dont permaban ips, they get reassigned and shit, 3 months is usually enough if its repeat offense -Auron 10:53, 23 October 2014 (UTC)
- Sure sure, no one told me how long the usual ban should be, so I thought might as well ban them to the abyss. What's the rule for generic spambots? --Ventriloquist 10:55, 23 October 2014 (UTC)
- Obvious one-shot spam bots get a day (it’s unlikely they return anyway). If you expect them to try again, make it 3 days. If it’s a repeated offense, increase the length to weeks and months. For user accounts, perma-ban them only when it’s clear that they were obviously created solely for harm. poke | talk 11:07, 23 October 2014 (UTC)

Legendary Skeletal Lich
It actually was a bug last year, I left it on the page because I wasn't entirely sure if it had been fixed. However, I haven't seen the bug occur so far this year so it may no longer be relevant anyway. -Somohexual (talk) 23:15, 27 October 2014 (UTC)

since i noticed a few inadvertent rollbacks recently...
If the rollback links in RC are bothering you, this will hide them:
.mw-changeslist .mw-rollback-link { display: none; }
I did this myself when we first got rollback on GuildWiki, although here I've adapted to having them around. You have to go to an article's history page to actually perform a rollback, but just think of that as a safety valve. —Dr Ishmael 21:28, 12 November 2014 (UTC)
- Heh, I kinda knew you'd notice that and post a workaround. Thanks, I'll definitely do that since I rarely have to do a complete rollback, and in most cases I want to be sure of the entire page history, so it's not really an inconvenience. Guess I scroll too much on the right... --Ventriloquist 21:32, 12 November 2014 (UTC)
Future edit summary confusion
You provided a detailed edit summary for this [1] edit on Tonna and then wrote "Same" on the following [2] edit on Demolitionist Strixel. Anyone reading Recent Changes will understand what you meant, but if someone later on is just checking the history of the second page, they won't know what "Same" refers to. (There's probably a better way to link to edit diffs but, alas, I don't know it.) --Cali (talk) 12:31, 20 November 2014 (UTC)
- Ack, that's a bad habit that I'm trying to get rid off; hopefully nothing too confusing will occur. Thanks for the notice, though! --Ventriloquist 12:40, 20 November 2014 (UTC)

Why upload a new image? Dont' worry, I'm not offended or anything, lol. I just don't understand why it needed a new image, it seemed fine as-is to me. :o -Somohexual (talk) 16:15, 22 November 2014 (UTC)
- Well, it's an official image from the release page, which means it's made in the highest possible quality. Also, it is more zoomed in, in an idle position and the neck/some parts of the body are not obscured by other parts. It's just a perfectionism thing, I guess. --Ventriloquist 17:33, 22 November 2014 (UTC)
- Makes sense, thanks for clarifying. :3 -Somohexual (talk) 19:53, 22 November 2014 (UTC)

Thanks #2
Thanks for updating Amerin's vendor table. I tried to figure out how to use a template, but couldn't find information on how to use a template for only specific items like you did! Ikarus (talk) 14:13, 4 December 2014 (UTC)
- No problem. Using templates can be a bit tricky for new users, and I sure as hell didn't understand it way back when; when you're in doubt, always check for an already-made page and use it as a reference. It makes things much more simpler! --Ventriloquist 20:59, 4 December 2014 (UTC)
Your recent corrections
Hi, I noticed that you just corrected Veteran Unstable Ooze. A couple of questions.
Notes -> Notes, I had it corrected the other way round recently on another page. I thought one note = "Note" and multiple = "Notes". Ditto, changing Locations to Location seems to be taking the diametrically opposite approach. Why not change Combat abilities to Combat ability as there is only one listed.
I guess you couldn't resist colour :) Spionida (talk) 23:02, 4 December 2014 (UTC)
- The locations to location but note to notes indeed is kind of inconsistent :D (I don’t have an actual opinion on it though) poke | talk 23:41, 4 December 2014 (UTC)
- Well, I suppose we're trying to create a sense of consistency with pages. When there's only one unique location for a certain NPC, it should be singular - location. As for the notes, the consistent way is "notes", regardless of the actual number of notes, as they are subjective to change - whereas locations rarely are. Combat abilities do not only refer to the abilities under the NPC's name, but to its skills and stolen skills, although I only removed the capital from abilities as it is the *technically* correct way of capitalization. The color part was underlined for me, and we can't have that :P --Ventriloquist 00:32, 5 December 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for fixing the descriptions
I only bought the Mini Drooburt's Ghost, and did not notice that they are having different descriptions from gem store and the actual item. Thanks for fixing it :D -- Maplemist 09:08, 9 December 2014 (UTC)
- Ah, it's nothing. I usually am the first to update the gem store items, so it was nice that someone else for a change took care of those for me. Gem Store items usually have different descriptions than the ones in the store, and, thankfully all minis have the same description. --Ventriloquist 09:09, 9 December 2014 (UTC)
Bow of the Pale Stag
Hello, I wanted to ask you about your undoing of the acquisition of the Bow from Embroidered Belt Pouches. There has been several instances of this dropping from it (including mines) so I wanted to ask you, why was it deleted as an acquisition method? --Mewdos (talk) 00:33, 16 December 2014 (UTC)
- Because the weapon itself isn't exclusively acquired from the champion bag. Champion bags behave similar to regular chests, with the exception of champion-specific weapons; which means the Embroidered Belt Pouches can drop Dusk, Bow of the Pale Stag or even The Ugly Stick because those weapons are universal. They can be acquired from chests, the Mystic Forge, as a random drop and yes, even in champion bags.
- It would be extremely redundant to list every single acquisition method there is (we'd have to include guild mission rewards, all types of chests, all types of containers etc.) If you feel like this is an information worth keeping, then just changed the too-specific champion bag to "Chance from champion loot bags", but I still see it as unnecessary repetition that would have to be the same for all named weapons. --Ventriloquist 00:46, 16 December 2014 (UTC)
Frozen box of clothing
“If it's a frozen box, wouldn't all the clothes inside be just frosted hunks of ice?” – Things that contain no liquid cannot freeze. That’s why you can actually put your shirt into the fridge in summer to cool them down and then enjoy a nice cold shirt later. poke | talk 00:31, 19 December 2014 (UTC)

