Walkthrough[edit]
You will meet up with a number of other Order of Whispers operatives in the central plaza of Lion's Arch. While Claw Island has been lost, the Risen have not fully infiltrated the city yet, so there is still some time to keep them at bay while the evacuation of the citizens is taking place. The first cinematic brings you up to speed - skipping it will likely bug the mission out later, so it is recommended not to skip it. Your character then volunteers to patrol the Canal Ward. Go to each of the quest markers on the map; there will be NPCs at each one, who will run away after some Risen spawn nearby. Once you have gone to each location and secured it (such that the map marker disappears), head back to the central plaza, and the mission is over. Note that the location with the three children actually has two separate groups of Risen - one at where the children are, and one just to the north.
Risen Plague Carriers explode for massive AoE damage and cause several conditions. Skills that summon extra allies can be very helpful - while Trahearne joins you on this mission, he tends to hang back and use ranged attacks, so the Plague Carriers will tend to target you first.

Mail upon leaving previous instance:
Whispers in the Dark Special Ops By decoding a complex pattern of obscure marks, you read the following message: All available operatives are recalled, effective immediately. Meet in Lion's Arch, near the sewers exit in the Agora. —Whispers in the Dark |
At Trader's Forum[edit]
On the way to the meeting point:
- Lionguard: Lock your doors, and don't open them until the Lionguard call the all-clear!
- Lionguard: We need help locking down the southwestern beach! Let's move!
Talking to the Lionguard Captain:
- Lionguard Captain: What are you doing out here, citizen?
- What's going on?
- Lion's Arch is in full lockdown. The stores are shuttered, asura gates shut down. We must evacuate!
- I'll hurry out of the city.
- I'll hurry to safety.
Approaching the Preceptors:
- Doern Velazquez: Agent Riel, is the commodore aware of the situation?
- Riel Darkwater: He is, sir. The city's being evacuated in accordance with the Master of Whispers' plan.
- Doern Velazquez: Excellent. Now, then, are we all assembled?
Talking to allies:
- Agent Ihan: (As human)I am glad to see you, <Character name>. When they told me you'd been there at Claw Island, I feared the worst. And Tybalt...
- He will be missed.
- Indeed he will.
He became a close friend.
- Make them pay.
- Count on it.
I'll make the dragon's minions pay for his death.
- Order will remember his name.
- In Leftpaw's name, then, let's smash some Orrian flesh!
- Indeed!
I won't let Tybalt be forgotten. The - Maybe we'll talk latter.
- (Otherwise) They say the battle at Claw Island was fierce. I'm glad to see you're safe.
- I did the best I could.
- Korukhan the Blacksmith: (As charr) Tybalt! Gone! I wish I could have protected him.
- We'll raise a mug to him when we're done fighting.
- Agreed.
He died as he lived.
- Well said.
- Count on it.
He fought like the fiercest cat, and died like a hero.
- He'lll[sic] be remembered in the records of the Order.
- We'll see to that.
He truly shined in the field.
- Maybe we'll talk later.
- (Otherwise) Glad to see you here. We'll need your courage.
- Thanks.
- Agent Ifwyn: (As norn) Good to see you, <Character name>. I heard about Claw Island. Poor ol'Tibs.
- The skaalds shall sing songs of him.
- I think he'd like that.
He died a true hero.
- We will have vengeance, <Character name>.
- Count on it.
I'll shout Tybalt's name when I bring down that dragon.
- From Lion's Arch to the Black Citadel, across the Caledon and through the world!
- So it will be.
Tybalt deserves to be remembered.
- Maybe we'll talk later.
- (Otherwise) Are you sure you're up for such dangerous duty after Claw Island?
- Nothing could keep me from it.
- Cai: (As sylvari) I heard about the tragedy at Claw Island. I'm so sorry.
- Through you, his memory will become part of the Dream.
- Thank you.
Tybalt was a partner and a friend. I will always remember him.
- We will burn Orr from the sea!
- Count on it.
I make the dragon pay for Tybalt's death.
- I will honor his name as well.
- Tybalt will be remembered.
I'm going to work twice as hard for the Order, in his memory.
- Thank you. Maybe we'll talk latter.
- (Otherwise) I'm glad to see you here. It was wise of the Preceptors to include your talents on this mission.
- We'll protect the city from this threat.
- Agent Batanga: (As asura) When they said you were at Claw Island, I feared the worst. Poor Tybalt. Poor, brave Tybalt.
- I hope when I die, I go with as much courage.
- As do I, when my time comes.
He was a good agent and a loyal friend. He died a hero.
- We will all seek vengeance for Claw Island. You'll help us make that happen.
