughs) Come on, funny girl: let's have another!
Talking to the different NPCs inside Caer Aval:
- Galina Edgecrusher: Snarl...he growls at me all the time. In battle, in victory, in defeat...whatever. I think he's got a thing for me, but it's hard to tell with Ash-trash.
- I'm not getting between you two for any reason. Good luck, though.
- Snarl Backdraft: Stick around, Commander. Galina will never admit it, but she's head-over-tail in love with me. For a Bloodie, she's surprisingly subtle about such things.
- Either she's subtle, or you're wrong. Either way, have fun.
- Crusader Afanen: The Pale Reavers are with you, Commander. Winning wars and celebrating victories—whenever you need us, we'll be.
- Glad to hear it. There'll be plenty of both in the future.
- Warden Hywel: A magnificent celebration for a magnificent victory. And when the festivity ends, the Pale Reavers will be ready for the next battle.
- Until then, enjoy the party.
- (If the "making another suffer" fear missions have been completed)
- If you and Apatia hadn't rescued me from the krait, I would never have lived to see this. Will you join me in a toast for her memory?
- Of course. To Apatia!
- Quartermaster Hargrove: The battle's over, but the war isn't. Before you get yourself a hangover, get yourself a fine weapon!
- What have you got? (opens list with pact weapons)
- Thanks, but I'm all set for now.
- (Only if the Order of Whispers plan was chosen in Further Into Orr)
- Elli: Please tell Marshal Trahearne how much I appreciate the memorial. Zott and the others deserve every honor we can bestow, and then some.
- I'll make sure no one forgets. The memorial is just the beginning.
- (If "Close the Eye" has been completed)
- Scholar Blaithnat: My mind is clearer, the overwhelming dread is gone. I was so afraid, so alone, but now I know I'm back among friends.
- Friends? You mean all those cats?
- Who else? Initially, I was so skittish I couldn't even look at people. But these felines stayed with me, kept me company, helped me to adjust. They make me feel happy. At peace.
- I'm glad you all found each other.
- Glad to hear it. The more you put it behind you, the better.
When talking to Trahearne (cinematic):
- <Character name>: Hiding from the crowds, Trahearne? That won't do. The world needs to see the Pact Marshal celebrating!
- Trahearne: Not hiding, my friend, thinking. Completing my Wyld Hunt lifted a weight from me, but Zhaitan is still a terrible threat.
- Trahearne: Now that threat is truly gone, it feels like the sun has finally emerged after a cold, endless night.
- Trahearne: I can't help but wonder...what's next? Now that we've formed this unstoppable alliance and tempered it in battle, where do we take it?
- <Character name>: To the next challenge. The next victory. There are more Elder Dragons to confront...and now we know how. We know they can be defeated.
- <Character name>: First, we celebrate. We won, Marshal. It would be a crime not to stop and appreciated that.
- <Character name>: Come on. There's an army of people and an ocean of libations waiting. All of Tyria deserves to share this triumph, including you. Join us!
After the cinematic on the way back to the crowd:
- Trahearne: The world owes you a great debt, Commander. As long as I am Marshal of the Pact, I will see that debt honored.
- Trahearne: My only regret is that I was not there to see Zhaitan fall. But I shall look forward to the skaalds celebrating your triumph.
- Trahearne: Congratulations, Commander. We've earned the right to set down our burdens for a time and celebrate.
When Trahearne meets with Destiny's Edge (cinematic):
- Trahearne: Zhaitan's defeat has saved many lives. More importantly, it has restored hope to a desperate world.
- Trahearne: The dragons are not stars in the sky. They can be counted. They can be fought. One day, we will kill the last of them. Only then will Tyria be safe.
- Trahearne: This is a new beginning for Orr, and for Tyria—a clear sky after a long storm.
- Trahearne: This is a dawn that Tyria shall never forget.
- Trahearne: This day is ours.