“Api says no "double click to consume" thing.” – The game does though. And it doesn’t do that for all items automatically. So what should we do here? poke | talk 00:42, 19 December 2014 (UTC)
- Despite the api's all-mighty power, the in-game version is always the most correct one. I'll put it back then. --Ventriloquist 00:44, 19 December 2014 (UTC)
- One could assume that the line is implicitely there for all consumables in game, so that’s why the API doesn’t show it; but there are some consumables which don’t follow that rule, so that’s a bit annoying :/ poke | talk 00:47, 19 December 2014 (UTC)
- “Think I only removed these two, hmph.” – as far as the items go which articles I created, that’s correct. poke | talk 00:48, 19 December 2014 (UTC)
Armor galleries opinion
Hey there, Ventri. I've changed Armor nav to categorize those nav pages, but I'm not sure if that is fine. The way I've changed you would have "Human female light armor" categorized under "Category:Human female light armor gallery", which would be categorized under "Category:Light armor galleries". I personally like this hierarchy but not sure if it makes sense. Thoughts? – Valento msg 11:23, 24 December 2014 (UTC)
- It obviously requires some more work to unify all of the armor galleries, but I like it so far. Things being categorized and consolidated makes for both easier navigation and a cleaner wiki. When the new armor galleries from the german wiki roll up, it's going to be awesome. --Ventriloquist 11:58, 24 December 2014 (UTC)
- Hmm.. I'm afraid I go messy about categorizing stuff, but I'll just create them. If they look bad, we can always reorganize them, I guess. :) – Valento msg 12:13, 24 December 2014 (UTC)
- I'm curious about the others' opinions, since I'm not that much of a category expert. --Ventriloquist 12:14, 24 December 2014 (UTC)

- As I already said on Valento's talk page (before I noticed this discussion), having a set of categories with only 1 page in each of them is pointless. The pages should just go into the parent category instead. —Dr Ishmael 14:24, 24 December 2014 (UTC)
- They way I understood it is that the category pages are going to contain all of the armor sets related to the race and gender. So, for example our :Category:Human male heavy armor gallery should contain all of the heavy male armor gallery, which is why I said "It obviously requires some more work to unify all of the armor galleries..." --Ventriloquist 15:53, 24 December 2014 (UTC)
- I created those categories because I thought that that would be the layout for new armor sets, but Ish is correct, that extra level isn't necessary at all (and kinda irrelevant). If you want me I can change template to categorize those pages directly, and you can delete those categories... – Valento msg 16:00, 24 December 2014 (UTC)

(Reset indent) The nav template and categorization seem weird to me. The primary purpose of these pages are as an overview of the galleries for each combination of race and gender. This is really an armor set nav where we split by armor weight, then race and gender. We are skipping over the armor sets themselves in the nav. An "armor nav" would link to armor sets, skins, dyes, defense rating, attributes, and other general properties of armor.--Relyk ~ talk < 16:42, 24 December 2014 (UTC)
- One other thing - if we're going to have these categories, then the category names should be plural. —Dr Ishmael 16:12, 5 January 2015 (UTC)
Spelling
I thought the consensus was not to correct US/UK differences unless they're "in-game"? "Worshipping" is fine in my dictionary. I try to follow the US versions generally but... --Spionida (talk) 22:27, 7 January 2015 (UTC)
- Oh, I just thought since the majority of the information on the wiki is written the "US-way", that I might as well, but if you have an issue with it, feel free to revert it. I'm perfectly fine with both variants. --Ventriloquist 02:10, 8 January 2015 (UTC)
- As per our formatting guidelines, American English is preferred, so please do not revert it. That being said, it's a fairly low priority, so don't feel like you need to go looking for instances of British English to "fix" unless the article is inconsistent, or if you really want to. - Felix Omni 02:34, 8 January 2015 (UTC)
- Yes, I know US is preferred, just thought that editing an article for US/UK spellings was not encouraged. No big deal. Just wondering. Overriding my spell checker is fine for recognize/recognise, colour/color but the uncommon words are more difficult to spot. --Spionida (talk) 03:46, 8 January 2015 (UTC)

