Walkthrough[edit]
You must defend the ambassador tent at Summit Peak from a Renegade Charr assault.
First you must set up the defenses. There will be four people with green stars floating over their heads, talk to them. Assign each's squad to defend one of the three approaches to the tent, east, south, or west.
Once the defenses are set up, the Renegade Charr will start their assault. A message will appear saying which direction they are coming from, and corresponding big green arrow will appear on the map. There are three waves of assault, one from each direction.
Each assault wave has two or three sub-waves. The Renegade Charr attack in big groups, so some sort of area of effect attacks would be very useful. Once you finish fighting off the assault at one approach, be ready to move to the next.
Ajax and his bodyguards arrive with the last wave. He is a big ugly charr who can cause fear. Once you have beaten him, Forgal will talk to you and field-promote you from Recruit to Crusader.
Next, travel to Vigil Keep. After a cinematic with Forgal and General Almorra Soulkeeper, you will choose a race to assist for the next mission, beginning the "racial sympathy" quest chain.

Dialogue[edit]
At Summit Peak[edit]
Approaching Forgal:
- Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: Front and center, Recruit. Stop sleeping on the job.
Talking to Forgal:
- Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: We can defend Summit Peak, but it'll take a little work. Are you ready for a fight?
- Absolutely.
Cinematic with Sergeant Jeyne:
- Sergeant Eilye Jeyne: Ajax and his renegades have surrounded the base of Summit Peak. They brought artillery and ground support.
- Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: Noted. Is our ambush ready?
- Sergeant Eilye Jeyne: We're doing what we can, but Ajax has twice the troops we expected.
- <Character name>: Then we'll just have to fight twice as hard.
- Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: Well said. If it's too much for you Vanguard ninnies, me and the recruit can take on the whole posse of Renegades by ourselves.
- Sergeant Eilye Jeyne: You're a mean old grunt, Forgal. Fine. You two hold the line, and we'll act as a backup. Good luck.
Talking to the NPCs to prepare the defenses:
- Minister Duran: I'm not much of a fighter, but I do know a trick or two that might help.
- You have my attention. What kinds of tricks do you know?
- I can place a ward on the area that will detonate when the Renegades approach.
- Could you set up one of your wards for us?
- Absolutely. Where would you like me to place it?
- I want them along the east approach.
- I want them along the south approach.
- I want them along the west approach.
- Let me think about that and get back to you, Minister.
- That's a generous offer, Minister. I may ask you to do just that.
- Thank you, Minister. I'll keep that in mind.
- Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: I know you'd prefer to do this alone, but I have a squad of Vigil soldiers ready to help.
- How can they help?
- They're mostly heavy gunners, able to create a formidable firing line.
- Can they defend one approach?
- Absolutely. Where would you like the soldiers to position themselves?
- I want them along the east approach.
- I want them along the south approach.
- I want them along the west approach.
- Let me consider my options for a moment.
- That gives me something to think about. Thank you, sir.
- Understood. I'll let you know what I need, Warmaster.
- Ambassador Steelcrusher: I've called upon the Iron Legion to help us.
- How do you see them helping us, sir?
- Say the word, and one of our engineers will set up a cannon to defend us.
- Sounds great. Consider the word given.
- Where would you like to have the cannon placed?
- I want them along the east approach.
- I want them along the south approach.
- I want them along the west approach.
- I'll consider my plan and get back to you.
- That's a generous offer, sir. I'll keep it in mind.
- Glad to know I have options, Minister. Thank you.
- Sergeant Eilye Jeyne: The Ebonhawke Vanguard isn't as numerous as the Vigil, but we'll do our part.
- How can you help?
- Our limited numbers have made us very good at ambushing our enemies.
- Sounds good. Can you prepare an ambush now?
- Yes. Just tell me where you want us to set up.
- I want them along the east approach.
- I want them along the south approach.
- I want them along the west approach.