Talking to Trahearne:
- Trahearne: I know you're probably tired of hearing this—especially from me—but thank you, Commander. We've come a long way and have a long way to go, but for now, this is a well-deserved respite.
- I agree. And we'll deal with the other dragons the same way: together.
After the credits:
- Wozmack the Wonderful: Ta-daaa! Hmm...okay, what'd I miss?
Talking to Wozmack the Wonderful:
- Wozmack the Wonderful: Well, this is clearly the place to be. A suitable enthusiastic crowd for Tyria's best traveling magician. Hello, people of...say, where am I anyway?
- Does it matter? I've seen your act, and it never changes. (talking to him the first time only, if human noble)
- Wait! You're the Hero of Shaemoor. Don't be lulled into complacency by what you've seen before, my noble friend. Wozmack is constantly expanding his repertoire. Constantly!
- Really? Go on, then. Show me something new. (same as "Magician, eh? Show me something, then. Dazzle me.")
- Just enjoy the celebration and try to stay unexploded, all right?
- Magician, eh? Show me something, then. Dazzle me. (talking to him the first time only, otherwise)
- Certainly! Now, let me be clear: most scholars agree that a different hue constitutes an entirely different trick. Purple is quite distinct from mauve, or aubergine, or violaceous...
- Just get on with it, tricksy.
- You still owe me a trick. A real trick, not a color shift. (talking to him the second time only)
- You wound me! The subtleties of magic-driven chromaticity are...well, never mind. If you're a bird lover like me, perhaps this will be more to your liking.
- Sounds good. Make with the avians.
- You're zero for two, Wozmack. What else you got? (talking to him the third time only)
- Whew! Fort Trinity is definitely what we in the bizz call a "tough room." All right, get your dancing shoes on, because it's time to party like a flock of giant birds!
- This better be good.
- You're in Fort Trinity, magic man. Settle in and enjoy the party.
My story[edit]
|
Notes[edit]
- This mission was split from The Ruined City of Arah (story) with the June 23rd (2015) update.
- If you interact with the cannons after Zhaitan has been defeated, they will shoot at the air.
- It is difficult to target Ogravros the Moondeath, Fafnarin the Heartslayer, or Horrogos the Soulbreaker with action camera engaged. Try to focus the center dot of your screen exactly on the dragons' red targets (next to their necks).
- The NPCs will not defend you during the dragon fights.
Trivia[edit]
- Victory or Death is a former Guild Wars Guild versus Guild mechanic in which guild lords for both teams will go into sudden death after enough time has elapsed.
- The instance ends with the song "Fear Not This Night" from the Guild Wars 2 Soundtrack featuring vocalist Asja Kadric.
- Afterward, all the races theme songs will play in the following order: asura (Snaff's Workshop), charr (The Charr Triumphant), human (Heritage of Humanity), norn (The Saga of the Norn), sylvari (Out of the Dream).
- These are then followed by the theme songs of the Orders of Tyria, presumably starting with the Order of Whispers (unrecognizable song, perhaps Almora's Revelation or The Heart of Rata Sum), then unmistakably followed the Durmand Priory (The Vaults of the Priory), and the Vigil (The Vigil Goes to War). Finally, the song that plays in the instanced headquarters of the Order of Tyria that the player character joined will just play over and over.[verification requested]
- Afterward, all the races theme songs will play in the following order: asura (Snaff's Workshop), charr (The Charr Triumphant), human (Heritage of Humanity), norn (The Saga of the Norn), sylvari (Out of the Dream).
- During June 2013, credits were added to the final instance during Fear Not This Night, timed to end with the song ended. These credits were removed sometime between October 2015 and February 2016.
- After Fear Not This Night ends, Wozmack the Wonderful will appear. His appearance is a continuation of his final trick from Welcome Home of the human noble storyline. Interacting with him prompts him to perform various tricks, with a finale that includes confetti and a flock of dancing, ghostly moas.
- The ghostly white moa can be charmed. The others do not appear to be able to.