- Just because it's "not encouraged" doesn't necessarily mean it is discouraged, either. It's just not something that "we the wiki" bother ourselves with very much. —Dr Ishmael 04:21, 8 January 2015 (UTC)
- It's an amazingly small thing that makes certain people astonishingly upset. As long as in-game quotations are verbatim, it matters not a jot if certain words occur with an extra u. That s...
Why is it correct to remove that s here, but not in Caudecus's Manor? – Valento msg 12:38, 9 January 2015 (UTC)
- I reverted it. You can only omit the 's' after the apostrophe if it's a plural possessive, i.e. "the birds' chattering." You can't do it on singular nouns that happen to end in 's' like Hodgins or bass. It's a mistake that a lot of people make, even native English speakers. (I think Ventriloquist is non-native?) —Dr Ishmael 13:17, 9 January 2015 (UTC)

blocking spambots
Perma-block them. I've noticed several times over the past few weeks that spambots I'm blocking had been previously blocked by you, but only for 3 days. That's unnecessary - obvious spambots don't need a "second chance" or anything. —Dr Ishmael 03:05, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
- You got it cap'n. I was told by Auron at the top of my talk page not to "permaban ips, they get reassigned and shit". IPs and accounts are both spambots, shouldn't they get the same ban time? --Ventriloquist 08:30, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
- I think your thinking is inside-out. We can perma-block registered accounts, but we don't do that to IPs. Spambots can be both accounts and IPs, so apply the perma-block rules based on that - i.e. perma-block registered spam accounts, but not the IPs. —Dr Ishmael 13:10, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
- I actually thought you were referring to my latest IP ban, not a user account ban; guess that's what confused me in the original message. However, if there's anything in the future that I mess up and it bothers you, you better let me know, I'd hate to be an inconvenience in my editing. --Ventriloquist 22:24, 19 January 2015 (UTC)

I'm back ;)
Hey, I had some free time and took some of your pictures from your "wishlist". I also added Mordrem, Tempest, Pact Fleet, Crimson Lion and Wintersday weapon skins.
- Weapons: Weapons I added: Bandit Spear (never missed), Greatsaw Greatsword Skin (Wielded), Pact Scepter (Effect was bugged, dont know why), Winter's Brunt Hammer Skin (Wielded), Entropy (Wielded), Genesis (Wielded), Fused Greatsword Skin (Wielded), Hunter's Harpoon, Braham's Shield Skin (Wielded), Corrupted Sledgehammer (Wield)
- Weapons I will not add: The Delaqua Family Blade (Its not a Skin, that exist in Wardrobe), Araneae Longbow Skin & Grinning Gourd Rifle Skin(Can't see any difference between Versions)
- Weapons I forgot: Zodiac Rifle Skin (Wielded), Foefire's Essence, Eternal Sands, Caithes Bloom Dagger
- Skins I need a skinname: PvP Valley Harpoon (German name would be great ^.^)
I also started the armor project. I will not add side-views, cause they are 50% more work and we (german people) think two pictures are enough and most people will check armors they like ingame for a full view. I already uploaded all Outfits. (Link for Armor Gallery.) I started already with Asura pictures, but didn't send them to Stéphane cause they are not finished yet.
Next (short) project will be back skins. Think made a gallery for them on the german wiki, too. (Link) Greetings --Chiubi (talk) 11:57, 18 February 2015 (UTC)

- This is fantastic news. I'll comment on the removal of side views from the armor formatting completely, then get started on uploading all the files that you have put up so far. - I finished Asuran armors and passed them to Stéphane, too. I currently upload them (half now, half tomorrow). You can find front pictures here. Just click on the armor name for all pictures. Happy to hear that people like the pictures :) --Chiubi (talk) 22:09, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
- Little update before I go to bed. Zodiac Rifle Skin (Wielded), Foefire's Essence (Effekt isnt that bright like on your existing image), Eternal Sands and Caithes Bloom Dagger added. PvP Valley Harpoongun and PvP Valley Harpoon added. --Chiubi (talk) 22:35, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
- I used an image found on Google for the Foefire's Essence, blurred out the redundancy and tweaked its contrast to make it more bright and focused. I'll use your image for consistency, perhaps brighten it up a bit if it fits. Thanks for the update! Ventriloquist 22:37, 18 February 2015 (UTC)

- Guild armors are one of the missing sets. They are a little confusing, since you can only currently get the chest piece unlocked (except when you had them unlocked before the wardrobe patch), and the heavy guild armor only has three skin pieces. We'll take full pictures for light and medium, and we'll probably take a full set for heavy, too, filled up with the banded skins. --Tera (talk) 14:15, 28 February 2015 (UTC)
- Sounds great. Regarding the credit for your images - how do you want us to "form" the credit? Like Chieftain Alex asked, is there any division of labor in your project? How many participants are there? I'd hate to miss someone crucial to the project. —Ventriloquist 14:18, 28 February 2015 (UTC)
- So, there's only two people doing pictures, that's myself (Think on DE) and Chiubi. Chiubi uploaded all the pictures, and I'm fine if she's being credited. There's additional pictures that existed before we started the project, most of them made by Dusk (and in orange/green colors). Since they are up to our quality requirements (this sounds like a typical german phrase...), we didn't replace them. TLDR: just credit the uploader of the picture on the german wiki, and all should be fine. :) Also, you can send me a mail with your IGN for quick questions, if you like. ;)--Tera (talk) 14:33, 28 February 2015 (UTC)

Where do I get heavy plate armor?
This is what someone reading the page of the armor set will ask themselves now. Users visiting the Armor sets page will click the name of the set looking for where to get it, only to find there's no such info there, and that clicking each respective skin will not really answer that question either, as the pages that were supposed to be the skin pages show only the WvW armor pieces, not the skins. I don't think removing crucial information from the wiki like that is a good policy, and that it's better to make sure the info has been put somewhere else before removing it from another page. Where should that info be now? MithTalk 14:03, 28 February 2015 (UTC)
- Yeah, Alex told me that as well. I reverted for now, and will see if putting up some sort of table on the skins will work better. —Ventriloquist 14:04, 28 February 2015 (UTC)

