Walkthrough[edit]
Read the letter from Rama.
Waypoint to Promenade Waypoint — at Kaineng docks to speak with Taimi and Gorrik. Pick an ally to bring on your dinner date.
Speak to your dinner date:
- Ayumi - Arborstone Waypoint — : At the southeast exit to Echovald Wilds.
- Canach - Club Canach Waypoint — : Down the stairs to the right of the bar with Winn Schwartzmeier. He is in a room with a fireplace.
- Yao - Lutgardis Plaza Waypoint — : Over the river to the east and up the stairs towards Sunjiang Lab — . They are standing on the same platform as the upper gate to the lab.
Return to New Kaineng, this time choosing Ministry Ward Waypoint — . Take the zip-line south of the waypoint to ascend to the Soojung Heights, and then head for Red Duck Tea House.
Inside the instance, talk to your date, then head inside the dinner venue and sit at the table. At a point in the dialogue, Taimi will whisper you on her communicator to cause a distraction to dig Rama out of a hole he's trapped himself in - pick any of the three new skills provided.
When the dialogue wraps up, choose the Ask for the Check skill to trigger the last dialogue, completing the instance. The skills Chow Down and Sip don't affect the story outcome.

Dialogue[edit]
Mail[edit]
- Message from Rama
Rama A Favor Hey, Commander, Long time no see. Got a favor to ask. Since we're done dealing in demons (thank gods), I thought I'd give the whole Red Duck Teahouse get-together another go. Fine, I'll level with you. Truth is, I ask Min to dinner at the teahouse. But the closer it gets, the more I worry I'll screw the whole thing up. For as much BS as you all drag me into, I think having a few friends there would help things go a lot smoother. Gorrik and Taimi have already agreed to show. If you wouldn't mind swinging by for a bit, I'd appreciate it. Hopefully see you soon,—Rama |
New Kaineng (open world)[edit]
- Approaching Gorrik and Taimi, after reading Detective Rama's letter
- Gorrik: Such a good idea! She's very nice!
- Taimi: And her plumage is just gorgeous!
- Gorrik: Commander! Perfect timing. You read Rama's letter?
- <Character name>: Sounds like he needs some support with this whole Min situation.
- Taimi: Luckily, he has us to back him up. Gorrik and I will be there to help. Although, we were thinking...
- Gorrik: It might be nice if you also had someone to bring with you...
- <Character name>: Oh?
- Taimi: Since we're pressed for time, we decided to take some initiative, and...
- Gorrik: Reached out to some local friends to see if they're busy tonight.
- <Character name>: You didn't.
- Gorrik: Don't worry, Commander! There's no pressure whatsoever. We're just there to have a good time and to help Rama.
- Talking to Gorrik
- Gorrik: All right, Commander. You have some fine choices here. Who will you bring?
- Choose Canach.
- Great choice, Commander. Head over to Club Canach to meet up with Canach.
- Will do.
- Choose Yao.
- Great choice, Commander. Head over to Sunjiang Lab to meet up with Yao.
- Will do.
- Choose Ayumi.
- Great choice, Commander. Head over to Arborstone to meet up with Ayumi.
- Will do.
Intermediate dialogue (open world)[edit]
Arborstone (if you chose Canach)[edit]
- Canach: To what do I owe the pleasure, Commander?
- <Character name>: Looking for some excitement? How would you like to—
- Canach: Yes I am, and yes I would. Where are we going and what are we doing?
- <Character name>: Didn't Gorrik tell you—
- Canach: Actually, never mind. More exciting if I don't know. Just how exciting—
- <Character name>: (laughs) Hey now, we're going to help Rama. With Min.
- Canach: Of course, of course.
- <Character name>: Shall we?
Looking for some excitement? How would you like to—
- Canach: I thought you'd never ask. Already picked out my suit. What do you think?
- <Character name>: Looking very sharp.
- Canach: Naturally. Sorry about your poor friends, though.
- <Character name>: Poor friends?
- Canach: Well, we're obviously going to upstage them. Look at us. We're stunning.
- <Character name>: (laughs) Let's knock 'em dead.
Cancel your plans. You're having dinner with me tonight.
Sunjiang Lab (if you chose Yao)[edit]
- Yao: What can I do for you, Commander?
