Abusefilter[edit]
Howdy. Are you looking for the full set of filters, or just the ones that catch the most edits? Also, would you need the others as examples, or would a couple be enough? --JonTheMon 13:40, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
- The full set if you don't mind, but if it's a long list then the ones that catch the most edits would be enough. Thank you! - Valento 18:48, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
skill point costs[edit]
Since you were able to reach level 30, could you confirm the skill point costs for each tier? The General Gameplay Changes on the official forums said they "Improved skill unlock rate" for BWE3, and I thought maybe that meant they'd reduced the skill point costs for some tiers. Unfortunately, I spent all weekend gathering skill data (again), so all I saw was that 3rd/racial healing skills were reduced to 3 points. Did the utility or elite costs change at all? —Dr Ishmael 18:03, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, they did. Now it goes like this:
- Utility: Tier 1= 1 point, Tier 2= 3 points, Tier 3= 6 points;
- Elite: Tier 1= 10 points, Tier 2= 30 points.
- I'm not sure if it's the same for all professions, and I totally forgot about the healing skills, check this image. Hope that helps. – Valento msg 18:09, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
- Alright, thanks. They also didn't change how many skills you have to buy to unlock the next tier (5 per utility tier, 2 per elite tier). Hmmm. Their note sounds a little too "broad" to be referring only to the healing skill reduction, but if nothing else changed, then I guess that's all it was. Oh well. —Dr Ishmael 18:46, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
GW2 Master Fail?[edit]
- → moved from Guild Wars 2 Wiki talk:Community portal
Please I hope someone could clarify this, the br forum brought two videos that shows how nerfed the monsters are now (as of BWE3), I sure hope it isn't final:
In the first video the guardian doesn't have to move at all, I've done that skill challenge before this last BWE and it was harder, the second video must be a bug but I don't really know. – Valento msg 18:55, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
- This sort of discussion is more suited for the official forums (or user talk), since it has no impact to the wiki. —Dr Ishmael 19:29, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
not using skills' own icons in effects[edit]
Re: Template talk:Magic Find. The example you used, Signet of Restoration, actually no longer uses the skill icon, it now uses the healing icon for both effects.
But to your general point, it's an issue of simplifying the presentation to make the effects more readily understandable for the reader. Where the "special" effect uses the skill icon and then merely restates the skill's effect, like Assassin Signet does, it makes more sense to present it as a standard Duration effect (like the wiki page currently does) so that readers can understand immediately "this skill has a duration of 30s", rather than present the special icon and all the redundant text and make the reader expend more effort to parse out the only important bit of information. —Dr Ishmael 21:20, 6 August 2012 (UTC)
- Hum, is it gonna happen for all effects in all skills? Actually this is very good for the template (taking out that image parameter) and therefore simpler for our build calc to save space in sprite set image, it would be very hard to gather all icons. Anyways, the thing is that I really learned to like verbatim in this wiki, although the effects aren't really verbatim (i.e. bleeding not showing the damage just like the in-game's tooltip with duration inclosed in ()'s) due to redundancy. – Valento msg 21:26, 6 August 2012 (UTC)
- Verbatim is fine for text, like the description itself, but for lists of data like the effects, it's better to focus on a clean and usable presentation. —Dr Ishmael 21:32, 6 August 2012 (UTC)
Skills id[edit]
Good job on updating every skill with the respective id. Keep on! ^^ --W.Wolf (talk) 03:37, 12 January 2014 (UTC)
- Whoa thanks! Actually it's pretty simple, you just link the hell out of them (10 per sending) prepending with /wiki in-game... then it'll open the wiki search on your browser informing that there aren't any skills with those ids, then you just copy the ids and edit their respective linked skills. :) – Valento msg 03:40, 12 January 2014 (UTC)
- What's up with Life Leech? You linked two completely different skills but they both have the same name. What's the in-game difference between the two? Psycho Robot (talk) 04:52, 14 January 2014 (UTC)
- That's how all healing/utility/elite skills work, I'm pretty sure. —Dr Ishmael 05:43, 14 January 2014 (UTC)
- Yeah there are two cases for multi-ids that I'm aware of:
- * Downed and drowning skills, despite being the same they are separated ids (e.g. Life Leech)