Help with armor color?
Hello! I realize you just uploaded those pictures and not necessarily took them, but I was wondering if I could ask for your help! I really enjoy the armor color scheme seen on the Human female heavy armor galley, such as here and here. Is there any way you could help me find out which color scheme is that?
Thanks! Erasculio 16:31, 7 March 2015 (UTC)
- You're correct, the original files were uploaded by users of the German wiki, I just transferred them over. Sadly, I'm not much of a dye fanatic, but it looks to be one of those dyes that was meant for use on metal? If you go to the dye panel, you can split dyes by material, so just try them out on heavy armor. If you're still feeling lost, you can send a message to the users that uploaded the original files. Good luck! —Ventriloquist 19:57, 7 March 2015 (UTC)
Grilled Portabello Mushroom
I disagree with your and J.P.'s reason for deleting this redirect. "Portabello" is a very common misspelling of "portobello." —Dr Ishmael 16:15, 23 March 2015 (UTC)
- Why specifically that piece of food, though? There is clearly more than one usage of the word "portobello", yet we don't have redirects for those. If there hasn't been a redirect for mentioned pages, why should that be the case here? —Ventriloquist 16:23, 23 March 2015 (UTC)
- That's pretty weak reasoning, especially given the tiny number of pages involved (7). A devil's advocate could run havoc with that: We don't have a plural redirect for every stackable item, so we shouldn't keep any of them. I could also render it invalid by going out and creating "portabello" redirects for all of those pages.
- The reason that redirect existed is because someone mistakenly created the page as an actual item page. Rather than delete it, I converted it into a redirect that could help other users who might make the same mistake. The reason other redirects don't exist (except Portabello Mushroom) is because those pages have never been created by mistake - I'm a reactive editor when it comes to redirects, not proactive. My point is that it was not a deliberate choice on my part to create only this one redirect and none of the others - I merely reacted to what another editor had done and improved it. —Dr Ishmael 17:41, 23 March 2015 (UTC)
- Administration is a tricky task that doesn't leave mushroom for error. — snograt 19:53, 23 March 2015 (UTC)
- I honestly cannot remember a single time a user created a completely new page by mistake. Sure we get the occasional "I'll create spam on a non-existent page so you can do it for me", but other than that, during my 2 year stay here, I can't say it ever happened. The page was created in 2012, when the wiki was still creating content, when everything was still new. Back then, there was a wide margin for error, but now with game IDs and a more complete "database", that doesn't still hold true.
- Looking at the history, it looks like User:Tigerlily simply created the page at an incorrect name. If you compare the history of the two pages, you can see that the offending page was created a day before the correct one, and she eventually fixed her mistake before you could intervene.
- "I merely reacted to what another editor had done and improved it." I would have done the same. Going out of my way to create a redirect? Not so much. —Ventriloquist 20:43, 23 March 2015 (UTC)
- Administration is a tricky task that doesn't leave mushroom for error. — snograt 19:53, 23 March 2015 (UTC)

Weird image bug?
Hi, sorry for writing here, no idea who to ask about this so I ask you because you uploaded a newer version of File:Stygian Blade.jpg but on its respective page (Stygian Blade) a distorted thumbnail of a previous version can be seen. No idea how to fix it. Howellq (talk) 10:42, 16 April 2015 (UTC)
Force a refresh of your page - ctrl f5 is the hotkey for it on firefox, might be similar in other browsers. -Auron 11:08, 16 April 2015 (UTC)That apparently has no effect, no idea what's wrong there. -Auron 11:10, 16 April 2015 (UTC)
- Purging the file page (the "refresh" tab at the top of the page) will delete all cached thumbnails on the wiki, requiring them to be re-created from the current version of the file. The thumbnail on the article appears correctly for me, now (you may still have to purge your browser's cache, as Auron pointed out). —Dr Ishmael 12:11, 16 April 2015 (UTC)
- What they said. I always thought the wiki eventually did that on its own, but apparently not. —Ventriloquist 21:21, 16 April 2015 (UTC)

Transparency
I appreciate the efforts you have made to convert various images and icons that I have submitted to have transparent backgrounds, when appropriate. I am curious to know what method or utility is used to accomplish this. ~ 1Maven (talk) 14:59, 23 April 2015 (UTC)
- Hi there. All of the icons I reuploaded are ripped directly from the game's dat - the gw2.dat.
- It basically stores everything from the game, including icons, and it organizes them in their respective resolutions. For example, effect icons and map icons, such as Corrosion are classified as 32x32 and are the smallest of the bunch. Any item icon is classified as a 64x64 file and any skill icon or mini-pet icon is classified as 128x128 file.
- You can download the majority of the game's files from Dr ishmael's user page in a zip file. It is missing some of the newer icons, but nothing too bad. The lower the number of the file name, the "older" the icon. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask away. —Ventriloquist 19:04, 23 April 2015 (UTC)

You added an image of a Flame Greatsword to this page which doesn't appear to match any of the five greatswords listed. Am I missing something or was this an error? --Cali (talk) 09:13, 23 May 2015 (UTC)

File DoubleRedirects
Very few links use those file pages any more. Your reverts were unnecessary, and their continued existence is an affront to wiki cleanliness.

