Walkthrough[edit]
First, meet with Rytlock in his office in the Black Citadel. He'll ask to join you and then says to meet him at the Grendich Ruins.
You'll first meet your warband at the Grendich Ruins and tell them to secure the perimeter. Then, talk to Rytlock who will accompany you throughout the rest of the mission. Clear out the courtyard of ghosts, including a final group that attacks after killing the last group standing in the courtyard. Once the final group is dead, go to the courthouse area indicated on the map until the progress bar fills up. Unable to find the chest, Rytlock will mention that there are underground tunnels.
Outside of the courthouse area, kill the groups of ghosts that appeared and head to an Ascalonian statue to the right. Interact with the statue to open the gate to the aqueducts. In the aqueducts are objects to interact with: first a pile of rubble that causes a group of ghosts to appear, then another pile of rubble that spawns a group of oozes, then finally a rusted door that causes a second group of ghosts to appear. After slaying the last group of ghosts, Stefan Baruch, a champion ghost, will attack. After killing him, go up the stairs to find the treasure chest you've been looking for. Open the chest to complete the mission.

Dialogue[edit]
Blood Tribune Quarters[edit]
Speaking to your other allies before Rytlock:
- Laria Sharpeye: Welcome back, Legionnaire. Did you get what you were after?
- Yes. I'm about to brief Tribune Brimstone.
- Clawspur: So, we're all set. Two halves make a whole. What's next?
- We check in with Tribune Brimstone.
- Dinky: Good—both pieces of the key. I'd hate to only open the chest halfway.
- That's not how it works, Dinky. Come on. Tribune Brimstone will want to hear about this.
- Euryale: Okay, I'm starting to get excited about that chest. Only a little though.
- You hide it well. Come on, let's see what Tribune Brimstone has to say.
- Maverick: Now that we have the whole key, we can collect the whole treasure. And we'll need the whole treasure to make this worthwhile.
- You'll get your share, Mav. Let's check in with Brimstone.
- Reeva: Yeah! Who's got the whole key? We do, we do!
- And we're going to use it...right after we check in with Brimstone.
At Rytlock's office (cinematic):
- (If you completed No Negotiations)
- Rytlock Brimstone: I've been looking forward to your report, Legionnaire. How did it go with the scrappers? Did you beat some sense into them?
- <Character name>: Absolutely, sir. I've got both halves of the key. I'm ready to claim my legacy.
- (If you completed Salvaging Scrap)
- Rytlock Brimstone: I've been looking forward to your report, Legionnaire. How did it go with the scrappers?
- <Character name>: We struck a bargain. I helped them, and now I've got both halves of the key. I'm ready to claim my legacy.
- Rytlock Brimstone: Good. I wonder what Argus thought was so important. And I've been cooped up in this office too long. Mind if I join you?
- <Character name>: I'd be honored, Tribune Brimstone.
- Rytlock Brimstone: Excellent. I'll meet you out at the ruins—and call me Rytlock, soldier.
Speaking with your allies once more before departing:
- Rytlock Brimstone: I'll meet you at Grendich Ruins after I settle some citadel business. It'll be good to get back into the fray again, even for a little while.
- Can't wait to fight by your side. See you there.
- Laria Sharpeye: Tribune Brimstone has taken quite a shine to you. And it'll be good for him to get out and stretch his muscles. But tell me: how were the scrappers?
- Easy. We explained our position and [sic] were more than happy to do as we asked. (If you completed No Negotiations)
- You beat them senseless, didn't you? Hey, if you got results, that's what matters. Good luck with the treasure!
- Thanks.
- I got my key back, but it took some hard work. I had to fight a herd of ghost cows. (If you completed Salvaging Scrap)
- Ghost...cows? You're pulling my leg, but if not: that's hilarious. And disturbing. Good luck with the treasure!
- Thanks.
- I did thanks.
- Clawspur: We got a tribune, huh? Impressive.
- Be sure to enjoy it. It doesn't happen often.
- We'll do you proud, Legionnaire.
- You always do.
- Dinky: I love it when the brass comes to fight with us. It saves us the telling of what happened.
- Now to collect my father's treasure and impress a tribune.
- All right! Treasures and tribunes and...uh...treats?
- Sounds good to me. Let's get going.
- Euryale: I don't like the brass horning in on this one. It's an excuse for them to interfere.
- Not this time. Brimstone wants to join us as a comrade, not an officer.
