Gerun had a difficult youth, for being more proficient at healing than at fighting. He was teased mercilessly by his more combative peers, and an additional interest in the stars earned him the derogatory nickname "Starcrawler." He finally found an ally, however, in Eir Stegalkin.
Whether the aging heroine saw genuine potential in him, or merely took pity, he never knew. She trained him with a bow, but his abilities in direct combat never grew to match his talent for keeping allies and pets alive, and he relied heavily on pets to take down attackers. Nevertheless, he managed to defeat one of the bullies who had tormented him, and thus gained freedom from the taunts of the rest.

When he learned that his mentor had fallen in the battle against Mordremoth, he became determined to continue her legend in his own way, by making a name for himself as her student. He took up her bow, but he also obtained a staff for himself, one with which he could channel his healing abilities and put them to greater use. Eventually, he learned to become a celestial avatar, using the power of his beloved stars to further enhance his abilities.
His peers believe that they can best any challenge through power alone, and that healers are useless. Eventually, they will learn just how wrong they are, as Eir did. And he will be there to spare them from matching her fate.
