“If you put the minds of the Brotherhood on the problem, we'll have it solved in minutes.
— Chul-Moo
Park Chul-Moo[1] is the leader of the new Jade Brotherhood. Coming from one of the wealthiest Canthan families as the son of the influential Matron Park, he was the co-founder of Yu Joon's dragonjade company.[2] However, they eventually had a fallout as Chul-Moo had started proposing less ethical ideas, to which Joon was very opposed. He is very charismatic and a great businessman.[3] He has a soft spot for ex-Brotherhood member Zhou Yao.[4]
Biography[edit]
Early years[edit]
Park Chul-Moo was born to Matron Park who led one of the wealthiest Canthan families. He eventually became the co-founder of Yu Joon's dragonjade company in 1829 CC.[5] However, ultimately they had a fallout as Chul-Moo had started proposing less ethical ideas, to which Joon was very opposed. He went as far as calling her a "visionless husk of a woman with a stick lodged so high up her rear end, it's a wonder she can bend at the waist."[6]
Frustrated Chul-Moo founded the new Jade Brotherhood in 1833 CC,[6] taking the name from the infamous gang that had reigned in Cantha's past. The Brotherhood began scavenging tech from Joon's Xunlai Jade, repurposing it for their use as well as selling knockoff, cheaper copies to Canthan families that could not afford the more reliable but more expensive Xunlai Jade tech. The Brotherhood established a base of operations within The Echovald Wilds, leading them into a new gang war with the ruthless nature-preserving Speakers led by the warden Tetra Earthcall.
After Yao had defected from the gang and Brotherhood agent Renho spotted them working for Xunlai Jade in New Kaineng, the agent informed Chul-Moo about it and asked for his permission to eliminate Yao before the kid could spill the Brotherhood's trade secrets. However, Chul-Moo insisted that the agents simply watch and monitor Yao's actions for the time being and warned that if Yao came to any harm, the person responsible would see it returned threefold.[4]
Even after Chul-Moo became a wanted criminal who could not set foot in New Kaineng or he would be arrested on sight, Matron Park kept trying to contact him via his right-hand woman Marii. The matron asked Chul-Moo to attend his cousin Aiya's wedding and reminded him that he should never have left Xunlai Jade and gone to the wrong side of the law.[2]
End of Dragons[edit]
Act III[edit]
Act V[edit]
During the dragonvoid outbreak, Chul-Moo and the Jade Brotherhood supported Captain Fa's fire team on the western prong of the assault on the Harvest Temple, ultimately leading to a coordinated offensive against the corrupted Elder Dragon Soo-Won.[7] Chul-Moo's forces consisted of "fearless and elite" members of the Jade Brotherhood—not including Brotherhood Scrapper Doh.[8]
At some point after the Battle for the Jade Sea, the Jade Brotherhood resumed a mining operation in Gyala Delve, where they discovered Ley-Infused Jade[9]. After some time, Chul-Moo contacted Yao to inform them that some of the Brotherhood miners had gone missing while others were acting strangely aggressive.[10] During the following investigation by the Commander and the Friend's Detective Agency, Chul-Moo was attacked by Jin-Lee, a member of the Jade Brotherhood driven mad by the mysterious Haze. Despite Yao's encouragement, Chul-Moo remained reluctant to venture deeper into the mines to rescue his men[11], instead relying on adventurers to help maintain order and reclaim territory throughout Gyala Delve. During this time, Chul-Moo remained at Jadepillar Point Base while Yao and their allies progressed deeper into the mines.[12]
It was discovered that at the depths of the Brotherhood mine, a supposedly-unkillable demon feeds upon a ley-line, known as the Ravenous Wanderer. This demon preys upon emotional vulnerability, and its influence is responsible for driving Chul-Moo's men to madness.
Emboldened, Chul-Moo coordinates an offensive to rally the Brotherhood and drive the Ravenous Wanderer to the surface using siege turtles. Upon driving the demon to the surface and sealing the passage, Chul-Moo and his allies employed a Jade Behemoth against the Ravenous Wanderer.[13] This would prove to be only a temporary solution, however.
In an attempt to properly lure and defeat the Ravenous Wanderer, the Commander took up the Recollector, a device that allowed them to revisit and capture the emotional energy of past memories.[14] Chul-Moo met with the Commander at Blazeridge Steppes, where there the two confronted the Commander's remorse over the death of Cinder Steeltemper. Here, Chul-Moo sympathized with the Commander's burden, offering encouragement.[15] After testing the Recollector's capabilities, Taimi and the Commander concluded that their supplies were insufficient in luring the demon. Chul-Moo offered his help by providing Brotherhood supplies, in hopes that something useful might be found. Among the supplies was a Kurzick rune (of questionable legality) which Rama believes can be used to seal the caves once the demon was lured away from the ley-line.[16]
With the plan in motion, Chul-Moo joined the Commander and their allies in luring the Ravenous Wanderer, much like before, except now equipped with the Kurzick Rune. Under the demon's influence, Chul-Moo was tormented by his own anguish and fears. Distorted memories of Yao, Binna, Jin-Lee, and Mal-Chin are turned against Chul-Moo. The Commander and their allies, especially Yao, protect and encourage Chul-Moo. As Chul-Moo and the Commander progress deeper into the caves, Chul-Moo's earlier memories of Yao are revealed, showing Chul-Moo's fatherly, caring (albeit rough) nature.[17] Chul-Moo aids the Commander and their allies in subduing the Ravenous Wanderer for good.
