Rewards[edit]

Walkthrough[edit]

Kill the small titans on the way to the boss fight. When prompted, use the special action key to plant 3 lightning rods (this can be done whilst mounted). Attack the boss for a bit, then defend the lightning rods by killing the six small titans. When prompted to, switch to your Warclaw, use chain skill 3 on the boss and then run through the checkpoints. Keep fighting until the boss reaches 25%, at which point the boss runs off. Climb up the cliff and take the portal to escape the battle.

In the new instance, pick up the medical supplies from the stairs and interact with Poised Arrow to trigger further dialogue.

  • Simply get to the three Lightning Rods after Decima's armor has been fractured once and kill the 2 titanspawn at each one.
    • Any way to move quickly helps here, as does some form of Condition removal to more quickly be able to get out of combat and mount up. Alternatively use the warclaw which can be mounted in combat.
  • Eligibility can be tracked via Achievement effect.png Achievement Eligibility: Lightning Defense.

  • After planting the three lightning rods, simply stand on the green lines betweem Decima and her pylons whenever they appear.
    • This causes unblockable damage, so make sure to have at least half health and some healing ready.
    • The game only tracks progress via the achievement incrementing upward so it might be somewhat hard to keep track of successes.
    • You only need to block the hits 5 times, so an easy way to do it is to run around without hitting her, this way you wont trigger her other phases.
Forgiveness Janthir Wilds: Act 2 1Achievement points
Witness an exchange of apology and acceptance.Journal: Twice Stricken Witnessed a Reconciliation 1Achievement points
  • Simply speak with Waiting Sorrow after finishing the mission (completing the objective "Determine next steps.") but before leaving the instance, and wait out her conversation with Poised Arrow.

Dialogue[edit]

Approaching your allies
Caithe: So, lightning seems disproportionalety attracted to this area? Can't be coincidence.
Malice Swordshadow: Isgarren told us to expect numbers. Sound like they're adding up.
<Character name>: Footprint evidence. Wildlife behavior. Lightning strikes. It all pointed in this direction. Poised Arrow can attest.
Poised Arrow: It's...near. I sense it...in the air. The way it...looms...
If charr
<Character name>: Even my fur's on end. Sure you're-
If ???
<Character name>: This place makes me uneasy. Sure you're-
Poised Arrow: Yes. I've...had time to center myself. Appreciate the concern. I do. But you don't need to fuss.
Poised Arrow: Wayfinder, I'll match your pace. It'll help me steady my focus.
Fight 1 Starts
Malice Swordshadow: Incoming!
Caithe: These things again! You'll fall just like your rotten friends.
Fight 1 Ends
Malice Swordshadow: My fur is crackling. Might hate these more than the rotting ones.
Fight 2 Starts
Caithe: More of them!
Fight 2 Ends
<Character name>: You said you've been to these isles before?
Poised Arrow: Not this far north. Most people stay clear of this shore. Unless they have a death wish.
Caithe: We've been known for worse things...
Approaching the fight site
Poised Arrow: Where are you?
Malice Swordshadow: Cowering. Just like the other one. What now? Gonna send more little friends to fight for you?
Poised Arrow: Coward! Show yourself!
Decima, the Stormsinger: WHO DARES DISTURB THE DEN OF THE GREAT DECIMA-
Cutscene
Decima, the Stormsinger: Oh, look how small they are! All the way down there. So cute and miniscule...
Decima, the Stormsinger: Thought this would take effort.
Decima, the Stormsinger: Is that what has my darlings all riled up? A few fleas got into my nest?
Decima, the Stormsinger: Well, we can't have that. It's unclean. I'll just have to show them...
Decima, the Stormsinger: What do we do when pests sneak into our home?
Decima, the Stormsinger: We squash them.
Before plant lightniing rods
Malice Swordshadow: Not even putting a dent in her. She's just siphoning energy back with those conduits.
Poised Arrow: Wayfinder, you've still got those rods we used earlier? What if you plant them around? Draw energy away from her.
<Character name>: Not a bad idea.
While plant lightniing rods
Malice Swordshadow: Not so tough now, are you?
Poised Arrow: It's working! A bit more should do it.
Caithe: Getting some lightning strikes! Keep at it!
(at ~75% HP)
Malice Swordshadow: Her armor is cracking! Commander, can you wedge your warclaw's chain harpoon in there? Maybe we can throw her off balance!
Malice Swordshadow: Yeah! Pull her down!
Malice Swordshadow: Burn me, she's...glowing? Must be some kind of inner core.
Caithe: Seems rather sensitive, so...keep hitting it!
(at ~60% HP)
Poised Arrow: Damn it! They're surrounding the lightning rods. Get them!
Malice Swordshadow: Commander, focus on Decima. We'll handle these pests.
(at ~30% HP)
<Character name>: Think I've got a shot at breaking more of her armor. I'll ready my warclaw.
Malice Swordshadow: (snarls) Get her.
(at ~25% HP)
Poised Arrow: What? No! We've come too far!
Poised Arrow: (winces)
Caithe: Poky!
Malice Swordshadow: Poised Arrow!
<Character name>: Hold on, I'm coming to help you!
Poised Arrow: Couldn't risk her getting the upper hand.
<Character name>: Know when to step away.
Decima, the Stormsinger: (indecipherable)
Decima, the Stormsinger: NOW, you lazy slug! I can smell your rot from here! How did I get stuck with a selfish pissant for a brother?
Decima, the Stormsinger: And which of your groveling toadies did you hide behind? I KNOW you didn't fight them yourself!
Decima, the Stormsinger: If you don't get over here RIGHT NOW, I'll tell her all about it.
<Character name>: Is she talking to-
Malice Swordshadow: I think so. I...think they can communicate.
Caithe: Then Greer is still alive? And they're coordinated.
<Character name>: We're down an ally. Retreat! I'll send a distress message to the alliance-
Poised Arrow: No. This is my doing. I'll...call Auror - Waiting Sorrow.
Poised Arrow: Hello? Waiting Sorrow - anyone?
Poised Arrow: Damn thing doesn't work!
Caithe: Let's try the high ground. Up this way!
On a higher ground
Poised Arrow: I...need help.
Waiting Sorrow: What's wrong?
Poised Arrow: I-I'm hurt. I'm at-
Waiting Sorrow: I know where you are. I'll conjure you a portal.
Decima, the Stormsinger: Scurry home now, little fleas.

