Walkthrough[edit]
Talk to the indicated characters and then go to the North Nolan Hatchery and enter the event at the green star indicator. Rox opens the gate and you will have to kill several mobs. Move down the stairs to the sonic emitters. Several mobs patrol around them along with some weirdly undulating devourer hatchlings. Two flame portals will open once you destroy the first sonic emitter at the entrance to the area. Two veteran mobs will port in after each emitter is destroyed, so destroy them one at a time and kill the veteran mobs before destroying the next emitter. After the last emitter is destroyed, the previous flame portals disappear and two new ones appear at each end of the hatchery grounds. The devourers now join the fight on your side. They don't do a lot of damage and it's not worth reviving them, when they die. The first three waves of 2-3 mobs will appear, alternating between the two flame portals. From then on, mobs will spawn from both portals simultaneously. The last spawn includes a Flame Legion mob (Ignitor?) that does significant fire damage. The next task is to go to the upper hatchery grounds. Leave the current area and head out, then turn right up the path. Do not go back up the stairs. Once you get far enough up, Rox will tell you something smells. Two flame portals appear behind you and two at the back of the area. Another three waves of mobs spawn. The most damage is done by the Molten Ignitor. After they're down, the four flame portals combine into one large portal, spawning Marat and two minor mobs. Marat's abilities are Projectile's Bounce and Lingering AoE. Kill the minor mobs first, while avoiding the AoE from Marat. He telegraphs pretty clearly where the damage will go.

Refugee camp[edit]
- Bellus Jawshot: Don't suppose you've got any news from the north? My hackles won't lie down. Tribune Brimstone sent scouts up to find out what's going on. I hope we hear back soon.
- Why are there so many refugees?
- It has to be some kind of major offensive. They're systematically taking out all our ranches in the northwest corner of the plateau. I hate Flame Legion.
- I see.
- I see.
The Command Core[edit]
Cinematic upon entering:
- Rytlock Brimstone: ...Talk about that later. I've got a mission for you. You're aware of the refugee situation.
- Rox: Yes, Tribune. I heard the Flame Legion have been mobilizing in northern Diessa Plateau.
- Rytlock Brimstone: You heard right. They're mucking with our assets up there, and it's singeing my fur.
- Rytlock Brimstone: I need you to secure that hatchery we discussed. You think you can handle that?
- Rox: Yes, Tribune. I'll leave right away.
- Rytlock Brimstone: Good. Take any support you can find. You're likely to need it.
- Rox: Yes, Tribune!
Talking to NPCs:
- Rox: The Molten Alliance is indefensible. Attacking a hatchery of baby devourers? Disgraceful and cowardly.
- I heard you speaking with Brimstone. Need support?
- I could use an extra sword, sure. The hatchery is north of the town of Nolan, in Diessa Plateau. I'll meet you there. Bring any friends who want to come too. My name's Rox. What's yours?
- <Character name>. How do I get there?
- Head out the northern gate of the Black Citadel into Diessa Plateau. That's Nolan. Just go northwest of the town, you'll find the hatchery. You can't miss it.
- Okay. I'll see you there.
- That's terrible.
- Rox: I have to prepare. I'll meet you at the hatchery, okay?
- Where's the hatchery again?
- Head out the northern gate of the Black Citadel into Diessa Plateau. That's Nolan. The hatchery is just northwest of the town—you can't miss it... Especially since it might be under siege.
- Why is this hatchery such an important asset?
- It's one of the largest Blood Legion hatcheries and training facilities. If it were compromised...the loss would be significant. Besides, all those baby devourers don't stand a chance.
- Where's the hatchery again? (Same as above)
- So, why didn't Rytlock send others with you?
- Blood Legion personnel are stretched thin; we're in the middle of a refugee crisis. Besides, Tribune Brimstone wants to see if I'm resourceful. I'm trying out for his warband, you know.
- You're trying out for his warband?
- Yeah. I lost my warband in a mining explosion. I'm gladium. Does that bother you?
- What's a giadium?
- It's somebody who survived when the rest of her warband didn't. A leftover, you might say. We end up alone in the world, unless we can convince another warband to take us in. I'd do anything to get into the Stone warband.
- Okay. Meet you at the hatchery.