- Let me think about that and get back to you.
- Great, that gives me some options. Let me get back to you.
- Glad to hear it. Stand ready.
When the groups are taking position:
- Sergeant Eilye Jeyne: We need to hold this position.
- Minister Duran: To battle!
- Iron Legion Engineer: Let's get started.
- Ambassador Steelcrusher: Show no mercy!
- Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: Run. Now!
Cinematic with Forgal:
- Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: The Renegades are storming Summit Peak. The Ebon Vanguard needs our help, and they need it now.
- <Character name>: Looks like we'll have to accelerate our schedule.
- Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: Good attitude. Move out, Recruit. I'll be right beside you.
During the fight:
- Sergeant Eilye Jeyne: Watch it! Renegades on the east ramp!
- Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: More Renegades are coming from the south!
- Sergeant Eilye Jeyne: More Renegades, coming up the northwest path!
- Sergeant Eilye Jeyne: Shortsighted idiots! You couldn't even live in Ebonhawke if you did take it—it's got no scratching-posts!
Talking to NPCs during the mission:
- Pugio Swifttooth: I'll see to the ambassador's defense. You keep the filthy renegades out of the tent.
- No problem.
- Ambassador Steelcrusher: Why are you here with us? Are we losing?
- No worries, sir.
- Ember Doomforge: My mother's told me all about you and Forgal.
- All good, I hope.
- Minister Duran: I believe you're needed on the front lines.
- You're right. I should go.
- Sergeant Eilye Jeyne: We have to protect the diplomats. Make sure none of those renegades get away!
- Can do, Sergeant!
When Ajax Anvilburn arrive:
- Ajax Anvilburn: Burn it—attack! Kill them all!
- Ajax Anvilburn: My mother's a soft, weak coward. War is the only answer. Eradicate the humans.
During the fight with Ajax Anvilburn:
- Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: Anvilburn. Your momma wanted me to give you something—right in the face.
- Ajax Anvilburn: Your blows are weak, like your spirit!
- Ajax Anvilburn: Tell Almorra she's a coward who cannot face her own blood in a battle.
- Ajax Anvilburn: Whipped dogs. I shall never bend my knee!
Cinematic after killing Ajax:
- Sergeant Eilye Jeyne: We did it! I can't believe it. The Renegades are beaten!
- Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: Don't act so surprised, Sergeant. It's downright insulting.
- <Character name>: I don't understand those Renegades. It's hard to believe anyone in Tyria would work against peace. With the dragons out there, we can't afford to be divided.
- Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: Some people can't see past their noses. It's good thing we can. This treaty will help even the odds against Zhaitan. Count on it.
- Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: You did well, Recruit. You learn quickly, you adapt, and you know when to put hammer to steel.
- Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: I wasn't sure I'd like you when we started this operation. Almorra kinda twisted my arm to take you on. Said you were special.
- Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: But damned if you didn't live up to every word she said. You aren't like the rest of these young'uns hanging around the order.
- Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: I'm field-promoting you to crusader... but don't let it go to your head.
- <Character name>: I won't, old man. And thank you. It's an honor to work with you, too.
- Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: Old man, huh? Don't push your luck.
After the cinematic:
- Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: Damn fine fighting, recruit! Reminds me of my youth!
- Warmaster Forgal Kernsson cheers for <Character name>.
Talking to NPCs after the cinematic:
- Sergeant Eilye Jeyne: I can't believe those renegades stormed Summit Peak. Did they really think they'd be successful?
- You were pretty amazing out there, I have to admit.
- Nice to be appreciated.
They would have been, if not for me!
- They didn't realize how dedicated we were—or how deadly.
- Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: You did very well, <Character name>. I think you're finally becoming worthy of the order.
- Don't get cheeky with me, Recruit. What I mean is...good work.
- Thank you, Warmaster. I appreciate that.
Why, Forgal. Keep that up and people might think we're friends.
- Thank you, sir.
