Walkthrough[edit]
Approach the mourning Gairwen to initiate some dialogue. She informs you that the Risen won't let her bury her beloved in peace as they keep attacking her. She asks for your help in defending her beloved's grave. Gairwen will supply you with seeds you can plant and use as decoys and point of attack. I suggest planting them near the grave, where Gairwen can help you defend the plants. Try to force the mobs into a choking point and depending on your character's profession, use the plants as tanks or as shields. Either defend them by distracting the mobs or let the mobs concentrate of the plants while you take them out. There will be three waves of attackers. You have time to replant the seeds between each, but don't lose time. Make sure you are ready when the Risen approach. The final wave will contain a Veteran Risen. I suggest you dispatch every other foe before taking it on.
When it is defeated, speak with Gairwen.

Dialogue[edit]
Approaching Gairwen:
- Gairwen: My dear beloved Evart. You deserve better than this, but at least here, you will be hidden from the villain that killed you.
- Gairwen: May your memories spread among the Dream, and may your noble spirit return, through the awakening of others.
- Gairwen: I will defend your grave with my life, if I must. If I should fall, at least I will see you once more.
Speaking with Gairwen (Cinematic):
- <Character name>: Excuse me, are you Gairwen? I need to speak with you about a sylvari named Bercilak.
- Gairwen: Bercilak? He is a beast! He killed my beloved Evart. If you are his friend, you are an enemy to me.
- <Character name>: Just the opposite. Bercilak is attacking young sylvari in the Grove, and I plan to stop him before anyone else gets hurt.
- Gairwen: Oh! That's very different. You see, my love was killed in a duel with Bercilak, and now I guard Evart's grave.
- Gairwen: I wish only to mourn, but Bercilak plagues me with his lovesick mewling. I buried Evart here, to get away from Bercilak—but even here in Morgan's Spiral, I can find no peace.
- Gairwen: The Risen are everywhere, those horrible undead creatures. Even now, they're massing to swarm over this hill.
- <Character name>: Bercilak is killing innocents. I must find a way to defeat him—to overcome whatever trickery has made him powerful. If you help me find a way, I'll help you defend Evart's grave.
- Gairwen: You would? Oh, thank you! Yes, I'll gladly tell you everything I know. You see, Bercilak's armor—wait, do you hear that? Oh, no, the Risen are coming! Quickly, prepare to fight!
After the cinematic:
- Gairwen: The Risen are massing at Morgan's Spiral. We should use these seeds to fortify our location before they arrive.
Speaking with Gairwen:
- Gairwen: I have seed plants. Plant them and they'll defend us. When these are gone, I'll make more.
- What are seed plants?
- Wonderful protectors! They grow right away and help us fight the Risen.
- How do they work?
- Mortar plants fire damaging thorns. Trap plants slow down or poison the enemy.
- That does sound useful. How do I use them again?
- I'll take a mortar seed plant.
- I'll take a trap seed plant.
- I'm ready to fight the Risen. Let's go!
Interacting with the Fertile Soil:
- Fertile Soil: This looks like a great place to grow a mortar seed plant, don't you think? How about a thornberry?
- Place a mortar seed plant here. (only when holding a plant seed)
- I'm looking for something else. Let's move on.
- Fertile Soil: Look at this. Perfect soil for a healing plant like martyr's vine. Should we plant one?
- Place a healing seed plant here. (only when holding a plant seed)
- I'm looking for something else. Let's move on.
- Fertile Soil: Look! We could put a poison trellis here—one of the trap plants. Think so?
- Place a poison trap seed plant here. (only when holding a plant seed)
- You plant one here, Gairwen. I'll move on to the next. (only when Gairwen has additional plant seeds available)
- I'm looking for something else. Let's move on.
The first wave:
- Gairwen: Undead to the east. Be ready!
- Gairwen: Keep the undead busy while I prepare more seed plants.
- Gairwen: The defenses are working!
Before the next wave:
- Gairwen: The seeds are ready! Remember, the enemy could come from either side. Stay alert!
The second wave
- Gairwen: You will not befoul my Evart's place of rest. Begone, foul Risen!
- Gairwen: There, to the west. More undead.
- Gairwen: Give me a moment. I need to prepare more seed-plants.
Before the next wave:
- Gairwen: Here are more seeds. Plant them quickly.
The final wave:
- Gairwen: Oh, Evart, how I miss your counsel. Even in such dark moments, you could always lift my spirits.
- Gairwen: That's the last of the seeds. Now, we fight on our own.
After defeating the final wave:
- Gairwen: Victory! I am so relieved. Speak with me, Valiant, and let me help you with your task.
- Gairwen cheers for <Character name>.
Speaking with Gairwen (Cinematic):
- Gairwen: There. My love can now rest easy, protected from the undead. As for Bercilak, he was always an exceptional fighter, but recently...he's grown invincible.
- Gairwen: After he slew Evart, my grief compelled me to duel him myself—and I lost. Instead of killing me, he demanded my pledge, insisting that I forget my true love.
- Gairwen: I could never find joy with a soulless tormentor like Bercilak. I'd sooner die and be laid to rest beside my dearest.
- <Character name>: (sigh) How do you think Bercilak became so powerful?
- Gairwen: It's got to be his new armor. There's something different, something magical about it. It was forged by Occam, a smith near Brigid's Overlook.
- <Character name>: Then I'm off to find Occam. Thank you. It was an honor to fight at your side.
Speaking to Gairwen:
- Gairwen: Thank you for your assistance, Valiant. Sorry I was short with you—not a good first impression, I'm sure.
- I appreciate your kind words. Farewell.
- Be well, Gairwen.
It's understandable, given your recent loss. I forgive you. Hopefully, the pain will pass.
- He's a cruel beast. He's taken away my love, and now wants to take awaymy freedom.
- I'll stop him before that happens. I promise.
You had every right to be suspicious. Bercilak is plaguing you.
- I appreciate your concern, but I am not yet ready to say good-bye to my love. Leave me in peace, please.
- Very well, it's your decision. Be safe, and perhaps we'll meet again.
Your life is in danger if you remain here. It would be better for you to leave this place.
- I know you're suffering, but I want to ask you something else.
- I owe you that much—and more. Ask away.
- Can you tell me more about your lost love?
- Evart was generous and brave, full of life. We were going to travel the world—until Bercilak came along.
- How did Bercilak get involved?
- Bercialk courted me, but I said "It will never be!" In his jealousy, he cut down my dear Evart like winter firewood.
- [sic] A tragedy. May I ask another question?
- I'm sorry for your loss. I'll leave you to mourn.
- Can you tell me more about Bercilak? (same as below)
- Can you tell me more about Bercilak?
- He's of the Cycle of Noon, but lately he's been training with those scoundrels of the Nightmare Court.
- The Nightmare Court?
- Wicked and vile sylvari who reject the teachings of Ventari's Tablet.
- [sic] They sound like evil folk. May I ask another question?
- Thank you for explaining. Be safe out here.
- Those seed plants were marvelous!
- I'm sorry for your loss. I'll leave you to mourn.
