pywikibot logins

Just a heads up if you hadn't noticed. Apparently logging-in the way we've been doing is deprecated.

WARNING: API warning (login): Fetching a token via action=login is deprecated. Use action=query&meta=tokens&type=login instead.

WARNING: API warning (login): Main-account login via action=login is deprecated and may stop working without warning. To continue login with action=login, see Special:BotPasswords. To safely continue using main-account login, see action=clientlogin.

I haven't looked into it yet, but it might be worthwhile to keep in mind. -Darqam 21:00, 25 April 2017 (UTC)

That message has been there for at least a year since they added the new tokens.
I've completely stopped using pywikibot, so perhaps they've updated their code since I last tried. The token failure prevented me from deleting pages - I don't know anything about performing page edits with pywikibot.
Since I only used pywikibot for moving, deleting and restoring pages, i wrote my own browser-based bot User:AWB Alex/editing robot. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 06:41, 26 April 2017 (UTC)
Oh ok, well I might look into making the actual bot token at some point if it breaks my editing for pywikibot, but until then I'll ignore it and change when needed.
I'm assuming you run that bot of yours in scratchpad? -Darqam 16:07, 26 April 2017 (UTC)
Yes.
  1. Log into the wiki using your robot account.
  2. Load the page and execute the script in scratchpad.
  3. Fill in your edit summary.
  4. Make a list of pages separated by newlines. Paste into the big box on the left.
  5. Select an option from the dropdown menu. Press run.

Linked worlds

FYI: empty tables can also happen on NA reset. Back when I monitored the API more carefully it would return no matches for any region while one of the regions reset. I ignored this problem in the initial concept, but seeing as the widget is now used on all the wikis, it might as well handle the wvw reset times gracefully. You would have to count the EU and NA matchups returned from API and show a "no matchups in this group" table row if they are at 0. Might even retry in this situation. --Tera (talk) 20:28, 28 April 2017 (UTC)

Sounds good to me, thanks Daniel! -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 22:30, 28 April 2017 (UTC)

Your uploads and a question/request

I saw you were uploading the pics for the next achievement A Henge Away from Home. Nice that makes it all easier :). Now about my question. For many collection items in that series i currently use one icon for several items cause it has not been uploaded yet. Should i keep it like that or can you upload them. I tried once with Propagation of the Fire Orchid but i am unsure cause there is already the same icon uploaded. If its easier for you could you do that? If we need to change what i described earlier. Gandlos (talk) 18:14, 8 May 2017 (UTC)

Oh dear I didn't realise that Darqam had uploaded a bunch of item icons already for the tier 4 backpiece. It's easier to delete the random filenames on Darqam's page than figure out which is which imo (I'll do that now).
If you tell me which icons you want I can upload them. If the icon is already on the wiki and unused, you can use the "move" tab at the top to rename the file. If it's used elsewhere, you can specify "| icon = xyz.png" in the infobox to use a file from another page. --Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 18:24, 8 May 2017 (UTC)
Up until now i used the icons of A Flower for Kodama and the other 3 for the other flowerlike things that appear on the achievements afterwards. Doing the same for runestones and the runestone rest items. You uploaded the same icons for the fourth achievement that are used in 1-3 again :). Now i know for sure how to handle that all. Thanks! Gandlos (talk) 18:32, 8 May 2017 (UTC)
Okay I finally understand (long day). We try to have only one unique file if the same file is used across multiple items. Use the infobox parameter and I'll delete the duplicates I've uploaded :X -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 19:03, 8 May 2017 (UTC)
Sry to bother again but how do i do that? I'm new to some of that stuff. :P Gandlos (talk) 19:15, 8 May 2017 (UTC)
If the icon looks the same ingame for two items, then just like you already did is perfect. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 19:36, 8 May 2017 (UTC)
Ahhh i missunderstood you >.<. I thought you wanted me to mark the ones that need to be deleted. Now i get it :D Gandlos (talk) 19:40, 8 May 2017 (UTC)
Nah, I can figure out what needs deleting ;) -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 19:44, 8 May 2017 (UTC)

Achievement details

Regarding your comment on a Flashpoint (achievements) update, here's an example comparing the in-game UI to the API result and wiki template:

User Spannu Achievement interface example.jpg (achievement details panel - click for bigger) User Spannu Achievement hover interface example.jpg (popup summary on mouse hover from main interface)

[
  {
    "id": 3407,
    "name": "Arachnogenesis",
    "description": "\"HEL-LO, WEB-BY'S MOTH-ER\" — Anonymous Golem",
    "requirement": "Slay the champion webby mother near Ancient Hollow.",
    "locked_text": "",
    "type": "Default",
    "flags": [],

      {
        "count": 1,
        "points": 3
      }
    ]

The current convention for the template uses the first segment of white text as the description, the italicized grey segment as the flavor, and the white text describing the task for the tiers. Spannu (talk) 21:17, 8 May 2017 (UTC)

wiktionary

It's actually used by at 20 or so main space pages and about a dozen or so talk pages. Would you mind if it was re-added back to Special:Interwiki? - Doodleplex 00:03, 10 May 2017 (UTC)

Also is it okay to delete talk pages that got blanked like Aqua Surge's talk page? - Doodleplex 01:42, 10 May 2017 (UTC)
Oversight on my part, i deleted any non-gw2 or non-mediawiki interwikis. I've re-added it.
Depends on the previous content before blanking. I don't know if Water Spirit heals other spirits when it dies. --Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 06:26, 10 May 2017 (UTC)
Unrelated to Wiktionary, but related to other admin-y-ish questions, should User:ていせい redirect to User:Teisei and the talk page be moved from "User talk:ていせい" to "User talk:Teisei" since the account got merged? Also if the contents of a talk page got moved to another talk page leaving the first talk page blank, can the first one be deleted, such as in the case of Cloak's talk page? - Doodleplex 01:57, 16 May 2017 (UTC)