- Ambassador Steelcrusher: What can I do for you, <Character name>? We're all in your debt.
- Thank you, sir. Tell me, how did you come to be an ambassador?
- Imperator Smodur the Unflinching trusts me. We know each other well, and when I volunteeered[sic], he accepted.
- How do you know the imperator?
- We served together on a tour of duty years ago out on the Granite Front. He's a good charr, a keen leader.
- That's very interesting. May I ask you something else?
- Thank you for explaining that, sir.
- What happens now? Do you think the treaty will be signed?
- We still have many obstacles ahead of us, but yes. Both sides seem committed to the cause. I have high hopes for Tyria's future.
- I'm glad to hear that. May I ask you something else?
- I like the sound of that, sir.
- Does this mean all the charr renegades are beaten?
- Sadly, no. Only this band. Ajax was a good leader, and without him, their cause will stumble. But they won't give up.
- We'll stay ready, then. May I ask you something else?
- Thank you for explaining that, sir.
- I wish you good luck, Ambassador Steelcrusher.
- Minister Duran: Something I can do for you, <Character name>? You've proven a credit to your order.
- Minister, may I ask how you got involved with the treaty?
- Her Majesty, Queen Jennah, appointed me to the task. I'm honored by her confidence in me.
- Why did she choose you, if you don't mind me asking?
- I'm originally from a little village called Wiley's Cove. We're close to Lion's Arch, so I had experience dealing with all races.
- Sounds wise. May I ask you another question?
- Very interesting. Thank you for the information.
- So what do you think, Minister? Does the treaty still have a chance?
- I'm sure of it. Maybe even a better one, given our success here. Ajax's plan completely backfired.
- Backfired? Why do you say that?
- We defeated Anvilburn's renegades. This shows that our races are capable of working together when we have need.
- Good point. May I ask you another question, Minister?
- I like the way you think, sir.
- I'm just glad our plan worked. Congratulations, Minister Duran.
- Pugio Swifttooth: I admit, I'm impressed.
- Thanks.
At Vigil Keep[edit]

Cinematic with Almorra:
- General Almorra Soulkeeper: Well done, Recruit. You saved the treaty between Kryta and the Iron Legion.
- <Character name>: I hope they manage to create a lasting peace, General. We can't defeat the dragons unless both nations work together.
- <Character name>: General? May I ask a question? Ajax Anvilburn...he was your son, is that correct?
- Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: Stand down, Crusader, that's none of your—
- General Almorra Soulkeeper: No, Warmaster. I'll answer the question. After all the two of you went through, the crusader deserves that much.
- General Almorra Soulkeeper: Ajax was my son. As is our custom, I didn't raise him. I left him at the fahrar, and he found me again after my warband was slaughtered by a dragon.
- General Almorra Soulkeeper: I tried to explain to him why I founded the Vigil, but he said I was wasting my time. He never really understood the threat the dragons pose.
- General Almorra Soulkeeper: Like many in the legions, Ajax never looked beyond the charr. I will grieve for my son, but I will not look back.
- <Character name>: I'm sorry for your loss, General, but Tyria's safer because of your sacrifices.
- General Almorra Soulkeeper: Thank you. I agree.
- Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: General Soulkeeper, I'd like to request that the crusader be permanently assigned as my partner.
- General Almorra Soulkeeper: That's a surprise, Forgal. You going soft on me?
- Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: I don't have time to break in anyone else... All right, I admit it. We work well together.
- General Almorra Soulkeeper: Consider yourself so assigned. Crusader, I've briefed Forgal on some options for your next mission. Speak with him, and then decide.
Talking to the NPCs after the cinematic:
- General Almorra Soulkeeper: Something I can do for you, <Character name>? You're off to a fine start in our ranks.
- May I ask you a question about your son, Ajax Anvilburn?
- My son Ajax was a firebrand. Would that he had better morals to guide his anger.
