Walkthrough[edit]
In this mission you'll need to clear four boats of Risen. Each boat will consist of three waves of five to six normal Risen followed by another wave consisting of a Veteran boss and two normal Risen.
- Boat One: Contains Risen Humans
- Boat Two: Contains Risen Charr
- Boat Three: Contains Risen Gladiators
- Boat Four: Contains Risen Hylek
None of the enemies are particularly noteworthy or do much damage. The most dangerous part is the close quarters combat of fighting on a ship.
The first boat may be a problem if you do not move up the gangplank and onto the first ship quickly, since you will then be reduced to fighting in the very small space on the gangplank or in the row boat (so no room to dodge/evade attacks).
However, this problem can work to your advantage for the second, third and fourth ships: by luring the Risen onto the gangplanks, they are balled into a small space and more susceptible to area of effect attacks.
Since each wave of Risen only begins when all foes from the previous wave have been defeated, it might be wise to revive your allies when only one Risen pirate is left standing. Additionally, your allies resurrect when you have cleared an entire boat including the captain.

Dialogue[edit]
Approaching Jeyne:
- Crusader Eilye Jeyne: You make the call, I'll follow your lead.
- Crusader Eilye Jeyne beckons to <Character name>.
Talking to Fel before the Crusader Jeyne:
- Fel Vaerdenmer: Commander? Crusader Jeyne is waiting to brief you before we get underway.
- Thanks.
Talking to Crusader Jeyne:
- Crusader Eilye Jeyne: Our false lighthouse signal worked perfectly. You should have seen those Dead Ships pile up in the shallows! Anyway, the team's assembled. Ready for the briefing?
- Absolutely.
- Now that the ships are helpless, we board them and eliminate the crews. Then Engineer Sunbower, Elli, and Zott fix them up so we can sail them...without alerting the rest of Zhaitan's fleet.
- Go on.
- We sail along the Orrian coast, surprise the enemy beachhead, and eliminate the Orrian commanders with shore bombardement. Fel and Merri will row you out to the enemy ships.
- Got it.
- Let's talk about this later.
- Let's talk about this later.
- Not yet.
- Crusader Eilye Jeyne salutes <Character name>.
Talking to your allies before talking to Fel:
- Elli: I'm fine...just used to asura gates. With them, you just appear at your destination. Here, you go up, you go down. Then there's side to side...urgh, I think I'm going to output.
- Hang in there.
- Agent Zott: You'll have your appendages occupied, Commander. I'll keep an eye on Elli. She's predisposed to nautical nausea, you know.
- Thanks.
- Merri Sunbower: Hi, Commander. You should talk to my husband Fel when you get the chance.
- Right. Thanks.
- Crusader Jeyne: We'll be ready after you talk to the captain.
- Got it.
Speaking with Fel Vaerdenmer (cinematic):
- Fel Vaerdenmer: Commander on deck! Glad to meet you. I'm Captain Fel Vaerdenmer.
- <Character Name>: Nice to meet you Fel. Are you part of the squad?
- Fel Vaerdenmer: My wife and I sail a clipper out of Lion's Arch. We were brought in by the Pact to handle a special mission—piloting bone ships. Nobody said the dang things already had a crew!
- Sergeant Eilye Jeyne: They might be crewed now, but that's what my squad's here to do—take out the Risen, and deliver the ships. The question is, can you sail them?
- Fel Vaerdenmer: Now, look here, girlie. I can sail a bantam in a full hurricane. I can sail anything! Stick a toothpick on a turtle and I'll sail it to Cantha before dawn!
- Sergeant Eilye Jeyne: I hope you're right. Elli, Zott, are you ready to help commandeer these vessels?
- Agent Zott: Operating at one hundred percent efficiency, Crusader. Ignore the tinge of green around Elli's ears. I assure you asura never get seasick.
(Cutscene showing Dead Ships)[1]
At first ship:
- Agent Zott: I envy Inkblood his shore leave. These ships are horrible!
- Elli: You say "shore leave," I say "hydrophobia." That lummox got off lucky, if you ask me.
- Merri Sunbower: If you two work half as well as you argue, we'd have these ships fixed already.