- Yao: Yeah, Gorrik said you might need some backup... I'd be more than happy to help you. And Rama.
- <Character name>: He really needs it, doesn't he?
- Yao: For being so confident most of the time, Rama sure does get awkward when Min comes up.
- <Character name>: Nothing wrong with a little awkwardness, so long as we steer him clear of total disaster!
Can I get your help again, Yao? There'll be sushi this time!
- Yao: Ha, no kidding. Don't know if I've seen you NOT yelling and waving a weapon around.
- <Character name>: (laughs) You any good at making small talk and waving utensils around?
- Yao: Hmm, that's a lot of pressure. But I think I could handle it.
- <Character name>: I'd like to see that. Meet me at the Red Duck?
- Yao: Absolutely. Wouldn't miss it.
Yao! It's great to see you without a crisis involved!
Arborstone (if you chose Ayumi)[edit]
- Ayumi: What can I do for you, Commander?
- Ayumi: Great to see you too! Gorrik says you need a dinner date, hmm?
- <Character name>: Well, I don't know if I'd call it a date, exactly...
- Ayumi: Sure thing, Commander. I'll be your wingwoman. Get it? Wingwoman?
- <Character name>: Heh. Yes. Yes, I do. Have any more jokes you can tell me on the way?
Ayumi! Great to see you! I have a favor to ask.
- Ayumi: Ah, these old things? Just a few hours of preening. Good thing Taimi let me know you were coming.
- Ayumi: Of course, I can't compete with your sense of style. Maybe you can give me some fashion tips sometime, eh?
- <Character name>: (laughs) I like to have options. I have to cover all those battle scars.
- Ayumi: (laughs) Got some good ones? I bet mine are better!
- <Character name>: Maybe we'll have to compare sometime? For now, let's get going.
Wow, your feathers, stunning! Any chance you'd join me at the Red Duck?
Full Circle: Red Duck Tea House (instance)[edit]
- Approaching Taimi and Gorrik
- Taimi: We're all here now. Perfect. It's showtime!
- Talking to your dinner date and following them into the Tea House
- Canach: Shall we, Commander?
- <Character name>: Canach, glad you made it. How's life?
- Canach: Ah, you know. Business is booming. I'm filthy rich. Arborstone is the new capital of Canthan nightlife...
- Canach: But a change of scenery does the entrepreneurial mind good. As does company of your caliber.
Let's help out our pal!
- <Character name>: Canach, don't you look dapper.
- Canach: I could say the same for you, Commander. You pull off the whole "badass with a noble cause" look flawlessly.
Let's turn some heads!
- Yao: Shall we, Commander?
- <Character name>: Good to see you, Yao. Get a chance to rest?
- Yao: No rest when you work for Xunlai. Especially with the new Jade discovery. We're just getting going on research.
- Yao: After some surprisingly amicable negotiations with the Brotherhood, I have to say. But I won't bore you with work talk.
Let's help out our pal!
- <Character name>: Long time no see, Yao. You look refreshed.
- Yao: I do? I don't know if I feel refreshed. But you're looking a lot better too!
- Yao: Um, not that you looked bad before, but...you know what I mean. Heh.
Let's turn some heads!
- Ayumi Shall we, Commander?
- <Character name>: Glad you could make it, Ayumi. Means a lot.
- Ayumi: Don't mention it, Commander. It's been too long since we've caught up.
- Ayumi: And I've been meaning to try this place, anyway. Heard the sushi's phenomenal.
Let's help out our pal!
- <Character name>: Looking lovely as always, Ayumi.
- Ayumi: Likewise, Commander. We should do this more often. Well, minus the wingman-ing.
Let's turn some heads!
- Approaching Detective Rama and Min
- Detective Rama: Commander, over here!
- Min: Well look who it is. It's been a while, Commander. Glad you both could make it.
- Taking a seat
- Gorrik: You look lovely, Taimi!
- Taimi: Oh, Gorrik, this is what I always look like!
- Gorrik: Well...exactly.
- Taimi: Oh, stoooooop. I mean, you can also keep going, but...ya know, you're not so hard on the eyes yourself.
- Gorrik: Oh? Oh!
- Waiter approaches
- Waiter: You people again! Do you know how long it took me to clean up your confetti last time? I find it in my dreams!
