Faolain has fled the Twilight Arbor, but the evil that infects this region remains. In her wake, other forces have now flooded in to take advantage of her foul magics to their own ends.

— In-game description

Faolain has fled from Twilight Arbor, and her former lieutenants are now racing against each other for control over the Arbor's most dangerous weapon, a Nightmare Tree, a source of power that grants whoever possesses it their darkest desires. Fueled by their own interests, the courtiers conspire and compete against each other, doing whatever is necessary to seize this tree. Players will have to chase them through the Arbor to stop them from spreading their evil all over Tyria.

Twilight Arbor features three paths:

Nightmare Court (55 level path)
  • Forward: in the forward path, players go after Vevina, Countess of Obedience. In her vanity, she seeks the power of the Nightmare Tree to mind-control everyone into worshipping her.
  • Up: in the up path, players go after Leurent, Count of Blood. Blinded by rage after failing his Wyld Hunt, he seeks the power of the Nightmare Tree to wage war and burn down all of Tyria.
  • No longer available Forward/Up: in this historical path players would go after Fyonna, Countess of Spiders. Longing for a family, she sought the power of the Nightmare Tree to grow her "family" of spiders to entangle and devour the world.

Your Herald

An ongoing nightmare

I've heard that Faolain has been driven from the Twilight Arbor, but that in her absence three Nightmare Court supporters have stormed the forest, seeking to gain control of a secret lying somewhere among the trees.

I have no idea what this secret might be, but it appears to be worth killing over. I'm getting reports that terrified sylvari are streaming out of the arbor with stories of bloodshed and horror. There's a handful of sylvari who are caring for the refugees dislodged by the Nightmare Court invasion, but something more must be done.

I've already volunteered your assistance, so go and be a hero and end this brutality.

—Safe travels, Your Herald

Unique Loot[edit]

Walkthrough[edit]

Twilight Arbor's explorable mode is different from other dungeons. Players are first given the choice of stopping either the Aetherblades, which leads to the level 80 "Aetherpath", or the level 55 Nightmare Court paths. If players select the Nightmare Court option, they will, later on, have to choose between going "forward" (sometimes abbreviated as 'fwd'), Vevina's Path; or "up", Leurent's Path. The beginning of the dungeon is common to all paths. Players have to talk to Caithe and choose which enemies they want to deal with; the Aetherblades or the Nightmare Court.

General Tips
  • Volatile Blossoms are the main mechanic of this dungeon. It's important for players to know how to deal with Blossoms, and remain alert in areas that contain them.
    • Holding down the 'Show Enemy Names' key, (Left Ctrl by default), will reveal their health bars.
    • Killing a blossom will rally a downed player.
    • Blossoms respawn rather quickly after they've been killed, but always spawn in the same locations.
    • It might be wise to avoid fighting enemies in areas with a high concentration of blossoms, especially if they can Knockdown.png Knockdown, Knockback.png Knockback, or Fear.png Fear.
    • Parties should generally avoid running through fields of blossoms without destroying them first. While the player who activates the blossom may be able to out-run its Poisoned.png poisonous clouds, those following will be forced to take the brunt of the blossoms' damage. Simply using ranged auto-attacks while running is enough to clear a path.
    • Should a player accidentally trigger a blossom during a fight, they should remain calm and look around before moving. A panic dodge might cause that player to run into more blossoms.
  • Many foes have Knockdown.png Knockdowns, in groups they can keep a player, or an entire group that's standing too close together, disabled for long periods of time. Breaks stun.png Stun breaks, Blinded.png blinds, blocks, and evades are highly recommended.
  • Players are advised to use Strong, Potent, or Powerful Potion of Nightmare Court Slaying, according to their level.
  • As with all dungeons, Blinded.png blind can negate mobs' attacks, and Stealth.png Stealth can be employed to skip, running past mobs without fighting them.

Nightmare Court[edit]

Both Nightmare Court paths are led by Morrigu.

The dungeon starts in the Reception Hall, where players will be greeted by several Volatile Blossoms and four Nightmare Hounds. The hounds' basic attacks bleed and poison, and they are capable of knocking down players. Past the hounds are four Elite Nightmare Husks who are infamous for their knockdown and knockback attacks. The group can choose to fight these enemies, or simply run past them.

Afterwards, players will enter the Chamber of Envy.

Greater Nightmare Vine

The Chamber of Envy is a large room filled with Volatile Blossoms, and a mini-boss encounter. Once players reach the center of the room, an Elite Nightmare Vine spawns. Killing a Vine causes another Vine to spawn. After killing the fifth vine, the Greater Nightmare Vine will spawn in the center of the room.

All vines have the same two attacks. They spit projectiles that can't be reflected nor blocked that leave a puddle on the ground that deals damage. And they hit the ground with their head, Knockback.png knocking back nearby players.

At 75% and 50% health, the Greater Nightmare Vine will spawn an Elite Nightmare Vine, making it more difficult to find a safe place to stand as the fight goes on. Players can either choose to dispatch the elite vines as they spawn, or continue focusing the greater vine. Once the Greater Nightmare Vine is defeated, all the other vines will disappear.

After killing this mini-boss, the party has to decide whether to go forward and chase after Vevina or up and chase after Leurent.

Vevina's Path (forward)[edit]

Route of Vevina's Path through the Twilight Arbor

After Morrigu opens the gate, the group will enter a circular room guarded by six Elite Nightmare Court Archers, three on each side. The archers turn hostile once the group crosses the room. All six archers need to be defeated for Morrigu to open the next path. (Formerly, players had to choose at this point between Vevina's Path (forward) or the now removed Fyonna's Path (up))

After clearing the room, the group will swim through a small underground lake and enter the Lake of Fear, a large open area guarded by Volatile Blossoms, several groups of Nightmare Court, and some Nightmare Vines. In the center of the cave will spawn a Greater Nightmare Vine, albeit weaker than the first miniboss. The dungeon continues past the small bridge guarded by a Champion Nightmare Warder. All enemies in the cave are entirely optional.

Leurent's Elite Guard

Pass the bridge, players will enter a small room guarded by four Elite Nightmare Court Archers standing behind shield bubbles. The shields will reflect any projectile attacks, and touching them will instantly down the player. Ranged attacks that do not fire a projectile are able to bypass the shield, along with ground targeted skills.

To enter the bubbles players will have to cross the portals in the walls of the room, keeping in mind that the arrival destination changes every couple seconds as indicated by a small red cog or gear in the minimap. This gear points to the portar players will arrive at after using a portal. There are six portals, 2 are outside of any shielding bubble, to the north; and one behind each archer. Defeating an archer will destroy their shielding bubble.

It is also possible to cross the shields unharmed by using Aegis.png Aegis, Blocks, or invulnerability. Any summons, such as mesmer's illusions or necromancer minions or ranger pets, instantly die within the bubbles.

Path to Leurent

After this room, players enter The Arboretum, where five Elite Nightmare Hounds patrol. It is possible to avoid fighting them by following the right wall and waiting for them to walk past the group, or they can simply be killed. Past the hounds are four groups of Nightmare Court along the path.

