Sure. What can I do to help?

Some of these crops are infested with insects. Unfortunately, unlike the others, these can't be cleansed by peaceful means. They eat into the crop wholly, destroying it from within.

So we need to get rid of them?

Correct. We must burn the infested crops to prevent the spread. Grab a torch from the bonfire, and use it on the ailing ones. Please be careful not to burn the healthy crops.

Glad to. We've been growing these crops for countless seasons. The water flowing through this particular spot allows us to continuously grow and harvest here, keeping us fed in the winter.

Thank you, Wayfinder. Forgive my earlier boldness. As this infestation rages, I run myself ragged containing it.

You see, there are many manners in which to determine a land's health. Personally, I read the birds.

When conditions are poor, they seek more bountiful lands. Fewer birds often signifies sickness in soil or weather.

Lately, they've been scarce, leaving our crops vulnerable to infestation. Thus, I've resorted to burnings.

But the birds' migration concerns me most. My bearkin warn me of strange weather and encroaching predators in the isles.
