Walkthrough[edit]

Enter the stockade. You will find the jailer Seneca the Relentless dead on the ground. Resurrecting him will trigger a cutscene. After the cutscene, leave the location and make your way to the Arcovian Foothills.

Once there, talk to Seneca. A cutscene will play. Afterwards, make your way through the outpost. Dispose of all the Flame Legion members and free Forktail from his prison by destroying the gate to his cell. Once Forktail is free, you are required to head outside the camp. You will need to destroy the gates that were shut in order to keep you in. Dispatch the additional enemies that approach you.

At the end of the mission you have to decide either to disrupt the ritual or warn the tribunes.

Dialogue[edit]

Citadel Stockade[edit]

When stepping inside, your warband survivor comes in:

Clawspur: I heard there was trouble. Standing by to back you up.
Dinky: I heard you were back. What's going on?
Euryale: I heard commotion. You okay?
Maverick: I heard something was up, so I came down here.
Reeva: Whoa! I heard you were back. Looks like this party turned violent.

Talking to your warband survivor:

Clawspur: I got here as soon as I could, Legionnaire. What's up?
Talk end option tango.png I'm not sure yet. Hold on.
Dinky: Someone said there was a hubbub here. Did I miss it? I love hubbubs. I think. What's going on?
Talk end option tango.png Not sure yet. Hold on.
Euryale: I came as soon as I heard. What happened?
Talk end option tango.png Not sure yet. Hold on.
Maverick: I figured you'd need me, so here I am. What's the situation?
Talk end option tango.png Not sure yet. Hold on.
Reeva: I heard the words "trouble" and "stockade", along with your name. So, here I am. Whose tail do you want me to kick, boss?
Talk end option tango.png Not sure yet. Hold on.

Talking to the NPC in the prison:

Spark Smogbreath: You'll tell 'em, right? You'll tell 'em I didn't run. I may be a thief, but I'm not crazy. The safest place for me is inside one of these cells.
Talk more option tango.png Tell me what happened here.
Flame legion happened. Flash. Flames. Heat. When the warden showed up, they beat him, and then busted open the cells. I hid and kept quiet, but they took the others with them.
Talk more option tango.png Why didn't you fight?
For one, I had no weapon. For two, I was sure they'd killed Seneca. And for three, there were more of them than of me. And I was taught one soldier's got to survive to report back.
Talk end option tango.png All right.
Talk end option tango.png That's enough.
Talk end option tango.png You're lucky to be alive, thief. If you want to stay that way, keep out of my sight.

After you revive Seneca:

Seneca the Relentless: It was the Flame Legion. They came to bust out Forktail right after you left. I-I knew you two were in cahoots.
<Character name>: This is your last warning, jailer: watch how you talk to me. Now, did Forktail resist this breakout, or was he helping them?
Seneca the Relentless: I couldn't tell. They said they were going to kill him if he resisted, and he did...but they just knocked him out and carried him off.
Seneca the Relentless: Your sire's a snake. I wouldn't out it past him to staged the whole thing.
<Character name>: Why would he let himself be captured, put me on to their plan, and then break out? No, he was being straight with me, and they came to shut him up.
Seneca the Relentless: We need to find him. He mentioned a Flame bunker in the Arcovian Foothills. They may have taken him there.
<Character name>: Then that's where we'll go. He was your prisoner, so you have a stake in this. Meet me there.

Talking to the NPCs after the cutscene:

Seneca the Relentless: Don't wait for me—I need to secure the stockade. But then I'm going after Forktail.
Talk end option tango.png I'll meet you there.
Clawspur: What's the plan?
Talk end option tango.png Forktail has to go back. Stand by: I'll send word when I have him.
Dinky: We're chasing Flame, right? Following Forktail into their den. Aren't we?
Talk end option tango.png Not we. Me. I'll send word once I've got Forktail in custody again.
Euryale: You sure he didn't set you up? You can't trust anybody but the warband.
Talk end option tango.png Either way, I'm bringing him back. I'll send word when I have him.
Maverick: Bad news, huh? Sounds like Forktail's one slippery slug.
Talk end option tango.png I'm bringing him back no matter what. I'll send word when I have him.
Reeva: You're going after him, right? Nobody makes us look like the Fool warband. You think he did it on purpose?
Talk end option tango.png Either way, I'm bringing him back. I'll send word after I do.