Gem Store Vendor Table Anomalies

I just noticed that some items didn't display their prices on the item pages again (I was looking at Aetherblade Heavy Armor Skin), and others had the price info duplicated (Sloth Backpack (package) and Butterfly Wings Backpack (package)). Your nifty trick of clearing and readding the tables to the Gem Store page worked, but that's probably not a solution for eternity. What is causing the issue and how do we (in other words: you) prevent it from reoccuring? User Incarnazeus Signature.pngtalk 20:17, 18 May 2017 (UTC)

We end up with too many SMW subobjects (each gem store table row creates one), the page just cannot handle it properly. Long term... stop documenting gemstore stuff :p -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 21:37, 18 May 2017 (UTC)
Hrm, I see. Hey, I'll stop documenting when ANet stops adding new stuff to the store. Can't we work around this problem by splitting the /Style page up again? User Incarnazeus Signature.pngtalk 07:35, 19 May 2017 (UTC)
Yeah, couldn't just futher splitting resolve the issue? It's not the most ideal solution, but it would take the load off, and I'd really hate to see Gem Store items undocumented. —Ventriloquist 07:53, 19 May 2017 (UTC)

Template Shenanigans

Does blanking a page and then restoring the content fix the icons for things like Overload Water(which is showing up as broken on List of elementalist skills) and User:Erasculio/Necrotic Stab? Also any idea what happened to the event infobox? It seems nearly all of the events that aren't HoT are now wanting to be in a category for events in the area instead of the zone, such as for Reclaim Nebo Terrace from the centaurs and Help Aaminah draw out and fight the Risen krait priest. - Doodleplex 20:50, 25 May 2017 (UTC)

The problem was with the zone page in the case of Gendarran Fields; for reasons unknown, it was no longer setting Property:Has location type. This meant that the event infobox was successfully finding which page the event area was located in, but then not knowing what type of location the parent location was, it used the event area as the category fallback. I had to blank Gendarran Fields and then revert it to get it to work. I suspect the zone pages may simply be too long in terms of things being parsed by wikicode. I would propose that we don't display the map bonus reward on that page. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 06:34, 26 May 2017 (UTC)

Skirmish Supervisor

Just wanted to point out that the armor sold by the Skirmish Supervisor in the first tab Skirmish Supervisor#Triumphant Ascended Armor is ascended armor and not exotic. So I think we should create each of the Triumphant armor pieces with (ascended) i.e. Triumphant Hero's Masque (ascended). But before creating several new pages I just wanted to make sure that this is correct way. Tolkyria (talk) 18:34, 6 June 2017 (UTC)

Can we please create an article using {{item variant table row}} instead, on one page for both rarities. If I can get into WvW I'll find the item ids (long wait sorry). -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 18:36, 6 June 2017 (UTC)
Ok, that's why I asked. But if the selectable stats differ, the exotic version has only 12 selectable stats, the ascended might have all non-Hot or even all HoT stats, does the {{item variant table row}} still work? P.S. There's also a vendor at the Edge of the Mists spawn. Tolkyria (talk) 18:43, 6 June 2017 (UTC)
I'm currently in the edge of the mists. It'll work np. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 18:49, 6 June 2017 (UTC)

Much appreciated

Thanks for getting the nav and base pages for the armours done. I've got to head out for the day, but a nice dent has been made in the list. You're right, Darqam's site does the job perfectly. G R E E N E R 21:11, 7 June 2017 (UTC)

Well done you for having the patience to get the ball rolling.
Kinda related (copypaste on Mistforged Hero's weapons) - the api says the old weapons got changed such that they have the new prefixes available, hence ascended + exotic prefix selection would be the same. (numbers are different but I don't think a second dropdown is useful) -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 21:14, 7 June 2017 (UTC)
Interesting. My first test case for that came up with different prefix sets (the exotic weapons only had core prefixes). I think I tested on the rifle, but I've got it all closed down and am leaving the house. Will double-check things tonight. G R E E N E R 21:16, 7 June 2017 (UTC)
https://api.guildwars2.com/v2/items?ids=64269,81528 seems to be the same list - could be different ingame :/ -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 21:18, 7 June 2017 (UTC)
Figured out the flaw in my methodology. I didn't go all the way to the API; I used Darqam's site on the rifle, which is spitting out the pre-patch prefixes. I'll do a pass on the weapons and get them cleaned up. Thanks for catching that! 184.65.160.177 22:14, 7 June 2017 (UTC)
Jumping in quickly to say that I'm aware the items are static once I get a copy, I'm currently working on a way to have a "update this item" button like I do on the original page, but it's being silly atm. -Darqam 23:20, 7 June 2017 (UTC)
Might I suggest the update button does a batch at a time? Perhaps +-100 IDs from the one which is requested, which would possibly grab other related items that may have been updated. Clearly I know nothing about how your magic works, but I'm willing to guess at it! G R E E N E R 00:39, 8 June 2017 (UTC)

(Reset indent) At the moment I'm not comfortable throwing such a wide net for 'blind updates'. I've just finished making an update page which will update one item at a time (link for each item below it's infoboxe(s). I can however take a look at making a page which updates entries based on a given range of IDs. Although honestly this is going to end up pretty low on my priority list since it seems rather rare the case where this would be useful, and it took me probably 30 seconds to manually update all the mistforged weapons by hand. I do like the idea however and will take note. Anyway, this to say the weapons in questions should be good now, and you should be able to update anything else that's outdated. -Darqam 00:59, 8 June 2017 (UTC)

Perfect thanks! And nice touch with that page break, as well. G R E E N E R 02:27, 8 June 2017 (UTC)

For future reference, do you know the source of that SMW bug concerning Sublime Mistforged Triumphant Hero's Brigandine? Was it the initial | set = Sublime Mistforged Triumphant Hero's armor (medium) parameter? G R E E N E R 21:00, 8 June 2017 (UTC)