- Just don't let him go thinking he's a member of our warband. We spent a lot of time gathering just the right personnel.
- We'll call the tribune and auxilliary. Let's go.
- Maverick: If he's coming along, Brimstone must really be excited about working with me!
- It's a big deal for everyone. Let's move out.
- Right behind you, boss. Now the brass'll see how a real warband struts its stuff.
- First reach the site, then commence strutting. Let's move.
- Reeva: Brimstone's coming with us? Best ending to the best treasure hunt ever!
- I agree.
- He needs a nickname if he's running with us. Brimstone the Bruiser? Brim-stud? I know! Brimsy!
- Stick with "Tribune" for now. Move out, soldier.
The Blasted Moors[edit]
Speaking with your allies:
- Yahuk Fellstrike: A hidden treasure and the chance to kill Ascalonian ghosts? This is my favorite mission yet.
- It's not over yet. Stand by for orders.
- Elexus Shredskin: Hope you find what you're looking for, boss.
- That makes all of us. Stand by.
- Luccia Wildeye: When you finally get it open, hold up the treasure and yell real loud so I don't miss it.
- You may be out of sight. I need you to hold here until I say different.
- <Other warband ally>: Hope you find what you're looking for, boss.
- With you backing me up, I know I will. Stand by for orders.
Talking to Rytlock Brimstone:
- Rytlock Brimstone: Ears up, soldier. The ghosts can hit us from any direction at any time.
Speaking with your warband survivor:
- <Warband survivor>: Standing by.
- Spread out and establish a perimeter. Rytlock and I will conduct the search.
- Understood. The only ghosts you'll see are already in there.
- Outstanding. Now move out, soldier!
- <Each warband ally> salutes <Character name>.
Meeting Rytlock at the Grendich Ruins (cinematic):
- Rytlock Brimstone: Well, Legionnaire. Ready to claim your inheritance?
- <Character name>: You know it, sir...Rytlock.
- Rytlock Brimstone: Let's go get it, then. But we need to clear out the ghosts first—they won't let us by without a fight.
- Rytlock Brimstone: I'm looking forward to it. I haven't had a good fight in...well, too long.
- <Character name>: Then let's get started.
After the cinematic:
- Rytlock Brimstone: All right, let's clear out these walking failures and get your sire's treasure!
If you head in the wrong direction:
- Rytlock Brimstone disagrees with <Character name>.
- Rytlock Brimstone: Hold up there, Legionnaire! We've still got business here!
- Rytlock Brimstone disagrees with <Character name>.
- Rytlock Brimstone: Where you headed, soldier? Is there another entrance I don't know about?
Speaking with your warband allies as they keep watch:
- <Warband survivor>: Perimeter established. Bring us back something shiny.
- Done.
- <Other warband ally>: We'll keep the perimeter covered, boss. Go get that treasure!
- Will do.
After clearing the courtyard:
- Ascalonian Captain: Intruders! Kill 'em 'til it hurts.
After searching the courthouse (cinematic):
- <Character name>: Burn me! I don't see any treasure. Maybe someone looted it already. Tell me we didn't come all this way for nothing.
- Rytlock Brimstone: We're not done yet. This is only part of Grendich Courthouse. There's also a reservoir that runs beneath the lower levels.
- <Character name>: Sounds like the perfect place to hide valuables. Let's find a way into those lower passages.
- Rytlock Brimstone: Let's find what we're looking for before these ghosts come back.
Speaking with Rytlock after the cinematic:
- Rytlock Brimstone: I know this place from when I was a cub. There's an old statue of some human—Stefan something-or-other—we'd throw rocks at his face.
- A statue? I'll keep an eye out for it. That at least gives us something to look for.
If you head in the wrong direction:
- Rytlock Brimstone: Where you headed, soldier? Is there another entrance I don't know about?
Examining the statue by the locked gate:
- Ascalonian Statue: The statue is old and broken, nearly falling apart. The stone has seen better days, and hairline cracks spiderweb through its structure.
- Examine the statue closely.
- The statue seems hastily jammed in position here. It's obviously been moved from somewhere else. Also, the upraised arm was broken long ago and has been carefully replaced. Is it a clue?
- There's something hidden behind this statue!
- This tells me nothing...yet. I think I'll look around a bit more.
After revealing the tunnel:
- Rytlock Brimstone: Ha! Not bad. Argus Foolkiller was a wily one, that's for certain. Let's go!