- Forgal said you didn't know Ajax very well. Is that common among charr?
- Young charr aren't raised by their parents. They're raised in a community fosterage known as 'fahrar.' I never really knew my son.
- May I ask you another question about your son?
- May I ask you a general question?
- I see. Thank you.
- Why didn't you tell us Ajax was your son?
- I didn't want your misplaced sentimentality to threaten the Vigil's operation. We must succeed...for Tyria.
- May I ask you another question about your son?
- May I ask you a general question?
- I understand. Thank you, ma'am.
- Why did Ajax hate the treaty so much?
- Many charr see compromise as weakness, and are determined to ruin any chance we have at peace. My son was raised very traditionally.
- May I ask you another question about your son?
- May I ask you a general question?
- I see. Thank you.
- Do you have any other 'wayward children' we should know about, ma'am?
- Don't get cute with me, Crusader. Yes, I have a daughter...but that's another story.
- May I ask you another question about your son?
- May I ask you a general question?
- Yes, ma'am. Thank you, General.
- Nevermind, ma'am. Thank you for your time.
- What will happen to the treaty between the charr and the humans?
- The Legions and Kryta will have to work things out. At least now, they have a better chance.
- Good to know. May I ask another question?
- Thank you for the information, General.
- Thank you, General. I'll continue to do my best.
- Laranthir of the Wild: What can I do for you, <Character name>? You're doing good work here, you know.
- Excuse me, but who are you?
- My name is Laranthir, one of the secondborn of the sylvari. I am Almorra's second-in-command.
- Ah, I see. Tell me, what is a "secondborn?"
- We were the second group of sylvari awakened from the Mother Tree.
- May I ask you another question?
- Very interesting. Thank you.
- May I ask you another question?
- Very interesting. Thank you.
- What rank do you hold in the Vigil?
- I am a Grand Warmaster, Almorra's second-in-command. Should she fall, I will lead the order...but I pray to the Tree I am never needed in that role.
- Ah, I see. May I ask you something else?
- Thank you for the information.
- Thanks for the encouragement.
Talking to Forgal to choose a race to help:
- Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: Which of these tribal cultures would you like to aid, Crusader?
- (If charr, human, or sylvari)
- I've always been curious about the skritt.
- The skritt are a race of rodent scavengers. Good-hearted but light-fingered, if you know what I mean.
- I choose to help the skritt.
- I'll need to think about this a little longer. What were my choices again?
- (If asura, human, or sylvari)
- I've always wanted to swim with the quaggan.
- The quaggans are an amphibious race. It's said they once lived in the deep ocean... but something drove them toward land.
- I choose to help the quaggan.
- I'll need to think about this a little longer. What were my choices again?
- (If asura, human, norn, or sylvari)
- The hylek are an enigma. Do we know much about them?
- (If asura, charr, or norn)
- I could learn a lot studying the psychology of the grawl.
- The grawl are extremely primitive, and exceptionally ferocious. You're very brave to consider dealing with them!
- I choose to help the grawl.
- I'll need to think about this a little longer. What were my choices again?
- (If charr or norn)
- It's said the ogres are an ancient race. I want to know more.
- The ogres are one of the most ancient races, and yet we know so little about them—other than their devotion to their pets.
- I choose to help the ogres.
- I'll need to think about this a little longer. What were my choices again?
Upon choosing a race:
- Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: The skritt? Very well. I'll meet you at the Feral Dens.
- Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: The quaggans? Very well. I'll meet you at Lake Wyrmblood.
- Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: The hylek? Very well. I'll meet you at Lorantl Grounds.
- Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: The grawl? Very well. I'll meet you at Kenning Testing Ground.
- Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: The ogres? Very well. I'll meet you at Agrak Kraal.
Talking to Forgal after choosing:
- Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: Well done. Kryta and the Iron Legion may yet stand together. We've struck a blow for unity.
- I hope it inspires others to do the same.