No idea, unfortunately I think it's random... though usually when the wiki is having a hard time processing something else whilst the edit doesn't fully submit (e.g. the browser crashes before fully loading the cached version when first created). I wasn't certain that delete and restore would work, but I'll do that in future. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 21:02, 8 June 2017 (UTC)
That would match my old laptop's random disconnects from the router (or the router's random rejection of my laptop; I still don't know which to blame). Sometimes edits are left spooling on my side, and I'm having to check the RC to see if they've completed or if I need to restart. I'm not one to click "Save page" more than once, but I will backtrack if nothing went through. G R E E N E R 21:07, 8 June 2017 (UTC)

Allowing Armor infobox and Armor skin set table to allow multiple values

New Anet concept, as pointed out on Talk:Sublime Mistforged Triumphant Hero's Brigandine. Anet now lets armor pieces unlock multiple skins. I've created the proper skin pages, Mistforged Triumphant Hero's Raiment for example, but {{armor infobox}} doesn't allow for multiple skins atm. And of course, {{Armor skin set table}} isn't working so well on Mistforged Triumphant Hero's armor (light). Fortunately there is no ghost of a skin this time; the value is meant to be captured. G R E E N E R 17:32, 15 June 2017 (UTC)

I haven't actually seen any ingame proof that both skins unlock once the Sublime piece is obtained. I have however edited both templates concerned. Separate multiple skins with ";". -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 18:20, 15 June 2017 (UTC)
Good point. I don't know the exact mechanism for the unlock, and was going off of what was stated in the Guild Chat episode (that you'll get both versions). Thanks for the change on both of those templates <-- Says the person who now has caffeine in their system and doesn't feel so grouchy. G R E E N E R 18:48, 15 June 2017 (UTC)

Windows 10

So at the weekend I finally let my PC load the creator update (1703) for W10. Everything worked fine immediately after, but then Windows has applied a second update which prevents GW2 from opening. Undefined default template parameters

Hey Alex, not sure if you can enlighten me. See, we have {{Skill infobox}} and there are a handful of {{#ifeq:{{{upkeep|0}}}|0||...etc store upkeep to smw}}. Why does it accept to default to 0 in the template, and not here? There are pages with upkeep stated but no value at all, and the template respects that not showing the value itself. I'm so confused. :( – Valento msg 21:30, 30 June 2017 (UTC)

Mediawiki has always hated when you specify parameters but leave it blank. I don't see any real problem with how it has responded to your test cases. adjusted copy of your test. Sometimes you need a combination of #if and #ifeq to think through all the scenarios. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 18:35, 10 July 2017 (UTC)

"thoughts on removing heartno and heartyes from the dialogue tree?"

I kind of like the hearts better — using images/icons wherever possible is often better than raw text I'd say. The hearts are pretty straightforward in their meaning after all. User Incarnazeus Signature.pngtalk 11:22, 16 July 2017 (UTC)

API link borkedness

So on the page Black Lion Delivery Box the link to API is kinda borked because ids are not in the infobox but elsewhere. Would it be possible to implement a fix such that if there is no id it just doesn't show up? As is it just leads to an error page which is just not helpful at all. -Darqam 16:01, 21 July 2017 (UTC)

Why not just move the IDs from the table to the infobox? Or have them both in the infobox and in the table? —Ventriloquist 16:18, 21 July 2017 (UTC)
I want to agree that it should be in the infobox, but that's gonna create a muddle - if you smw query for an item with an id set in both the infobox AND item variant table row, then it'll give you two different items. Why wasn't the api link wrapped in an if statement like almost every other parameter in that template? Pretty basic omission :) -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 16:27, 21 July 2017 (UTC)

Filter tables

What would you guys think to some tables having the ability to filter on them, much like filtered tables in excel? -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 22:24, 21 July 2017 (UTC)

I'm trying to think of a scenario where that would be useful, or effective. For instance, Attribute combinations has many cells which appear to be repeated, but would the filter consider these to be different?
  • | {{attribute icon|Precision}}
  • |{{attribute icon|Precision}}
I'll keep looking at random pages to see where I'd appreciate having a filter, but if you've got some examples, I'd love to see them. G R E E N E R 03:31, 23 July 2017 (UTC)

Yes, I still use monobook. Yes, I'm sure if I changed it wouldn't be a problem.

Hey Alex, just noticed that the sizing of the sub-headings in monobook is wrong in Firefox (Safari is fine). Taking a look at User:Greener/Sandbox using monobook has Sub-Heading 4 bigger than Sub-Heading 3. The MediaWiki:Vector.css has the sizing all lovingly done, but MediaWiki:Monobook.css uses "font-size-adjust:" and I'm hesitant to test changes directly on that page. the same sizes.

Mind delving into that .css to see what values would be best to see why Firefox might be messed up? And yes, I know I am asking you to use monobook... G R E E N E R 03:53, 23 July 2017 (UTC)

Great spot on H4 being bigger than H3. Yep font-size-adjust was the culprit. I have removed all instances of it from the stylesheet with these edits. Hopefully this is what you were asking for.
With subsequent edits I've increased the tab heights and fiddled with the left menu. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 11:51, 23 July 2017 (UTC)
Monobook isn't so bad when I've finally gotten around to creating ATools in monobook too. I found out how horrible vector is yesterday when i tried to write a mobile css from scratch for it. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 12:41, 23 July 2017 (UTC)

Achievement template

Doodle recommended I talk to you about an issue we're having regarding the achievement templates (here's our discussion, for reference). She says they're prone to tiling incorrectly when there isn't text of some sort inbetween the templates; her current solution is to insert headers, but I'd like to get the bug fixed because I feel (and she agrees) that the headers are redundant. Would you be able to shed some light on what's going on? --Idris (talk) 21:39, 28 July 2017 (UTC)