It is possible to run past all four Nightmare Court groups. Swiftness.png Swiftness, Stability.png Stability, stun breaks, and/or Stealth.png Stealth will be useful. Players can rest shortly after the bridge to wait for cooldowns. Teleport skills can be used on the bridge directly from the ground where the Hounds patrol to skip the four Nightmare Court groups.

Pass the bridge is a small clearing with 2 groups of Nightmare Court and a few Volatile Blossoms. Afterwards, the group enters a narrow tunnel filled with Volatile Blossoms. Halfway through the tunnel, Nightmare Pups will run towards the group. It is possible to outrun them, or players may choose to kill them all. Once the group exits the tunnel they will encounter a group of archers guarding the ledge to the lower level. Once the group jumps, Leurent awaits them at The Nursery.

Leurent[edit]

Leurent is joined by an Elite Nightmare Court Knight, an Elite Nightmare Court Sorcerer, and an Elite Nightmare Court Archer. Both Leurent and the knight have knockdown abilities which, when used together, can keep players knockdown for long periods of time. Stability.png Stability and Breaks stun.png Stun breaks are highly advised, the adds should be prioritised over Leurent.

After Leurent is defeated, the gate to the final boss will open.

Nightmare Tree[edit]

The final boss is the Nightmare Tree. In this path, it has been corrupted by Vevina and it will spawn phantasmal Veteran Oakhearts to defend itself. They have moderate damage, Knockdown.png Knockdown, and will root players. In this path, the Nightmare Tree deals less physical damage, but it will inflict damaging conditions with its attacks.

Leurent's Path (up)[edit]

Route of Leurent's Path through the Twilight Arbor

After Morrigu opens the door, players will be greeted by hordes of spiders. They should be killed in small groups to avoid a party wipe. The spiders in the main chamber can be aggroed and pulled to the previous corridor by hiding behind the rocks in the corridor to break line of sight and force the spiders to come to the group and stack, so they can be disposed of easier. Malrona awaits the group in the Orbweaver Gallery.

Malrona[edit]

After killing all the spiders, the fight against Malrona starts.

Malrona only has two attacks: Venom Spray and Venom Blast.

  • Venom Spray: Malrona glows yellow and spits a green cloud of poison in a cone in front of her. Players hit are Poisoned.png Poisoned, those affected by this special type of poison deal greatly increased physical damage.
  • Venom Blast: Malrona glows yellow and fires 5 projectiles around her, dealing massive damage, the landing zone of the projectiles overlap, and they are likely to instantly down all nearby players that fail to dodge. The range is short, so it can be completely ignored by standing at range.

Malrona will alternate between these 2 attacks during the whole fight, making it very easy to know when she's going to cast the dangerous Venom Blast, so players can dodge, and when she's going to use Venom Spray, which players can get hit by on purpose to increase their outgoing physical damage.

Canyons to Fyonna

After killing Malrona, the group will encounter a group of Elite Undergrowth Stonetouch. Players should beware of these spiders and their ability to stun for a rather long time, since these stuns cannot be cleansed.

The road divides up ahead. To the right is a dead-end, a small beautiful garden. The dungeon continues to the left, with Nightmare Vines spawning on the way, followed by a large group of spiders capable of inflicting cripple.

Fyonna[edit]

Fyonna stands in the center of a large room filled with egg sacs. If the fight drags on too long, some spiders will spawn from them. If the group has low dps they can kill the eggs by walking over them, ideally during the dialogue before the fight.

Above 50% health, Fyona fights at range and tries to distance herself from nearby players.

Once she drops below 50% health, she will transform into a large spider. Her attacks will change from ranged to melee.

After defeating her, the group presses onwards into Boleshian Pit.

Cliffs and Wardens

The thins corridors lead into the lower level, but are guarded by Nightmare Court, including a group of archers with permanent stability near the cliff. Players can choose to kill them or just run and jump off the ledge.

After dropping down the final cliff, players will encounter one Elite Nightmare Warder and one Champion Nightmare Warder guarding a gate. Both are extremely dangerous as they deal significant damage and inflict knockdown very often. Stability and stun breaks are highly advised. Players should focus the elite warder first. After killing them, the gate to the final boss will open.

Nightmare Tree[edit]

The final boss is the Nightmare Tree. In this path, it has been corrupted by Leurent and it will repeatedly spawn mortar and healing turrets around itself. The healing turrets give it regeneration, which heal for very little. The mortar turrets fire projectiles that deal significant damage, but can be blocked or reflected.

The most dangerous attack is the boss' Root Eruption attack. Red circles will appear under each player and roots will pop out after a few seconds, dealing massive damage. Players should dodge to avoid receiving massive damage, especially since these attacks can overlap and potentially wipe the party.

Aetherpath[edit]

Route of Aetherpath through the Twilight Arbor

After choosing Aetherblade Path from Caithe, players must first fight their way through Volatile Blossoms, Elite Nightmare Hounds and their pups, Elite Torrential Husk and Elite Nightmare Husk that after death will spawn a group of spiders at the back door. Each group contains two elite spiders. Most dangerous spider is Stonetouch, spawned by killing the Elite Nightmare Husk. Further inside can be found Elite Nightmare Vines that upon death will spawn two more at the gate. And two more Elite Nightmare Hounds that upon death will spawn four Veteran Jungle Wurms and two Jungle Wurms.

Ooze Font Puzzle[edit]

To complete this puzzle you must repair the door by lubricating big gears on both sides of the door within around 5 seconds of each other using Slick Oozes. Oozes spawn in two small water pools left and right of the entrance to this room. Near these water pools can be also found Lanterna Plant. Interacting with these plants grants you Ooze Pheromone.png Ooze Pheromone effect, which makes Oozes follow you. There are also six Lava Elementals that will constantly spawn as well. These elementals will attack players but Oozes as well. Luckily these elementals have only ranged projectile attacks that can be reflected or destroyed. Accidentally luring Ooze into the fire will not kill it immediately but it will damage it. Oozes are immune to pulls and pushes but will still be Immobile.png Immobile when hit by Lava Elemental. It is possible to escort both oozes down the same path. As long as one has above 70-80% health by the time they reach the gate, it can be lured across the fire at the end towards the other gear.

A Revenant can solo this puzzle by luring both Slick Oozes at once down the same path, using  Protective Solace.png Protective Solace to keep them safe, and either  Ancient Echo.png Ancient Echo or Replenishing Despair Replenishing Despair to maintain Energy. Then have the second Slick Ooze cross the river of fire to the other gear. A Firebrand should be able to do the same with proper positioning of  Wall of Reflection.png Wall of Reflection,  Sanctuary.png Sanctuary and  Chapter 3- Valiant Bulwark.png Chapter 3: Valiant Bulwark. Obviously, it's much easier to finish the puzzle if the whole group contributes by protecting the Slick Oozes from projectiles and killing Lava Elementals before they can damage them, but this is a nice trick in case your group is stuck in this part of the dungeon.