- Count on it.
The dragon of Orr will die. I swear it.
- We'll tell others of his sacrifice.
- I think he'd like that.
The Order's lost one of our best. I'll make sure he's remembered.
- Maybe we'll talk later.
- (Otherwise) I heard you were on Claw Island when...it happened. My condolences.
- We'll have our revenge.
- Valenze: Tybalt used to work for me analyzing charr politics and customs. I was happy he'd achieved his dream to be an agent! But now...
- He died on his own terms.
- Riel Darkwater: People are dying everywhere. The Commodore's called out the Lionguard to evacuate. We need you, <Character name>.
- Evacuate? To where?
- Primarily toward Divinity's Reach and Hoelbrak.
- I have another question.
- I'll do my best.
- If the citizens are leaving, who are we protecting?
- Some people refuse to leave, but we have to get them out of here.
- I have another question.
- I'll keep an eye out for stragglers.
- Who's the Commodore?
- Commodore Lawson Marriner is the leader of the Ship's Council, and master of Lion's Arch. I serve as his attaché.
- Does he know you're in the Order of the Whispers?
- Absolutely not...which puts me in the perfect place to spy and manipulate.
- I have another question.
- I'm glad to hear the Order has agents so high up in Lion's Arch.
- Halvora Snapdagger: You're a hard to kill, <Character name>. We'll be needing that toughness soon enough.
- I'll do my best, Preceptor.
- Trahearne: We must attend to other matters. Speak to Doern.
- I will.
- Demmi Beetlestone: Blessed Lyssa. So many dead! We have to keep the city under control.
- Just keep your cool and do as the Preceptors command.
Cinematic with the Preceptors:
- Doern Velazquez: Lightbringer—I've heard rumors that Tybalt Leftpaw is dead. Can you confirm?
- <Character name>: You'd have been proud of his bravery, Preceptor. If he hadn't stood the line, we wouldn't have escaped.
- Riel Darkwater: Tybalt didn't think he had any courage. But he proved himself wrong in the end.
- Trahearne: Tybalt's courage saved our lives, and your leadership brought us to safety. I'm in your debt, Lightbringer. If I can be of service, say the word.
- Doern Velazquez: I'll never forget Tybalt, but now duty calls. The Lionguard is evacuating the populace, the Durmand Priory safeguards the harbor, and the Vigil musters at Fort Marriner.
- Halvora Snapdagger: Very well. We need more information. Each Lightbringer will patrol a section of the city for Zhaitan's scouts.
- <Character name>: I'll take Canal Ward. Undead will be coming out of the sea. If they're sending scouts, I'll find them there.
- Halvora Snapdagger: Good. We need a complete sweep, Lightbringers. Watch for anything strange, but stay alert for danger.
After cinematic:
- Demmi Beetlestone: Be careful out there, okay? May Lyssa watch over you.
- Trahearne: Thank you. We will be back soon.
- Trahearne: My necromantic servants have never been alive; thus, they are immune to the ravages of Orr.
Talking to Trahearne while on patrol:
- Trahearne: I hope you excuse my tagging along. Tybalt wouldn't want you alone in this.
- Thank you.
On patrol at Mystic Plaza:
- Pirate: Our ship left without us! We're stranded!
- Pirate: That might be mercy, if Claw Island's gone. They're probably all dead at sea.
- Pirate: Fair point. Let's rough some people up, get their money, and then split town ourselves.
- Pirate: Orrians! The undead are here! Run!
- After clearing this section:
- Trahearne: The area seems clear, Lightbringer. Let's move on.
On patrol at the Canal Ward bridge:
- Citizen: Blasted undead! Tear them limb from limb!
- Lionguard Amelie: By all that's holy—help!
- After clearing this section:
- Trahearne: Excellent. Another area cleared of danger. On we go?
- Lionguard Daniel: Well done! You were just in time.
- Lionguard Amelie: It's you! My brother told me about you. He was a guard at Claw Island. Thank you for everything!
On partrol at the Canal Ward merchants:
- Citizen: Gods save us! There are undeads in the canals!
- Trahearne: The Risen must have traveled through the canals and taken them by surprise.
- Citizen: No! By the Alchemy, don't let them sink my boat!
On patrol at the tailor:
- Shalo: Please, help us. We got separated from our parents!
- Shalo: It's horrible out here! The rotting people are everywhere!
- Amber: Don't let them eat us. Look out, here they come again!
- Trahearne: Zhaitan's servants will be approaching by water. Be cautious here.
- After clearing this section:
- Trahearne: Nearly finished. One more area to check.
- Braxt: Now the rotting things are gone, I can protect us. I know where the Lionguard is!