Doodle has a wide screen, and every STDT table on the wiki has display:inline-block in its CSS, so they appear on the same line. The previous fix was to add "display:table" with the style parameter, but let's just make them all use this. template edited. Let me know if the problem persists. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 08:26, 29 July 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for the fix! I never noticed any issues to begin with, so I probably won't notice if they persist, but if they do I'm sure I'll be alerted in the form of an irritated Doodle reverting my changes once I start removing headers again. :p --Idris (talk) 08:43, 29 July 2017 (UTC)

how do I shot api

Hey, I noticed you created Widget:Event table recently, which is super helpful! Are there similar tables for other stuff that shows up on maps? Or even just an API endpoint? I can't find anything in the API that looks like it would list, for example, mastery insight coordinates, though I'm sure it must exist somewhere because I know you found the coords to Siren's Landing Insight: Buoyant Bough. --Idris (talk) 20:18, 31 July 2017 (UTC)

Heya. The endpoint for all map related stuff is strangely v2/continents (but not maps, which provides you with clues as to which pages you need from continents (if you don't pull all the data at once)).
Taking Siren's Bay as an example:
  {
    "id": 1203,
    "name": "Siren's Landing",
    "min_level": 80,
    "max_level": 80,
    "default_floor": 1,
    "type": "Public",
    "floors": [
      1,
      3,
      2,
      0
    ],
    "region_id": 3,
    "region_name": "Ruins of Orr",
    "continent_id": 1,
    "continent_name": "Tyria",
    "map_rect": [
      [
        -39936,
        -15360
      ],
      [
        39936,
        15360
      ]
    ],
    "continent_rect": [
      [
        14234,
        25216
      ],
      [
        17562,
        26496
      ]
    ]
  }
  1. https://api.guildwars2.com/v2/maps?ids=all - this endpoint would tell you every map's high level information (map id, floor id, region id, continent id). The text above is the bit related to Siren's Landing (also reachable via ?ids=1203)
  2. This shows Siren's Landing as having the following important bits of information: it's unique map id is 1203, the region id is 3 (Ruins of Orr), the continent id is 1 (Tyria), and four floors are available (0,1,2,3 -- in this example I shall use floor 2). A floor is like a level on the world map (page up/down).
  3. If we take those bits of information we can use the continents endpoint like so: https://api.guildwars2.com/v2/continents/1/floors/2/regions/3/maps/1203
  4. 'mastery_points' is right at the bottom, you can see their ids and coordinates there too.
If you're willing to wait for it to load, we've got a fairly thorough map widget here: [[Widget:World map]], but no table beneath it! I am thinking of putting together a similar widget to Widget:Achievement table and Widget:Event table for the world map, it'll take some thought - though basically it'll be like this -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 20:46, 31 July 2017 (UTC)

Bot edits for info box went wrong

It seems that the edits of your bot to change to the generic "story info box" made some unwanted changes of the entries for the "Mystory" template and removed the "text=" part. So now a lot of living world pages have a broken "My story " section. I've started to correct it, but it is wide spread and probably a better work for a bot. Balwin (talk) 16:33, 5 August 2017 (UTC)

Object formatting is buggy

Hey Alex. I recently rewrote Guild Wars 2 Wiki:Object formatting, but now every time I go to the page, it skips straight to the Screenshots section. I have no idea if this issue is on my end or not, but clearing the cache, rebooting the browser, and doing a remove-all-content edit have all failed to fix the problem. --Idris (talk) 20:50, 6 August 2017 (UTC)

The line
{{#forminput:form=Object infobox|new window}}
gains focus (the cursor) upon page load, hence it scrolls down to meet it. I don't think we should be linking to any semantic form in any place on the wiki, they're crap. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 21:08, 6 August 2017 (UTC)
Also mentioning things like semantic mediawiki is a bad idea. It's just confusing. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 21:09, 6 August 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for the fix. I'd like the keep the Semantic MediaWiki information -- maybe not with the same wording, but I think it would be useful to let newbies know that there's a reason we use special templates instead of simple bullet lists for certain sections. I would have appreciated having that knowledge spelled out when I was a newbie. --Idris (talk) 21:15, 6 August 2017 (UTC)
I would much rather new editors submit stuff and break things, than reach a paragraph on a page linking to the most-complex-stuff-on-the-wiki and give up. These copy/paste pages are aimed at new editors, we really can't afford to lose them early on. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 21:27, 6 August 2017 (UTC)
Hmm, ok. I would really like to include links to the documentation for the templates being used, at least, so what if I added it back in as "Other templates" or somesuch, with the SMW references scrubbed out? --Idris (talk) 21:36, 6 August 2017 (UTC)

I tried to soften up the wording a bit on Guild Wars 2 Wiki:Object formatting. Rules scare people away. Perceived high-bars do the same. Skill table rows and charges

With Ishy (who made the templates in the first place) gone I figure you're the best person to bring this up to: Since skill charges are in the game now, the templates such as Weapon skill table row are really going to need to display their charge count and charge cooldown in some way since the short cooldowns they have means that you really don't get any useful information about how much you can use them from the skill tables --Gimmethegepgun (talk) 01:24, 9 August 2017 (UTC)

Agreed. Last time I went down that rabbit hole I got lost and never came out again. I do not know who else understands the code enough. Anzenketh (talk) 14:08, 9 August 2017 (UTC)
Sure I could edit the template, but how is the ammo system any different to any other skill fact that isn't displayed by the weapon skill table row? -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 18:01, 9 August 2017 (UTC)
Because the ammo is indicative of how often it can actually be used, just like cooldown, initiative cost, energy cost, and energy maintenance are. Seeing Throw Bolas with a 1 second cooldown gives you no usable information about how much one would expect to be able to use it. Or my personal example, looking at the Deadeye page I had no idea that Sniper's Cover had any kind of limitation to how much it could be used other than the paltry 3 initiative --Gimmethegepgun (talk) 20:58, 9 August 2017 (UTC)

Crystal Oasis achievements are buggy.