After completing this puzzle a gate will open. Behind this gate you can find groups of enemies fighting with each others. Spiders, Aetherblades and Jungle Wurms as well as Steam Watcher patroling this area. Only three groups each containing three Aetherblade enemy needs to be killed to open the next gate. First group contains of two Elite Aetherblade Grenadiers and one Elite Aetherblade Thug. Second group contains of two Elite Aetherblade Swashbucklers and one Elite Aetherblade Striker. Third group contains of two Elite Aetherblade Taskmasters and one Elite Aetherblade Thumper. After these groups were dealt with a wave of Nightmare Pup will be running away from the next arena where we can meet Sparki and Slick.

Sparki and Slick[edit]

This arena is filled with Overgrown Volatile Blossom. Entering this zone will teleport everyone inside and later start the fight with Sparki and Slick. There are several mechanics at play during this fight, but it is often better to simply ignore them and kill the bosses quickly. Best is to focus killing Sparki as quick as possible. Her fire attacks can be really deadly. While fighting these bosses one of the players will be targeted with Ooze Pheromone.png Ooze Pheromone effect for a few seconds making Oil-Absorbing Ooze to attack them. This enemy is more deadly than these bosses. Luring this ooze on top of oil will remove this oil and gaining No Recharge.png Energized effect. Killing this Ooze will release ten more stacks of Corrosive Poison Cloud.png Toxic Fumes. Once one of the bosses is dead, the other will become Frenzy (Sparki and Slick).png Frenzy. Slick will produce two pools of oil at a time and attack faster. Sparki will increase her damage output and her Spin Attack frequency.

  • Slick puts pools of oil on the ground, which damage and cripple players on them. For each pool of oil on the ground, the party will receive a stack of Corrosive Poison Cloud.png Toxic Fumes, a poison mist that deals approximately 200 damage per second, stacking in intensity. To reduce the stacks of poison mist affecting the party, a player with the Ooze Pheromone.png Ooze Pheromone effect needs to lure the Ooze to the pools of oil. The Ooze will absorb the oil, reducing the stacks of Toxic Fumes on the party.
  • Sparki deals high fire damage and causes burning. She will periodically spin, throwing many fire projectiles in all directions. Sparki also ignites the pools of oil put down by Slick, causing them to do more damage, and increasing the amount of Toxic Fumes stacks. Burning Oil Slicks may still be absorbed by the Ooze.

Path to Foreman Spur[edit]

Continuing the way forward you will encounter more Elite Aetherblades as well as Holopirate Generator. These structures needs to be destroyed so you can continue forward. These generators will spawn 5 holographic enemies that do not deal much damage but will explode with energy upon death. These explosions are deadly and are the only thing that can damage said generators. Holographic enemies have Shield of the Avenger.png Aetherized Shielding effect preventing them getting damaged for few seconds. However, these enemies can be destroyed even before they spawn from Holopirate Generators and gain this effect. All enemy groups need to be killed except one that runs into the room after the last generator is destroyed. After cutscene, careful with jumping down.

Foreman Spur[edit]

The best way to deal with this enemy is to seperate him from his army. That can be done by following along the right wall of this arena hiding behind a big pipe running in the floor. By hiding behind this little corner, the enemy will be forced to walk all the way to you. Stunning him quickly, breaking his defiance bar, will give you time to kill him. If you are not be able to stun him in time, he may start spinning around dealing a massive amount of damage. You can tell when he will start spinning because he will be invulnerable for a few seconds while preparing the spinning animation. Evading into the pipe itself will help you to evade his attack and later not be knocked away as much. After killing Aetherblade Foreman Spur you need to kill the rest of his army. These enemies are mostly normal or veteran rank but will stun a lot. It's recommended to kill the Steam Watcher before dealing with the army.

  • Spur is mostly a melee fighter, using high-damage PBAoE attacks (Cyclone Axe and Whirling Axe) that are capable of hitting multiple times, dealing very high damage. He also likes to constrict the fighting area by creating a barrier that causes knockback and cripple when players try to cross it. He will throw out small AoEs that look like spinning gears if there are no players within melee range, which last for a long time, summoning more below 50% hp, so it's best to always stay in melee range. They may be reflected. His most disruptive ability is his spinning attack: he will perform a slow wind-up and beginning spinning, pulling in foes and knocking them back. While performing this skill, he evades physical attacks and reflects projectile attacks. Elite enemies found on the walkways around don't need to be killed to continue forward.

Security Room[edit]

To get past this room you will need to do a small puzzle with electric floor and pillars. Before every part the whole floor will illuminate killing everyone standing on it. The only safe place to stand is a small section before this room, pillars when they are already done, as well as a small section of the closed door frame near Door Controls. To finish these small puzzles you need to jump on top of these pillars without been hit by the electricity. If you jump on the pillar while having Invoke Lightning.png Electromagnetic Repulsion effect, you will be kicked back down. After one of the players finishes one of these little puzzles, the whole room will reset. In this moment other players have time to rush to the finished pillar and jump up. After all four pillars are done and each having one player on top of it a Holographic Thug will spawn near first pillar. This enemy goes for those who attack him last. It's important that all four players keep standing on these pillars. If one of them jumps down, this enemy will explode. You need to pull this enemy to the Door Controls so its explosion will EMP the controls and open the door to the next room. Fifth player will need to attack the enemy to get him to follow him to the door. Or player on fourth pillar can use long range skills to damage the enemy and get him to run over to pillar number four. This enemy has a secret stability while using his attack but can be still pulled.

After finishing the last electrical puzzle a final group of Aetherblades will appear in the next room before you get to the final boss. These Aetherblades can be easily dealt with by staying behind a corner and letting them all to come to you.

Final Room[edit]

In this final room of Aetherblade path you will find chained up Clockheart that is been used by the Aetherblade. To free this creature you need to destroy all eight Holopirate Generators that can be found around the room. As before these generators can only be damaged by explosions from killing holographic aetherblades. To not have it as easy the floor will sometimes light up with electricity applying only System Shock.png System Shock effect. The only way to avoid that is to move into different quadrant of the room or jump on a pillar in middle of that quadrant. Destryoing the last generator will free the creature.

  • Clockheart will immediately throw Clockwork Cogs in the air. These are considered as projectiles and can be dealt with projectile protection but can't be reflected back at the boss. Middle floor where this boss was held will keep being under electricity. It's recommended to let the boss walk out from that space so it can be stunned and killed. Standing behind this boss will negate most of his attacks. He could still charge up Aether Power Level.png Aether Power Level to maximum and slam the floor multiple times knocking everyone around him no matter where you stand. If this boss will get Aetherized Shielding (Clockheart).png Aetherized Shielding effect, will prevent all damage dealt to him. To get rid of this effect you need to lure holographic aetherblade near him and kill it next to the boss. Its explosion will cancel this effect.

Optional Events[edit]

To gain achievements from these optional events. These events needs to only be done. You do not need to participate in these events yourself. You have a time limit to finish all of these achievements together. But some of these achievements are even more pressed on timing than others. Starting with first event and that is "Stop the Aetherblade officer from escaping the facility". After finishing killing Clockheart a new door will open back to the previous room where you were killing Foreman Spur. This time you will be on a walkway above the room. On the right side this walkway splits. One path continues around the corner while the other goes up to second event. Continue following the path around the corner and you will find Veteran Aetherblade Officer running away from the ships. Killing him will award you with first achievement.