- Adding "unnecessary because ____" (instead of rekt) as a delete reason would have helped. Your argument against "wiki cleanliness" seems a bit weak here, given that those two files are simple redirects of user signatures. It's not something users are likely to come across, nor is it inadvertently harmful to any aspect of the wiki. With that being said, those files will likely become orphans in the future, so I'm with you on the deletion request, just off put by the rather non-descriptive way you decided to tag them. —Ventriloquist 19:35, 24 June 2015 (UTC)
- Actually it is an affront to cleanliness because no one should have redirects in the File namespace in this day and age. It offends my very heart and soul. Both the files are already orphaned, their only references are on talk pages about how they should be deleted.--Relyk ~ talk < 21:53, 24 June 2015 (UTC)
- If that's the case, then I will say that I was rather put off by the notices/comments of "Halt! ye doer of good!" and If you try to fix this double-redirect, you'd be the sixth. Just sayin', both of which were rather discouraging remarks about something that could be remedied in under twenty minutes. In return, I left a similarly useless and discouraging remark, as it seemed only appropriate. I also agree fully with User:Relyk. TehAnonymous (talk) 14:41, 25 June 2015 (UTC)
- Basically Anonymous, you shouldn't have been performing automated edits to fix the file redirect usage without a bot account. -Chieftain Alex 15:26, 25 June 2015 (UTC)
- A series of bot-like edits, like Alex noticed, and a "rekt" for a delete reason raised some red flags. I have to question delete requests for a variety of reasons, and based on what I saw, I didn't feel as if it needed to be deleted, let alone edited out of a fair amount of pages. In retrospect, I should have asked you to elaborate on your actions, but I didn't. That's my bad. —Ventriloquist 15:41, 25 June 2015 (UTC)
Isi's images
Just airing my opinion here - I don't really like his (her?) NPC screenshots. They seem much too bright and washed out; if they were photographs, I'd call them overexposed. Granted, the images you're replacing have the opposite problem with being too dark, so I guess I won't be happy either way. *runs away making chicken noises* —Dr Ishmael 20:33, 24 June 2015 (UTC)
- Hey, I agree, but it's better than what we had on most of them. Some files, like File:Dog.jpg look really odd up-close, but when looking at them as a part of an infobox, they look quite well. —Ventriloquist 20:37, 24 June 2015 (UTC)

Dialogue Indent Query & Current Dialogue Release Indicator
Hi, Vent! Long time listener, first time caller etc. I saw you updated the dialogue formatting on Aid Worker Sya's page, and I was wondering if you would jam with me for a moment on standardized dialogue formatting :) The Dialogue Formatting section follows the Quotes+Dialogue Project, which should have been my first resource instead of copy+paste'ing a similar tree from an old NPC page and editing from there. Sorry you had to clean up my mess :\ Lesson learned. In any case, I noticed you used a different indentation pattern (more + end responses indented an extra step away from their parent dialogue instead of inline) and was wondering if this is common/best practice now. No one seems to check the dialogue project discussion page and I figure things could have changed since the big formatting discussion in 2013, so I wanted to ask before I go around cleaning up dialogue trees with any seriousness.
Also, I'd like to float a little idea here. So, usually dialogue sections with archived text say, "For previous dialogue, see here." at the top with current dialogue unlabeled below it. After many months, it becomes difficult to pinpoint which release the dialogue was "current" from. For example, Marjory Delaqua's dialogue section is from some nebulous time after Season 1; archiving it will be approximated based on its addition date to the article and context clues, which bothers me. I'd like to start adding an additional sentence after the link to the dialogue archive page. Something like, "Current dialogue from Lion's Arch Reborn." I think this avoids the TOC clutter of using a subheader, but maybe you have some insight I haven't thought of? I will of course post this on the project page for discussion with a Request for Comment, I just wanted a senior editor's opinion/insight before I get attached to the idea. I ended up doing this to Fort Marriner, if you'd like to see it in context. Obviously, if you feel it's inappropriate to keep before a full discussion there will be no feelings hurt if you remove it. Thank you so much for taking the time to read all of this! -Kymtastic (talk) 21:25, 25 June 2015 (UTC)
- Hi there Kym. Konig and I discussed proper formatting a while ago, but never really reached a consensus regarding them. I preferred it with more indents, he preferred it with less. As of right now, both can stand in my opinion (although I'm a little biased towards mine, heh). It would be great if we could agree on something that would be universally liked, but I doubt anyone but a few editors cares for dialogue formatting all that much.
- As for the archived text, I do agree with you on that point, especially since I suffered the same issues months ago while editing Hero-o-Tron's former dialogue. It was a nightmare as some quotes weren't properly categorized, some were missing etc. I do like the idea of noting the "current" version, as it does help clear some confusion and doesn't really feel unnecessary when looking at the article as a whole. Perhaps reshaping the sentence to something like "The following dialogue is current as of the XY release/update" would work better, although that's a minor issue. I'm glad at least someone notices changes in dialogue; perhaps you could even bring some fresh ideas to mix! —Ventriloquist 22:30, 25 June 2015 (UTC)