Take a look at what {{achievement|name=Just a Sip}} does. No idea what's causing it. --Idris (talk) 04:55, 12 August 2017 (UTC)

There are only 4 achievement subobjects on the achievement page. The last few are listed as 1651 as the id. Unfortunately, Alex figured he was clever enough to use the achievement id for the subobject name and all those achievements are getting clobbered into one subobject. The fix would be to switch back to the original code that enumerates the subobjects like every other subobject template as that guarantees no name collision.--Relyk ~ talk < 05:13, 12 August 2017 (UTC)

Map1 line in infobox

Hi! I believe you're the one who fixed the second image on Soul Cell Generator for me. I'm still having trouble with the map1 line, on Blood Legion Turncoat. I've refreshed the page, forced a null edit, and I can't find anything I'm doing differently from other pages that use it — can I trouble you to take a look at it, please? --Faelys 15:56, 12 August 2017 (UTC)

Same fix as last time applied to Blood Legion Turncoat... i.e. I retyped it, and although visually it looked fine in the source before, it didn't work.
Have you got some kind of international keyboard capable of inserting unusual "spaces"? Or perhaps you're copying an example from somewhere in particular?
var a = $('#wpTextbox1').val();
var position = a.indexOf(String.fromCharCode(160));
if ( position !== -1 ) {
  console.log('Position of non-breaking space character: ', position);
  console.log( a.substr(0,position), '<<<nbsp>>>' );
} else {
  console.log('Did not find non-breaking space')
}
The above javascript tells me it was a non-breaking space. I think you've copied some other page which has the source of the issue on it, if you can tell me where you got it from I'll go fix it. --Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 18:12, 12 August 2017 (UTC)
I typed it up, but yeah, I am using the canadian multilingual keyboard, so that might be it. I'll remember that next time, thank you! --Faelys 22:32, 12 August 2017 (UTC)

I just happened upon a page which uses the {{Item infobox}} and I think something got broken. For other items without variables it seems to work just fine. Request for support of toggle-style collapsible tables

Hello there! I've been working on some nav box rework to better suit our current and future needs and I'd like to implement them soon, unless someone presents good arguments why the status quo would be better. However, I wanted to use a toggle between a concise and a detailed view (so that we're not repeating ourselves but the navs aren't too big by default), and after looking around to see whether there's already support for that (I didn't find any), and after analyzing CollapsibleTables.js to see how I could make it work without rewriting the script, I found an admittedly somewhat hacky way (the script doesn't make it easy to hook into, to be fair). I used {{Custom CSS}} for now (see this for an example), but if I'm to implement these for proper use, I'll need to have these styles added to Common.css:

tr.collapse-reverse {
   display: none;
}

tr.collapse-reverse[style*="display: none"] {
   display: table-row !important;
}

Would it be possible to have it arranged (with whatever class name, if you'd think of something nicer)? Or do you know of a better, less hacky way to achieve the same result?

Thank you. User Noxx Sig.png 20:31, 26 August 2017 (UTC)

I loathe collapsible navs but you've made something tolerable, so good work on your part.
I've provisionally added the requested chunks of CSS beneath the navs section. Can you think of any occurences where we would want this functionality not within a nav template (wondering if I should add .nav before it). -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 08:38, 27 August 2017 (UTC)
Also I took a look at switching collapsibleTables to use class="hide" instead of style="display:none", but apparently it's slower. If it had been the same speed I would have changed it without a second thought. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 08:47, 27 August 2017 (UTC)
Hmm okay that didn't work when i added it to the common.css - I'd guess the css added by the custom widget is loaded later than the table is redrawn using collapsibleTables.js. If we want your navs to work, we might need to use a class in that script after all. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 08:53, 27 August 2017 (UTC)
Ok I wrote a different version of collapsibleTables.js using "hide". I'll have a think about if this can be simplified using similar logic to demarcateDialogue in the common.js. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 10:40, 27 August 2017 (UTC)
I find that really strange, I always thought that matching CSS rules apply regardless of the order the page loads and changes in. If I didn't know better, I'd think it didn't work in Common.css for caching reasons, but I trust that you know what you're doing. Seriously thank you for trying to make this work! User Noxx Sig.png 11:07, 27 August 2017 (UTC)
"know what you're doing" well I added it to common.css, removed your custom css widget and previewed it, upon which it functioned as if the class hadn't been added at all. I was confused too (I did purge my cache)
plus, if you add the css chunk to your own personal css you'll see it doesn't work either. (unless my browser is being weird like when it wasn't loading that font lol) -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 12:45, 27 August 2017 (UTC)
Huh, I somehow completely forgot those personal stylesheets exist (and now I finally realize why on earth did I get the double slashes in the font URL, not so much why I had done that, though...).
Anyway, you're right, it doesn't work with those and it seems like I found out why: the stylesheet it loads is minified and it removed the space in the [style*="display: none"] selector, which is (at least in Edge, IE, Firefox, Chrome and Android Chrome where I tested it) necessary. If that's the case making the collapse work through classes should fix this, unless it causes an unacceptable performance hit. User Noxx Sig.png 13:18, 27 August 2017 (UTC)
I've made the minimum number of changes to the existing script to get it to work with class="hide". I did start creating a 50 liner version in jquery (it's functional), but by the time I've added all the button text stuff and corner-cases, i expect it wouldn't be much different. When poke eventually reads this and sees that I've murdered his superfast collapsible script... -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 15:07, 27 August 2017 (UTC)
Thank you very much! Let's just hope he won't notice any slowdown... ^^
(On a serious note, I didn't run any benchmarks on the script speed, is it really that much slower through classes? If it was done this way for maximum speed, is it really better to loop over all rows in the table to set their style directly, rather than, say, just switching a class at the table level and leaving the row lookup to css? I can imagine the [style*="display: none"] being horrific performance-wise, but this doesn't seem that bad to me...) User Noxx Sig.png 15:39, 27 August 2017 (UTC)
As far as performance goes, I think Alex is referring to what went into this script when it was first suggested to roll our own collapsible tables solution. Back then, I actually did benchmarks to show off how much quicker we were compared to the solution they have been using on Wikipedia. Since then, a lot has changed: MediaWiki comes with built-in jQuery (I still don’t understand why this decision was made…), and there are multiple ways to have collapsible “areas”. Back then, this just wasn’t the case, so I was looking for a fast, dependency-free and cross-browser supported solution and rolled my own. I would say that both I and web technologies have changed a lot too since then, so I would probably write this very differently now.
I haven’t looked too closely at Alex’ changes yet but the diff doesn’t look too bad, so it’s probably okay. Performance degradation shouldn’t be an issue since browsers have improved substantially since back then anyway, and unless you introduce a completely new complexity (which doesn’t appear to be the case), I don’t see anything wrong with it. poke | talk 16:32, 27 August 2017 (UTC)
I try not to do anything too stupid (sometimes), and the test-cases seemed to work. I had a go at rewriting it but figured it wouldn't make much difference the way i was going about it. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 16:39, 27 August 2017 (UTC)