By talking to Caithe a third achievement can be gained. After that interacting with Suggestion Box will spawn an enemy. This enemy can be diferent rank depending on how many people are inside the room. Killing this enemy will award you with fourth achievement.

Aether Chest map
  • 1 & 2: To reach the area to begin looking, head to the short hallway after the electric room and turn right instead of continuing on towards the Clockheart's room. Take the ramp downwards and drop into the water. Careful as you swim as for the first couple feet, you will be downleveled to level 55, and the piranhas may one-shot you. There will be 2 chests hidden in hexagonal pipes along the wall (1 per pipe).
  • 3: Swim back and run up the ramp. Jump onto the pipe along the wall and then run along the upper grating. Take the left path when you reach a fork and follow the hallway. Jump across the pipes and you'll find another chest. (If you miss the jump, take the upwards path to find yourself back at the fork.)
  • 4: Drop down. To the left you'll see your way back up, to the right, you'll see a dark cave covered in moss. Run down the cave until you reach a fork. The left fork leads to one chest and dead-ends.

Dialogue[edit]

Choosing your path[edit]

Upon entering dungeon:

Lionguard Turma: I'm sorry, but my orders are clear: the Lionguard is here to crush Scarlet's minions and derail their plans.
Lionguard Turma: The Nightmare Court holds part of this facility, but they're not our problem. Our objective is the Aetherblades.
Lionguard Turma: We've got a large strike force standing by, but this security system is damn near impenetrable.
Lionguard Turma: I need volunteers to go in and shut down the power so the full Lionguard continent can storm the facility. Interested?
Caithe: Possibly. I have personal business here that takes precedence, but if I can help you achieve your goals, I will.
Lionguard Turma: Good, you got my message. The Aetherblades are up to something in there, and I need to stop it.
Talk more option tango.png Why are you after the Aetherblades?
They killed Councillor Ashford and terrorized everyone in Lion's Arch during Dragon Bash. I will not let these poltroons have another free shot at my city.
Talk more option tango.png I'm with you. What can I do?
My troops are exellent face to face, but they aren't the Order of Whispers. I need a team to sneak inside and disable the security so my people can enter.
Talk more option tango.png I'm your team. What's next?
Talk to Caithe. She wants to access the base too, but for her own reasons. Maybe you two can help each other out, while opening the doors for the Lionguard.
Talk more option tango.png Why are you after the Aetherblades? (same as above)
Talk end option tango.png Got it.
Talk end option tango.png I'll pass.
Talk end option tango.png Good luck.
Talk more option tango.png What's my part? (same as "I'm with you. What can I do?")
Talk end option tango.png Another time.
Caithe: So many weeds for such small dirt patch. Scarlet's Aetherblades are massing beyond here, and the Nightmare Court is chasing a dark legacy nearby. Which do you want to stop?
Talk more option tango.png Tell me about the Aetherblade situation.
Scarlet's sky pirates carved out a space in this arbor for some nefarious purpose. The Lionguard is here to stop them, but they need help.
Talk back option tango.png I have more questions.
Talk more option tango.png Who's Scarlet?
She is chaos walking, bent on disrupting the world for her twisted enjoyment. She made a point of provoking me with my own secrets, so I'm here to find out how she knows what she knows.
Talk back option tango.png I have another question.
Talk more option tango.png What are the Aetherblades doing here? (same as "Tell me about the Aetherblade situation.")
Talk end option tango.png Good-bye.
Talk more option tango.png What are the Aetherblades doing here? (same as above)
Talk end option tango.png Good-bye.
Talk more option tango.png What's the Nightmare Court up to?
When we drove Faolain out of the arbor, she left behind a new horror: a Nightmare Tree. Some of her followers now seek it. Fortunately, a noble sylvari named Morrigu is standing by to stop them.
Talk back option tango.png Wait, I need to know something else.
Talk more option tango.png Who is Faolain?
She's a sylvari firstborn, like me. We were very close...until she fell into Nightmare. Now she seeks to corrupt the Dream as the Grand Duchess of the Nightmare Court.
Talk back option tango.png I have more questions.
Talk more option tango.png What's a Nightmare Tree?
A twisted mockery of our Pale Mother. It promises anyone who possesses it a way to manifest their darkest desires. It's waiting in the forest for it's new master to come claim the prize.
Talk back option tango.png I have more questions.
Talk more option tango.png Who's Faolain? (same as above.)
Talk end option tango.png Good-bye.
Talk end option tango.png Good-bye.
Talk more option tango.png What's a Nightmare Tree? (same as above)
Talk end option tango.png That's enough for now.
Talk ready option.png I know who I'm going to stop.
Will you aid the Lionguard in their assault against the Aetherblades, or help Morrigu stop the Nightmare Court?
Talk ready option.png I'll take down the Aetherblades. (Level 80)
Talk ready option.png The Nightmare Court must be stopped. (Level 55)
Talk end option tango.png I'm still deciding.
Talk end option tango.png I need to think about this.
Guard: This forest is dangerous. Watch your step. There's more than Nightmare Court to worry about beyond here.
Talk more option tango.png What do you mean?
The refugees talk about terrible beasts stalking the forest floor. Massive spiders, mindless husks, vicious hounds. All vicious, all hungry.
Talk end option tango.png I'll be careful. Thanks.
Talk end option tango.png Thanks for the warning.
Guard: Be careful. The Nightmare Court has caused a tremendous amount of suffering here. Stay armed, and stay aware.
Talk more option tango.png What happened here?
A group of heroes drove The[sic] Nightmare Court from here not long ago, but a handful of them have returned for some terrible purpose.
Talk more option tango.png Which is?
Speak with Morrigu. She'll be able to tell you more. I'm only here to keep these refugees safe.
Talk end option tango.png Good-bye.
Talk end option tango.png Thanks.
Lionguard: Don't give these Aetherblades any slack. They're tough, they're lethal, and their boss Scarlet is crazier than a blind rat in a barrel of snakes.
Talk end option tango.png Understood.

Choosing the Nightmare Court[edit]