Arcovian Foothills[edit]

Upon arrival:

Seneca the Relentless: Wasn't sure you'd make it, but I'm glad you're here. Listen to that: they've been chanting since I got here. Makes my skin crawl.
<Character name>: The recruiter mentioned a ritual. We'd better get in there and break it up.
Seneca the Relentless: And recover my prisoner. No one's ever escaped my stockade. I know he's you're sire, but Forktail belongs in one of my cells.
<Character name>: Tribune Brimstone wants him alive, you want him alive, I want him alive. Let's go get him...alive. Anyone else in there is a fair game.

Talking to Seneca and your warband survivor:

Seneca the Relentless: Stay alert. You can't trust a Flame Legion shaman. Mark my words, Forktail is up to something.
Talk end option tango.png I'll watch my back, thanks.
Clawspur: The direct approach—how refreshing.
Talk end option tango.png Can't argue with effectiveness.
Dinky: I'm awake. Don't worry. I got your back, Legionnaire.
Talk end option tango.png Good to know, Dinky.
Euryale: Hmph. Kidnappers and thieves. Dirty rotten Flame Legion...
Talk end option tango.png I hear you.
Maverick: Let me at 'em! I wanna give 'em some of the special Maverick love. Tough love. "Stab, stab, you're dead" love.
Talk end option tango.png You're a lover and a fighter. Smash 'em.
Reeva: Okay, Legionnaire <Character name>, good friend, warband cohort, pal. What's next on the agenda?
Talk end option tango.png This is right up your alley, Reeva. C'mon.

Approaching the Flame Legion bunker:

Clement Forktail: What are you doing here? Watch out! Behind you!
Seneca the Relentless: You! Let that prisoner go so I can take him home and lock him up!
Clement Forktail: Hurry! There are more of them around, and they'll come running any second.
Smoke Shaman: What's going on here? Guards!

As you reach Clement Forktail (cinematic):

Seneca the Relentless: Finally back with your Flame Legion friends, eh, Forktail? It's like I always say: once a traitor, always a traitor.
Clement Forktail: I'm a prisoner here, Seneca. You idiot. They were going to use me as fodder for their ritual.
<Character name>: What ritual? What does it do?
Clement Forktail: Not here. Get me out of this place, and I'll tell you everything.

Talking to Forktail:

Clement Forktail: You're an honorable soldier. I'm glad you came after me. You risked your reputation and your life on my account.
Talk end option tango.png I did my duty to the legions and Tribune Brimstone. Nothing more.
Clement Forktail: I'll get the gate open. Take care of any enemies!
Lava Shaman: Stop them before Forktail escapes! We need his power!

As you exit the Flame bunker (cinematic):

<Character name>: We're clear. Now tell me about this ritual they're planning.
Clement Forktail: It causes magical fire to burn you from this inside out. It turns flesh-and-blood creatures like me into elementals that then fuel a huge flame effigy.
Clement Forktail: The shaman plans to conduct the ritual inside the citadel, in the core. He wants to burn all the tribunes and Imperator Smodur.
Clement Forktail: I know where they're preparing the ritual. If you give me a chance to make up for my past mistake., we can stop this before it starts.
Seneca the Relentless: He can't be trusted. We need to go back to the citadel and warn everyone. We can handle the Flame Legion. This piece of trash belongs behind bars.
<Character name>: Hold on. Give me a minute to think.

Talking to everyone:

