Walkthrough[edit]

There are two phases to the event. The first takes place on a hill shortly after Event swords (tango icon).png [Group Event] Lure out the Claw of Jormag by destroying the final dragon crystal (80) is completed, and requires destroying the dragon's ice wall in order to reach it. Periodically, the dragon will fly up into the sky to maneuver, only to return to the hill and raise a new ice wall. The second phase begins after the Claw is reduced below 50% health, attempts to escape, and is shot down. On this occasion, instead of landing, the dragon crashes into the hill, and then bounces some distance to the west. Standing where the dragon crash-lands, and getting killed, will reward you with the Crash Landing achievement.

Phase 1[edit]

During the first half of the event, the Claw will summon an ice wall to protect itself. Destroying the wall will stun the dragon and grant players 15-second window to attack it. After recovering, the dragon will raise another wall, and the cycle will repeat until the dragon is below 50% health.

The ice wall is preceded by an area of frozen ground which will apply stacks of Glaciate.png Icy Grave on players, and will quickly accumulate to cause devastating amounts of damage if not avoided. Thus, players must use long ranged attacks exceeding 1200 unit range, and position themselves at the "safe spot" just south of the ice wall. However, they will still be vulnerable to the dragon's breath (which damages and inflicts Fear.png Fear), as well as its other attacks which can damage or Knockback.png push them off the safe spot.

If players don't have access to weapons with the required range, they can use one of the two bundles: Pact Bazooka and Live Explosive. The bazooka grants a 2000-range missile attack that allows players to hit the ice wall while remaining at a safe distance. Players can use the explosives to dash to the wall and set charges to damage it. Each bundle also grants the skill Heat Shield, which can be used to negate the dragon's damage and Fear.png Fear for a bit.

This strategy has its own risks: a large number of Jormag's minions spawn near the bundles. While fetching a bundle, players might accidentally attract minions' attention to other players attempting to damage the wall at the "safe spot." A number of players can also opt to lure the minions away from others, allowing them to attack the wall without fear of being overwhelmed from behind. The dragon's minions will die once the wall is destroyed.

Phase 2[edit]

Once the Claw's health is reduced below 50%, Pact forces will blast the dragon out of the sky and it will crash down some distance to the northwest. During this phase, the Pact will send explosive golems to attack the dragon in an effort to stun it. Charrzooka barrels will provide flamethrowers instead of Pact Bazookas during Phase 2.

The main objective is to help the golems reach the Claw by destroying Ice Pillars that pop up to block their way, chill, and destroy nearby allies. When the dragon is not stunned, the frozen ground near the dragon will inflict Glaciate.png Icy Grave, similarly to the first phase. Skills with a range of 1200 can hit the dragon while remaining outside the range of Icy Grave, but they will do roughly 1/4 - 1/3 of their normal damage. Veteran Icebrood Elementals will also spawn on the ledges outside of the frozen ground that attack players and golems. In addition, veteran and champion Icebrood Wolves and Icebrood Maulers spawn and attack players, and will make short work of anyone in their path unless dealt with correctly. However, all of the dragon's minions are once again destroyed once it's stunned. This phase will repeat until the Claw is killed or the event fails.

Tactics[edit]

  • Players can use stun break skills to remove Fear.png Fear. Two or more players using "Shake It Off!", Mantra of Concentration or other immediate condition removal can help prevent everyone from being constantly feared.
    • Players might also want to toggle Walk to avoid running too far away if under the effect of fear.
  • Not all long range weapons are effective. Only weapons with more than 1200 unit range can reliably reach the ice wall from the safe spot.
  • Area of effect Healing.png Healing and quickly reviving downed allies is extremely valuable. Reviving defeated allies takes much longer and is often impossible, especially if they died on frozen ground.
  • Once stunned, the Claw can be attacked multiple times simultaneously to its head and/or claws by use of piercing attacks. This effectively allows some professions to double their damage output.
  • Bazookas are not available during the 2nd phase so it is advisable to get one just before the first phase ends.
  • During the second phase, players not engaging the Claw directly should assist the golems:
    • Players can take the hit from icy projectiles used by Icebrood Elementals in order to protect golems.
    • Players should distract the Icebrood Elementals on the ledges from the golems. Using a bazooka obtained during the first phase allows engagement out of range of retaliation attacks. Finding the right range and the right angle of attack takes trial and error.
    • Golems can be buffed by Swiftness.png Swiftness from skills like Symbol of Swiftness or Temporal Curtain to hasten their advance.
    • It takes 7 golems to stun the Claw.
