The Sad Tale of the "Ravenous" is part of the personal story of human characters. It is selected by choosing Agent Ihan and the Order of Whispers' plan during the previous mission. The character goes in disguise and infiltrates the pirates in order to find out what information Kellach learned from Alastia Crow before she was killed. Agent Ihan feigns an undead attack so the character can fight alongside the pirates and gain their trust.
At the end of this story chapter, the character must choose an Order to join. This choice is permanent and cannot be changed.

Walkthrough[edit]
Talk to Agent Ihan and then light the torches. After talking to the pirate captain, you must fend off three waves of undead that attack the pirate camp. The first wave will come from the West, the second from the North, and the third from the Northwest. The pirates will run out to engage each wave and will become quickly overwhelmed if not assisted.
After defeating the third wave, talk to Captain Barnicus, who will re-direct you to Gaets
Talk to Gaets and choose the appropriate dialogue option:
- What did you call me, you grog-guzzling blowfish?
- I'm not just trying, you pox-faced scab. You're shaking in your boots!
- Bring it on, you sea-faring, tide-turning, half-witted poop deck!
Winning the swearing contest will prompt Captain Barnicus to tell the tale of their encounter with Kellach. Report back to Agent Ihan and head back to Divinity's Reach.
Go to Salma District and report to Captain Thackeray. Kellach poses a threat to both the queen and all of Tyria. You must now choose an Order of Tyria to join: the Vigil, the Durman Priory, or the Order of Whispers.
Your choice of order is also the choice of the next mission, Josir's Priory plan: The Queen's Justice, Ihan's Whispers plan: The Trap, or Hiroki's Vigil plan: Kellach's Attack.
Note: The pirates will not recover life between waves, and there is barely enough time time between waves to revive any pirates that have fallen. It is extremely difficult to defeat all three waves if all the pirates are down.

Dialogue[edit]
At Lionbridge Expanse[edit]
Cinematic with Ihan:
- Agent Ihan: Advocate—over here. Keep your voice low.
- Agent Ihan: The pirates are still spooked from Kellach's attack. They won't be quick to trust newcomers.
- <Character name>: We need them to tell us what they know. How do we get them to talk?
- Agent Ihan: Don't worry, Advocate. The Order's been thinking ahead. It's what we do.
- Agent Ihan: The Order of Whispers is the oldest organization in Tyria. We've managed to survive this long because we always have a plan.
- <Character name>: All right, Ihan. I'm listening. What do you suggest we do?
- Agent Ihan: I've hidden special torches on the outskirts of the pirate camp. They're enchanted with pure life force by a priest of Melandru.
- Agent Ihan: The power of these torches will draw in the undead, but nobody else will notice the difference.
- <Character name>: Draw in the undead? That's dangerous! People could get hurt.
- Agent Ihan: These are no innocents, Advocate. They're pirates, and a cutthroat bunch at that. Bear that in mind.
- Agent Ihan: Disguise yourself and attempt to join the crew. When the undead attack, prove yourself defending the camp. They'll trust you after that.
- Agent Ihan: I'll maintain the torches and watch for undead. I'll be nearby in case the situation escalates out of control.
Talking to Ihan after cinematic:
- Agent Ihan: Here, put on this disguise. No one's going to believe you're a pirate in your current getup.
- Is there anything else I need to know about being a pirate?
- Work on your swagger, your swearing, and your slang. You'll be fine.
- All right, I'll bear that in mind. Thanks, Ihan. Here I go...
Approaching the pirates:
- Pirate: You there! If you have business, speak to Captain Barnicus; otherwise, shove off before I split you like a pig.
- Pirate: ♪Fifteen men on a dead man's chest.♪
- Pirate: ♪Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!♪
- Pirate: ♪Drink and the devil and done for the rest.♪
- Pirate: ♪Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!♪
Talking to Gaets:
- First Mate Gaets: Get out of here before I use your parts for chum, you swine-hugging lowlife.
- That's the best you got? Your wits are 'bout as quick as a pregnant cow.