Caithe: Good luck against the Nightmare Court. They have it in for me specifically, so it's best that you go without me.
Morrigu: Strange. You don't appear to be a refugee. Have you come to assist me in my fight against the Nightmare Court?
Talk ready option.png Your fight is my fight. Let's go.' (if "The Nightmare Court must be stopped. (Level 55)" was chosen)
Talk more option tango.png Morrigu, don't you recognize me? I aided your forces at Caer Verdant. (if done Shield of the Moon storyline)
<Character name>! Forgive me. That nasty business with Renvari seems so long ago. I'm grateful to see you again. I only wish it was under better circumstances.
Talk more option tango.png What happened?
It started with Leurent, the man I used to love. I followed his trail of blood and bodies here only to learn he was part of a Nightmare Court race to locate a dark, powerful tree.
Talk more option tango.png Tell me about all the Nightmare Court members here.
There are three: the mad Fyonna, the vain Vevina, and the blood-crazed Leurent. Each of them seek the Nightmare Tree. They cannot be allowed to find it.
Talk more option tango.png Tell me more about the Nightmare Tree.
Before Faolain was driven out, she was growing a dark tree, one that will amplify the darkest desires of the tree's owner. Now, three Nightmare courtiers vie to control it.
Talk more option tango.png Tell me more about the courtiers. (same as "Tell me about all the Nightmare Court members here.")
Talk back option tango.png Wait. I want to know about something else.
Talk end option tango.png Good-bye.
Talk more option tango.png Tell me more about Fyonna.
She..she's madness. I heard about her when she stole human children, waiting to claim them as her own. I joined a search party to find them. We only found bodies.
Talk more option tango.png What about Fyonna?
One survivor told us she started adopting spiders, swallowing eggs and letting them hatch inside her. She...she called them her children. And she had an army of them at her side.
Talk more option tango.png How did she end up here?
There were rumors she had come seeking sanctuary from Duchess Faolain after Fyonna stole those children. She must have heard about the Nightmare Tree from Faolain herself.
Talk more option tango.png What will happen if she gets the tree?
If I had to enter that mad chamber that's her head, I'd say she'd summon every spider in the world and control them as they entangle and devour Tyria.
Talk back option tango.png Wait. I want to know about something else.
There's little time to spare, but if you are going to fight the Nightmare Court, you have right to know everything.
Talk more option tango.png Tell me about the Nightmare Court members here. (same as "Tell me about all the Nightmare Court members here.")
Talk more option tango.png Tell me about the Nightmare Tree. (same as "Tell me more about the Nightmare Tree.")
Talk more option tango.png Tell me about the refugees here. (same as "You mentioned refugees earlier." below)
Talk end option tango.png Good-bye.
Talk more option tango.png Tell me more about Vevina.
I remember her, that vain weed. She once lived in the Grove, where she delighted in twisting people to her will. In time, she demanded obedience from the Blessed Mother herself.
Talk more option tango.png What happened?
The Blessed Mother humiliated Vevina in front of her followers. They drifted away from Vevina, which must have been a fate worse than death.
Talk more option tango.png How did she end up here?
She left the Grove, cursing us. I heard she joined the Nightmare Court, seeking new charms to enslave followers. No matter how many she had, she'd crave more.
Talk more option tango.png What will happen if Vevina gets the tree?
She'd use the tree to make everyone bend to her will, praising her until we die. We will all end up as her slaves.
Talk back option tango.png I need to know about something else.
Talk end option tango.png Good-bye.
Talk more option tango.png Tell me more about Leurent.
He was a good man once. A lover, an adventurer, even a hero. Now he craves only bloodshed and war.
Talk more option tango.png What happened?
It was his Wyld Hunt. He was called to save a village from Zhaitan's undead horde. When I heard that the village fell, I mourned Leurent.
Talk more option tango.png But he didn't die.
He returned, darker and different. He blamed me for his failure, saying his love for me weakened him. He left, pledging to bend the world to his order by use of force.
Talk more option tango.png What will happen if he gets the tree?
With the tree's power, he'll march his armies across Tyria, murdering all of his enemies. And we are all his enemy.
Talk back option tango.png I want to ask about something else.
Talk end option tango.png Sounds dangerous. Good-bye.
Talk end option tango.png That's all I need to know.
Talk more option tango.png Tell me about this tree. (same as "Tell me more about the Nightmare Tree.")
Talk more option tango.png I want to know more about Leurent. (same as "I want to know more about Leurent.")
Talk more option tango.png You mentioned refugees earlier.
These poor souls used to live in the arbor, but Nightmare Court members invaded and drove them out. A pair of valiants and I are trying to undo their violence.
Talk more option tango.png Tell me more about the valiants.
They were called here for a Wyld Hunt, seeking to stop the Nightmare Court. I joined them when I heard rumors of Leurent seeking a powerful weapon for his arsenal.
Talk more option tango.png What's the weapon? (same as "Tell me more about the Nightmare Tree.")
Talk more option tango.png I take it you know this Leurent.
Yes. I do know him. Knew, rather. He was once my love, but now he seeks warfare and blood. He must be stopped, and I[sic] have to put a blade to his throat, I shall.
Talk more option tango.png Tell me about this tree. (same as "Tell me more about the Nightmare Tree.")
Talk more option tango.png Tell me about the Nightmare Court here. (same as "Tell me about all the Nightmare Court members here.")
Talk more option tango.png These refugees. What happened here? (same as "You mentioned refugees earlier.")
Talk more option tango.png Tell me more about Leurent. (same as "I want to know more about Leurent.")
Talk end option tango.png Not interested.
Talk back option tango.png Wait. I want to know about something else.
Talk end option tango.png Another time.
Talk more option tango.png What's this about the Nightmare Court? (same as "Tell me more about the Nightmare Tree.")
Talk end option tango.png Good-bye.
Talk end option tango.png Good-bye.
Talk end option tango.png Another time, then.
Talk more option tango.png What's the Nightmare Court doing here? (same as "Tell me more about the Nightmare Tree.")
Talk more option tango.png Refugees? What happened here? (same as "You mentioned refugees earlier.")
Talk end option tango.png Just passing through.

Upon selecting "Your fight is my fight. Let's go." in above dialogue with Morrigu (cinematic):

Morrigu: Before she was driven away, Duchess Faolain of the Nightmare Court nurtured a terrible tree into existence.
Morrigu: Whomever possesses it will have their darkest desires granted. As I speak, three Nightmare Courtiers are seeking it out.
Morrigu: Leurent, the Count of Blood, will use the Nightmare Tree to wage war on all of Tyria.
Morrigu: Vevina, the Countess of Obedience, will use the tree to force us all to worship her without choice or question.
Morrigu: And Fyonna, the Countess of Spiders...it's too horrible to even speak of her schemes. She must be stopped.
Morrigu: Two valiants are already battling those courtiers, but we need more to defeat them.

At Reception Hall (repeats):

Elite Refugee (1): I can still feel it. I never knew so much pain could be inflicted.
Elite Refugee (1): I can still hear the voices in my head. All that whispering, like tiny teeth eating me from the inside out.
Elite Refugee (2): You are safe now. You'll never be in one of those conversion pods again.
Sylvari Warden: I caution you against departing again too soon.
Elite Refugee: Why? Will my nightmares hurt the Pale Tree?
Sylvari Warden: Not as such. Those experiences are already a part of the dream, but you've been through a terrible ordeal.
Sylvari Warden: Take some time to recuperate, and regain your strength before facing the outside world again.
Elite Refugee (1): Have you seen Salonna? She was behind me, but we were separated.
Elite Refugee (2): The scouts found...some of her. They believe the hounds got to her.

