Winter Wonderland is a jumping puzzle style activity that is only available during Wintersday. Players must jump across a precarious path of melting snowflakes, hop over exploding presents, and flee past massive rolling snowballs. Interact with the chest at the end of the puzzle to receive your reward.

Getting there[edit]

Winter Wonderland 02.jpg

The Winter Wonderland can be entered by talking to the Festive Youth in the Crown Pavilion area and selecting the option "Yes, let's do this" or by using the portal on the large peppermint above him. Both the Festive Youth and the portal can be found south of the Crown Pavilion Waypoint.

Mechanics[edit]

The puzzle is instanced content with a limit of 20 players per instance. Being inside the instance counts as being in combat at all times and prevents any gear or template change. Additionally, all skills, effects, pets, minions etc. are disabled (except those granted by the puzzle). All other players are shown as hostile (red labels) but there is no way to attack them.

Players may complete the puzzle as many times as they wish. After each completion players can use a teleporter in the end area to get back to the start of the route the player chose. Dying for any reason will also take the player back to the start.

Players can also use the end teleporter to leave the instance, or leave through one of the Asura gates on the starting platforms.

Each instance will reset after 30 minutes (countdown is shown at the top of the screen). Each time the player arrives at the end of the puzzle a counter will increment at the top of their screen. Before the instance is about to expire a dialog will show player completion rankings, but there is no prize associated with being first.

After the instance reset there is a short cooldown period and a 10 second countdown. The player's character will have its position reset after the cooldown so there's no point in starting the course yet.

There are bonfires on the three starting platforms and a fourth one on the platform near Tixx. Arriving at a bonfire restores their full health. Whenever players are away from a bonfire the Frostbite effect will slowly whittle away at their health until the player dies. The effect will cause players to die in 100 seconds (easy route), 66 seconds (medium), or 55 seconds (hard).

The three different starting platforms offer players a difficulty choice with corresponding rewards:

  • Quaggan Route: The easiest path. Snowflake and peppermint stick platforms no longer disappear here. Health degeneration is slow. Applies the Mini Foostivoo the Merry.png Quaggan Route (Leisurely) buff.
  • Snowman Route: The middle path. Snowflake and peppermint stick platforms disappear slowly. Health degeneration is faster. Applies the Mini Snowman.png Snowman Route (Adventurous) buff.
  • Gingerbread Route: The most difficult path. Snowflake and peppermint stick platforms rapidly disappear. Health degeneration is fastest. Applies the Gingerbread-Man Ice Sculpture.png Gingerbread Route (Intense) buff.
Historical mechanics
  • During Wintersday 2012, players would begin the puzzle at a set interval. Prepare Yourself...for a Jumping Time! would show how much time remained until the next round would start. In the meantime, there were Piles of Snowballs on the ground for players to have snowball fights.
  • Starting with Wintersday 2017 a "present" could be taken from Tixx and opened for an immediate reward, delivered to the children at the end of the puzzle for a greater reward, or forgone completely to activate the "checkpoint." If the player failed to complete the jumping puzzle after accepting the present for delivery, nothing was gained. If the player chose the checkpoint feature it only worked once; it would return you to Tixx the first time, provided you had not completed the puzzle yet, but to the starting area after that.
  • The three different difficulty levels were added in the 2017 Wintersday release, until then all paths had the same effects.

Walkthrough[edit]

Reward[edit]

  • Magnificent Chest, once per completion.
    • The chest grants 8 Wintersday Gifts for the Quaggan Route, 10 Wintersday Gifts for the Snowman Route, or 12 Wintersday Gifts for the Gingerbread Route.
    • The chest also grants 1000 Karma and 2540 Experience, regardless of the route taken.
    • The first three interactions with the chest every day reward an additional 5000 Karma (delivered as bonus chests) and 2540 Experience.
    • Opening the chest counts as puzzle completion toward achievements.
  • Prizes are only awarded and achievements only fulfilled if the player interacts with the chest explicitly. Arriving at the end of the puzzle increases the counter at the top of the screen but does not, by itself, award anything.

Notes[edit]

The hidden area above the reward chest.
  • Karmic Enrichment does not increase the amount of karma gained upon opening the reward chest.
  • Players who idle for two minutes are kicked out of the instance.
  • Upon arriving at the end area, if you turn around and jump behind the box you came out of, there is a series of steps that will take you to a big red star. There doesn't seem to be any purpose to this mini jumping puzzle, though it gives the player a nice view of the jumping course.
  • You may explore most areas of the puzzle freely as long as you don't fall off and before you're killed by the Frostbite effect. Some areas, however, such as the towers in the snowflake stage, will kill you when you land on them.
  • The graphical interface reuses the PvP layout, showing the other players and their health on the top-left of the screen, your completions at the top as your "score", as well as the countdown for the instance. The right-hand "enemy" score has no purpose and will always show zero.

Trivia[edit]

  • Since Wintersday 2013 players are allowed to start the puzzle whenever they wish, and three different paths are available for the first segment.