- Not yet. I'll meet you at the hatchery.
- I see.
- Got it.
- So, why didn't Rytlock send others with you? (Same as above)
- Okay.
- Why is this hatchery such an important asset? (Same as above)
- Sure.
- Rytlock Brimstone: Good to see you, Commander. Unfortunately, this is a "private defense quorum". They'll let you mingle, but Smodur's not taking tips on crisis handling.
- Oh yeah? Well, on behalf of the Pact, I'm here to lend a hand.
- I've got some fresh metal in the fire for taking REAL action. Meet me in my office once you've had your fill of the tribunal. I've wasted enough time listening to Smodur bicker.
- See you there.
- Any new info about the situation?
- Go ahead and chat up the tribunal for th elatest intel. The short version: the Flame legion is up to something. They're working with the drfedge, and we're going to hammer them back down.
- How can I help? (Same as "Oh yeah? Well, on behalf of the Pact, I'm here to lend a hand.")
- I'll ask around.
- No time now. Maybe later.
Talking to Quorum Guard:
- Quorum Guard: Defense quorum in progress. No visitors! No exceptions.
- Not even for Pact Commander <Character name>?
- Sorry, Commander. I do have standing orders to let you through. Go on in.
- That's more like it.
- So, what's going on in there?
- They're planning an assault on the Flame Legion-and the dredge too, since they seem to have formed an alliance. The Imperator's in there, along with any tribune who could get here in time.
- Sounds serious.
- This is about as serious as it gets around here. War is no laughing matter. Now, move along before I call for someone to walk you out.
- I'm going.
- I see that.
- All right.
- To the instance owner:
- Quorum Guard: You're cleared to pass, Commander.
- Otherwise:
- Quorum Guard: You're with the commander. You're cleared to pass.
- Good.
Talking to the quorum:
- Bhuer Goreblade: Blast those Flame Legion! Never would've expected them to ally with dredge... What are we going to do about it, tribunes? I say we crush them. End it now, before the coals get any hotter.
- Well said.
- Fierhan Sparwind: I say we flank them...as soon as we can find them, that is. What are those Vigil saying again? Something about holes? Mia, you talked to the Vigil, right?
- Interesting.
- Makk the Silent: Are you insane? We can't leave the city unprotected. The smart move is to send small platoons to deflect their attacks. Torga, what do you think?
- Hm.
- Mia Kindleshot: Almorra thinks they're working out of the mines. She's sending us reinforcements, too.
I agree with Makk, we should focus on the Citadel. We can't be unprotected. For all we know, we're the target. - Good to know.
- Smodur the Unflinching: What's a commander of the Pact doing here? I thought you had dragons to fight.
- A little bird told me there was a battle brewing.
- That little bird would be correct. It's true, we're planning a war. An extra sword would be welcomed.
- Thank you, Imperator.
- The dragons can wait, for now.
- Torga Desertgrave: The idea of sending in small platoons makes me nervous... We've already lost so many. Especially if they're planning a larger assault, we need to keep our troops together. I'd bet my tail on it.
- Me too.
Talking to the aides:
- Erracus the Wise: Huh, a representative from the Pact? Be careful, the tribunes are...passionate.
- I'll keep my head down, ears up.
- Laria Sharpeye: Bhuer and Smodur are at odds while the rest of them are struggling to keep up. I'm not sure if you'll be able to get a word in, but you might be able to pick up a thing or two from their conversation.
- I'll mingle, see what I can overhear.
Blood Tribune Quarters[edit]
Cinematic:
- Braham: You have to send troops. My friends, my home. We're losing everything. People are dying.
- Rytlock Brimstone: Who do you think you are, barging into my office like this?
- Braham: My people are hunters. They don't know how to fight an army!
- Rytlock Brimstone: True. But that doesn't make me your keeper. You're in the wrong place. Go talk to Knut Whitebear. I'm up to my eyeballs in refugees.
- Braham: I'm Eir's son. I heard... I thought you would help.
- Rytlock Brimstone: Eir has no son. Get out of my office. Now!
After cinematic:
- Rytlock Brimstone: Those norn need to take care of their own messes.