Talking to allies:

Elite Refugee: Please. Don't hurt me. I can't take any more suffering.
Talk more option tango.png Tell me what happened.
I thought it would be safe after Faolain was forced out, but it is worse. There are teams of them, flowing through the arbor in mad fury.
Talk more option tango.png What do you mean?
I saw three Nightmare courtiers searching for something. One had spiders at her side. Another marched in like an army. The last one drew minions to her ranks with just a few words and a gaze.
Talk end option tango.png Thanks. Stay here. You'll be safe.
Talk end option tango.png I'll keep an eye out for them.
Charisma You can trust me. I'm one of the good guys. What happened here?
Darkness invaded this place. A cruel, vile darkness. Factions of the Nightmare Court stormed this forest, killing anything that defied them. We fled, but not all of us made it.
Talk more option tango.png I'll take care of this. Just tell me what happened here. (Same as "What do you mean?")
Dignity Don't worry. I won't let anyone harm you anymore.
If only others had your kindness. But I fear you are too late. The Nightmare Court has returned to this forest in force. It is as if Faolain was never driven out.
Talk more option tango.png It's all right now. Tell me what you saw.
I saw three Nightmare courtiers searching for something. One had spiders at her side. Another marched in like an army. The last one drew minions to her ranks with just a few words and a gaze.
Talk end option tango.png I'll investigate this violence. Stay here. You'll be protected.
Ferocity Tell me what happened here before I show you what real suffering is.
You're just made of thorns. You're just like the cruel factions of the Nightmare Court who stormed through here, killing and laughing at once.
Talk more option tango.png Enough whining. Just tell me what happened.
I saw three Nightmare courtiers searching for something. One had spiders at her side. Another marched in like an army. The last one drew minions to her ranks with just a few words and a gaze.
Talk end option tango.png Sounds like bunch of pushovers. Just like you.
Talk end option tango.png Good-bye.
Elite Refugee: Please. You have to get rid of them. They killed my love.
Talk more option tango.png What happened here? Who are they?
Nightmare Court. I could tell by the coldness in their laughs and blades in their hands. They stormed through the forest chanting about "Faolain's gift."
Talk more option tango.png Do you know what they were talking about?
I heard something about a tree. Perhaps they meant the dark tree. Such a horrible thing. It would suit those...monsters.
Talk more option tango.png Tell me more about the dark tree.
It's far into the arbor, secluded in a cove. It's unlike any tree I've seen. It seems twisted, cruel, as if it was whittled out of hatred. I heard Faolain brought[sic] into being herself.
Talk end option tango.png Interesting. Thanks.
Talk end option tango.png Good-bye.
Talk more option tango.png What happened to your love?
I held Verran's hand as we ran from the dark armies that stormed the arbor. We tried to run, but...they grabbed him and cut him to pieces.
Talk end option tango.png Who did this? (Same as "What happened here? Who are they?")
Talk end option tango.png Good-bye.
Talk end option tango.png Good-bye.
Talk end option tango.png Good-bye.

Upon approaching the first Volatile Blossoms:

Morrigu: Be careful. Those volatile blossoms are dangerous.

Upon engaging Nightmare Vines:

Morrigu: Foul and hungry vines! Prune them back!

When Greater Nightmare Vine spawns:

Morrigu: Look out!

Upon defeating Nightmare Vines:

Morrigu: Oh, the horror. They've butchered him.
Morrigu: I promise you: your death will not be in vain.
Morrigu: There are two paths. Which one shall I open? (opens dialogue window)

After defeating Nightmare Vines:

Another set of doors. This brave valiant left us one explosive. Which door should I open?
Talk quest choice tango.png Let's keep moving forward.
Talk quest choice tango.png Let's go up.

Interacting with the body:

This valiant's body looks as if it had been bitten by thousands of tiny teeth. Some pieces of the corpse are missing, while others are covered in webbing.
Talk end option tango.png Leave.

Choosing Leurent's Path (Up)[edit]

Talking to Morrigu after choosing split:

Morrigu: Be quick. Leurent seeks the Nightmare Tree. I know that if he gains it, it will tear through Tyria like giant sword.
Talk end option tango.png Then let's stop him.

Upon reaching Malrona:

Morrigu: (shudders) It's Fyonna's horrid champion, Malrona.

Talking to Morrigu:

Morrigu: Kill everything. The spiders...all of them. Kill them!
Talk end option tango.png Hold on. I'll take care of this.

Upon reaching Fyonna:

Vevina: You treacherous monster. I will tear all of your spiders apart for turning on me.
Fyonna: Oh, your bluster is charming, my sweet. But you couldn't have believed I would rule alongside you.
Fyonna: My children deserve Faolain's gift, and with it I shall let them feast on the whole world.
Vevina: Your spiders are above me? I hope Leurent skewers you and leaves you to rot in the shade.
Fyonna: Oh, don't be like that, sweetie. You are rather special. After all, my children haven't eaten in a long time.

After defeating Fyonna (cinematic):

<Character name>: Two down, one to go. Leurent should be a pushover compared to those two.
Morrigu: Not hardly. I know what he's capable of.
<Character name>: Are you holding something back?
Morrigu: I loved him. I thought we would be entwined forever. But the bloodlust consumed him and took his mind.
Morrigu: Be ready for war-his true mistress. And if you're worried about me, don't be. I can face him. I moved on long ago.

Talking to Morrigu after defeating Fyonna:

Morrigu: There is nothing between us and Leurent's anger. Be ready for him, for he'll hunt and kill you for his enjoyment.
Talk end option tango.png He better be ready for me.

Upon locating the Nightmare Tree (cinematic):

Morrigu: Put away your rage, my lost love. Come with me, or you'll lose yourself to this twisted growth.
Leurent: I see you brought outsiders. Did they fall for your whining about love and mercy?
Morrigu: You were the only one I ever loved. But you chose blood over my tenderness.
Morrigu: I did not want to face you again, my darling. But I can't let you have this awful tree.
Morrigu: I know your rage. I know your hatred. If you give yourself to this tree, you will burn the world.
Leurent: Yes, yes I will. You will all bear witness to it. Especially you, my "love." Suffer, break, and burn!

Upon defeating the Nightmare Tree (cinematic):

Morrigu: The shock of Leurent's passing will be brief, but the wound will never fully heal.
Morrigu: Please, leave me to mourn. I must tend to the fallen and put my dear to rest.

Talking to Morrigu after defeating the Nightmare Tree:

Morrigu: Leurent. My broken friend, my ruined love. Rest and sleep in the peace you always pushed away from.
Talk more option tango.png What will you do now?
I'll mourn Leurent, but rage burned away all he used to be. At least I know he'll no longer harm anyone else.
Talk more option tango.png What about the Nightmare Tree?
Like Leurent, it is no more. It will have to be broken into pieces and burned, just to make sure no one can revive it for their vile purposes.
Talk more option tango.png What will you do now? (same as above)
Talk end option tango.png Good-bye.
Talk end option tango.png Good-bye.
Talk more option tango.png What about the Nightmare Tree? (same as above)
Talk more option tango.png I take it this Wyld Hunt is at an end for you?
This was not my Wyld Hunt. This was an act of mercy, for my lost love and for the people who he attacked. The kodan speak of balance. In a way, I suppose I was trying to right a wrong.
Talk more option tango.png What will you do now? (same as above)
Talk more option tango.png What about the Nightmare Tree? (same as above)
Talk end option tango.png Good-bye.
Talk end option tango.png Good-bye.

Choosing Vevina's Path (Forward)[edit]

Upon choosing the path:

Morrigu: I'm so sorry. I tried to get here as soon as I could.
Morrigu: I will sing of your bravery to the Pale Tree.

