Ambient dialogue[edit]

Around a campfire south of Harvest Plots
Ashmaker: My little cubs, who can tell me the story of the Claw that lead his bearkin away from the dragonstorm?
Restless Fawn: Oh, me! I can!
Ashmaker: Go ahead, Restless Fawn. Tell us your tale.
Restless Fawn: Long, long ago, there was a Claw just like ours. He led almost all of the bearkin all by himself!
Ashmaker: All by himself?
Restless Fawn: Well, not all by himself. He had the help of his mate, the Voice. He loved her a lot.
Restless Fawn: But the Claw faced a great challenge, he did. The Elder Dragons woke up, and a big storm came.
Restless Fawn: The bearkin were all stuck in their caves, and the Claw didn't know what to do. His mate was troubled by something.
Restless Fawn: And one day, she went missing. But there was also a break in the storm!
Restless Fawn: Just a quick one! And the Claw had a really tough choice to make: wait for his Voice, or lead his people somewhere safer.
Blessed by Waves: What did he choose?
Restless Fawn: The bearkin, of course. He missed his mate so much, but he knew that if they stayed...they might die. So he brought them here.
Ashmaker: And here we have lived ever since. Wonderful, Restless Fawn. An ashmaker you will be.
Ashmaker: Some of the bearkin left over time—many went to Orr to follow their...own paths. But many of us stayed.
Ashmaker: Right here. Tucked away in nature.
Around Harvest Plots
Kodan Cub: I don't get why Frantic Hummingbird is making such a fuss.
Kodan Cub: You've just got to taste the soil to know which veggies will grow best.
Kodan Cub: If it tastes sour, then carrots and potatoes will be so happy.
Kodan Cub: If it's bitter, then pumpkins and tomatoes are the way to go!
Villager (1): A bit light this year, the harvest. S'pose the season's still young.
Villager (2): Friend of mine up north says the crop's grown in a bit patchy. Sounds like they're getting hit with some mean storms.
Villager (2): Doubt it's anything worth worrying about. Besides, we've got plenty stored for the deep freeze already.
Villager (1): I should get started on that myself. Cooking's the last thing I'll feel like doing midtorpor.
Villager (1): (chuckles)
Villager (2): (chuckles)
South of Wry Lichen's House
Seething Sinter: Snowborn, you're not headed to the ridge, are you?
Snowborn: I was, but worry touches your eyes. What is it?
Seething Sinter: The cubs have been sharing a story among themselves. About a creature near the ridge. They call it the "Slithering Cub Eater."
Snowborn: Slithering Cub Eater? A tale, I'm sure. You know better than to believe the cubs, Sinter.
Seething Sinter: I do, but I heard a cry on a moonbound hunt. I didn't see the beast, but I caught its shadow—slid right out of sight.
Snowborn: Mm. Maybe I'll craft a few more arrows, then...
North of Wry Lichen's House
Kodan Cub (1): My paw told us that he heard some bees buzzing near the fishing village, coming from below the dirt!
Kodan Cub (2): Your paw's imagining things. Bees can't dig!
Kodan Cub (1): Nuh-uh! My paw's not a liar!
Kodan Cub (2): Uh-huh! I've only ever seen bees in trees! Underground bees sound silly.
Kodan Cub (1): I'm going to find them and prove you wrong!
On the stairs west of Bonfire Lodge
Smiling Fox: We should join the dance tonight, don't you think?
Bitter Olive: I don't know... What if Twig is there? What if I trip and Twig sees me trip?
Smiling Fox: Oh, who cares about Twig. And you won't trip! Not if I'm your dancing partner.
Bitter Olive: Well, you're the best dancer. I'd just get in your way.
Smiling Fox: Shush, you. Let's go practice in the garden. Have your footwork up to speed in no time, we will.
In Bonfire Lodge
Kodan Cub: And then, if the valravn finds a corpse, it pecks its heart right out! Cub hearts are their favorite.
Kodan Cub: If it eats one, it turns into a knight! Drinking blood and channeling darkness and—
Astral Ward Protector: A-and this creature is from a children's tale?
Kodan Cub: Uh-huh. So we remember not to go to the cliffs alone.
Kodan Cub: Brave, you newcomers are. You go alone to all sorts of scary places us kodan never would. Like the bog—
Astral Ward Protector: E-excuse me, I need to make a call to my superior...
In Denning Forge
Crafter: Now, you want wood that's sturdy but flexible. That's why we get it from saplings.
Crafter: Too hard and it cracks when you work it. Too soft and it bends and warps. Won't do any good then.
Apprentice Crafter: Oh, I see... Is that why we have that clearing with all the little trees?
Crafter: Exactly. All right, now let's take a quick break. Then we'll get back to binding the spearhead.
Hardy Paws: Heading out again, fresh claws? You have that look in your eye.
Sure Footing: Soon. My foraging has yielded very little so far.
Sure Footing: Heard tell of glass stones and petrified wood along the western coast; proper accents for a first spear.
Hardy Paws: Good. Good! When you return, bring me what you've found.
Hardy Paws: Certain I have a few ingots and baubles lying around to add to your materials, if you'd like.
Sure Footing: Hardy Paws, I—
Hardy Paws: Proud your kin would be, were they still here. It's the least I can do.
Northwest of Bearpaw Fields
Astral Ward Protector: I'll bet you've hunted all manner of ferocious beasts, with those big, burly arms.
Villager: I, er, well... I tend to the village, mostly. Cart what needs cartin'. Keep stores full. Look after the ducks.
Villager: Like ducks.
Astral Ward Protector: O-oh...
Villager: I-if you want, I could maybe...show you 'round where we feed 'em?
Astral Ward Protector: Oh!
South of Fading Aurora's House
Babbling Brook: The falls near Harvest Den are the best there are. The power of the one to the right, and the gentle flow of the left.
Misty Falls: No. No! The one upstream from the fishing hamlet. Hearing the crash of the logs as they tumble down... Ah.
Babbling Brook: Well, what about the one in the village? It's the only one you can bathe under. And it has a cave.
Misty Falls: Wait, no... Perhaps we are both wrong. The falls near the hot springs!
Babbling Brook: Of course.
Around Stoic Alder's House
Carping Gaze: Typical. No seasonal decor, small firewood pile. You'd think with Poised Arrow living here...
Carping Gaze: Meager garden offerings, too.
Carping Gaze: Porch is unswept. Filthy. (sighs) Tundra take me.
Carping Gaze: Fence is unfinished, too. Embarrassing this is, as his neighbor.
Carping Gaze: Maybe he'll sort it out if I craft him a nice gate?
Carping Gaze: A potted tree? In such a small vase? Dark sorcery this must be! What has this village come to?
Northwest of Sleuth Brawlfields
Villager (1): Do not be foolish. Barbed Vale trains every day; our Claw is tough, but he no longer needs to fight.
Villager (2): Just because he does not fight does not mean the skill is not still there, buried deep, waiting.
Villager (1): The strength is there; cannot deny that. But without use, a spearhead rusts, the wood corrodes, the water stagnates.
Villager (2): You forget, the Claw knows what Vale can do.
Villager (2): She knows little about what power is waiting in the gentle river, not seeing the falls just around the bend.