- * Universal skills available to all professions, their ids differ depending on the profession (e.g. Antitoxin Spray)
- Not sure but maybe if I Conjure Lightning Hammer to some other profession their skills will have different ids (I have to confirm that). – Valento msg 10:48, 14 January 2014 (UTC)
- Yeah there are two cases for multi-ids that I'm aware of:
- btw, if users don't respond after the first few comments, another 11 on the same user talk page probably isn't going to achieve anything :p these questions belong on Template talk:Skill infobox. -Chieftain Alex 11:23, 20 January 2014 (UTC)
- Fair enough. Thanks! 177.19.238.133 12:51, 20 January 2014 (UTC)
banner skills[edit]
Stab, Inspire, Sprint, and Plant Standard are used by all banners, not only Banner of Defense. We left that out of the infobox because we don't really have a way to handle that properly. —Dr Ishmael 18:10, 17 September 2014 (UTC)
- Yikes! I'm undoing (man, you're fast!). I'll handle these differently in the script hehe :D – Valento msg 18:11, 17 September 2014 (UTC)
Books[edit]
if you can interact with it, then it probably gets the same treatment as this one. -Chieftain Alex 20:30, 5 November 2014 (UTC)
- Already ahead of ya Alex. --Ventriloquist 20:45, 5 November 2014 (UTC)
- I've added a bunch of book text from the new LS update, but the formatting is very basic, I haven't added many links and I've run out of time to edit them for the moment. Any chance you could bring 'em up to scratch? If you're REALLY bored, you could grab the file in my note here and add the rest of the Priory books yourself ;) Otherwise I'll get them up some time later.-- MrSmiles 23:53, 5 November 2014 (UTC)
Old Friends.[edit]
- I dont know if this is the right place to talk(new to Wiki and stuff XD) but just wanted to have an space to talk and ask like billions of questions :> Keymaster (talk) 17:33, 23 December 2014 (UTC)
- First question...how in the frozen hell, can i get the "table of content" in mah page?Plz senpai show the ways :/ Keymaster (talk) 17:33, 23 December 2014 (UTC)
- It is! I always keep a Recent Changes tab open, there are helpful links up above and also on left sidebar. As a kind tip, always sign your comments on talk pages by appending four tildes (~~~~) to them. :)
- About your question, you can force Table of Contents to show up by adding __TOC__ to the very beginning of your userpage. – Valento msg 17:29, 23 December 2014 (UTC)
{{Recipe }}
- Most templates default certain info based on PAGENAME, if you want a specific one you have to provide an additional name parameter, as such:
{{recipe|name=Gift of Lightning}}
{{recipe|name=Gift of Lightning}}
- This is template's page (with documentation). :) – Valento msg 17:48, 23 December 2014 (UTC)
- As far as I know you can't. These infoboxes have their display property set to inline-block, and have a clear:both breakline afterwards (these things are unchangeable). :/
- You can, however, manually create a table using Standard Table Design Template! (it's very common, take for example my characters table) :D – Valento msg 18:02, 23 December 2014 (UTC)
Thank you Keymaster (talk) 18:09, 23 December 2014 (UTC)
armor gallery categories[edit]
That change you just made is unnecessary - creating categories that only contain a single page is pointless. Unless there's something else you're going to do with that? —Dr Ishmael 14:20, 24 December 2014 (UTC)
youtubes[edit]
So I found this video.. can we share this on the Guild Initiative Headquarters page? Surely it's not illegal or anything? -- Flakkenmarsh (talk) 23:07, 25 June 2015 (UTC)
- I wouldn't link to it if I were you. ^^ – Valento msg 23:24, 25 June 2015 (UTC)
- #sadface alrighty then. ..still cool though :P
- hehe.. hehe... try the link now :D Flakkenmarsh (talk) 23:36, 25 June 2015 (UTC)

simplify dealing with userspace page name stuff[edit]
Use {{FULLPAGENAME}} instead of {{PAGENAME}} in the template.--Relyk ~ talk < 11:41, 7 July 2015 (UTC)
- I tried, but things are weird because it seems to return one thing, while trait icon and trait description templates expec other. x.x – Valento msg 11:42, 7 July 2015 (UTC)
- It looks like #ask is returning a link, but {{Trait icon}}, etc expects a plain text. – Valento msg 11:43, 7 July 2015 (UTC)
New skill pages[edit]
While it's nice to document them before ANet's official release, it's unnecessary to add quotations describing the skills to each article. It willjust eventually gets replaced with skill facts once the blog post goes up, so having an empty page for a few hours isn't bad compared to removing the descriptions on each page. —Ventriloquist 14:11, 22 July 2015 (UTC)
Aftershock[edit]
Proof in "Meet the Tempest" article from ArenaNet [1]
•“Aftershock!”: Emanate a powerful earthen force around yourself, crippling enemies. After a short delay, an aftershock ripples forth, immobilizing enemies in its wake.