Attempting to board the ship before briefing with Eilye:
- Sergeant Eilye Jeyne: We need to discuss tactics before anyone steps onboard these foul ships.
Talking to the team before starting the boarding:
- Fel Vaerdenmer: Well, you have me on board for the whole expedition. Better let Crusader Jeyne know we're ready.
- Right.
- Merri Sunbower: What're we hanging around here for? I'm ready to kick some Orrians to the Mists!
- I'll just let Crusader Jeyne know.
- Elli: Ooooh...the rocking. My stomach doesn't like it, my head doesn't like it. If it keeps up, your shoes won't like it because I'm about to output all over them.
- Think about fighting instead.
- Agent Zott: Ready and able, Commander. Are we moving out?
- Soon enough.
Talking to Crusader Jayne:
- Crusader Eilye Jeyne: Gangplank secured, Commander. Is everyone ready to proceed?
- We're good to go.
- Acknowledged! Fall in, everyone. Stay close and stay sharp.
- Follow me.
- Are you sure there are Orrians here? The ships look empty.
- The crew's definitely still here, waiting for us to board so they can leap out and attack. Seen that trick before.
- Okay. We're ready then.
- Got it. Give me another moment to prepare.
- What will we find on these ships?
- It could be anything. The Orrian fleet is built to harry all of the ships in the sea. They're crewed by the dead they scoop up and reanimate with Zhaitan's power.
- Got it. We're all good to go.
- Are you sure there are Orrians here? The ships look empty. (same as above)
- Right. Give me another moment to prepare.
- Not yet. Give me a moment more to prepare.
While fighting on first ship:
- Elli: More bad guys coming from the—whatsit—lower part of the ship!
- Risen Captain Itnaya: Foolish mortal creatures. Get. Off. My. SHIP!
After clearing the first ship:
- Fel Vaerdenmer: One down, three to go. These Risen don't make it easy, do they, Merri, my dove?
- Merri Sunbower: Would we want it to be easy, Fel, my love? Let them come! We'll keel-haul them with their own lines!
- Fel Vaerdenmer: That's my rowdy girl! Crusader Jeyne, I think we're ready for the next gangplank.
Talking to your team during or between the boardings:
- Crusader Eilye Jeyne: Right behind you. I've got your back.
- Thanks. Let's go.
- Elli: Right behind you, Commander. Me and my hologram, rather.
- Be careful out here.
- Agent Zott: Don't worry about Elli's seasickness. We're asura, and we always strive for professionalism. Today will be no different.
- Good. Tell her to hang in there.
- Fel Vaerdenmer: Right behind you. Don't worry about me!
- Good to hear. Bye.
- Merri Sunbower: Don't worry about Fel and I. We'll keep up.
- Excellent.
While fighting on the second ship:
- Crusader Eilye Jeyne: More enemies, aft! Look toward the rear of the ship!
- Risen Captain Redeye: Pathetic flesh and blood. I will end you, and Zhaitan will consume you!
After clearing the second ship:
- Agent Zott: Unusual ocular glands on these creatures. I've never seen lobules quite like these.
- Merri Sunbower: With due respect, Agent, I don't care what they see. I just care that they're dead.
- Agent Zott: Still, they could see the beacons...ah, no matter. Crusader Jeyne, the gangplank, if you please?
While fighting on the third ship:
- Crusader Eilye Jeyne: Watch it, they're crawling up the outer hull!
- Crusader Eilye Jeyne: Enemies on deck! Cut them down!
- Elli: They're coming in from the sides!
- Crusader Eilye Jeyne: Careful! That lot looks like they're commanding magic.
- Risen Captain Yejj: One of you seems familiar. Still, you will die all the same.
After clearing the third ship:
- Agent Zott: Elli, get a move on! Elli...? Elli, are you all right?
- Elli: I...I knew this one. His name was Yejj. He left Rata Sum to be a gladiator...
- Agent Zott: There, there, dear girl. Don't give up now. Whatever would your imaginary holographic friends do without you?
- Elli: Thank you, Zotty. Crusader Eilye, put out the last gangplank. I owe those Risen a punch in their guts.
While fighting on the fourth ship:
- Merri Sunbower: Hey, look Fel. Someone left an arm lying around.