PvP armor names
Question: If the PvP armor set pieces have been renamed in the API, are you using the new item names, or the old ones? e.g. the set that used to be called Champion armor had components labelled in the API as "PvP Winged Tunic" etc. -Chieftain Alex 13:45, 6 August 2015 (UTC)
- New ones, although I document the old name in the notes section. It doesn't happen too often, only one I've come across thus far was Tribal armor. —Ventriloquist 15:32, 6 August 2015 (UTC)
I'm planning on doing a clean-up on the asuran cultural weapons and armour later today. I noticed that some items such as Galvanic Boots have the PvP ID included in the infobox. They unfortunately share the same name as the PvE version.
Any preference as to what I do with them? I'm sure you can grab them later via the API, but I thought I'd ask before diving in. G R E E N E R 16:55, 10 August 2015 (UTC)
- Feel free to copy-paste over it. The api fortunately has all the PvP armors documented, so it won't be an issue. I'm a long way from cultural armors (Dragon rank reward), so no worries. 16:59, 10 August 2015 (UTC)
- The stats on the cultural armors are all PvE ones I think, so if you can replace the ID with the correct one, that'd be good. Since its only the pvp id, don't worry about it for the moment + we'll do it when we get to the pvp cultural armors. -Chieftain Alex 17:00, 10 August 2015 (UTC)
Icon Licensing attributes
You recently changed the Licensing attributes of several icons that I uploaded from (ArenaNet image|icon) to (ArenaNet image|icon|User interface icons). I would like to know (1) why this is important? and (2) Is it something that I could/should do myself in the future? ~ 1Maven (talk) 21:52, 19 August 2015 (UTC)
- It's important for categorizing. When uploading an icon without any additional details, it gets put into Category:ArenaNet icons, which is the default for every uploaded icon. Anything that can't be placed into other categories should be here, whereas anything that can be should be added into its related category. For example, if you're uploading a consumable item's icon, you would upload it as icon and it'll automatically get added to Category:Consumable icons, which prevents any sort of mess in the icon section and creates a nice list of items of the same type. It's especially useful when dealing with weapons or armor, as it can give a brief overview of every single weapon/armor icon in the game. It would be nice if you could categorize your future uploads; it makes our job easier and keeps things organized. —Ventriloquist 22:06, 19 August 2015 (UTC)

reverting edits
Not sure you knew, but if you make a change to a page, and it turns out that the previous version was correct, you can just undo your edit back to a correct revision. You don't need to undo your changes in a new edit altogether. Speaking of course of this then this Venom20 23:31, 4 September 2015 (UTC)
- I am well aware of that. I just don't like the extra long "undo revision by x" sentence that appears on RC, so I just usually delete it if it's my own edit. —Ventriloquist 01:26, 5 September 2015 (UTC)

Actual description
Please go Template_talk:Item_infobox this is something I think needs to be talked about and possibly added to the infobox so that SMW can pull it for the collection tables. Anzenketh (talk) 21:16, 3 November 2015 (UTC)
- This was shortly discussed on User talk:Mewdos, and adding it to the item description would be incorrect, as it does not reflect the actual description of the item in-game. However, I'm sure there's a way to incorporate hints onto the pages, more specifically the collection items. —Ventriloquist 21:22, 3 November 2015 (UTC)
- Note I do not disagree with the decision. I understand the logic behind it. There is a way to incorporate hints onto pages but that way is not created yet. Please go to Template_talk:Item_infobox so this can be discussed. If no discussion happens I will likely do what I think is best. Anzenketh (talk) 21:31, 3 November 2015 (UTC)
If I were to kill you...
...then I'd lose the lovely white edits on the new pages list. When there are nearly 1500 new articles to click through, those white ones mean the world! Besides, I'm adding those brackets while listening to music. I only get screwed over when the song has a 3/4 beat to it.
Thanks for catching my mistakes as well, and doing the icons which I haven't dared to look into, yet. G R E E N E R 00:00, 5 November 2015 (UTC)
- I usually ad language links to new pages, but since there's so many new items to document (at least 30 per DB page, thirty pages left) it's much quicker for me to ignore them, but thanks for adding them after me, it makes me feel complete. —Ventriloquist 13:28, 5 November 2015 (UTC)

- 1 mw gear, 1 Milling Stone, 1 Chak Pearl, 1 Leaf Fossil, 1 Armored Scale, 1 more Leaf Fossil

I wasn't sure how to list the extra mw gear that dropped otherwise. Have we discussed container drop formulae, aka 1 of this specifically, 2 for this list, etc as opposed to long lists of all possible that might give the impression that one is abnormally unlucky to only get 3 (when that is actually the reality? - Hi there. When referring to loot boxes, the contents depend on the player's magic find, which obviously affects the rewards. We try and document all possibilities, but as you might imagine, players with higher percentages would receive higher quality items and vice-versa. As for the masterwork equipment, if, for example, you opened ten boxes, and one of them had a double masterwork drop, document it as (1-2) - meaning that 1 is guaranteed, but up to 2 are possible. Hopefully that makes sense. You can find existing PvP loot boxes and their formatting here. —Ventriloquist 18:51, 6 November 2015 (UTC)
Potion pictures
Hey there, shouldn't pics link to a generic "Large Potion.png" pic rather than removing a "potion name.png" pic to link a pic from another "potion with diff name.png"? File:Powerful Potion of Inquest Slaying.png making other Potions link to this file e.g. is kinda weird.. so either that one should be renamed or removed and a generic potion link should be used in my eyes. Autositz (talk) 18:38, 6 November 2015 (UTC)
- Hello. Reusing existing files on the wiki is preferred as it reduces the number of duplicate files. "File:Large Potion.png" in this case wouldn't work, because the original file is related to the Powerful Potion of Inquest Slaying, which is one of many existing powerful slaying potions, all with different icons which could be referred to as "large potions". Pages rarely link directly to files, so that shouldn't be an issue, nor would it confuse anyone, as it does not affect the article's displayed information. —Ventriloquist 18:51, 6 November 2015 (UTC)
64x64 images?
I saw on [the Black Pearl image] that you uploaded a 64x64 version of the file.
When playing on 1920x1080 with -bmp the icon size is 50x50. Do you play at a higher resolution, or pull the icon directly from the .dat file? - Reelix (talk) 00:44, 12 November 2015 (UTC)
- The official API includes links to the icons. https://api.guildwars2.com/v2/items/71764 —Dr Ishmael 00:46, 12 November 2015 (UTC)
- Well - That certainly saves some time :P Does it include icons for non-items as well - The Art of Woodworking: Short Bow Stave Edition - ? - Reelix (talk) 00:56, 12 November 2015 (UTC)
- That is an item as well. The api doesn't have icons for skills (128x128) or effects (32x32) but we just pull those directly from the icon folder, which you can download here. —Ventriloquist 09:53, 12 November 2015 (UTC)