Talking to Rytlock:
- (If charr)
- Rytlock Brimstone: That young norn's ability to make it all the way to my office without being stopped is a sign of just how distracted we are. I've got refugees in every corner of the Citadel, I have nothing to spare.
- How can I help?
- Right now, I need someone to go up to the devourer hatchery north of Nolan. It's an important asset for the Legions. I sent Rox, my latest recruit. Do me a favor while you're there...
- What's the favor?
- Keep an eye on her. She's a gladium on probation, and she's trying out for a spot in my warband. I'd be interested to hear what you think of her.
- So, why did you reject that norn's request? (Same as below)
- Sure.
- So, why did you reject that norn's request? (Same as below)
- You're busy. I'll come back later.
- (Otherwise)
- Rytlock Brimstone: Commander. Now that we're out of that stuffy Command Core, let's talk about the Diessa crisis.
- (If Vigil)
- General Soulkeeper sent me to help.
- (Otherwise)
- <Destiny's Edge mentor> sent me to help.
- Good, because I could use all the help I can get. We're spread thin; I've got cooks out scouting the mountains for Flame Legion. How dirty do you want to get your hands, Commander?
- Whatever you need. Tell me.
- Right now, I need support at the devourer hatchery north of Nolan. It's an important asset for the Legions. I already sent one of our gladia to take a look, Rox. Watch for her. She knows what to do.
- Where's Nolan?
- When you leave the Command Core, head north toward the Diessa gate. You'll pass between some giant statues, and the gate is at the end. It drops you in Nolan; the hatchery is just to the north.
- Gotcha. So, why didn't you help that norn?
- Two reasons. First, we've got our hands full. I can't spare a single soldier for the norn when my own are dying. This "Molten Alliance" is burning our assets. And second, he lied to me.
- What did he lie about?
- He said he's Eir Stegalkin's son. I've known her for years, and she'd have mentioned if she had any kids. He underestimated my relationship with her.
- (If charr)
- No wonder you're so distracted.
- (Otherwise)
- Tell me what you need, Rytlock.
- I don't blame you for being cautious.
- Thanks. I'm off.
- I see. Thanks.
- All right. Count on me.
- Hold that thought.
- So, why did you reject that norn's request? (Same as "Gotcha. So, why didn't you help that norn?")
- I doubt it. May your day improve.
Talking to Braham:
- Braham: I'm so mad, I could... Argh, I can't show my anger. Not here. I need to head back to Hoelbrak, see if I can convince Whitebear to send reinforcements to Cragstead. Don't suppose you'd like to come?
- I might. Why didn't Brimstone help you?
- You'll have to talk to him to find out. I'm not asking him to go himself, just to send some troops. So be it. I'll speak with Knut Whitebear in Hoelbrak. He's a wise man. He'll listen to reason.
- Why didn't you go to Hoelbrak first?
- Let's just say I have ghosts from my past there that I try to avoid. My mother, to be specific. It never ends well whenever she and I are in the same room. I barely know her anyway.
- I have my own ghosts. I'm <Character name>, by the way. Braham, right?
- Braham Eirsson. You've probably heard of my mother. She's a "famous hero", a member of Destiny's Edge. Eir Stegalkin. I'm not bragging, mind you. I take after my father.
- Nice to meet you, Braham. I'll see you in Hoelbrak.
- I see. Well, good luck.
- Best of luck.
- Good luck, then.
Mail after talking to Braham:
Rytlock Hatchery Directions Commander, here's the route to the North Nolan Hatchery, where you can meet up with Rox, the recruit I mentioned. She's not in trouble, I wanted to make sure you knew how appreciative I'd be if you did... Whatever this "Molten Alliance" is up to, I don't like it. I'd send more soldiers with her, but we're up to our fangs in refugees. Rox is capable, but I'm more confident knowing you've got her back. Exit the city via the northeastern[sic] gate that leads to Diessa Plateau. Pass through Nolan and head into the foothills. The hatchery is there.—Your friend, Rytlock Brimstone
If North Nolan Hatchery falls to the Molten Alliance, it will disrupt the charr's war efforts. Interactive map |
Talking to Braham again:
- Braham: Doesn't seem like I'll be getting any help from these charr. As much as I hate it, going to Hoelbrak is my only choice... Say, you're a commander in the Pact, right? Do you have anywhere to be?