- Amber: I can't trust you, you're a charr! Momma said—
- Shalo: Trust him! Trust him! He's got muscles! Thank you, stranger. We can make it from here!
On patrol at the way to the bank:
- Citizen: OooOOoOoo! Undead, noooo!
On partrol at the the bank:
- Trahearne: Thieves! Taking advantage of the city's chaos. We must stop them.
- Robber: Lionguard! Get ready for a fight!
- Robber: Hang on—these guys aren't Lionguard. They're just meddlers.
- Robber: Well then, let's meddle them. This money's ours!
- Robber: No. It can't end this way!
- After clearing this section:
- Trahearne: The canals are secure. We should return to the preceptors.
Cinematic when returning to the Preceptors:
- <Character name>: There were creatures in the city, but Trahearne and I destroyed them before they did much damage.
- Doern Velazquez: Well done, Lightbringer. The other operatives are still finishing up, but I suspect they'll find the same.
- <Character name>: Preceptor, it's time to face reality. The Order of Whispers can't be expected to hold back Zhaitan alone. We need to exploit our connections.
- Trahearne: I agree. Preceptor Doern, I know you have leverage on many talented individuals. I suggest you put it to use.
- Demmi Beetlestone: Benn Tenstrikes refuses to divulge my whereabouts to my father, so the Ministry has tossed him into prison for his trouble. He'd help us, if he still lives.
- Agent Batanga: I have an alternative, Preceptor. We are currently sheltering an asuran scientist named Gorr. His inventions would be an advantage.
- Doern Velazquez: Both are sound plans. Lightbringer, I want you to recruit one of them. Your choice.
- Trahearne: Whichever you decide, I'm going with you. You could use the help—and I owe it to Tybalt.
After cinematic:
- Riel Darkwater: Good luck, Lightbringer. We're all counting on you.
Talking to allies before choosing a plan:
- Doern Velazquez: You have two choices. Make one and carry it through. The Order needs you, <Character name>.
- Never fear.
- Demmi Beetlestone: Tybalt would be proud of you. I think...I...oh, I miss him so much!
- We need to call in Benn Tenstrikes. Tell me how to reach him.
- I can give you a map of the town where Benn's being held, and some passwords the soldiers use. Go there, and break him out!
- Anything else I should know?
- One last thing: don't use the Beetletun gates. Instead, find an opening in the irrigation pipes and follow them to the west side.
- I appreciate your help.
- Benn Tenstrikes is in trouble? What happened?
- Benn is an Order agent who helped me escape. My father, the Legate Minister, found out that Benn was involved, and locked him up.
- I want to help Benn. How can I find him?
- Let me talk to Batanga.
- The Legate Minister had a serious grudge against Benn.
- My father doesn't like to be outsmarted. Benn tricked him.
- I want to help Benn. Tell me what I need to do?
- Tell me about Benn's situation. (Same as "Benn Tenstrikes is in trouble? What happened?")
- I'll get back to you.
- I need to think about this. Give me a moment.
- Agent Batanga: Tenstrikes is capable, but a weapon has more practical and quantifiable use. Gorr is an exemplary scientist. He won't let us down.
- Tell me about the weapon Gorr invented.
- It operates on the theory that the dragons consume magic as they consume flesh and even stone. This weapon hits them in their gullet.
- I want to obtain this weapon for the Order.
- An excellent choice. You'll find Gorr at his lab in Rata Sum.
- I'm on my way.
- I want to see what Demmi's plan entails. One moment.
- I want to obtain this weapon for the Order. (Same as above)
- I want to see what Demmi's plan entails. One moment.
- Trahearne: Make your decision and then we'll talk.
- Understood.
Upon choosing to free Benn Tenstrikes:
- Demmi Beetlestone: I'm so glad you want to help Benn. I miss him. He'll be so happy to see us!
- Doern Velazquez: Return soon, Lightbringer. We can keep things safe here...for now.
- Trahearne: You can't do this alone. I'll stand with you.
Upon choosing Gorr's weapon:
- Agent Batanga: Gorr is an incomprehensible assemblage of wow wrapped in a three-foot package. You'll see.
- Doern Velazquez: Return soon, Lightbringer. We can keep the city safe here...for now.
- Trahearne: You can't do this alone. I'll stand with you.
Talking to Trahearne after choosing a plan:
- Trahearne: Thank you for taking the time to talk with me, <Character name>. I am grateful for it.
- I should thank you for your help on Claw Island.
- I wish I could have done more. It was a travesty. Let me come with you and lend my aid.
- We'll avenge them—and save the city.
- Let me think about it.
- Give me a moment to think about it.
