Contractually Obligated is a story instance as part of Last Stand at Southsun. Completing the instance will reward the associated achievement. To start the instance, talk to Inspector Ellen Kiel at Pearl Islet.
Objectives[edit]
Escort the Consortium dolyak to the ship. (Level 80)
Walkthrough[edit]
Talk to Inspector Ellen Kiel in Pearl Islet to enter the instance. After a brief conversation among the NPCs, you will follow them and the dolyak to the ship. Wildlife of Southsun Cove will attack you along the way. The NPCs are sturdy and can tackle most groups by themselves, making the fights not too difficult. Subdirector Noll will cower in combat and won't be attacked by enemies. If an NPC is downed, they will revive automatically once the nearby enemies are cleared. After crossing the bridge you will be attacked by a Reef Rider and Young Reef Riders. Continue down the hill and a Reef Drake with Reef Hatchlings will attack. You will the head north under the bridge and along the beach. Reef Skelk will be encountered at various points along the way. The area opens up into a sandy beach with the ship just ahead and more Reef Skelk scattered around. Don't rush in as you will quickly end up engaging ten or so skelk at once. As you move farther in to the area, a Veteran Reef Drake will join the fight. After clearing the enemies in the area, the group will approach the ship. Watch the short cinematic and following conversation and you are done.

Dialogue[edit]
- At the beginning of the event
- Subdirector Noll: The Consortium took you in, and this is the thanks we get?
- Aggren Vicegrip: You can't keep us here!
- Inspector Ellen Kiel: Okay, all our butts are on the line. And the only way we keep them intact is by working together.
- Inspector Ellen Kiel: Canach wants to destroy every Consortium record on the island, no matter who gets hurt.
- Inspector Ellen Kiel: He calls that "help." I say the only help we need is right here.
- Inspector Ellen Kiel: We can stop this together. Fight for your homes, for your future. Fight because it's the right thing to do.
- Inspector Ellen Kiel: Or, just fight because you don't want to die. Either way, I'm moving out. Who's with me?
- Talking to Inspector Ellen Kiel during the event
- I'll do my duty to ensure that the Consortium gets their contracts off the island safely, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.
- I understand.
- Talking to Aggren Vicegrip during the event
- You know, if Kiel and Marcela weren't keeping such a close eye on me, I'd have arranged a little accident for Noll by now.
- You don't have to. Inspector Kiel definitely has some sort of plan.
- Talking to Marcela Oakaxe during the event
- It hasn't been all bad here. I just wish my mate Aggren could learn to make the best of a rough situation.
- Good luck.
- Talking to Tergvi during the event
- I'd rather be making my mark on the world, but a contract's a contract and I plan to see this through.
- Good luck.
- Talking to Henrika during the event
- I'm glad Kiel let me off easy. Helping Canach was a mistake, but at least now I can make up for it.
- Keep up the good work.
- Talking to Subdirector Noll during the event
- I'll feel better once those contracts are off-island. Speaking of, why aren't you helping to secure out property?
- I'll see what I can do.
- During the event
- Henrika: Finally, something to do.
- Aggren Vicegrip: I'd kill to get off this island. And I'd kill that Noll just for fun.
- Marcela Oakaxe: Gotta say, I've missed taking orders from someone who can actually fight.
- Subdirector Noll: Why don't the settlers show this much verve in their daily work?
- Aggren Vicegrip: Remember when we didn't live here? Those were the days.
- Tergvi: I miss my homestead, but it's gone. So I'm making the best of things here.
- Upon arriving at the ship
- Aggren Vicegrip: We did good. I wonder if we're good enough to fight our way off this rock.
- After the cutscene
- Subdirector Noll: (panicked gurgle) What...what just happened?
- Inspector Ellen Kiel: Oops. Looks like Canach was one step ahead of us after all. What a shame.
- Inspector Ellen Kiel: I'll be filling out forms and giving explanations to my superiors for weeks.
- Inspector Ellen Kiel: Luckily, my Lionguard had orders to clear the ship if anything unexpected happened.
- Inspector Ellen Kiel: And hey! Without those records, the settlers have no more reason to riot. So things aren't all bad.
- Subdirector Noll: I see. You're in serious trouble, Inspector. I advise you to make those explanations very, very good.
- Inspector Ellen Kiel: Thanks, but I'm not worried. Turns out I'm fairly adept at thinking on my feet.
- After the arriving of Captain Magnus
- Inspector Ellen Kiel: I had to improvise to get the results you wanted. But the way is clear for the next month's festival.
- Captain Magnus the Bloody-Handed: Sounds good. I just hope it's good enough to justify the earful I'm going to get from the Consortium.
- Captain Magnus the Bloody-Handed: But Canach's in custody, the settlers are happy, and Noll is furious. I call that a good day's work.
- Inspector Ellen Kiel: Thank you, sir, but there's still a lot to be done here.
- Captain Magnus the Bloody-Handed: That's not your problem. You haven't taken a day off since I've known you. Take three.
- Captain Magnus the Bloody-Handed: Go buy a swimsuit and sit on the beach. Meet somebody. Go dancing. Anything.
- Captain Magnus the Bloody-Handed: Just be something other than a Lionguard for a while. That's an order.
Individual dialogues at the end[edit]
- Inspector Ellen Kiel
- At least it all ended well. The Consortium will have to find a new way to motivate the settlers into joining their work force, and Noll will have a lot of explaining to do.
- Nice work, Inspector.
- Captain Magnus the Bloody-Handed
- Kiel has her own way of doing things, but she's proven herself to me again here. Now let's see if she knows how to relax. A little R&R would do her some good.
- I agree. I just hope Kiel does, too.
- Aggren Vicegrip
- Ha! Did you see the look on Noll's prissy little face? This is the first good day I've had on this stinking island.
- Glad you're enjoying yourself for a change.
- Marcela Oakaxe
- I wonder what this will mean for us. I hope my mate doesn't want to just pull up stakes and move again. I was really starting to enjoy it here.
- Good luck.
- Tergvi
- I didn't notice how much my debt to the Constortium[sic] weighed on me until it was gone. Feels good to be free to make my own way in the world again.
- Good luck.
- Henrika
- I feel even stupider now for listening to Canach. Kiel found a better way to do what Canach was trying to do, and she did it without anyone getting hurt.
- That's why she's in charge around here.
- Subdirector Noll
- Now what am I going to do? I'm ruined! The Lionguard ruined me!
- Such a pity.
