Walkthrough[edit]
Follow the quest marker to Eir's home in Hoelbrak and speak with her. After the cinematic, head to the northern part of Wayfarer Foothills and follow the marker to Edenvar's Homestead. There is a nearby waypoint that you might have already.
After entering the instance, go into the homestead to find Whitebear and speak to him. After the cinematic, enter the brawling circle to start the fight. It is a large group of brawlers to fight, but they will be fighting each other as well as you. You can use this to your advantage by ganging up on an opponent or using AoE skills on a small group fighting each other.
After the brawl you need to choose between one of two challenges, fighting Nollarr, a Son of Svanir, which will take you to First Attack, or taking care of murellows, which will take you to The Finishing Blow quest.

Dialogue[edit]
At Frost Basin[edit]
- Norn Child: I know! I just decided! Here's what I'm gonna be like when I grow up!
- Norn Child: "Rarrr! I am the most fearsome norn in the land! Give me all your candy!" and then they'll say...
- Norn Child: "Oh no! You are the most scariest and best! Take all my candy!"
- Norn Child: Or maybe I'll be like this...
- Norn Child: "Yes, I understand your problem. I will go punch those jotun right in their faces and make them stop being mean!"
- Norn Child: "Yay! You are the nicest and best and also the best fighter ever! We all love you!"
- Norn Child: Hmm, now, I don't know which one I like better.
Talking with female Norn Child:
- Norn Child: So, what are you doing here? Is Eir gonna train you, too? You must be pretty tough! You gotta be tough to train with Eir! She's important!
- Norn Child: Wow, you're really scary! That's amazing!
Me? I'm the toughest norn ever. Listen to this roar! RARRRRGH! (Ends conversation)
- Norn Child: Rarrrrrrrr! RAWR! That's my scary roar. What do you think? I think it's the best.
You look tough, too. Let me hear how tough you are! (Ends conversation)
- Norn Child: We should be practicing! There's a few charr in the Great Lodge. I bet they'd spar with us.
- Norn Child (male) That sounds tiring—and amazing! Let's go! (Norn children exit)
Well, if she taught you, you should be practicing, right? (Ends conversation)
- Maybe. We'll see. Talk to you later.
Talking with female Norn Child a second time:
- Norn Child: You're the Slayer of Issormir, right? I've heard of you. Hey, we should fight!
- Sounds like fun. Come and find me when you're a little bit bigger.
Talking with male Norn Child:
- Norn Child: But I don't want to be done! Tell Eir to teach us more fighting stuff.
Talking with second male Norn Child:
- Norn Child: Look at this weird little person! Looks like one of those long-eared runts who run those big glowy circles. Why would Eir sculpt this?
- I'm not sure. Why don't you ask her?
- I did, about five times. All she does is look kind of sad, and then she starts talking about something else.
- If the artist doesn't want to talk about her work, you can't force her. Enjoy the art.
- All I know is that Eir chooses her subjects very carefully. See you later.
Approaching Eir at her homestead:
- Eir Stegalkin: Good to see you again, slayer. Come. We have to talk.
Cinematic with Eir:
- Eir Stegalkin: I'll get straight to the point, Slayer. Do you want to get even with Mikkel Toivosson?
- <Character name>: Of course. He goaded me into a fight at the moot and cheated me out of the win. Now he refuses a rematch while bragging that my victories only add to his legend.
- Eir Stegalkin: Then you should enter the Big Brawl. Mikkel is last year's champion. If you beat him in the finals, you take his title.
- <Character name>: A public thrashing will shut his bragging mouth for good. It's an excellent plan.
- Eir Stegalkin: Thanks, but there's a catch: Whitebear is opening it up to everyone this year, not just norn. We have no clue what opponents you may face.
- <Character name>: The tougher the competition, the greater the glory. It'll make taking down Mikkel that much sweeter. Where do I start?
- Eir Stegalkin: I was hoping you'd say that. Garm and I will see you at Edenvar's Homestead for the preliminary bout. We wouldn't miss it for all the ale in Tyria!
Talking with Eir afterwards:
- Eir Stegalkin: Go on ahead, <Character name>. I'll tell Knut Whitebear that you're participating. I'll meet you there, and by then everything will be ready.
