Which patch added the ability to join a commander's squad by clicking on their tag on the minimap?[edit]

Previously, you had to press M to do this. This has been such a welcome quality of life update. --60.49.64.244 06:14, 31 January 2018 (UTC)

Game updates - DPL issue?[edit]

moved from Guild Wars 2 Wiki:Admin noticeboard

The DPL extension appears to not be properly loading the newly created Game updates/2018-04-24 page. This new page shows up properly in Special:RecentChanges, and in Category:April 2018 updates. Further, it does appear in the upper-right of the Recent Changes page where it is noted that "The latest game update was on Tuesday, 24 April 2018", with a working link to Game updates/2018-04-24. However, the primary Game updates page isn't including the new content, nor linking to it (and the same is true for the Game updates/April 2018 page), and the Main Page 'Game Status' section is also showing April 12 as the most recent update. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Tengauge (talkcontribs).

Like I mentioned in my response to your email, this is likely just a cache issue, since the Main Page and Game Updates page are both displaying the latest patch notes for me. Try clicking on the clock to purge your cache for that page; that'll force the transclusions to update. :) --Idris (talk) 06:35, 25 April 2018 (UTC)
It does appear to be a caching issue, as the pages are properly working for me. If it is still not working for you after you try refreshing or clearing your cache, let us know. G R E E N E R 15:16, 25 April 2018 (UTC)
Just FYI clicking on the clock purges the server-side cache, not your browser cache. Use CTRL+F5 for your own cache. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 17:02, 25 April 2018 (UTC)
Thanks, all, for the help and tips! Re: Caching -- pretty sure this was server-side; multiple different browsers (and no upstream proxy on my end) were used for testing, which is why I reached out -- wanted to make sure it wasn't something I'd screwed up content-wise, and was really a server side issue. --Tengauge (talk) 17:23, 25 April 2018 (UTC)
Related, as I was following up on all the activity that happened overnight (for me), I saw that Imry had updated the Game updates/2018-04-24 page with the build number from the first build for the day (thank you!) in the wiki notes section, but it was still showing up as "build: ?" on the main Game updates page. Following the note from Idris to clear the page cache for the page by clicking on the clock, the build number immediately started displaying properly -- essentially the same thing I was seeing last night (but for changes to included content rather than including the new page), confirming it was a server cache issue. I haven't had that problem previously on the game updates pages... Not sure if this is indicative of a larger server cache issue, or if this is just part of wiki life I'd been lucky enough to miss up until now. --Tengauge (talk) 17:40, 25 April 2018 (UTC)
Might be the recent upgrade to MediaWiki 1.30. I've been running into a lot of caching issues since then. --Idris (talk) 18:23, 25 April 2018 (UTC)

When were Seraph stats added to the rest of the Season 3 ascended trinkets?[edit]

Initially, when Head of the Snake was released, Seraph trinkets were only available from Episode 4 itself. When exactly were they first added to the other Season 3 trinkets?
I tried searching all game update notes in [1] from 8 Feburary 2017 to 12 Feburary 2018, but couldn't find any log of this. --138.75.82.239 21:25, 7 August 2018 (UTC)

I would expect it to have been on the release of The Head of the Snake/Lake Doric (8th February 2017).
The earliest trace I've found of us adding Seraph prefix on the old trinkets to the wiki was this (26th February 2017). -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 21:53, 7 August 2018 (UTC)

Feedback 2018/08/28[edit]

The Guardian section erroneously shows Orb of Wrath skill as being replaced by the Holy Strike skill. The skill replaced was Orb of Light. --VirtualReign (talk) 18:25, 28 August 2018 (UTC)

Command Line parameters disabled[edit]