- Waiter: We do have a "no-seat" list, you know, so try acting civilized. Or your name will be right there next to Park Chul-Moo!
- (If you chose Canach as your dinner date)
- Canach: Canach. Namesake and visionary behind Arborstone's famous Club Canach. Positively charmed.
- Min: Minister of Security Min.
- Canach: Are you named after the ministry, or is the ministry named after you? You're with the authorities?
- Min: I am the authorities. Though I don't get out to Arborstone much.
- Canach: I wouldn't recommend it. Nothing to see out there. Boring, really.
- Canach: Who's hungry? Waiter! What must a person do to get service around here? This would never happen at my establishment.
- (If you chose Yao as your dinner date)
- Yao: I'll have to ask him about that...
- Yao: Minister of Security Min. A pleasure.
- Min: Keeping your nose clean these days? Bit different than your time with the Brotherhood...
- Detective Rama: Yao is good people, Min. The best. Saved my life. More than once.
- Yao: Or at least my mech did. (laughs)
- Detective Rama: I said I was sorry! Where is Finn, anyway? I owe him a drink!
- Min: And how about something for you, Yao? Like sushi?
- Yao: A lot more than Rama does.
- (If you chose Ayumi as your dinner date)
- Ayumi: Minister Min! Pleasure to see you!
- Min: Acting Minister, technically. Leader Ayumi, is it? Seems we both fell into our jobs.
- Ayumi: Good point! Although...your title's officially unofficial. And mine's unofficially official.
- Min: I...I'm not sure if... What?
- Ayumi: We're going to be great friends! We have so much in common! So, when's the food coming?
- Waiter: Here. You may want to at least try it this time. The Lover's Maki takes twice as long to prepare, you know.
- Min: Huh? I thought you hated sushi?
- Detective Rama: I do. It's just that last time I thought you might be stopping by, so I ordered it because...it made me think of you.
- Min: Sushi made you think of me? Because you hate it?
- Detective Rama: No, no, no—
- Min: Is this heart shaped?
- Taimi: (fake coughing)
- Gorrik: Although anatomically incorrect. Min, did you know the actual shape of the human heart resembles a closed fist?
- Min: Oh... That's... Huh...
- Taimi: Pssst. Commander, do something! Get us off the sushi topic.
- Upon causing a distraction by Point in a Random Direction (chose skill option 1)
- <Character name>: Hey, what's that over there?
- Detective Rama: Believe that's a wall, Commander.
- <Character name>: How strange. Swear I saw Empress Ihn walk by.
- Taimi: Me too! How bizarre is that?
- Detective Rama: Extremely.
- Min: She's overseas right now. Didn't you hear about her visiting Divinity's Reach?
- Gorrik: We haven't kept up with the news for the past few weeks.
- Upon causing a distraction by Break Your Glass (chose skill option 2)
- <Character name>: Wh-whoops. How clumsy of me.
- Waiter: Are you kidding me?
- (If you chose Canach as your dinner date)
- Canach: A dolyak in a jade shop, this one. Graceful on the battlefield, yet so little finesse when it comes to the finer things.
- (If you chose Yao as your dinner date)
- Yao: Maybe we need to have Minister Min here investigate the caffeine content of this tea and see if it exceeds regulations!
- (If you chose Ayumi as your dinner date)
- Ayumi: Oh, heavens! I hope you didn't get any stains on that fine outfit. I know how much fashion means to you.
- Ayumi: In fact, I've always wanted to ask: Do you have the largest wardrobe in all of Tyria?
- Upon causing a distraction by Bust a Move (chose skill option 3)
- <Character name>: Does anyone else suddenly feel like dancing?
- Detective Rama: Absolutely not.
- (If you chose Canach as your dinner date)
- Canach: You're on fire! Save some of those moves for my place, would you?
- (If you chose Yao as your dinner date)
- Yao: Yeah! Cut loose, Commander!
- (If you chose Ayumi as your dinner date)
- Ayumi: Wooooo!
- Waiter: Excuse me; this is a teahouse, not a dance club. Would you please refrain from flailing about? It's a safety hazard.
- <Character name>: Dancing is a safety hazard?
- Waiter: The way you go about it, yes.
- Taimi: Don't sweat it, Commander. Your moves are great! Some people are just allergic to fun.