- I'm curious about the Big Brawl. Can you tell me more?
- It's where we norn test ourselves against each other. The winners get glory, the losers get inspired to try harder. This year's twist is that the competition is open to all comers.
- Well said, but don't underestimate the competition. You'll be facing the toughest brawlers in the world, including charr—and you know how charr hate to lose.
- I'm not worried. I'll deal with anyone that comes along. See you there!
So much the better. More variety means more glory for me when I win.
- That's how I know you're ready. Go on ahead to Edenvar's Homestead. Garm and I will meet you there.
- I'll be there. Thanks again, Eir.
So, Knut wants to test us against other races, as well? I welcome the challenge!
- That explains why so many of your new friends have bruises. You'd better save some of that sharp wit for the fights—you're going to need it.
- Don't worry, I've got plenty to spare. See you at the first match!
I've always said that punching people in the face is the second best way to make friends.
- Thanks for the information. I'll talk to you later.
- Thanks, Eir. I'll see you there.
At Halvaunt Snowfield[edit]
Talking with various Brawlers before the fight:
- Brawler (male): I'm gonna mess you up! And then make you drink to my victory!
- Brawler (male): First you, then Mikkel—the Big Brawl championship will be mine!
- Brawler (male): Think you can beat me? Not a chance!
- Brawler (female): Let's see how well you do in a real fight, Slayer.
- Brawler (female): Get ready for pain, Slayer!
- Brawler (female): You're nothing compared to my magic!
Talking to Whitebear in Edenvar's Homestead (cinematic):
- Mikkel Toivosson: Why are you here, Slayer? Even if you reach the finals, I'll just stomp you. Why waste everybody's time?
- <Character name>: If it's so easy, you should be happy for the chance to do it again. Or we could just fight now and get it over with.
- Mikkel Toivosson: No. I want to see you humiliated by everyone else. Go ahead. Enter. You'll never even make it to the finals!
- Eir Stegalkin: Whitebear's about to start things off, Mikkel. Stand aside and let our newest contestant check in.
- <Character name>: I'm ready. The sooner we start, the sooner I can wipe the smirk off that cheater's face.
- Knut Whitebear: Very well. In this preliminary free-for-all, only the last two brawlers standing move to the next round. Once you're in the circle, the fight begins!
Talking to Knut Whitebear before approaching the ring:
- Knut Whitebear: I wager you brawl as well as you hunt. Winning the tournament will add another title to your growing legend.
- Thanks, but all I really want is to smack some sense into Mikkel.
- And unlike the current title-holder, I'd live up to the name "champion."
- Brawling, hunting—I do it all.
Talking to Eir before approaching the ring:
- Eir Stegalkin: This is a great chance for you to not only restore your legend, but also expand it. Lots of fun, but stay focused and don't get too carried away.
- I won't. Hoelbrak needs more heroes.
- I promise to hit Mikkel only four or five times more than necessary.
- I'll make the most of this chance.
Approaching the brawling circle and during the fight:
- Eir Stegalkin: Good luck in the brawl, Slayer!
- Knut Whitebear: All right then, slayer. This is your chance. Let's see what you can do.
- Knut Whitebear: Participants, stand by. The free-for-all is about to begin!
- Knut Whitebear: Stand ready and...fight!
- Eir Stegalkin: Hold fast!
- Eir Stegalkin points at <Character name>.
- Eir Stegalkin: Don't let them overwhelm you!
- Eir Stegalkin waves at <Character name>.
- Eir Stegalkin: Keep fighting!
- Eir Stegalkin cheers for <Character name>.
- Knut Whitebear: Hold! We have our winners!
After winning the fight (cinematic):
- Knut Whitebear: A worthy competitor. You were right about this one, Eir.
- Knut Whitebear: Choose a challenge for the next round, Slayer, since you did the best here. Your opponent will take the other challenge. After that, the Big Brawl resumes!
- Knut Whitebear: The first choice is Nollarr, a vicious and prideful Son of Svanir who likes to stir up trouble. To preserve the peace, Nollarr needs to be humbled.
- Knut Whitebear: Second is Hekka Ravenswealth, a Solitude Vale merchant who says the area is infested with murellows, a new and dangerous beast. They're ruining her business and need to be removed.