Interacting with the body:

What remains barely looks like a body. Limbs are broken, bark has been peeled away, and shards of steel have been shoved into this sylvari's face.
Talk end option tango.png Leave.

Upon reaching elite guards:

Morrigu: Leurent's elite guard. Be careful. They'll show no mercy.

Upon reaching Leurent:

Fyonna: You didn't have to massacre my children.
Leurent: The first lesson in war is to wipe out your enemy. And that includes generals and foot soldiers alike.
Fyonna: But we agreed to crush that vainglorious Vevina. Your soldiers won't last against her charms, you know.
Leurent: When the Nightmare Tree is mine, I'll use her as kindling to burn down the Grove.
Leurent: Pity you weren't more clever. Perhaps I would have found a better place for you in my ranks. Kill her!

After defeating Leurent:

Morrigu: Leurent. I loved him once, more than I loved anyone in this world.

Upon locating the Nightmare Tree (cinematic):

Vevina: Faolain! I have come for your prize. I have twisted the weak and pitted allies against one another.
Vevina: I have proved my worth, and with your prize I shall march into the Grove. I will make the Pale Tree bow to me!
Morrigu: Vevina! Stand away from that vile tree. We will not let you enslave anyone for your own vanity.
Vevina: How delightful! A crowd. You will be first to watch my glorious transformation.
Vevina: And you will be the first to bend your knees and serve me without question.

Upon defeating the Nightmare Tree (cinematic):

Morrigu: Vevina's mad chase for adoration is over. It shall not bring back my friends, but the Grove is safe.
Morrigu: I thank you for your bravery. Together, we have stood against darkness and prevailed.

Choosing the Aetherblades[edit]

Once the path has been selected:

(If sylvari)
Caithe: I'm glad to see the Lionguard putting its trust in you, but this is a sylvari problem, and we should handle it.
(Otherwise)
Caithe: I respect the Lionguard, but I have my own agenda. Luckily with you here we can all get what we want.
Caithe: I met Scarlet in the Grove, before she went on her academic pilgrimage. I was not overly impressed.
Caithe: Now she's sent me a direct challenge. She claims to know things...things I wouldn't want the world to know.
Caithe: It doesn't matter what she has on me, or thinks she has. I just want to find out how she's acquiring these secrets.
Caithe: I say we collaborate. You follow the Lionguard's plan. Confront the enemy head-on while I undermine them from the shadows.
Caithe: The Lionguard gets in, I access one of Scarlet's inner sanctums, and she suffers a double setback. See you inside, partner.
Caithe: I'll be with you every step of the way, but you won't see me until I want you to. And neither will Scarlet.
Caithe: We don't know Scarlet's defense system, but she doesn't know we're here. Maybe we can surprise her for a change.

Arriving at Ooze Font:

Scarlet Briar Hologram: You must be the intruders. Could it be my guest of honor got my invite and came out to play? Oh, happy day!
Scarlet Briar Hologram: Brrr... Is anyone else cold? I think it's time for another mass execution. Throw some more prisoners on the fire!
Caithe: I thought Scarlet was this great engineer with radical ideas. Pfft. All I see around here are the same old poison plants.

In Ooze Font:

Sparki: More mulch for the compost heap, eh? Prisoners! Listen up!
Sparki: It's time to make whatever spiritual mumblings you people make when death comes for you.
Slick: Because it has. Scarlet said, Catch and burn anyone who doesn't run fast enough. You should have run faster.
Caithe: The door mechanism is jammed. Use that goo to lure the oozes to it. That should loosen things up.
Caithe: The oozes seem drawn to that goo. Steer them past the flames and onto the door mechanism.
Caithe: Don't let the ooze burn before they reach the door.
Caithe: Oozes are a tar elemental's favorite dish. Keep them away from each other or we'll never get through this door.

Once the gate it open:

Scarlet Briar[sic]: Today's mass executions have concluded, but we have plenty more scheduled tomorrow. And the next day, and the next...
Caithe: It's working: Scarlet's security system is focused on you, which allows me to move freely.
Caithe: I appreciate you taking most of the risk. If all goes well, it'll pay off for both of us and the Lionguard in the end.
Caithe: So let's keep moving. I'll scout an alternate route past the next obstacle and meet you on the other side.

Entering Ferndog Backwoods:

Caithe: Plenty of Scarlet holograms, but I wonder if she's actually here. I certainly hope so.
Caithe: Once I get my hands on her, it won't matter what she knows or how she knows it. See you soon.

In Ferndog Backwoods:

Scarlet Briar Hologram: Make me proud, my minions. Or at least make me laugh. Come on, kill something! Make it messy!
Scarlet Briar Hologram: Ah, team? Why aren't these intruders dead yet? Why do you think I pay you-slash-allow you to live?
Scarlet Briar Hologram: If I have to treat you guard dogs like actual dogs, so be it: Who's a cute little puppy? Kill, puppy, kill. Good dog!

Cutscene when entering The Clearcut:

Scarlet Briar Hologram: Have I mentioned how much I love unusual pairings? Because I do, and as such, I present Sparki and Slick!
Sparki: Prepare to be barbecued.
Slick: Let the boss talk, Spark. She spent a lot of time setting up these messages.
Scarlet Briar Hologram: They complement each other perfectly. Just like fire needs fuel and fuel needs ignition.
Scarlet Briar Hologram: But don't take my word for it. Sparki? Slick? Show 'em what you can do. And make it burn.

Fighting Sparki and Slick:

Sparki: I have no use for all this toxic horticulture. Die, stupid plants!
Slick: Jormag take these oozes! They're sucking up all my beautiful oil! (repeated several times during the fight)
Slick: Your armor sounds rusty. Let me oil that for you. (75% health)
Slick: You can't win. We will break you and burn you. (50% health)
Slick: That does it. Time to work harder, not smarter—wait, that's not right. (25% health)
Slick: Now I have to kill you, or Scarlet will kill me for taking so long. (when Sparki dies)
Sparki: How do you want to be buried? Well done or medium-rare? (75% health)
Sparki: Oh, you're very lucky. And you're about to be very dead. (50% health)
Sparki: So, you want to play rough? Here's a little game I like to call "Inferno." (25% health)
Sparki: Suit functions critical! If this keeps up, the whole thing will melt and I'll be fighting naked. (when Slick dies)

Entering Outlook of Woe:

Caithe: There's a large room ahead that's buzzing with activity. I can see the main power source.
Caithe: There's some sort of energy shield protecting it. We'll need to break through to let your Lionduard friends in.
Caithe: Let's move. Follow the power cables forward and I'll meet you at the next junction.

In Outlook of Woe:

Aetherblade Swashbuckler: I saw one of those holos that looked just like me. It was funny right up to the point it exploded.
Veteran Aetherblade Grenadier: This isn't going to be as easy as we thought. Finally, foes worth killing.
Aetherblade Thug: I like these holos. They don't eat or claim a share of the booty, and they take the enemy with them when they die.
Aetherblade Thug: Following Scarlet's lead is dangerous, but it's also profitable. Not to mention fun.
Aetherblade Grenadier: Clear the vegetation, build the ships, kill the intruders... There better be some serious coin at the end of this.
Scarlet Briar Hologram: Work. Work harder! You can't convert a dire cavern of dread and misery into an arms factory by wishing for it.
Scarlet Briar Hologram: I love my holorgamatic pirates. All the punch of the flesh and blood variety, with none of the strange odors.
Scarlet Briar Hologram: I'm still registering intruders, Aetherblades. Finish them off. And keep everyone clear of those generators.
Aetherblade Taskmaster: Stick together! Scarlet will flay us with rusty blades if we break!
Aetherblade Thug: Hold fast. Whatever they do to us Scarlet will do worse if we lose.