Hearth's Glow[edit]

Waiting Sorrow: Look at you! (gasps) Your leg!
Poised Arrow: It's nothing. Just needs bandaging.
Waiting Sorrow: Bandaging.
Waiting Sorrow: Stay still.
After bandaging
Waiting Sorrow: What were you thinking? Trekking the isles alone. Battling monsters.
Waiting Sorrow: And you didn't think it was wise to stop him? To ask for my help sooner?
If charr
<Character name>: Figured I'm lettin' you roam free. So why not the cub?
If human
<Character name>: "I suppose I've made more questionable choices. What's one more?"
If sylvari
<Character name>: If I can trust Caithe and you, I can certainly trust the kid.
Poised Arrow: But it's all fine and grand when you do it-take off to fight without telling us where you are.
Poised Arrow: Or who.
Waiting Sorrow: My situation... It's different. I have better means to protect myself-
Poised Arrow: You can kill more easily.
Waiting Sorrow: It's never easy.
Waiting Sorrow: There's more to magic than causing harm. Protection. Attunement to the world around you.
Waiting Sorrow: Healing.
Waiting Sorrow: How are you feeling now?
Poised Arrow: Better. A lot better.
Waiting Sorrow: Those who use magic only to destroy practice destruction
Waiting Sorrow: True wizards know magic as a practice of balance.
Waiting Sorrow: That's where real power comes from.
Speaking with Caithe and Malice
Caithe: Let's give them a moment. Those titans have done a number on the ecosystem. Could tend to some things around here.
Malice Swordshadow: The cub will need a bit to recuperate, anyway. Might as well use the downtime to think up a plan.
Talk to Caithe
Caithe: Poor Poky. I do hope he'll be all right.
Talk quest option tango.png Hanging in there, Caithe?
Talk end option tango.png With all of those who care for him, he will be.
Caithe: I'm fine, truly. Finding my joy in watching the two of them figure it out.
Caithe: Waiting Sorrow is incredible. And far more empathetic than Isgarren.
Caithe: I joined this mission to get to know the Astral Ward. To see if they would be at all helpful in healing the Pale Tree.
Caithe: Dagonet and I are desperate. Mother... You'd think she'd have made more progress by now, but still she wilts.
Caithe: Perhaps someone like Sorrow is exactly who we're looking for...
Talk to Malice
Malice Swordshadow: Some fight back there. Suppose it could have gone a little better.
Talk quest option tango.png You in one piece?
Talk end option tango.png Yeah.
Malice Swordshadow: Yeah, no scratches.
Malice Swordshadow: Thinking a lot about Crecia and the vote. I was mad-let her see that I was mad. I'm an imperator. That's not good.
Malice Swordshadow: But that's not the point. Her choice wasn't wrong; we didn't know enough.
Malice Swordshadow: And now we know that there are two titans. Do we hunt them down while they're weak? Do we have time to wait? I don't know.
Forgiveness (Talk quest option tango.png Waiting Sorrow)
Waiting Sorrow: Poky...Poised Arrow-sorry. I'm sorry. That I lied to you. That my lie put you in danger...
Poised Arrow: Maw called me Poky because "I was always watching leaves float down the stream." Paws never clean. Eyes to the sky, I was.
Poised Arrow: Paws didn't call me Poky until she died. Think he started doing it to remind me on her. Worked, it did! Heh. I miss her.
Waiting Sorrow: I wish I'd known your maw longer.
Poised Arrow: Me too. Impatient, she could be. But she was kind. And strong. She would've been a great Claw.
Poised Arrow: Grandmaw had already woven a blanket for Maw's Rite of the Sun Path. We, uh... We burned it when she died.
Waiting Sorrow: I remember that bonfire. I still felt like an outsider then.
Waiting Sorrow: But listening to everyone weep together was the most connected I'd felt with the bearkin in a very, very long while.
Poised Arrow: Fit in, you do. Even if you are some "wizard." Whatever that means.
Poised Arrow: Do you think you're gonna go back? To the sky watchers?
Waiting Sorrow: I don't know yet, Poised Arrow. I have many mistakes to atone for...trust to regain. Yours included.
Poised Arrow: You can call me Poky.
Waiting Sorrow: Poky!