- Resuming the dinner date
- Min: So...anyway... Rama tells me you're doing PI work these days?
- Gorrik: That's correct! We're pioneering our new detective agency and just wrapped up our first case.
- Min: That's neat! What's your agency called?
- Detective Rama: Uhhh—
- Gorrik: Actually, I wanted to bring that up. I got a little ahead of myself with the agency and filing the paperwork and...
- Gorrik: Well, I chose "Friends' Detectives" because it was an agency founded by friends and it made perfect sense...
- Min: Oh.
- Gorrik: But when I stopped and thought about it, I realized that me picking the name for us misses the whole "friendship" part.
- Gorrik: Then I got another idea. I ran it by Jory, and she loves it! But I'd like your input before I proceed with it, Rama.
- Detective Rama: Let's hear it.
- Gorrik: Brim and Scarab. See, the "Scarab" is an obvious homage to my love of beetles. And the "Brim" refers to your hat.
- Gorrik: I also proposed "Big Hat Detectives," but Jory was concerned the name wouldn't be taken seriously.
- Detective Rama: I...I really like it. It's got sort of an old-timey feel to it. In a good way. And it's really thoughtful.
- Min: It's classy. And sweet. “Rama here. Brim & Scarab's on the case.”
- Detective Rama: I'm sold.
- Chatting with your allies at the dinner party, prior to asking for the check
- Chat with Gorrik:
- Gorrik: Enjoying yourself, Commander? I know I am!
- Your name suggestion for the agency was very thoughtful.
- Thank you! I was more careful about considering everyone's tastes this time around...
- It shows. Great work, Detective.
- Normally, I'd never let anyone "set me up" like this, but you chose well.
- Well of course, Commander! Who knows you better than Taimi and I do? Well, depending on how things go, perhaps "someone else" might get to know you quite well.
- Don't push it.
- Taimi's been checking you out this whole time...
- Oh! You know, I thought I detected an uptick in eye contact. I'll be sure to return the favor over dessert.
- I'm sure she'll be flattered.
- Chat with Taimi:
- Taimi: Commander, I think it's working. Rama and Min seem very cozy. Did you catch those sultry glances? Hmmm?
- (chuckles) True. I think this will work out well for them.
- And what about your sultry glances at Gorrik? Hmmm?
- Oh, Commander. But really, do you think he noticed?
- Ummm...yes. In fact, I'm sure of it...
- Chat with Rama:
- Detective Rama: Be straight with me, Commander. How am I doing?
- I think Min's enjoying herself.
- Really? Whew. I have a few jokes prepped in case there's an awkward silence. Think I should—
- No. Er, don't overthink it. You're doing great.
- I bet Min would be even more impressed if you overcame your hatred of sushi.
- One challenge at a time, Commander.
- Fair enough.
- Chat with Min:
- Min: Happy you made it, Commander. Glad you're keeping Rama busy.
- Speaking of busy, how are things at the ministry?
- They're...busy. (sigh) Even we're feeling some stress from this whole energy fiasco.
- Hopefully some good will come from our findings.
- Oh, I'm sure of it. Just need to get past some bureaucratic hurdles. And there's always...
- Paperwork?
- Hah! You've really gotten the hang of how things work around here.
- Best of luck.
- Do you ever mock Li in his prison cell just for a pick-me-up?
- Heh. Sadly, that's against code. Do I still daydream about it once in a while? Well, no reason to incriminate myself...
- (chuckles) Understood.
- Chat with Your Partner:
- Ayumi/Yao/Canach: Having fun, Commander?
- I...I am. Hm. This is nice. Maybe I should get out more...
- You get out plenty! Just make sure you schedule in some fun while you're out there.
- Noted.
- Well, it's better than fending off demons. For the most part...
- This is called "relaxing." Normal people do it all the time. Give it a try!
- Noted.
- Asking for the check (upon which the scenery fades to black and you find yourself outside the Tea House talking to your allies)
- <Character name>: I had a great time tonight. Thanks for coming out.
- (If you chose Canach as your dinner date)
- Canach: The pleasure's all mine. If you ever need someone to wine and dine again, do let me know.
- (If you chose Yao as your dinner date)
- Yao: This was so much fun! More importantly, I think Min had fun. Happy to help!