- You said Eir is your mother, right? Can she help?
- My mother? Possibly. Can't say I'm looking forward to that conversation, though.
- Why didn't Brimstone help you?
- Argh, it's not like I asked him to go himself...just for some troops. But I guess the Citadel is already in the middle of a full-on refugee crisis as is. My best bet is talking to Whitebear.
- Maybe I'll meet you there.
- Let's hope so.
- Sure, maybe I'll see you there.
Talking to Laria:
- Laria Sharpeye: Commander <Character name>. Good to see you here. Between you and me, I'd approach Tribune Brimstone with caution. He's not too happy with me. I let that young norn in. An error in judgment on my part, but he said he was Eir's son.
- What did the young norn want?
- He requested reinforcements at Cragstead, his home, but he came at the worst possible time. We're swamped with wounded soldiers, and if the war council is any indication of the state of things...
- What are your duties?
- I'm Tribune Brimstone's aide-de-camp. I've been running my tail off since the refugees started showing up... I've also been gathering materials for the war council. It's been a long day.
- Keep up the good work.
- Understood. You've got your hands full.
- Thanks for the warning.
North Nolan Hatchery[edit]
Approaching Rox:
- Rox: We're close. I scouted around while waiting for you, and it doesn't look good. I'm seeing signs of dredge.
- Rox: We go fast and silent until sneaky don't cut it anymore. Then we go fast and mean.
- Rox: Wait. Something's not right. Be on your guard.
Encountering the ambush:
- Veteran Molten Smoke Shaman: To arms!
Talking to Rox after encountering the ambush:
- Rox: It's a trap! Take them out!
- You got it!
After fighting off the ambush:
- Rox: That should do it. Let's go.
Down the stairs:
- Blood Legion Soldier is killed.
- Veteran Molten Bladestorm: I'll taste your blood.
- Veteran Molten Stalker: Get them! Kill them all!
- Veteran Molten Fire Shaman: You will die in flames.
- Veteran Molten Reverberant: Attack!
After second wave:
- Rox: What's that sound? It's piercing!
- Rox: Those sonic devices are hurting the devourers. We have to do something.
Talking to Rox during the mission:
- Rox: Our first priority is to secure the hatchery.
I can't fail. If I do, I lose my chance to join the Stone warband, and that ain't gonna happen! - Don't worry, we won't fail.
Talking to Sithio Quicklash during the mission while he's downed:
- Sithio Quicklash: Forget about me! Just kill the damn invaders!
- Can do!
Fighting at the hatchery:
- Molten Axe Fiend threatens <Character name>.
- Veteran Molten Stalker threatens <Character name>.
- Veteran Molten Stalker: Stay with me!
- Veteran Molten Shadowblade: Attackers! There!
- Veteran Molten Blademaster: Sounds like trouble!
- Veteran Molten Resonator: To the front!
- Veteran Molten Smoke Shaman: I'll skin someone for this!
- Veteran Molten Disaggregator: I hear death calling your name.
- Veteran Molten Shadowblade: The hunt is on!
- Veteran Molten Igniter: Show no mercy!
After securing the hatchery:
- Rox: You there. I'm here on Tribune Brimstone's orders. Report!
- Sithio Quicklash: We had no warning. They came out of the ground before we could sound the alarm. Dredge and Flame Legion.
- Rox: Your warband?
- Sithio Quickslash: Was stationed here, yeah. Some are dead, but the others barricaded themselves behind the south gate. Here's the key. The invaders were in pursuit. We have to-
- Rox: You're wounded. You stay here and warn away anyone else who comes. We'll go.
Talking to Sithio Quickslash after securing the hatchery:
- Sithio Quickslash: I'm okay. I'll stay here and protect the hatchlings. You go and keep the invaders occupied!
- Got it.
On the way to the training area:
- Rox: Shoo. Go back to your nest!
- Rox: Listen. I can't take care of you right now.
- Rox: There's the gate. Let me handle this.
- Rox: Oh, for rust's sake. Shoo. Git. I don't want another pet!
At the training area:
- Rox: (sniff) Smell that? Something's not right. That's sulfur, and that means Flame Legion.
- Rox: They're near. Stay close.