Ingredient incredulity
Hey Ventriloquist, I could use your help. I added the following Recipe to the wiki: Recipe: Mashed Purple Potatoes. The ingredients list keeps showing the wrong thing -- the proper ingredient1 is Purple Potato, but for some reason it keeps showing up as Stick of Butter when I view the page. Sorry to bug you, but I really don't know how else to ask for help =) Thanks!
- everything uses butter /joke

Leystone armor pages
Would you prefer I make the item pages all under Wanderer's Leystone <x> rather than under Leystone <x> then? Seylan (talk) 12:33, 23 November 2015 (UTC)
- Stick with using the precise ingame names for the leystone items per the links on Leystone Armor Box. I will undo the skin page moves. -Chieftain Alex 14:34, 23 November 2015 (UTC)
- Late reply, but yeah, in-game for now. We don't know if more Leystone armor combinations will be released, so it's best to stick with what we do know. —Ventriloquist 21:43, 30 November 2015 (UTC)
Removal of File:Thick Short Bow String Requisition.png ?
You recently removed the file located at http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/File:Thick_Short_Bow_String_Requisition.png and replaced it with http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/File:Thick_Longbow_String_Requisition.png
This results in pages such as http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Thick_Short_Bow_String_Requisition pointing to the Thick Longbow String Requisition (Which seems a little odd)

Any reason you specifically removed the one and replaced it with the other (That you uploaded 4 days ago), even though the images are identical? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Reelix (talk • contribs).
- Hi there Reelix.
- "...even though the images are identical?" That's precisely the reason I removed it. We tend to reuse images and avoid duplicate files to maintain wiki cleanliness. It's easier to manage one file than three identical files located at different names throughout the wiki. In fact, you'll find that a lot of icons in-game are shared with items that have no relation to one another (containers can have icons of consumables etc.).
- As for the reason of the removal, judging from the deleted information, your file's size was 50x50, whereas the current file is 64x64. Most items in-game are 64x64, which is how they should be uploaded on the wiki; 64x64 will provide better quality than a 50x50 file, which is our goal.
- If you have any questions about file uploading, formatting or anything else related to this issue, feel free to shout. Oh, also, sign your comments when posting on talk pages by typing four tildes (~~~~)! —Ventriloquist 23:38, 24 January 2016 (UTC)
Queen's Retort Page Format
Um while flipping through Random pages on the wiki I find pages like this one: Queen's Retort where the bottom part of the page is sort of wonky. Can you fix it or should I just ignore pages with the wonky bottoms? Doodleplex (talk) 21:37, 8 February 2016 (UTC)
- Quick passing note to say, please add a new section to a talk page when you are asking a new question/starting a new subject. Use the '+' icon next to the 'edit' tab ;). Also, I don't see what is wonky about it, are you referring to the collapsible table of stats?-Darqam (talk) 21:44, 8 February 2016 (UTC)
- I saw the title just as I hit Save Page, so I almost got it. (gah I'm new to this) XD Anyway I uploaded a screenshot to imgur maybe that'll make sense? http://imgur.com/zYt5xS1 See the bottom part of the two pages how they differ? That's what I mean by wonky.Doodleplex (talk) 21:59, 8 February 2016 (UTC)
- Oh yeah, now I see. I'm not 100% sure how to solve this, but it does seem to stem from the collapsible tables. The web-page is first generated with those tables expanded, and when they collapse, the page format gets screwed up. If you then expand any (or both) of the tables, it's all pretty looking. I'll play around in there to see if I can make a fix for this (and potentially other pages where this might happen). -Darqam (talk) 22:12, 8 February 2016 (UTC)
- Awesome, I figured it was the table, but I don't know how to change stuff like that. If I find others I'll let you know. Doodleplex (talk) 22:18, 8 February 2016 (UTC)
- Ok, issue fixed (and apologies for issue hijacking Ventriloquist). Two problems seemed to occure here, and one needs to still be addressed. First off, that table never 'closed' properly; there was missing a

at the end. Secondly I had to write in a<br />
after the table to make it understand something else was needed below the table so that the CSS footer would not try and follow the table instead of the bottom of the page.

- That last part, I have no issue how to permanently fix, but since adding that newline character worked, I consider my work done
- Oh hey, no problem, I'm not so good with code stuff anyway. Thanks for fixing it, band-aid or not. —Ventriloquist 22:58, 8 February 2016 (UTC)
Doodleplex broke the table in this edit by removing the table close in this edit. I'm not sure if he forgot he did that or something.--Relyk ~ talk < 23:48, 8 February 2016 (UTC)
- (I'm a girl, says so on my page T___T) I didn't intentionally remove it, the page was wonky beforehand. Also I found another one with a wonky bottom: Yew Rod. Doodleplex (talk) 18:19, 9 February 2016 (UTC)
You show that missing period who's boss
A quick note as a thanks for the proofreading on the pages I recently changed, and what you've done in the past. Always been pleasant to have you scan through those so I won't have to. :D -Darqam (talk) 20:29, 25 February 2016 (UTC)
- Sure thing! Thank you for annihilating red links. —Ventriloquist 20:32, 25 February 2016 (UTC)
- Red links *shudders*. Well I do what I can, mainly i just want to see wing 1 of the raid in better shape than it is before wing 2 hits. I imagine we will have very little contributions flowing into wing 1 after wing 2 hits. Plus, creating new pages forces people to talk to me when I forget things (because I obviously don't forget things by accident). -Darqam (talk) 20:55, 25 February 2016 (UTC)