- What's that? I'd murder you right now if I didn't mind getting the blood of a charr-loving rat-catcher on my blade.
- Hah! Good one. I like you. You can live for now.
- Thanks but I don't need any favors from you, flotsam-face. See you around.
Please. You even think about murdering me you better stop yourself and apologize, skritt-licker.
- I don't have to listen to this. I'm gone.
Hey, don't go bringing your mother into this. Someone might get hurt. You, in fact.
- Whatever. I'm leaving before someone gets hurt.
Big talk from someone who smells like an unwashed dolyak.
- Take it easy, sailor. I'm not looking for trouble. Good-bye.
Cinematic with Barnicus after lighting torches:
- Captain Barnicus: Splendid view, isn't it? Only thing missing is our bloody ship! We never should have let that Seraph dog board the Ravenous again.
- First Mate Gaets: Ravenous died a noble death, Cap'n: on fire and full of holes. She went down fighting, like the grande dame she was.
- Captain Barnicus: Aye, that she did. That she did. Here, who's this new lubber come to stare at us?
- <Character name>: Reporting for duty, cap'n. They call me Yardarm, Rock Dog of the Eastern Sea. I hear you're looking for a new crew?
- Captain Barnicus: Ya heard wrong. We're looking for brothers and sisters of fortune. Sailors that'll stand by us when the blood starts flowin'. Now sling your hook before I—
- Pirate: Captain! The undead are back! We're under attack!
- Captain Barnicus: Damn them! Look alive, scalawags! Time for some payback.
- Captain Barnicus: You there, Yardarm! If you want to earn a berth on my ship, draw yer weapon and risk yer neck with the rest of us!
Upon defeating the Risen:
- First Mate Gaets: Cap'n, I think we beat 'em! The area's clean.
- Captain Barnicus: Hurrah! Break out the rum! We've earned one more day, me mateys!
Talking to Captain Barnicus after fighting the undead:
- Captain Barnicus: You did well, Yardarm, but if you're lookin' to join my crew, fightin' ain't enough. You need sharp wit, too.
- My wit? What does that have to do with anything?
- Listen 'ere matey. My crew has to settle scores with words, or we'd kill each other off! Speak with Gaets, she'll set you to rights.
- Sounds crazy to me, but I'll do it.
- What actually happened to your ship, the Ravenous?
- After he'd become corrupted, Kellach returned to demand that Alastia 'cure him'. Zhaitan's scum followed him to our portage!
- So that's how you lost your crew?
- Aye, matey, and the ones who didn't die think we're cursed. I fear we'll never see the open ocean again.
- I have another question.
- Thanks for the information.
- I'm not ready to prove my wit just yet. Give me a moment.
Cursing contest with Gaets:
- First Mate Gaets: Are you ready for your ears to turn blue, Yardarm?
- I'm ready if you are, Gaets!
- All righty, here we go! Ahen. Shut your hatch, you lily-livered bilge-rat!
- Who are you calling a bilge-rat... um, you dumb jerk?
- Pretty weak, lubber. Let's try that again.
- All right. Give me another shot.
- What did you call me, you grog-guzzling blowfish?
- That's the spirit! Are you trying to intimidate me, you lice-infested hammock hanger?
- I'm not just trying, you pox-faced scab. You're shaking in your boots!
- Good one! I'll gut you like a trout, you scurvy, buck-toothed, flea-bitten child of a sea hag!
- But you won't because...because...aw, I had one, but I lost it.
- Pretty weak, lubber. Let's try that again.
- All right. Give me another shot.
- Bring it on, you sea-fearing, tide-turning, half-witted poop deck!
- That was amazing! Well done, you salty dog. Captain, this is a good one!
- Hooray! I knew I could do it!
- Sea hag? My mother was a good woman! You take that back!
- Pretty weak, lubber. Let's try that again.
- All right. Give me another shot.
- Your mother was a cowherder!
- Pretty weak, lubber. Let's try that again.
- All right. Give me another shot.
- I'm not a peasant, You're a peasant!
