Walkthrough[edit]
You will have to meet Beigarth the Smith in the Great Lodge in Hoelbrak. He is located directly beside Jormag's fang. He will ask you to find Deldrimor steel in the Grawlenfjord area, which is located in the eastern part of Wayfarer Foothills.
Head east from Hoelbrak to enter the quest instance. Once inside, several groups of jotun guard the area before the cave, along with a patrolling group that can be avoided. Lundvarr the Intrepid is a norn prisoner near the cave entrance - approaching him will cause two jotun to attack. Once inside, kill the two groups of jotun then investigate the altar and pick up the Deldrimor steel. It is possible to avoid all fighting, and run straight to the relics and altar if you are a much higher level than the suggested level. This ends this chapter very quickly.
Return to Beigarth in Hoelbrak, and he will send you to speak with Eir. Speak with her and choose your reward to complete the quest.

Dialogue[edit]
In your mail after reaching level 10:
A Challenge Awaits You in Hoelbrak Hail, Slayer of Issormir! I heard your victory in the Great Hunt, and Eir Stegalkin herself recommended I contact you. I have a challenge for you, one that will benefit us both if you're willing to meet it. I await your arrival at Might and Main in Hoelbrak, but glory waits for no norn! Come see me, and I guarantee both our legends will grow! —Beigarth the Blacksmith |
The Great Lodge[edit]
Speaking to Beigarth the Smith:
- <Character name>: Beigarth the Smith! What would you have of this season's finest slayer?
- Beigarth: You're mighty confident for one so young. I like that. Reminds me of me, after I won the Great Hunt...but that was a long time ago.
- Beigarth: I chose smithing over hunting, and I never regretted it. Now it's time to forge my masterpiece, a mighty weapon to break Jormag's tooth!
- <Character name>: Nothing has so much as scratched the tooth in over a hundred years. What makes you think you could craft such a thing?
- Beigarth: Deldrimor steel. If I can get my hands on enough of it, I can make a weapon to shatter mountains!
- Beigarth: The secret of the alloy was lost with the dwarves, but I can smelt existing relics into the steel I need. Such artifacts have surfaced in a jotun cave near Grawlenfjord.
- Beigarth: That's why I sent for you. If you can beat back the jotun and collect the artifacts I need to forge the weapon, you might be worthy of bearing it. Interested?
- <Character name>: Interested? Ha! I'm determined! Ready your forge for dwarven metal, smithy!
Talking to Beigarth again before going to Grawlenfjord:
- Beigarth: I'm waiting to be impressed. Where's my Deldrimor steel? Come on, show me some of the fire that won you a spot in the Great Hunt.
- Before I go, what can you tell me about Jormag and the Sons of Svanir?
- Jormag's one the Elder Dragons, the ice one. When it rose, it drove our people from our homes in the Shiverpeaks. Knut Whitebear[sic] led us here, and promised we'd someday return to reclaim our land.
- That's all I needed to know. I'll be back soon with your Deldrimor steel.
- That will be a glorious day. What about the Sons?
- The Sons of Svanir decided Jormag was ultimate predator, worthy of adoration. Now they worship the ice dragon as if it were a Spirit of the Wild. To them, brutality is more admirable than honor.
- Thanks for the information. I'll be back soon with your Deldrimor steel.
- Don't rush me, smithy. I'll get your steel.
Kresdor Kenning[edit]
Upon entering the instance:
- Jotun: Run, insect! Leave before I tear your arms off and beat you to death with them.
Approaching the Jotun huts:
- Lundvarr the Intrepid: I need help! These ugly lumps mean to kill me!
Killing the nearby jotun:
- Lundvarr the Intrepid: Thank you. I can take care of myself from here, but there are more prisoners inside.
- Lundvarr the Intrepid: The Sons dragged them in, and then I heard screams. Don't worry about me, help them!
Upon entering the cave:
- Jotun: We will make another offering. A hunter who wandered too close. He is strong. His sacrifice will gain us power.
- Jotun: We could butcher an entire homestead without this "dragon". This ceremony is a waste.