Why is it not noted in the wiki notes that both the –email and –password command-line parameters have been disabled? Here is the announcement from Gail Gray: https://en-forum.guildwars2.com/discussion/66631/command-line-options-changed. KJZ (talk) 15:27, 23 January 2019 (UTC)

it was added by another user in the same minute as your comment to Game updates/2019-01-22.
The wiki allows anybody to edit so you could have added this yourself. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 20:00, 23 January 2019 (UTC)
Also thing is, the article is mainly a copy of official patch notes. The additional info in Wiki Notes are changes not included in the patch notes that were discovered by players in-game or people found it announced somewhere else. So it just happens something can slip out and then people simply forget to add it to the articles. --Txonä Atan - (talk) 02:18, 24 January 2019 (UTC)
Or don't even know that it's a change that happened and therefore don't know to add it while updating the update notes on the wiki. When I see a build on my desktop after a patch that isn't yet reflected in the update notes on the wiki, I'll hit the direct link to the release notes in the forum and transcribe stuff here, but I don't actually take the time to go read through the rest of the forums looking for relevant info to add to the wiki as well. As Chieftan Alex notes, this is a collaborative effort and we all do our small parts (or large, in his and others' cases) to make sure the wiki is as useful as possible, so it's up to all of us volunteers to add those bits when we find them, as TxonAtana said. --Tengauge (talk) 03:24, 24 January 2019 (UTC)
Thru testing I have found that they have also disabled the "-nopatchui" parameter. But I can not find any statement confirming that other than a blank white screen. KJZ (talk) 17:16, 24 January 2019 (UTC)
Although it wouldn't make sense, I don't think that -nopatchui was disabled. Getting a white screen is the clear proof the parameter is still valid (it gets stuck because you don't have credentials saved). If the parameter were deprecated you would get the launcher window as it does normally. The parameter is still valid, the difference now is you must first save your credentials through the launcher window using the "Remember me" options instead putting it directly in the command line. --Txonä Atan - (talk) 22:07, 24 January 2019 (UTC)
You may be correct. I do have my credentials encoded into the launcher. I think the "-nopatchui" prevents the launcher from loading those same creds into the game client which results in the white screen.KJZ (talk) 16:31, 25 January 2019 (UTC)

Questions regarding the patch note "Players can now have two different NPC allies summoned by consumable items active at once." from the 19 November 2019 update[edit]

Does this mean that all item summons can be used at the same time now? (such as fire ele + jade construct + sunspear)
Before this patch, fire ele could be used together with ogre pet whistle for example, but fire ele couldn't be used together with jade armor.
So what does the recent update mean exactly? --161.142.215.84 21:43, 21 November 2019 (UTC)

Your best bet may be to bring this up on the forums for either the devs or a larger group of people to see. Greener (talk) 23:19, 21 November 2019 (UTC)

What is a power coefficient?[edit]

A couple hundred times the latest update says "reduced power coefficient", but doesn't define what that means. Do we know what it means? Is it a nerf or a buff? Daddicus (talk) 04:14, 26 February 2020 (UTC)

Its a nerf. Its how much power attribute affect your skill damage (i.e coefficent of 2.0 means that skill uses 2x your current power to calculate damage). Pretty much all the skills got more or less a 30% nerf to damage in PvP/WvW 103.87.38.23 05:01, 26 February 2020 (UTC)
@Daddicus; damage is calculated ingame per Damage calculation. The main formula is:
Damage = (Weapon_strength * Power * Power_coefficient) / Target_armor
  • Weapon strength is the value between your min and max weapon strength from the weapon's tooltip (after the current update pvp always hits the exact midpoint between these). You can look the values up on Weapon Strength, under the Exotic (78) / PvP midpoint column).
  • Power is the attribute level from your hero equipment panel.
  • Power_coefficient (or skill coefficient) is a multiplier that they set to adjust each skill's damage. The balance team can't adjust any of the rest of the equation really.
  • Target armor is treated as 2597 for tooltips (same as a heavy armor target).
Using the above, by hitting a heavy armor target in the pvp lobby you can calculate the coefficient for any skill in the game (just by recording how much damage you dealt to the foe, and your power level) - you just need to remember to remove any modifiers like +5% Force sigils, or certain traits. (also as an addendum, tooltips round differently to actual damage dealt: tooltips round up, damage dealt rounds down). -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 07:57, 26 February 2020 (UTC)
OK, thank you! Daddicus (talk) 03:38, 27 February 2020 (UTC)

Feedback 2020/07/20[edit]

It would be nice to see if things are nerfs or buffs as a symbol before each line The preceding unsigned comment was added by 72.21.198.67 (talk) at 19:56, 20 July 2020‎ (UTC).