- Good catch, and yeah we'll have to wait and see. I think even the animations aren't final (look at Overload Water and Overload Earth lol!) – Valento msg 22:29, 24 July 2015 (UTC)
metabattle and job queue[edit]
I see you got SMW running. Did the issue start occurring after SMW being implemented? Any time you make changes to a semantic template, any pages querying those properties need to be updated and this all gets pushed into the job queue. That's going to be every single page on metabattle. This leads to large job queues, so that's the first thing I would check.
For example, your {{trait tooltip}} template has three query calls on the top level, and then makes another query in {{trait template format}}, which uses another template format. Queries in result formats can be expensive and these kinds of queries can start approaching the template depth limit. Metabattle doesn't have thousands of pages with queries, but it's really easy to kill stuff messing with semantic templates. Templates like {{Weapon skill pull}} query for each weapon skill individual and make second-level queries for the same along with the {{skill tooltip}}.
If you are using javascript on top of that, you can get into situations where the pages aren't being cached because javascript forces the queries to be run every time the page is loaded. I don't know if you've used any javascript that way yet.--Relyk ~ talk < 15:59, 20 January 2016 (UTC)
- Yeah, I see how those templates may hit hard. I tried the most I learned here, but maybe there are ways to optimize the tooltip templates. --– Valento msg 16:08, 20 January 2016 (UTC)
- Nested templates: Skillbar → Skillbar standard → Skillbar weapon → Weapon skill pull → Arraymap with string functions and #ask
- It should probably do a hardcoded lookup (switch statement) on which skills are in the bar (ANet doesn't rename stuff too often), then pull the tooltip + icon in one go (for each skill) with #ask. When I'm not pretending to do job applications I'll bash out a template. -Chieftain Alex 16:44, 20 January 2016 (UTC)
- The template depth thing scared me the other day. MB (Metabattle) is close to having pages which can't be rendered depending on the amount of template usage. Would it be simpler if I went through all the skills and just add another property, like displayable? – Valento msg 16:50, 20 January 2016 (UTC)
- Right now I use this. – Valento msg 16:57, 20 January 2016 (UTC)
- Reason why I split tooltips into tooltip and tooltip format is because I didn't quite understand how to retrieve smw info about a skill in a way that each property shows up as a parameter. I could create a lot of #vars, but I'm not sure if it would suck too much RAM. – Valento msg 17:09, 20 January 2016 (UTC)
Map bonus rewards "crit"[edit]
Re this edit, if you take a look at any of the form pages, you'll find that every 20th reward is 10x. Provided you count how many rewards you've received so far, it is guaranteed. So there isn't really a random "crit" chance at all. -Chieftain Alex 17:21, 1 March 2016 (UTC)
- Oh, really? Could you please adjust what I've written so folks are aware of this? :D --– Valento msg 17:27, 1 March 2016 (UTC)
Bloodstone Fen / Ember Bay[edit]
Yeah those won't work on the form. (No data on https://wiki.guildwars2.com/index.php?title=Template:Map_bonus_reward_data&action=edit) -Chieftain Alex 19:18, 12 October 2016 (UTC)