All gem store items

👋 Alex,

Ok so, I'm trying to figure out if there's a single wiki page/query I could find/run to get a sum total of all items presently listed as available on the gem store for the wiki. The end goal would be to be able to compare what's listed on the wiki vs what the magic gem store url says is available. If there's such a magic thinga-ma-jig I'd be happy to hear it, can't remember any off the top of my head. -Darqam 22:27, 29 August 2017 (UTC)

Okay its real early so bear with me. Firstly, you've seen we've got a widget (Widget:Gem Store catalogue) to pull stuff from the gem store webpage?
As for the query, it should be:
{{#ask: [[Has vendor::Gem Store]] [[Is historical::N]]
| ?Sells item
| offset = 0
| limit = 500
}}
edit: But I've just seen a fun bug where we've got the "Is historical" bit set to both true AND false on the same page, which totally needs fixing. >_< what the hell. easy fix, chieftain alex is such a retard
Since we store the different prices as different subobjects you'd have to filter the results for unique "Sells item" results. Plus there's over 500 stored values so you'd probably need to make at least two queries to get everything. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 06:08, 30 August 2017 (UTC)
Hmm I'm not immediately sure why the API tells me 623 "things" in their catalogue, and we only have 209 things listed as being sold in the gemstore. It seems they list packages and their contents separately? You'll have to do some digging to get anything useful out of the webpage. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 06:15, 30 August 2017 (UTC)
To start the digging off, begin with D724151B-F4CA-40A9-89B9-76CA2FA9D673 (Bat Wings Glider). My widget says its available but the item page Bat Wings Glider Combo says it isn't available right now. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 06:18, 30 August 2017 (UTC)
Yeah that page is really strange, and it will double list some items for some reasons. I'll take a look at the widget again but last I tried it it just showed nothing (like blank content). I might just work off that unless I see a reason to do something off-site. -Darqam 13:33, 30 August 2017 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Got the widget to work on my end (forgot to allow scripts through cors), and yeah there's definitely stuff that's wrong through that url. Bat wings aren't in live gemstore. Also I think there's something wrong with the widget, since for example Abaddon's mask is on the webpage, but not in widget output. -Darqam 14:15, 30 August 2017 (UTC)

You're right, category lifespan wasn't what I thought it was. Turned out that's mostly for the removing it from the "new items" category, and not "we remove it completely from the gemstore upon lifespan expiry". -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 18:22, 30 August 2017 (UTC)
My understanding is a tiny bit better now I've played with the childCategories from the catalogue url Widget:Test. I can't figure out how to display anything nicely with it though. Really all you need is the raw list of titles from https://2gemstore.staticwars.com/const/gw2/build80614/GemStore/en/catalog.23cb5c2c.js ("name") and compare with the wiki output. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 23:40, 30 August 2017 (UTC)

On the usage of epithets

I'd like to request that you not use any form of the word "retard", even if self-directed, like you did in the edit summary of this edit and in a comment here. If someone were just glancing at recent changes or looking at the history page for the first link, it would look like you were making a personal attack against another editor. But even if you had only used it in the second link where it was clear you were referring to yourself, I would still prefer you not use this term at all. --Cali (talk) 07:23, 30 August 2017 (UTC)

Template:ArenaNet content

Some pages have a Notes section and the CSS touches the headings and font outside the article. Can we put the article contents in a div and only apply the font and section CSS within the article div? (Coming Soon: Beta Version of Streaming Client)--Relyk ~ talk < 01:56, 31 August 2017 (UTC)

I'm not sure the original intent of Template:ArenaNet content was to combine it with Template:Verbatim. Since arenanet content is used at the start of the article (and this template does not contain the text content) I don't see how we can avoid it touching the notes section. Neither you nor I can be bothered editing every page to change this. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 06:30, 31 August 2017 (UTC)
So the custom css needs to be moved to {{verbatim}}?--Relyk ~ talk < 06:43, 31 August 2017 (UTC)
Precisely which template adds the custom CSS doesn't matter, the important thing about verbatim is it wraps around the content, i.e. you can add a wrapper div to Verbatim, assign it a class (e.g. "class=arenanetcontent") then adjust the CSS rules. Hey there, this might be out of the reasonable area for help, but Im admining a different wiki for a different game (https://exvius.gamepedia.com/UserProfile:Zyga) and Id like to improve the maps we're using to be interactive like the ones on here. If we could talk or if you could link me to a page to (steal) for that, I'd be very grateful. Sorry if this is just bothersome to you, I don't mean to waste your time. --Zyga21 (talk) 12:25, 31 August 2017 (UTC)