- Fel Vaerdenmer: Hm. It's probably a trick. Get an axe.
- Crusader Eilye Jeyne: It looks like it fell from...Balthazar's hounds, they're in the rigging. Look up!
- Elli: Bad guys on deck!
- Risen Captain Coloyaqui: We were fed to the dragon to ease its anger, but now you will be the prey!
After clearing the last boat (cinematic):
- Merri Sunbower: These bone ships are saggy, rotted, and full of holes, but still seaworthy. As long as you're not planning to sail to Elona, they'll do.
- Sergeant Eilye Jeyne: Not Elona. Just the city of Arah—right into the dragon's maw. When can the ships be ready?
- Fel Vaerdenmer: Depends on Elli and Zott. I swear, they fight like norn and argue like they're married!
- <Character name>: You'll have all the help we can spare, Captain. Tyria itself depends on us.
- Fel Vaerdenmer: We'll be as quick as we can, Commander, my word on it. When the ships are ready, we'll alert Marshal Trahearne.
Talking to your team after finishing the mission:
- Crusader Eilye Jeyne: Excellent work. I'll stand guard here until more pact engineers arrive. Thanks for the help!
- No problem.
- Merri Sunbower: Orrians don't like giving up their stuff, do they? Technically, it was ours first, but—well, never mind. We got boats to fix!
- Will you be safe until the rest of the Pact engineers arrive?
- Of course. Jeyne's an excellent guard. I'd trust her with the lives of every member of my family.
- Where is your family now?
- Our daughter is a Balthazar priestess in Divinity's Reach. Our son, Benn...well, he runs around with the Order of Whispers and doesn't even use his proper last name. Proud of them both, of course.
- Order of Whispers? Is your son Benn Tenstrikes? (If character is Order of Whispers)
- That's what he calls himself. Okay, so he brags about destroying anything in ten strikes or less, but to make it your full name? That's not heroic, that's vain.
- How much work will the ships take?
- Can you tell me more about you and Fel?
- Good luck with the boats.
- How much work will the ships take?
- Can you tell me more about you and Fel?
- Good luck with the boats.
- How much work will the ships take?
- Can you tell me more about you and Fel?
- Good luck with the boats.
- How much work will the ships take?
- It's looking rough, but the base timbers are solid. If we strengthen the deck and the base frames, we should be good.
- Will Jeyne be enough to guard you until the rest of the Pact engineers arrive?
- Can you tell me more about you and Fel?
- Good luck.
- Can you tell me more about you and Fel?
- We used to be...seagoing merchants. We settled down in Lion's Arch, but when the Pact called for seasoned captains and crews, we came out of retirement.
- Will Eilye be enough to guard you until the rest of the Pact engineers arrive?
- How much work will the ships take?
- Good luck with the boats.
- Good luck.
- Agent Zott: Certainly an intriguing plan. I'll make certain these ships are properly seaworthy before I see you again.
- Thanks for talking to Elli. It meant a lot to her.
- It's hard to lose someone. I used to be much more lighthearted, but then I lost—never mind. The point is I know it can hurt, but also that you can't let it stop you. We have to keep going.
- Very true.
- Best of luck with that.
- Elli: Oh, I never thought I'd be looking forward to refurbishing a bunch of malodorous boats. The quicker we're complete, the quicker we can depart.
- Are you okay? It seems you knew that asura captain.
- Yejj? Yes, I knew him. It was hard seeing him like this, but at least I can bury him properly when this is over. And what Zott said meant a lot to me. He's not so bad.
- What about the seasickness?
- No, he's not. Talk to you later.
- How's the seasickness?
- Getting better. I think the adrenaline rush from fighting cancelled out the nauseous rocking. I'd write a paper about it right now, but I'm afraid I'd blorp all over it.
- Are you okay? You looked upset about your friend back there.
- I believe you. Talk to you later.
- Very true. Let's get going.

Notes[edit]
- The dialog text from the cinematic showing the dead ships were removed:
- ^
- Crusader Eilye Jeyne: I don't like this. The ships so quiet, I can hear it rocking in the waves.
- Elli: Don't say "rocking." Please do NOT say that... (groans)
- Agent Zott: Keep your chin up, Elli. I mean that. Helps keep down the vomit.