Talking to Rox at the training area:
- Rox: Everything is burning. The wreckage... They will not relent!
- I've got your back, Rox!
After the first wave:
- Marat: Surrender, female! You're outnumbered and outgunned.
- Rox: I don't think so. I've seen things scarier than you come out of my pet.
After the fight:
- Rox: We're too late.
- Baby Devourer: (chitters)
- Rox: Look, treadmarks. Footprints. They took some of the workers away, alive.
- Rox: I have to secure the hatchery, but then I'm going to track them down.
- Rox: When I find out where they took the prisoners, I'll contact you.
- Rox: C'mon, bud. Let's get you something to eat.
- Baby Devourer: (purrs)
Talking to NPCs after the mission:
- Rox: Would've preferred to take that one back to Tribune Brimstone alive, but at least we're not walking away empty-handed. The Molten Alliance is taking prisoners, and we need to find them.
- What about the hatchery?
- You're good to head out. I'll finish securing the hatchery, and I'll start asking around about where they might have taken the prisoners. There's no way I'm letting them get away with this.
- I have another question.
- Ask away, <Character name>. I'm gonna rest a few minutes before I move out.
- So what happens now? (Same as above)
- That little devourer has grown attached to you.
- I noticed. He won't leave me alone. I might as well look after him for now, since the hatchery's staff is scattered. I wonder where they keep the food around here?
- I have another question.
- Probably down by the hatchery. Talk to you later.
- What do you think happened here?
- I think that survivor in the hatchery might know more about that. I'd talk to him if I were you.
- I have another question.
- Good point. Talk to you later.
- Why do you think the Flame Legion and dredge are working together?
- Flay me if I know! It makes my fur stand on end. I can't see either the Flame Legion or the dredge hooking up on their own. But they sure were more powerful together.
- I have another question.
- Okay. Talk to you later.
- Never mind. Talk to you later.
- Count me in when you find out what's up.
- Sounds good. We'll be in touch.
- Sithio Quicklash: Damn good you came along when you did. They were about to kill me when they heard the commotion you were making up by the front gate.
- Looks like everyone else is dead or taken.
- Oh. My...my warband runs this place. I can't leave. Please, if you can find a way to rescue any of those who were taken, do so! And make them pay for our pain! I can't be the only one left. I just can't.
- What's your job here?
- My warband and I maintain the hatchery. We care for the baby lashtails. I've got to rebuild and resecure it now, figure out what to do.
- I have another question.
- I'm sure you'll do fine.
- I have another question.
- I'll do my best. Hang in there.
- You know anything about the devourer following my friend around?
- Every batch has a slightly odd one. That little albino lashtail is quick, quicker than the rest, smarter too, but shy. Never really took to anyone like the rest did. Seems like he's found somebody he likes now, and I say, "Good for him!"
- I have another question.
- He's certainly determined. Bye.
- What happened with the attack?
- Surprise attack. I was off duty, taking a nap, when I heard yelling. I ran out to see my warband running up toward the training grounds. I headed to the hatchery, and...
- And then what?
- I got knocked tail over horn by one of those damn Flame Legion portals. I tried to fight, but a dredge hit me with a sonic blast, and I went down. I...I can't believe I survived.
- I have another question.
- You're okay now. Rest.
- I have another question.
- Hang in there.
- Do you have any idea why they attacked here?
- The North Nolan hatchery is primo. We hold the record for most clean hatches, and we got a reputation for training 'em right. The Flame Legion knows the damage a well-trained warbeast can inflict. That's reason enough, I guess.
- I have another question.
- Got it.
- Glad I could be here?
Follow-up mails after leaving:
Rox Thank You <Character name>, I wanted to thank you for assisting me at the hatchery. Especially since it was a warband test...I would have failed if it weren't for you. This was the first stage of my trials, which means I owe you. Big time. I'm still shocked that Brimstone is even considering me, but we've got bigger filets[sic] to sear. I've been talking to a few Vigil Representatives. They're closing in on the location of the Molten Alliance headquarters...at least, one of them. There are hundreds of thousands of old mines lining the Shiverpeaks, so it might take a little digging to track down the right one. Regardless, when I find out, you find out—then we'll take the fight to them.—Until then, rest up. |