Clement Forktail: You barely know me and you owe me nothing-but listen. We can take the fight to the Flame Legion. Let me prove myself by helping to interrupt Shaman Morgath's ritual.
Talk more option tango.png Why should I trust you?
I won't let my past define me. I followed my warband blindly, gave them my full allegiance. That almost got me killed. I'd rather live out my life as a gladium-shamed-than return to the Flame Legion.
Talk more option tango.png Your warband?
Yes. When they joined the Flame Legion, I thought I had to join too. I was mistaken. They had betrayed our legion and me. I learned then that loyalty to the legion outranks loyalty to my warband.
Talk quest option tango.png A worthy lesson. All right. I'll trust you.
Talk quest option tango.png All right, Forktail. I'm willing to trust you.
If you really mean that, I won't let you down. I swear it.
Talk quest choice tango.png I do mean it. I believe your time in the stockade has changed you.
Talk end option tango.png Hold on. This is too important to rush. Let me think about it for another moment.
Talk end option tango.png I need more time to think.
Seneca the Relentless: You can't trust him. Come on, let's get back to the citadel and warn the tribunes.
Talk end option tango.png Why shouldn't I trust him?
He's a Flame Legion shaman. He could have turned his warband in when they first started sniffing around the Flame. Did he? No. What kind of soldier does that make him?
Talk quest option tango.png Agreed. I won't risk the citadel on his word.
Talk quest option tango.png Agreed. I won't risk the citadel on his word.
Good. Loyal and level-headed-you're twice the legionnaire your father[sic] was, and ten times the soldier. Get going. I'll meet you back in the Citadel.
Talk quest choice tango.png I'll be there. Let's go protect the brass.
Talk quest choice tango.png Hm. I need to think about this for another moment or two.
Talk end option tango.png I need more time to think.
Clawspur: Tough position, eh, boss?
Talk more option tango.png Yeah. What do you think I should do, Clawspur?
Trust your instincts. I do. Either we burn time to go back and warn them, or we take matters into our own hands. Either way, I got your back.
Talk end option tango.png Good to know.
Talk end option tango.png That's an understatement.
Dinky: What are we gonna do? We could go back to warn the tribunes. But what if the Flame Legion is already there? What if we aren't strong enough to fight the Flame alone? What if...oh, flaming tailburrs.
Talk more option tango.png What do you think?
You're the legionnaire. I'm just me. What would a legionnaire do? Whatever a legionnaire would do, he'd better do it soon. Those Flame types already have a head start on him.[sic]
Talk end option tango.png You're right. I'm a legionnaire. I'll decide.
Talk end option tango.png I have to make a decision.
Euryale: Just make a decision, will you? We're running out of time. It's simple: Either we go warn the citadel or we go after the Flame shaman. I'm with you, whatever you decide.
Talk more option tango.png What would you do, Euryale?
I'd kick my legionnaire's tail into gear and remind him that the Flame Legion is already a step ahead of us. And, of course, I'd back him up, no matter what he decided. Hypothetically, of course.[sic]
Talk end option tango.png I'm glad you're on my side.
Talk end option tango.png Thanks.
Maverick: Woo, you're in a squeeze, aren't you? So, what's it gonna be, Legionnaire <Character name>? Your decision is my command.
Talk more option tango.png What would you do, if you were me?
Me? I'd haul tail back to the citadel to warn them. Or I'd go after the Flame Legion myself. One of those. But either way, I'd sure want Maverick by my side. What would you do?
Talk end option tango.png Hm. You're no help.
Talk end option tango.png I'm thinking.
Reeva: Just remember. Once this is all over, you're buying.
Talk more option tango.png What would you do in my place, Reeva?
Kill them all! Mwahaha! Seriously though, there's a reason I'm not in your place. You're the legionnaire. I'm just here for the steak and ale. Warn the citadel or attack the Flame. Your call.
Talk end option tango.png You're no help.
Talk end option tango.png Not if I can help it.

Talking with your warband survivor after making a choice:

Clawspur: Right. Tribunes to protect. Ready when you are.
Talk end option tango.png Let's go.
Dinky: After we've saved the tribunes—the whole flaming citadel, really—you think they'll give us medals? Maybe a statue? Maybe a statue made of medals.
Talk end option tango.png First, we've got to save them. Let's go.
Euryale: It's always our warband that has to save the day. You'd think somebody would give us some flaming recognition. I suppose I'm ready when you are.
Talk end option tango.png Okay. Let's move out.
Maverick: Finally, a chance for the brass to see me in action. After we're done, there's going to be a new tribune in town—
Talk end option tango.png —and hopefully you'll get to meet him. Come on, superstar. Let's go.
Reeva: I've always wanted to see all the tribunes at once. Do you think they'll go for a drink with us after we save them?
Talk end option tango.png Let's save them first. Then we'll see how thirsty they are.

If you go with Clement's plan:

Seneca the Relentless: You're making a huge mistake, Legionnaire. I'll be standing by to collect Forktail once he murders you and escapes again.
Talk end option tango.png You'll get old and die before that happens.

If you go with Seneca's plan:

Seneca the Relentless: Stay alert. You can't trust a Flame Legion shaman. Mark my words, Forktail is up to something.
Talk end option tango.png I'll watch my back, thanks.
Clement Forktail: Thanks again for getting me out of there. You won't regret it—I'll take whatever's coming to me once you bring Mergath down.
Talk end option tango.png You'd better. Don't make me come looking for you.

My story[edit]

A Fork in the Road.jpg

I returned to the stockade to speak with my father, but the Flame Legion had already broken him out. Did he go willingly, or did they take him? Either way, Warden Seneca and I are going to get him back.

Seneca the Jailer and I took Forktail back from the Flame Legion. I had a tough decision to make: go with Vallus to disrupt the Flame Legion ritual threatening the Black Citadel brass, or lock Vallus up again and defend the tribunes and imperator personally. I made my choice, and now I have to make sure that no harm comes to the High Legions' leaders.