Speaking with Rytlock:
- Rytlock Brimstone: With all these ghosts floating around, there has to be something worthwhile in here.
- And I'm not leaving until we find it.
Searching the first Pile of Rubble:
- Pile of Rubble: There's nothing special about this pile of rubble, but there is an eerie blue glint nearby.
- Come on out, ghosts! I know you're there.
Searching the second Pile of Rubble:
- Pile of Rubble: There's nothing special about this pile of rubble...except for that viscous, squishing sound nearby.
- Oozes! Look out, we've got oozes!
Investigating the Rusted Gate:
- Rusted Gate: The gate is rusted shut, and a faint hollow moaning streams through it.
- Sounds like more ghosts. Get ready to fight!
Upon defeating the last group of ghosts and Stefan Baruch appears:
- Stefan Baruch threatens <Character name>.
Cinematic:
- Stefan Baruch: That's far enough. The courthouse is under my protection. No charr leaves here alive!
- Rytlock Brimstone: I was hoping someone would say that. C'mere, foggy, I've got a history lesson for you!
- <Character name>: And since you ghosts are such slow learners, we're going to keep teaching it to you until it sticks.
During the fight:
- Stefan Baruch: Prepare to meet Grenth, vermin!
- Stefan Baruch: Try this on for size!
- Stefan Baruch: By Balthazar's mighty blade, I will hear your screams of anguish!
- Ancient Treasure Chest: This chest is obviously old and well-worn. It would have been considered an antique even before the Searing! Looks like your key will fit the lock perfectly.
- Unlock the chest.
- Leave the chest alone.
After opening the treasure chest (cinematic):
- <Character name>: At last. The treasure. We did it, Rytlock!
- Rytlock Brimstone: Now I understand why Argus's warband couldn't split the prize! This is a Diessa Chalice, an old Ascalonian treasure. It may even be the last of them.
- <Character name>: How do you know that? You don't look like a student of human culture.
- Rytlock Brimstone: Know your enemy, soldier. Besides, I've had to sit through more than a few human god-rants. Dwayna this, Grenth that. Meh.
- <Character name>: I hear you. Thanks again for helping me find my sire's legacy.
- Rytlock Brimstone: You're welcome. It felt good to get out again. I'm starting to think I wasn't meant for office work.
- Rytlock Brimstone: Enjoy the chalice, soldier. You earned it. Just be ready to answer when I call. The next time I go out for some fresh air, I'll want you with me.
Speaking with Rytlock after the conclusion:
- Rytlock Brimstone: Now that's what being a soldier's all about. Big fun, Legionnaire. I need to get out of the citadel more often...maybe for a nice, long stretch.
- Had enough office work?
- More like I've rediscovered my true calling. There's also something building up that needs my full attention. Ever heard of the Orders of Tyria?
- Order of Whispers, the Durmand Priory, and the Vigil. (Honorable)
- Right. Three independent organizations with the resources and know-how to make a difference. Right now they're the ones most dedicated to stopping the Elder Dragons.
- You think the dragons are a bigger threat than the ghosts or the Flame Legion?
- Absolutely. I hunted them with my old guild, Destiny's Edge. But that story ends badly, and right now you should be celebrating. I'll tell you all about it some other time.
- I look forward to it. Thanks, Rytlock.
I know of the - Not much. I've been too busy with my warband lately. Who are they?
- The Order of Whispers, Durmand Priory, and Vigil: three independent organizations dedicated to stopping the Elder Dragons, with the resources and know-how to make a difference. It's a goal I share.
- You want to fight the dragons?
- Absolutely. I hunted them with my old guild, Destiny's Edge. But that story ends badly, and right now you should be celebrating. I'll tell you all about it some other time.
- I look forward to it. Thanks, Rytlock.
- I hear you. Already too cramped in here, and we haven't been here long. Let's move.

Notes[edit]
- On completion of this story segment, Diessa Chalice is displayed in personal story.
Trivia[edit]
- Diessa Chalices were unique trophies obtained in the Cathedral of Flames dungeon in Guild Wars Eye of the North.
- After searching the courthouse, if the player decides to go south-east rather than going into the passage past the Ascalonian statue, Rytlock will ask the player where he/she's headed and if he/she knows about another entrance Rytlock doesn't know of. This may refer to the well that players could use in the open world to jump down directly into the Old Grendich Aqueduct or the underwater tunnel from Blackblade Lake that connects to the aqueduct. The well however is closed off and cannot be entered.