- (If you chose Ayumi as your dinner date)
- Ayumi: Oh, of course! If you're in the area again anytime soon, be sure to say hi.
- Min: I had a great time tonight.
- Detective Rama: Really?
- Min: Of course! Your friends are a lot of fun.
- Min: And very well dressed.
- Detective Rama: They're good people. A little eccentric, but we've all got our quirks. I feel like I can be myself around them.
- Detective Rama: After the whole Li...disaster, it's been tough to feel comfortable with people. But I trust them. And I trust you.
- Min: That jerk got what he deserved, but I know it hasn't been easy for you. I'm always here for you. Always will be.
- Detective Rama: Thanks, Min. Hey, uh...you wouldn't be interested in doing this again sometime...would you?
- Min: Absolutely. Next time, how 'bout it's just us?
- Detective Rama: That sounds fantastic. I look forward to it.
- Min: Me too.
- Optional dialogue triggered by talking to each of your allies
- Gorrik: Do you think Taimi noticed I wore my best glasses?
- Sure. She's very observant.
- (sighs dreamily) Isn't she?
- Good to see you two happy together.
- Taimi: Totally wasn't eavesdropping on Rama and Min... But if I was...I'd say this was a success!
- Nice to see people happy together.
- (sighs dreamily) Isn't it? And how about you, Commander? How are you doing?
- I'm doing...better. Not perfect, but...things take time.
- They do. But... you've got time. And friends to spend it with.
- Makes all the difference.
- Detective Rama: Commander, you weren't eavesdropping on my conversation with Min just now?
- Me? Eavesdrop...? You got me. Congrats on the second date.
- I knew it! But also...thanks.
- Always happy to help a friend.
- Min: Nice of you to grab the check, Commander. You're a class act.
- So...pretty thoughtful of Rama to set up this get-together, huh?
- Sure was. Ya know, he downplays it, but...he's a bit of a hopeless romantic.
- "Romantic," you say?
- I do say.
- Interesting...
- (If you chose Canach as your dinner date)
- Canach: Commander, I must admit, I've dined in the company of many, but you just may be the best of the bunch.
- Wow. That's high praise. I'm having a wonderful time, too.
- Well, it's certainly quality over quantity when it comes to this sort of thing. And you, my friend, are very much the former.
- Am I blushing?
- Well, glad I stand out, I guess...
- Oh, Commander, you couldn't blend in if you wanted to. You were born to turn heads. And to make them roll! Depending on the occasion, I suppose...
- Thank you?
- (If you chose Yao as your dinner date)
- Yao: Commander, I have a confession... I've never been on a date before...even as a friend...
- I'd have never guessed. Just glad you joined me. I'm having a great time.
- Aww, me too! And it was a nice way to take my mind off things. You're a blast to hang out with. Even when we're not saving the world.
- Could say the same for you, Yao.
- That's okay, Yao. I don't exactly do this type of thing often myself.
- It was a nice way to take my mind off things. And hey, I'm glad we can be awkward at this together.
- (chuckles) Strength in numbers.
- (If you chose Ayumi as your dinner date)
- Ayumi: Oh, Commander, I've had some nights out that were a real snooze. But at this rate, I might not roost 'til dawn! You're a riot!
- You're no wallflower yourself! Have any go-to spots in Echovald?
- Oh, a few. And this new club just opened up. Been looking for someone to try it out with...
- Heh, think I know the one. Might have to take you up on that.
- Why, thank you. But I bet they'd ban us permanently if we stayed that late.
- Quork! Party poopers. Well, it's an outing I'll remember, that's for sure!
- (chuckles) Same here, Ayumi.
- Nah, I'm good.
- Waiter: Oh, it's you. What do you want now?
- Thanks for tolerating us. I know our group can get a little rowdy.
- (coughs) Complete understatement. (coughs)
- What was that?
- Nothing. Nothing at all.
- Uh, all right then...
My story[edit]

Notes[edit]
- Players must now unlock Club Canach before inviting Canach to dinner.[1]
Trivia[edit]
- If Yao is present at the date, their mech can be seen at the front gate of Red Duck Tea House, flirting with one of the Veteran Deluxe Jade Detainers, doing various emotes and showing heart particles together.