- Jotun: That faithless attitude is the reason for our decline. Don't be so eager to embrace ignorance.
- Jotun: We live no better than animals! Ignorance is relying on others to save us. That will be our downfall.
Nearing the shrine:
- Jotun: Jormag, hear us! Give us the strength to reclaim our birthright.
- Jotun: Jormag, give us strength.
- Jotun: Accept this offering of blood and bone. Make our enemies yours, and we will make your enemies our own.
- Jotun: Jormag, give us strength.
- Jotun: In your name, we will destroy them all. We will rule this land once more. Jormag, give us strength!
- Jotun: Jormag, give us strength.
- Ice Dragon Shrine: This crude shrine appears to be dedicated to the Elder Dragon Jormag. A recently deceased norn is splayed across the altar.
- Leave the shrine.
- Your spit freezes in the air and shatters upon the cold stone of the altar.
- Leave the shrine.
Spit on the shrine. (Brute)
- Pay your respects to the fallen.
- A reverent silence descends on the cave. The shrine stands ready for your eulogy.
- the Mists.
- Your solemn words echo throughout the cave.
- Leave the altar.
Rest now, hunter. May the Spirits of the Wild guid you to your reward in - Your grim vow echoes throughout the cave.
- Leave the altar.
I don't know you, but whoever did this to you will drown in a sea of blood. I swear it.
- Your kind words echo throughout the cave.
- Leave the altar.
I'm sorry I couldn't help you, but I promise that no one else will wind up like this.
- Leave.
- Ice Dragon Shrine: The shrine is unchanged. There is nothing more to learn here. (when interacting a second time)
- Leave.
- Pile of Dwarven Trinkets: The Deldrimor artifacts glitter with an unnatural light.
- Retrieve the artifacts.
Returning to Beigarth:
- <Character name>: I brought you dwarven steel, blacksmith. I also saw the bodies of the other hunters you sent. Those jotun are worshiping the ice dragon.
- Beigarth: Bear's breath! I didn't know that! I'll take the steel off you hands, but I can't do anything about the jotun. Though I do know someone who can...
- Beigarth: Do you know Eir Stegalkin? Tall, beautiful, travels with a huge black wolf? She killed one of the ice dragon's strongest lieutenants.
- <Character name>: Of course. She fought beside me against Issormir, and I've heard songs of her epic deeds at several moots.
- Beigarth: She could help us. And, not to be a gossip or anything, I hear she's taking quite an interest in you since the Great Hunt.
- <Character name>: In me? Why?
- Beigarth: To tell the truth, I'm not sure. Perhaps you impressed her. In any case, ask her about these jotun, and I'm sure she'll lend a hand.
Talking to Beigarth:
- Beigarth: Thanks for all your help, <Character name>, but I'm eager to start working with the Deldrimor steel! Great weapons don't forge themselves, you know.
- Good forging, Beigarth.
At Stonewright's Steading[edit]
Approaching Eir and Garm:
- Eir Stegalkin: Hold still, Garm. You know I can't carve your image properly when you're wiggling.
- Eir Stegalkin: Ah, this stone isn't right! It'll never... What's that, Garm? Someone's coming?
- Eir Stegalkin: Very well. We'll leave this alone for now. Perhaps the next stone will be better.
Speaking to Eir:
- Eir Stegalkin: It's good to see you again, Slayer. You look troubled. What's wrong?
- <Character name>: I've been to the jotun caves near Grawlenfjord. They're worshiping the Elder Dragon Jormag.
- Eir Stegalkin: Jotun are fanatical about their old ways. They wouldn't worship Jormag. Unless... what do you know about the Sons of Svanir?
- <Character name>: I know they're the idiots who embrace the ice dragon as a Spirit of the Wild.
- Eir Stegalkin: From what you saw, so do these jotun. There has to be a connection. There are Sons of Svanir near Hirbadd's Camp. They might be involved.
- Eir Stegalkin: This is definitely worth a Slayer's attention. If you're willing, Garm and I will meet you there. Let's see if we can persuade the Sons to tell us what's going on.