- Knut Whitebear: Choose challengers, battle them, then report to my charr friend Balteus Bloodletter in Butcher's Block. He's an expert in staging such contests.
- Knut Whitebear: Whoever reaches Balteus first advances to the second round. Take a moment to decide, and then tell me which path you're taking. Best of luck.
After the fight:
- Eir Stegalkin: Congratulations. The tournament gets tougher from here on, but I know you'll rise to the challenge.
- Speaking of challenges, what can you tell me about the special ones Knut has for us?
- I know you'll have your hands full with either one. And both will help people who are in need of a hero. I helped Knut set up the challenges, but this is his show. You should ask him.
- Okay, I'll get the whole story from Knut. Thanks, Eir.
- Thanks. I'm looking forward to it.
If the other brawler standing is male:
- Brawler: I'm on a roll! This makes four semifinals for me. Well, almost four, but I'm on my way, aren't I? Here's to a fair contest! Now, let's give these nice people something to see!
- Brrr. I'd hate to be Mikkel when you finally get ahold of him.
- Sorry to sound so bloodthirsty, but believe me—he has it coming. Good luck.
All I want to see is Mikkel's broken and defeated face. He and I have unfinished business.
- Thanks! If you get past me, please beat Mikkel, too. Then I won't mind losing so much.
- Count on it. Now let's get going!
Well, if you beat me, I hope you go all the way. Hoelbrak deserves a champion like you.
- You're a classy competitor, you know that? Thank you very much. I feel the same way.
- You're welcome. Now, let's see which of us gets to move on!
Even if I don't advance, it's been an honor competing against you. Good luck.
- Aye, to a fair contest, and a good show!
If the other brawler standing is female:
- Brawler: I did it! Well, we both did it. Too bad only one of us can move on to the second round. No offense, but it's going to be me.
- Well, I hate to get in the way of someone so determined, but I'm still going to do my best.
- I wouldn't have it any other way. Good luck.
No way. I'm determined to see Mikkel lying in a bloody, broken heap at my feet.
- Well said. Win or lose, I like competing against people like you.
- Thanks very much. Let's get started!
None taken. Hey, if you can beat me head-to-head, you deserve to move on.
- And I welcome yours. If this is as far as I go, I hope someone like you is our next champion.
- Same here. Good luck!
Knut set things up so only the best participants could advance. I welcome your challenge!
- Maybe, maybe not. We'll all find out soon. Good luck.
Making your choice with Knut:
- Knut Whitebear: What will it be? Humble Nollarr, or clear the dangerous murellows from Hekka Helvasdottir's territory? Either way, make sure you reach Balteus in Butcher's Block before your opponent does.
- I can't resist the chance to beat down a Son of Svanir. Nollarr it is!
- Very good. Nollarr is especially proud of his armored helm. Once you defeat him, take it as a trophy. That should show his followers how weak he truly is.
- I'll present the helm in Butcher's Block as soon as Nollarr hits the ground.
- I live to conquer dangerous animals! Murellows, was it? Tell Hekka it's as good as done.
- All right, but I warn you: murellows are fierce, strong brutes, steeped in disease. Watch yourself, and remember to reach Butcher's Block before your opponent.
- I will. Never hunted murellow before, so I'm downright eager. See you at the finals!
- Could you tell me a bit more about the challenges?
- Nollarr is a Sons of Svanir leader in the north. He's been inciting his followers to attack nearby settlements. Defeat him and take his helm. That should break his spirit and quiet down his troublemakers.
- Done! I'll have the helm in Butcher's Block before you know it.
- What's the other challenge?
- The merchant Hekka Helvasdottir is having trouble with murellows. They're savage, bad-tempered monsters that are loaded with diseases. Cleaning them out would be a huge public service.
- Sounds nasty. I'll sort out the murellows, and then it's on to Butcher's Block!
- Thanks for the info. Before I decide, I'd like to review my options. (Back to start)
- Let me give this some more thought before I decide.
- I haven't decided yet. I need more time to think it over.
After making your choice:
- Knut Whitebear: Good luck in your challenge, slayer.
- Knut Whitebear: You don't want the tournament to continue without you, do you? Your challenge awaits! Go out and meet it!
- I'm on my way!