It would be useful... however for the most part the wiki notes are directly copied from the official forum post, with the only changes being the skill icons which are non-controversial.
I feel that adding nerf/buff symbols would be quite make adding patch notes quite intensive, and for that reason I'd suggest that we might not want to add green/red arrows for example. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 20:38, 20 July 2020 (UTC)

Undocumented change, March 23, 2021 Update[edit]

Are game updates tagged to UTC?[edit]

I was looking at the forum times for the update notices when I was adding the build #. I spent a bit of head-scratching time figuring out how to fix what appeared to be a bad date (Sorry J. P.). Am I in error, and should I move the update from the late day for NA time into the next day UTC time? The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mar Master (talkcontribs).

Yes, we use the UTC time for patch notes. Learned that just recently myself ;) - J.P.User J.P. sigicon.png 21:44, 9 June 2021 (UTC)
They are placed according to UTC indeed. Do note though that the hovertext on the new forum might be (could also be UTC-10 staticaly instead for all i can tell) following some US timezone as it's presently 10 hours behind UTC. (At least for me while not logged into the forum.) The UTC timestamp can be found by right clicking the time section (Doing this on anything after the preceeding "Posted " should select the element with the time attribute directly.) and then selecting "Inspect Element" or similar. (The exact name of the option may varry depending on the browser used.) This will bring up the inspector showing the html source of the page and should also select and hilight the element the right click was performed on. In this case the element that should be selected will be something like <time datetime="2021-06-08T22:55:41Z" title="06/08/2021 11:55 PM" data-short="23 hr">23 hours ago</time> where the value for the datetime attribute is the ISO-8601 timestamp of the post. As it ends in a Z it's in UTC. As such the date for the post in question is the 8th of June, 2021 at 22:55:41 UTC. Nightsky (talk) 22:34, 9 June 2021 (UTC)
Yup, I should've been more perceptive of that. I feel like the forums have given me the actual UTC time in the past, and that mixed me up :s - J.P.User J.P. sigicon.png 22:58, 9 June 2021 (UTC)
Actually i have to correct myself on that. It seems the hover text is 14 hours before UTC(±00:00; so UTC+14). Didn't take note of the date being different too. Nightsky (talk) 23:19, 9 June 2021 (UTC)
I was looking at sample (inspected) datetime fields from the forums while I'm NOT logged in. In my case, the displayed datetime is the equivalent of UTC-5 (which puts it into my timezone). <time datetime="2021-06-10T18:59:49Z" title="06/10/2021 01:59 PM" data-short="28 min">28 minutes ago</time> This would seem to indicate my browser is passing my TZ to the forums. More research on the vagaries of browsers, forums to follow. --Mar Talk Master 19:40, 10 June 2021 (UTC)
It showed in local time for me as well now. Surely makes interpretation easier by a lot. Will keep looking at the source for the timestamp though. (As deleting the cookie had it show up as UTC temporarily (<time datetime="2021-06-08T22:55:41Z" title="06/08/2021 10:55 PM" data-short="2 dy">Tuesday at 10:55 PM</time>) followed by it then showing up as UTC+14 again (<time datetime="2021-06-08T22:55:41Z" title="06/09/2021 12:55 AM" data-short="2 dy">Wednesday at 12:55 AM</time>) and me having set the browser to delete cookies when closing it.) Nightsky (talk) 09:59, 11 June 2021 (UTC)
The forum sets a cookie ips4_ipsTimezone:"America/Chicago" that allows the forums to know the viewers TZ. --Mar Talk Master 22:42, 11 June 2021 (UTC)