Hey. I am completely unfamiliar with Final Fantasy...
  • Take a glance at some of the widgets with "map" in the title linked from Help:Widgets. If I were picking one to start disassembling, I'd go for [[Widget:Zone map v2]] - if you remove "var skill_challenges" it's quite short.
  • I've documented the basics of what we have available on API:Maps. The example code at the bottom of that page is very basic compared to what we end up using on the map widgets, but that's where they all started from.
  • All of our widgets start by pulling in the JSON coordinate data, adding the interesting bits to layers, and then displaying them.
  • Although our JSON data is largely from the guildwars2 API (example), it is possible to create your own objects. At the top level its broken down into the different types; e.g. within a map you may have a name, a basic rectangular outline, some points of interest - and each point of interest has its own name, icon type and coordinate.
  • It is possible to assemble maps without an API, I've previously done it for Guild Wars 1. gww:Widget:World map. It's much less shiny than GW2 because it takes ages to capture the coordinates. The base map was pretty big so I cut it up into 256 pixel tiles - I don't think you'd have to bother with that if you're using an image overlay.
For a starting point, I'd add the "unproject" function from API:Maps to your widget, that way when you click anywhere on the map you can note down the coordinates. Hope this helps a bit. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 17:45, 31 August 2017 (UTC)
It does very much, thanks! --Zyga21 (talk) 19:30, 31 August 2017 (UTC)

Skirmish reward track

Regarding your remarks/questions at the page Skirmish reward track at the version history. The table just got copied from the PvP table, see PvP League#Rewards which still uses the icon modifing style you corrected at the Skirmish reward track page. Regarding the white text color, as far as I tested, it's the only readable colour. So during testing, it was always bothering me that we use only the closed chest and not the fancy opened one, I decided to try something similar to my table at WvW Skirmish Claim Ticket using both chests. For example compare Diamond Reward Closed.png and Diamond Reward Open.png.

My new table results can be seen at User:Tolkyria/Sandbox#Skirmish reward track, avoiding any image cropping, text over images, etc.., but using the nice opened chest, with sparkling gold in it. I thought you might be interested in this topic after your edit. --Tolkyria (talk) 10:11, 2 September 2017 (UTC)

Thanks, I've removed some of the remnants from the PvP table too.
In terms of how can we improve the Skirmish reward track table;
  • From your sandbox, I like the open chest images much more than the closed ones.
  • Two images per row isn't really helping me understand what's in the box (they're for illustration and a bit distracting), so I reckon we could just swap all the closed for open ones, and keep only one column of images.
  • I have temporarily added a black shadow effect to the overlay text which helps the text stand out.
  • I did take a look at knocking the background textures out, but all of the chests are different shapes (e.g. spikes).
Also, I don't want to sound mean spirited but the table on WvW Skirmish Claim Ticket would, imo, look better without the ticket/chest images: User:Chieftain Alex/sandbox5. The icon at the top of the page is sufficient, we don't need to repeat it every row (its a bit like repeating currency units in tables instead of just annotating the headers, except in this case the entire page is in the same currency) -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 13:01, 2 September 2017 (UTC)
Hihi, shouldn't mentioned the Ticket Page.. But nah, its ok, it's an overkill with the two chests, just don't look at my sandbox-table with about 20-30 chest images. I completely agree on the opened chests, thats why I tried to introduce them, resulting in a lack of readability. The black shadow helps indeed, but at the Diamond (repeatable) tier it starts to look wierd (there also a row-wise right-align is needed for "Diamond", not only for "(repeatable)"). I'll look at it on my sandbox and might add some comments later. --Tolkyria (talk) 13:17, 2 September 2017 (UTC)
Increased line height and added text-align:right to the parent div. Any better? -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 13:33, 2 September 2017 (UTC)
Yes, this is fine. I tried to just replace the closed chest with the opened ones, see here, there everything has to be recropped.. so I thought why not use the whole image, see here (250px, might be too big) or here (200px). And what about adding this chest images row head also to the Skirmish Claim Tickets, maybe in a size of 100px? --Tolkyria (talk) 13:41, 2 September 2017 (UTC)
Edit: The ticket table might get too big, see here.
Surrender, the chest images have no place on ticket tables!
We're overcomplicating this. User:Chieftain Alex/sandbox5#Skirmish reward track.
I've got a working theory where if you can't copy any wiki-table into excel and think it looks okay without formatting, it's too complicated. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 14:06, 2 September 2017 (UTC)
Ok, I give up, tickets will be your table, I definitly wanted too much, my idea was just to use both chest types: opened and closed.
And for the Skirmish reward track: even with vertical and horizontal lines (compared to no lines no lines) you are right, with two chests reduces the readability a lot. So as final conlusion we are dropping the right-bottom shady tier name and the whole image cropping,.. well that should make everything easier.--Tolkyria (talk) 14:34, 2 September 2017 (UTC)
Sorry, I have been on holiday and then kinda busy. May I present you my last try (really my last try)? You are completely right with two images are too much. But would it be ok if we mimic the ingame view, which means: If one opens the Matchup overview and goes to the Skirmish tab, one sees the closed chest. But if one moves the mouse cursor over the chest opens.
So here's my last try, see here, make sure to move the mouse over the chests (using this template). I think this would fit nicely there, but it may be again too much (like my other tries). --Tolkyria (talk) 20:45, 18 September 2017 (UTC)

API shenanigans

Remember when you added the widget thingie to Hungry cat scavenger hunt so you could put in an API key and it would grey out cats you already have? Do you think you could do something similar with Celebratory Dye Pack, Jubilant Dye Pack, and Exuberant Dye Kit for already-unlocked dyes? - Tanetris (talk) 13:01, 3 September 2017 (UTC)

Basically a subset of [[Widget:Guaranteed Wardrobe Unlock]]? -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 13:53, 3 September 2017 (UTC)
Feel free to move the control div above the table. Widget has to be called beneath it though. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 17:17, 3 September 2017 (UTC)
Something's not working quite right. When I put in my API key to Celebratory Dye Pack, 2 dyes grey out (both of which are dyes I have unlocked, and quite likely the only ones I have unlocked though I haven't checked definitively), but on Jubilant Dye Pack when I enter my API key, nothing greys out, even though I know have Shadow Abyss unlocked. I'm sitting in-game looking at it unlocked. (nothing greys out on Exuberant either, but I don't know that I have anything unlocked there)
Asidely, thank you for working on this. You are a good egg. - Tanetris (talk) 01:26, 4 September 2017 (UTC)
Placebo edits made. If it doesn't work again, open the developer tools for your browser with F12, then add the API access key, then click apply, and screenshot the console. http://imgur.com/a/ArWd3 -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 06:40, 4 September 2017 (UTC)
Placebo seems effective. Thankye. - Tanetris (talk) 16:50, 4 September 2017 (UTC)

Schematic Icons

all those delete tags look wrong to me. the Schematic (Schematic: Chilling Fog) was there before the Gizmo (Chilling Fog Tactic), and the icon for the Scribing upgrade (Scribing: Chilling Fog) is different.