My Story[edit]

Twice Stricken loading screen.png

After aiding Poised Arrow in field research, we followed our lead to what we believed to be the secondary titan's location. Since the Waiting Sorrow revelation, Poky's seemed a bit subdued from his usual gregarious self. Understandably, given the magnitude of the situation—titans and newly learned truths. Along our route, we fought through waves of protective minions, this time conductive in nature. We didn't have to travel far for our suspicions to be proved correct: Decima, a self-assured conduit titan, now confronts us face-to-face. Time to bring this chaos to an end.

***

Our allies put up a strong fight, utilizing techniques learned in our titan research; with the clever use of lightning rods, we pulled the odds in our favor—at least, for a time. But the tides quickly turned against us. Despite Poised Arrow's additional backup, Decima's defenses stood strong. Things went from bad to worse when it became clear midfight that Decima had the upper hand. And Greer...was not so dead. Not only is our prior opponent alive and likely healed despite our believing him defeated, but the two titans are working in concert.

As our weight shifted to the back foot, we did gain a potentially critical piece of information that explains our failure to defeat Greer in the first place: the titans' armor seems to protect some sort of vulnerable inner core. With the help of my journeykin, I proved my assumption and was able to remove the titan's armor, rendering her core vulnerable to attacks. And any vulnerability is worth exploring.

Tragically, our battle was cut short when Poised Arrow fell, injured. With an ally down and the threat of an appearance from Greer looming, I made the decision to retreat. Poised Arrow didn't take the decision well, blaming himself for our loss. Truthfully, even if all our allies had remained on their feet the entire battle, I don't know if our efforts would have been enough. While that prospect greatly concerns me, I have no time to linger on it now. First and foremost, our focus is on getting Poky into Waiting Sorrow's care. Once more, the titans must wait. Though at this point, they're not the only ones with tested patience.

***

Poised Arrow is now recovering under the care of Waiting Sorrow. Despite his initial hesitance, Poky allowed Waiting Sorrow to perform some recovery magic on him. Though he needs rest, he already appears on the mend, as does the fractured relationship between the two. With Poised Arrow recuperating, the rest of us must figure out a plan for eliminating the titans. I feel as though we're on the verge of a breakthrough with the recent developments in information regarding the titans, but I'm not sure it will be enough to defeat them entirely. Perhaps there's some other missing piece critical to us securing a victory. One thing's for sure: the titans won't wait around idly while we figure it out.