- Pretty weak, lubber. Let's try that again.
- All right. Give me another shot.
- What? Shut your stupid face!
- Pretty weak, lubber. Let's try that again.
- All right. Give me another shot.
Cinematic with Barnicus after winning the cursing contest:
- Captain Barnicus: Ya fight like a pack of wolves, Yardarm. I'd take you aboard in the blink of a mermaid's eye. Trouble is, my ship is busy cozying up with the seafloor.
- Captain Barnicus: Gaets! You tell the tale. Layin' out our bad luck'll set me to weepin' like a quaggan.
- First Mate Gaets: A Seraph, by name of Kellach, came callin' on our seer. Naturally, we thought we'd feed him to the sharks, but he had coin and promise of more.
- First Mate Gaets: We'd plundered an Orrian cruiser, plucked her treasures right under the ol' dragon's nose. Kellach wanted the lot; we sold 'em for a pretty penny.
- First Mate Gaets: Then he comes back a few nights later, screaming for the seer, Alastia Crow. He grabs her by the throat and says he'll kill 'er unless she removes some curse he's under.
- First Mate Gaets: Behind him come undead like the plague. He ignores 'em, doesn't even know they're there, and I hear Alastia whisper to him: "Blood of royalty."
- First Mate Gaets: Kellach stabs Alastia and rushes off screamin', leavin' us there to the mercy of the undead. They scuttled our ship and ruined everything.
- Captain Barnicus: That's the sad story of the landlocked "Ravenous." These are bitter days to be a pirate.
- <Character name>: I'm sorry to hear that, but I'm looking for work as a sailor, not a sellsword. If your ship's not seaworthy, it's best we part ways.
Talking to pirates again:
- Captain Barnicus: It's a pity you won't sail with us, Yardarm. I guess we'll see you on the tide. For now, I've got a ship to mend and a crew to rebuild.
- Aye-aye, captain. Farewell.
- First Mate Gaets: Too much to do and not enough crew. Either sign up or clear off.
- Easy there, salty. I'll come back when you're feeling a bit more sociable.
After returning to Ihan:
- Agent Ihan: Our little undead attack went off without a hitch. How'd it play with the pirates?
- I still think it was risky, but it paid off in spades. I know what Alastia told Kellach!
- Risk is measured by reward, Advocate! What did you find out?
- After he was corrupted, he went to Alastia to find out how to remove the dragon's curse.
- Remove it? That's not possible. Zhaitan's corruption can't be undone!
- We know that, but Kellach didn't—and Alastia lied. She told him he needed the "blood of royalty."
- By Melandru! Kellach's going to attack Queen Jennah! We must send word to Captain Thackery right away.
- I'll meet you back in Divinity's Reach.
At Salma District[edit]
Cinematic with representatives:
- <Character name>: Captain Thackeray! I'm glad you're here.
- <Character name>: We've got an urgent situation. Kellach's been corrupted by Orrian artifacts. The pirate, Alastia, told him that the queen's blood will cure the corruption.
- Logan Thackeray: Dwayna's mercy! I have to protect the queen. We can't let him near her!
- <Character name>: I think the undead are following him because he has the artifact. As long as he's out there, they'll be right on his heels.
- Crusader Hiroki: We don't have much time. The undead mob he's leading is just getting bigger. Kellach's growing more dangerous by the second.
- <Character name>: We can't just think of the queen. We have to think of Kryta. If we just defend her, Logan, Kellach will destroy every town from Lion's Arch to Divinity's Reach.
- Logan Thackeray: You're right, dammit. But, when it comes to my duty to the queen...well, never mind. I'm listening. What's the plan?
- Crusader Hiroki: It's time to assault Kellach head-on. In the Vigil, we swear an oath to stand between the darkness and the light. The only way to be sure is to face this threat directly.
- Crusader Hiroki: Advocate, join us. You'd make a fine member of the Vigil, and I'd be proud to fight by your side.