Schematic: Chilling Fog History . . Chieftain Alex

The schematic pages have always had the wrong icon. I intend to add object pages for each tactic and then correct the icons but first I want to remove all duplicate icons. I chose whichever icon has been least used. J.Tesla (talk) 11:09, 4 September 2017 (UTC)

Site notice question for you

I was wondering if you could run the code I have going on the wiki stage as a site notice to see if it generates a new banner on each page you visit, or if it's cached once on the user's side. It would be a terrible waste if it's the latter. G R E E N E R 02:58, 7 September 2017 (UTC)

Would probably be cached server side.--Relyk ~ talk < 04:29, 7 September 2017 (UTC)
https://wiki-en-stage.guildwars2.com/wiki/MediaWiki:Sitenotice have a go at visiting random pages and purging it. I couldn't get the message to change (currently its the Feedback one). --Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 06:43, 7 September 2017 (UTC)
I have the one that mentions PoF, but I cannot force it to change, either. G R E E N E R 08:01, 7 September 2017 (UTC)
And it finally rolled over to another. Did some looking around, and it looks like Relyk is correct. There are some settings which relate to it, but I'll be honest, I don't want to go messing with any such settings. G R E E N E R 08:16, 7 September 2017 (UTC)
We don't need the banner changing every page visit anyways, so that's seems fine to me. Shouldn't the site notice be dismissable?--Relyk ~ talk < 01:11, 10 September 2017 (UTC)
My concern is about the efficacy of the project, given that it'll be hijacking the wiki's site notice. A banner which cycles its information a few times before it's closed is far more effective than one which says the same tidbit for 10 minutes. It would be like the helpful tip loading screens in games giving you the same piece of advice over and over again.
Before I satisfy even myself with using the site notice for such a project, it needs to hit a certain quality level. Currently I don't see it as there. Still pondering alternatives, though. G R E E N E R 05:27, 10 September 2017 (UTC)

Wanted Pages Shenanigans

Good news, the number of wanted pages dropped from 33,380 to 29,063, and I assume it will drop more as time progress. I think I tweaked the Area infobox properly to make pages stop asking for loading screens(would appreciate it if you double checked), but it looks like NPCs still want their location pictures. Perhaps the part about location in the NPC infobox just be removed entirely? Excluding some historical NPCs and U.N.I.T.(which uses map1 anyway), most NPC's should have coordinates now, or will eventually, so I think using "map1" should suffice if an NPC needs to have a location image making calling for it in the infobox unnecessary. - Doodleplex 23:28, 15 September 2017 (UTC)

Seems I missed a few, your edit should be fine, I've removed one more. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 09:20, 16 September 2017 (UTC)

AWB edit issues

I noticed several of your AWB account's edits today mistakenly removed the majority of the page content. Examples: Mystic Forge, Tooth. Bobogoobo (talk) 21:08, 17 September 2017 (UTC)

what the hell. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 06:26, 18 September 2017 (UTC)
Thankfully Doodleplex has reverted a bunch of them. I couldn't see any others. 25 pages out of 2090 isn't so bad I supppose :/ Sorry guys. (this is exactly why I've not wanted to implement the ; changes) -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 06:31, 18 September 2017 (UTC)

Can you...

...look into Template:Skill fact? I've been noticing a bunch of error messages recently and Imry was poking at it. Also your talk page is long and doesn't have enough quaggans to justify the length. - Doodleplex 05:14, 20 September 2017 (UTC)

Hiya Doodle, nice to see you here XD
Um, yeah. I saw a bunch of errors on pages like Portal Entre/Portal Exeunt and Mesmer Mantras like Mantra of Recovery. It was saying "the given value was not understood" at the end of the skill facts. I poked things, and it had that error for Property:Has skill facts.
I went to poke at Template:Skill infobox and there it just does {{#set: Has skill facts = {{{variables}}} }}, so uh... okay, it's a problem with the variables? Variables are all done with Template:Skill fact, so I looked there. After a few pokes I found out what was wrong: Template:Skill fact was using <nowiki> tags to write a colon and not have it viewed as code, and those tags don't work well inside the other template's {{#set: }}. I just copied the text from wikipedia:Template:Colon onto the inner template, and presto, all the errors disappeared!
Everything *looks* fixed now, but if you could give it a second look then Doodle and I would appreciate it. Thanks <3 --Imry (talk) 05:35, 20 September 2017 (UTC)
Yeah I spotted that bug yesterday evening via User:Chieftain Alex/sandbox (let it naturally refresh the cache of each page - don't go purging), but forgot to fix it. Previously we've had errors caused by nowiki a few lines above the one you edited (example). Assuming that you weren't fixing any other bugs I've reinserted template:effect icon. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 06:20, 20 September 2017 (UTC)
Yep, just removing the <nowiki> was the only thing that changed. Changing the icon was my first attempt (my brain: the "misc" case doesn't cause any problems, so maybe copying as much as possible from the "misc" case will fix things??) and didn't do anything. Thanks! --Imry (talk) 15:48, 20 September 2017 (UTC)

Skirmish reward track 2

May I ask you one last time, I just want to get a yes or no... whereas a yes would require a CSS edit. Not sure if you read my last comment from User talk:Chieftain Alex#Skirmish reward track, so I repost it:

"Sorry, I have been on holiday and then kinda busy.

--Tolkyria (talk) 20:45, 18 September 2017 (UTC)"
