Champion loot bag
Champion loot bags are additional rewards that are almost always received after defeating champion and legendary enemies. The bags were introduced in the Queen's Jubilee release.
Family[edit]
- Primary article: Non-player character
The type of bag dropped by the enemy depends on the family. The family may be unexpected at times, especially with Branded, Icebrood, Risen, and other dragon-corrupted races that normally (but sometimes fail to) alter what the original race is assumed to be. For instance, most Icebrood creatures will drop a Gilded Strongbox, but an Icebrood Quaggan will drop Shell Pouches as if it were a regular quaggan.
Rarity and contents[edit]
Like all loot, there is a high chance to get a loot bag of your level, and a small chance to get a loot bag of the champion enemy's level. The level is represented by the bag's rarity rather than a number. Bags have crafting materials at a tier equivalent to their rarity, but can still have equipment at the level of the character that opens the bag.
Exotic loot bags can contain tier 5 and 6 crafting materials, cores, lodestones, Karma, a Spirit Shard, weapons or armor of your level (from Fine to Exotic quality), and very rarely exotic weapons with unique skins (like Entropy and Monsoon). The bags also have a very low probability to drop an ascended chest. Like most other containers, the loot probabilities of the contents of these bags are not affected by Magic Find.
Rarity | Minimum player level1 | Minimum zone level2 | Material tier |
---|---|---|---|
common | 1 | 1 | 1 |
Fine | 1 | 1 | 2 |
Masterwork | 30 | 40 | 3 |
Rare | 45 | 55 [verification requested] | 4 |
Exotic | 55 | n/a | 5-6 |
- 1 At this character level, it is possible to receive a bag of this rarity instead of what the zone would indicate, if the zone indicates a bag of lower rarity.
- 2 In a zone with enemies at this level, it is possible to receive a bag of this rarity instead of what the character level would indicate.
For example, in the Triple Trouble event, a Champion Partially Digested Husk yields a Noxious Seed Pod. Players using a level 80 character can receive either an exotic or a rare bag, due to Bloodtide Coast's level range being 45-55. In a zone such as Frostgorge Sound, however, all bag drops will be of exotic rarity.
The unique weapons drop as level 80 exotics, regardless of both the bag's rarity and the character's level.

Exceptions[edit]
These lists are not exhaustive, but are intended to help readers understand why a Champion may fail to award a loot bag.
- Enemies that give no drops because they become neutral without leaving a bag of loot behind, or otherwise avoid being killed.
- Enemies that do not drop champion loot bags but may drop other loot.
- Enemies that have no drops by design.
- Certain champions spawned by world boss events, such as:
- All champions within the events against Tequatl the Sunless.
- All champions within the main event against the Shadow Behemoth.
- All champions during the events against the Triple Trouble heads. But not all during the escorts to each location.
- Some champions within the events against the Claw of Jormag, especially those in the first phase. (With the exception of a goliath and wolf, in the second phase, Champions do drop bags.)
- Certain champions spawned by guild events, such as:
- Any champion spawned by Scratch Sentry Defense.
Acquisition[edit]
You can acquire a champion loot bag by assisting in a champion enemy's death, but given their power, a group of players will often be necessary. Calling for help in map chat may result in other players coming to assist. Some higher level events or zones can spawn many champions, or quickly respawn them. As a result, there may be a large group of players farming the spot. Here are some examples and the type of foes that are part of a player-organized loop, including some non-Champion sources:
- Cursed Shore and Orr in general: orrians, elementals; this loop has almost no downtime
- Frostgorge Sound: Icebrood, drake, ooze, quaggan, troll; this loop has almost no downtime
- Sparkfly Fen: krait (farming Defend the supply of energy from krait (65) that scales to champions).
- Ember Bay: drakes, elementals, destroyers, jade construct, wurm, sloth, karka
- World bosses: many of them are champions or spawn champions, granting Champion loot bags in addition to the boss's Bonus chest. In particular, the Foulbear Kraal and Modniir Ulgoth meta-events have 4 and 6 guaranteed champion spawns respectively.
- Living World events, such as Scarlet invasions, can spawn many champions over their duration.
- Lost Bandit Chests in the Silverwastes are farmed on a loop in certain maps, and are guaranteed to contain Embroidered Coin Purses. Be sure to check the Looking For Group tool to find these maps - you will need Bandit Skeleton Keys.
Additionally:
- Most WvW Reward Tracks and PvP Reward Tracks award containers that have champion loot bags in them
- Some personal story and Living World missions grant champion loot bags as part of their rewards.