- <Character name>: That sounds perfect. Eir Stegalkin, side-by-side with the Slayer of Issormir. The Skaalds will sing of this for generations!
- Eir Stegalkin: Careful... skaalds also sing of noble hunters dying grisly deaths. But with Wolf's help, we'll give them something better. See you there.
Talking to Eir Stegalkin again:
- Eir Stegalkin: Are you ready for this challenge, Slayer? We need to confront the Sons of Svanir near Hirbadd's Camp.
- I'm ready. Let's move.
- Talking to the Norn outside the steading
Approaching Baeger and Somke:
- Baeger: Look at that craftsmanship. She's as great a sculptor as she was an arena fighter.
- Somke: She has amazing talent...but she seems so lonely. Where are all her friends?
- Baeger: As long as she sculpts me to look as good as I do in real life, I don't really care.
- Baeger: Hey, you're the Slayer of Issormir! Are you here to get Eir to carve you?
- She hasn't met me yet! She's clearly waiting to carve someone worthy of her talents, and that someone is me.
- Good luck with that. I'll keep an eye out for your Eir Stegalkin original.
A worthy goal, but I hear she's choosy about her subjects.
- No, I'm here on more urgent business.
- Somke: Eir's sculptures are wonderful, but I wish she was still adventuring. The dragons are still out there. I wonder what she's waiting for.
- You may be right. Or maybe she's looking for the right adventuring companion. Wouldn't that be something!
- Stop listening to rumors. She has Garm. What else does she need?
Maybe it's a clever ploy. She could be biding her time for a big comeback.
- Eir's done great things. She'll do more when she's ready.
Approaching Effja and Annja:
- Annja: Raven's beak, that's one bad statue.
- Effja: What are you talking about? It's incredible. The carving is flawless.
- Annja: I'm not questioning her skill, just her choice of subjects. That oaf doesn't deserve a monument.
- Effja: Art is tricky. You have to stop and think to appreciate it. The subject of a piece doesn't matter, so long as it's a good representation. Does that make sense?
- Well said! It's spiritual: Raven gives us clarity of mind to know the good, and Bear gives us brute strength to smash the awful!
- Ha! There are plenty of norn artists, but I think you're the first norn art critic.
Like a beautiful song about an ugly dog.
- You're missing the point. Art elevates both subject and audience. I swear, the next time someone whines about subject and not craftsmanship, I'll brain them with a tree branch!
- Right. That's a very elevated attitude you've got there, professor.
No. I can "represent" what dolyaks leave behind on a trail, but it's still scat.
- I don't really care. I may not know art, but I know what I like.
- Annja: You can't argue with Eir's skill, but her choice of subjects ruins the whole effect. Well-crafted pieces, but ugly is ugly.
- Eir says the same thing around the fire. When she finds someone worthwhile, I think she'll carve a statue worthy to place in the Great Lodge!
- Thanks for the information.
You raise an interesting point. Heroes just aren't what they used to be.
- You should focus on the pretty heroes. There are plenty all around you. Good-bye.
My story[edit]
|
- Previous text
- I gave the bards something new to sing about by helping the people of Wayfarer Hills. I also received a message from Beigarth the Smith, seeking my help. I'm on my way. Soon everybody will know my name!
Beigarth the Smith is starting a new project, and he wants my help. He swears his new blade will be able to cut mountains in half, but it requires a special type of metal that can only be found in the jotun-infested caves near Hoelbrak. This will be a chance for me to test my might and earn Beigarth's favor.
I bested the jotun in the cave. Recovering Beigarth's steel was simpler once they were out of the way, but I'm troubled by the shrine to Jormag I saw there. The jotun seem to have been worshipping it. Beigarth will want to know more.
I collected the steel Beigarth needs to forge his weapon, but I also saw jotun in the caves, worshipping at an altar to the ice dragon Jormag! I'm going to tell Eir Stegalkin about this—nobody has more experience battling Jormag's corruption than her.
I told Eir about the jotun worshipping Jormag and, as I'd hoped, she wanted to look into it immediately. The Sons of Svanir are always trying to spread Jormag's influence, so Eir and I are headed to their camp to get some answers.