- Scholar Josir: Don't be thickheaded, Hiroki! Knowledge is power. The Durmand Priory's research is conclusive. The Advocate would be much better-suited among our scholars.
- Scholar Josir: Come, Advocate. We can use the Mortis Verge[sic] enchantment to protect the queen, and neutralize this threat intelligently.
- Agent Ihan: Kellach has two things on his side: an army of undead and complete insanity. We have to use cunning. Lure him in, and then trick him into destroying himself.
- Agent Ihan: The Order of Whispers wants you on our side, Advocate. All you have to do is say the word.
- <Character name>: All right, everyone. Give me a moment to discuss my options with Captain Thackeray, then I'll let you know how I'm going to proceed.
Talking to NPCs before making a decision:
- Logan Thackeray: Advocate, all three orders have petitioned for you to join them. It's a permanent choice, but you'll gain a powerful ally.
- What do you think about it Logan?
- You've been a boon to Kryta, but you can do more with one of the orders. You should seize this opportunity.
- How do I join an order?
- Talk to the representative of the order you prefer, and choose their plan to protect Jennah.
- I'm ready to join an order.
- Do you think they'll mind if I ask a few questions first?
- They won't mind. They're all waiting for you to decide, so ask—and then choose quickly. We must go protect the queen.
- Will do. Thanks Logan.
- I will. Thank you.
- What do you think about the Vigil?
- They're straightforward, honorable and militant. I appreciate that, and I like their concern for the common man.
- Can I ask another question?
- Thanks. I'll keep that in mind.
- What do you think about the Priory?
- I have no use for libraries, but exploring sounds like fun. I'd like discovering lost knowledge and history.
- Can I ask another question?
- Thanks. I'll keep that in mind.
- What do you think about the Order of Whispers?
- They claim to be master manipulators, hiding in the shadows. They certainly know a lot of secrets. That could be useful.
- Can I ask another question?
- Thanks. I'll keep that in mind.
- I need to think. It's a big decision.
- I need a few moments before we continue.
Approaching the representatives after telling Logan "I'm ready to join an order":
- Scholar Josir: We can't allow anything to happen to Queen Jennah. She's the last of the royal line!
- Agent Ihan: Perhaps not the last... but you're right. Without Queen Jennah, we'd lose our treaty with the charr.
- Crusader Hiroki: More than that. Without Queen Jennah, the nation will lose hope. It would be the end of Kryta.
Talking to the representatives before choosing an Order
- Agent Ihan: The Order of Whispers wants you on our side, Advocate. Kellach's defeat could be your initiation. Remember, this is a permanent decision. What do you say?
- Can you tell me more about the Order of Whispers first?
- We subtly influence the world, collecting secrets and shifting the balance of power. We use our leverage to help Tyria resist the dragons.
- What will the Order of Whispers assign me to do?
- Anything goes, from freeing political prisoners to influencing major events. You'll travel Tyria—and see a little of its dark side.
- Very interesting. May I ask another question, Ihan?
- I need to think more. Thanks, Ihan.
- Will I have to keep my membership a secret?
- The people of Tyria are already aware of us. As long as you keep one step ahead of the rest, you can do as you please.
- Very interesting. May I ask another question, Ihan? [sic]
- I need to think more. Thanks, Ihan.
- Does your order have any titles?
- Training begins as an Initiate. When you become a full Agent, you'll learn deeper secrets. Lightbringers are the highest rank of operative.
- Very interesting. May I ask another question, Ihan? [sic]
- I need to think more. Thanks, Ihan.
- Very interesting. May I ask another question, Ihan?
- I need to think more. Thanks, Ihan.
- I'll join the Order of Whispers. Kellach is only the beginning.
- Thanks, Ihan, but I'm not ready to decide yet.
- Crusader Hiroki: The Vigil has a place for you, hero. You're brave, stalwart, and compassionate—everything we look for in a recruit. Remember, this is a permanent decision. Will you join us?
- Can you tell me more about the Vigil first?
- The Vigil is a multi-racial army drawn from all walks of life. We put our lives on the line for Tyria, and defend it from the dragons.