Ancient Itzel Totem
So, you mentioned in your edit to this article that the walkthrough should be on the achievement page. Well... what achievement page? We don't really seem to have any articles decided to specific achievements; just a list of all the achievements in a particular category. I'd been thinking of starting a project to create dedicated articles for every achievement in the game, but I wasn't sure if that was a thing we wanted. --Idris (talk) 22:47, 25 February 2016 (UTC)
- I was thinking of a new page, yes. Pre-HoT there weren't (that) many achievements that needed guides, as most of them were straight forward, but HoT features a lot of scavenger hunts, mini-achievement-adventures and such, so I think that proper articles for the more complex achievements could definitely be useful. —Ventriloquist 22:51, 25 February 2016 (UTC)
- Ok, cool. I'll make a start on the project tomorrow. :D --Idris (talk) 23:11, 25 February 2016 (UTC)
- ...or not. I'm sorry. --Idris (talk) 07:13, 27 February 2016 (UTC)
- I came here to ask something else, but this actually a second question I did want to ask. In regards to Lost Coin, I wanted to do a page for each of the Lost Coin Achievements with a walkthrough/guide as I feel having them all on one page could be just too long(there's 72 coins total, and sometimes getting to them requires lots of details), but when I made a page for Coin Collector: Challenger Cliffs Mora just deleted it without even moving the guide anywhere else, so I thought I did it wrong and just put it in my sandbox for my guild mates to use. Can we have separate pages for the lost coins because it is so long, and going forward, should we separate the guide from the item linked to it, for example Lost Golden Badges or Exalted Masks is the object but there's a separate page for the achievement?
- ...or not. I'm sorry. --Idris (talk) 07:13, 27 February 2016 (UTC)
- Ok, cool. I'll make a start on the project tomorrow. :D --Idris (talk) 23:11, 25 February 2016 (UTC)
- (And I came here to ask if Point of Interests that aren't Instances are supposed to list NPCs because of Holdfast Hollow has NPC's listed but those NPC's are already listed in Broken Bluffs so I'm a little unsure.) - Doodleplex 21:25, 11 March 2016 (UTC)
- Well, 72 coins is a lot, so having them all on one page would be a bit of a mess. You can use subpages (e.g. Lost Coin/Challenger Cliffs) to split the achievements by area; I'd advise leaving the "easier" coins (that don't require a tutorial) on the main page, and then splitting off the more difficult ones to subpages. As for the PoI question, yes, NPCs should be listed, but unlike areas, the articles don't mention events, crafting resources nor dialogue, which is the main difference between PoI and area formatting. It might seem redundant, but at least it's somewhat consistent. —Ventriloquist 01:09, 12 March 2016 (UTC)

- Vahkris clearly agrees that the tables with locations are useful, he seems to have copied over something very similar to your Prospect Valley guide.
- My personal opinion would be that the coin achievements should be on pages matching the ingame name of the achievement (duh?) rather than on Lost Coin. Lost coin would serve as a page to link to the other 3 pages. The guide pages would probably not have an object infobox on them, but would otherwise be identical to "User:Doodleplex/Coin Collector: Prospect Valley" etc. -Chieftain Alex 21:05, 13 March 2016 (UTC)
- "...matching the ingame name of the achievement" Ooh, right. Forgot those have official names. Yes, this would be the best choice. —Ventriloquist 22:19, 13 March 2016 (UTC)
- Actually the Prospect Valley guide is based off what Vahkris started really, credit goes to him first, but anyway if you want I can move my sandbox guide pages to "Coin Collector: Prospect Valley" and "Coin Collector: Uplands" like Alex said, and in the case of Coin Collector: Challenger Cliffs, just revert it back to how it was, as I think it's less work for everybody that way. I've already changed the infoboxes on my guide pages to be just a map too, so all good to go on my end, just want to be sure before I do anything else. - Doodleplex 21:09, 14 March 2016 (UTC)
- How is the location of an object not valuable information to be put on the object's page? Completely butchering the page just because you have to scroll a little is a horrible excuse. What arbitrary qualifier are you putting on this subject since people seem to just keep making them up as they go; what makes a page too big? Should Guild Trek be split into regional locations or rune split into attributes? A full guide for each encounter in Spirit Vale should be put on that single page, but not for a simple objects' location? How is Hidden Amphibian a useful page when it's just completely omitting the information from the target NPC's page? If an achievement has a direct link to a single subject page, what benefit is there for splitting it? —Mora 02:02, 16 March 2016 (UTC)
Dialogue indents
Isn't it supposed to be one colon per line, and the icon template counts as an indent? Example:
:NPC chitter chatter line 1 :more User selected reply to npc chitter chatter. ::further NPC banter line 2. ::end User selected exit to line 2. :end User selected exit.
-Chieftain Alex 16:24, 3 April 2016 (UTC)
- Right, right, that's the new formatting. Forgot that we moved away from the "more indents" option. The new one is a bit messy imo, but at least it's somewhat consistent. —Ventriloquist 16:38, 3 April 2016 (UTC)