- What missions will the Vigil give me?
- Assisting with treaty negotiations, defending villages from minions of the dragon, or helping people displaced by dragon attacks. That sort of thing.
- Good to know. May I ask another question?
- Thank you, Hiroki. I'll think about it.
- Anything other than combat?
- Absolutely. Although we're an armed force, we also stress diplomacy and charity.
- Good to know. May I ask another question?
- Thank you, Hiroki. I'll think about it.
- What sort of titles do you have?
- You'd join us as a recruit, but with your skill, I bet you'd be a crusader in no time. Achieving the rank of warmaster's more difficult, of course.
- Good to know. May I ask another question?
- Thank you, Hiroki. I'll think about it.
- Good to know. May I ask another question?
- Thank you, Hiroki. I'll take that into account.
- I'd like to join the Vigil. Let's start by taking on Kellach!
- I need to think more. I'll get back to you.
- Scholar Josir: I hope you join the Priory. Your intelligence will be instrumental in our crusade against the dragons. Remember, this is a permanent decision.
- Can you tell me more about the Priory first?
- We are Tyria's foremost scholars of history. We search for ancient lore in an effort to deal with the dragons.
- What would I be doing for the Durmand Priory?
- Will there be fighting?
- You can bet on it. Most of those old tombs are guarded—or haunted! Even scholars throw a punch now and then.
- Good to know. May I ask another question?
- Thanks, Josir. I'll think about it.
- What sort of titles do you have?
- You start as Novice, and eventually are promoted to full Scholar. In time, you may even become an honored Magister—if you do well!
- Good to know. May I ask another question?
- Thanks, Josir. I'll think about it.
- May I ask another question?
- I'll think about it. Thanks, Josir.
- I'll join the Durmand Priory. First we stop Kellach, then on to save Tyria!
- Thanks, Josir, but I haven't decided yet.
Talking to Ihan after choosing to join the Order of Whispers:
- Agent Ihan: Excellent! With cunning and foresight, we'll end Kellach's threat for good. I'm proud to call you an Initiate of Whispers.
- I already like the Order. I'll meet you at the palace!
Talking to Ihan after choosing to join the Durmand Priory or Vigil:
- Agent Ihan: Your new order must be very proud, <Character name>. I'm disappointed, but I know you'll save Queen Jennah. May fortune smile on you.
- Thanks, Ihan. I hope to see you again someday.
- If you do, it means I'm not doing my job properly. Ha! Now, go on!
- Consider it done.
Talking to Hiroki after choosing to join the Vigil:
- Crusader Hiroki: Glad to have you aboard, Recruit. I'll meet you at the palace with a squad. Together, we'll take out Kellach, and protect Kryta's queen!
- Looking forward to it. See you there.
Talking to Hiroki after choosing to join the Durmand Priory or Order of Whispers:
- Crusader Hiroki: I won't argue with your choice, <Character name>. I'll pray for you, and for the queen. May Balthazar stand with you.
- Thanks, Hiroki. I promise you, Kellach's reign of terror ends here.
Talking to Josir after choosing to join the Durmand Priory:
- Scholar Josir: Grand, just grand! The Priory looks forward to utilizing your intellect, Novice. You've made the right choice. Gods save the queen—if they don't, we will!
- Thanks, Josir. I'll meet you at the palace.
Talking to Josir after choosing to join the Order of Whispers or Vigil:
- Scholar Josir: Blast it! Another excellent mind turned to inefficient purpose. It's okay. I'm sure you'll do well. Good luck, <Character name>. It's been a pleasure.
- Thanks, Josir. I have great respect for both you and the Priory. I hope we'll meet again.

Trivia[edit]
- Characters wear the Pirate Captain's Outfit as their disguise, in the form of a set of temporary town clothing:
- Since town clothing slots are no longer accessible, they can only be seen by hovering the mouse over head, chest, leg and foot armor slots of the armor class of the character to show gear comparing tooltips.
- They are removed upon leaving the story instance.