Cutscene when you enter Aetherblade Shipyard:

Aetherblade Foreman Spur: Incoming arrival! Clear the landing zone. Step lively!
Aetherblade Foreman Spur: If even one airship gets so much as scratched, I'll make belts and boots out of every last one of you.
Aetherblade Foreman Spur: We're already way behind schedule. If you lot want to get back to plundering full-time, pick up the pace.
Aetherblade Foreman Spur: Ships in, ships out. Scarlet want's an entire fleet in the air, and nobody rests until she gets it. Move!

After the cutscene:

Scarlet Briar Hologram: Ooh, is that Caithe sneaking around my facility? It must be—no one else could have gotten this far before being detected.
Scarlet Briar Hologram: You got my invitation! I was afraid you'd be all aloof and distant. You know, like you want people to think you are.
Scarlet Briar Hologram: But I know better. I know you. How nasty you fight, how you think...what you did. And what you did is soooo nasty.
Caithe: Are you even here? Stop hiding behind prerecorded nonsense. Come out and face me.
Scarlet Briar Hologram: Ooh, and I just realized: I know something about you even Faolain doesn't know.
Scarlet Briar Hologram: Does that mean we're dating? Should I start calling you dearheart?
Caithe: Keep babbling. When I find you, I'm going to shut your mouth for good.
Caithe: That vicious little—if Scarlet's here, I'm going to find her. And she'll wish I hadn't.
Caithe: Let's go. You follow the main cable forward. I'll meet you at the next junction, and we'll go through it together.
Caithe: And feel free to make as much noise as you like. The louder you are, the easier it is for me to clear a path for you.

Before aggroing Foreman Spur (ambient, not in chat):

Aetherblade Foreman Spur: Look alive, you mangy mutts. You know the drill. We've got a schedule to keep.
Aetherblade Foreman Spur: You slackers have a choice: face my wrath, or face Scarlet's. Either way, you lose.
Aetherblade Foreman Spur: Scarlet wants more ships, so we build ships. A pirate crew is only as dangerous as their vessel.

Fighting Foreman Spur:

Aetherblade Foreman Spur: All hands! Battle stations! Those uninvited guests we heard about are here.
Aetherblade Foreman Spur: Two days off for whoever cuts their throats. Three if you make them suffer first.

Entering the Security Room:

Caithe: Tread lightly. The defenses in this room aren't active, but I have no idea what triggers them.
Caithe: I can't do much from this side of the door, but I did get a good look at the layout. I think I can guide you through.
Caithe: The floor's supposed to be electrified. Those platforms figure into the control scheme somehow.
Caithe: Too bad we didn't bring one of those holo-generators. The blast they make would get through this door faster that I can.
Caithe: I think—never mind! They've found me! There's too many... Get in here as fast as you—
Aetherblade: Take her down. Hold her tight. Scarlet has plans for this one.
Aetherblade: We've got her. Okay, turn the system back on!

Once the gate is open:

Scarlet Briar: That Caithe... She's a panic, isn't she? One of the smartest, sneakiest sylvari alive, and I caught her. Easily.
Scarlet Briar: I wouldn't worry about Caithe if I were you. Whoever you are, you've got more serious problems.
Scarlet Briar: Yoo-hoo, Aetherblades? I got what I wanted. Fry the rest of the intruders and start digging another mass grave.

On the way to Clockheart Generator:

Caithe: Don't worry about me. This looks worse than it is.
Caithe: I don't mind being captured, but I can't stand another of Scarlet's drivel.
Scarlet Briar: I'll give the Nightmare Court your regards, Caithe. And won't they love to hear about your little indiscretion?
Scarlet Briar: I knew you'd want to see the heart of my new facility, Caithe. So tell me: how do you like it?
Scarlet Briar: What do you think the Pale tree will say when she finds out what you did? Or does she already know?
Scarlet Briar: Nice and comfy, Caithe? I only wish I was there to tuck you in.
Scarlet Briar: All hands to the main power core. This is not a drill—though I will use a drill on you if you fail.
Scarlet Briar: I know a secret, I know a secret... Caithe's secret, in fact. And soon, so will everybody else.
Scarlet Briar: Such lovely, juicy secrets, Caithe. It's just not fair to keep them all to yourself.

Entering Clockheart Generator:

Scarlet Briar: Red alert! Someone's trying to shut down my fun house!
Caithe: You have to shut that thing down! It's shielded, but you can handle that.

Cutscene when the Clockheart is defeated:

Scarlet Briar Hologram: This is a recorder message. The system is temporarily down. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Lionguard Turma: This is it, Lionguard! Time to make these sky pirates pay for Theo Ashford.
Lionguard Turma: Take down every Aetherblade you see. Wreck every piece of machinery you find.
Lionguard Turma: We're not leaving until this entire place is a dead, smoking hole in the ground.
Lionguard Turma: That'll send Scarlet the message: you can't hide from Lion's Arch justice.

After the cutscene:

Caithe: I fell for Scarlet's trap like a rank amateur. If you weren't here—let's just say I'm glad you were. I owe you one.

Optional objectives[edit]

Optional event starts:

Caithe: I'm still determined to find Scarlet's control room. I'll leave the rest to you and your Lionguard friends.
Caithe: They do seem motivated, don't they? I know how they feel. I owe Scarlet one, too.
Caithe: If I find her... when I find her, I'll be sure to let you know.
Caithe: You've earned the right to see her fall. And she will. I'll make sure of that. Until then.
Caithe: Could she have learned about me from Faolain? Or maybe the Dream itself?
Caithe: I don't need to know where she is, just where she plots.
Caithe: Where are you hiding, Scarlet? More to the point, where are you hiding your secrets?

Arriving at Scarlet's secret room:

Caithe: I think this is the door, but I won't know until I figure out how to open it.
Scarlet Briar Hologram: While the system is down, feel free to add any constructive feedback you have to the suggestion box.

Interacting with the Suggestion Box:

Scarlet Briar Hologram: You found me? Good for you, Caithe! Not that it'll do you any good. My secrets are still safe. Yours, however...

Once the door closes behind you:

Scarlet Briar Hologram: Well done, Caithe. You made it into my secret sanctum. Now the question is: what are you going to do here?
Scarlet Briar Hologram: What a shame: all that effort, and the only secret of mine you'll find here is one you already know.
Scarlet Briar Hologram: How do I know your secrets Caithe? Simple: I know everything worth knowing. And almost everything else too.

After defeating the Twisted Nightmare:

Scarlet Briar Hologram: You breached my inner sanctum, but surprise! The only secret I kept here was yours. Better luck next time.
Scarlet Briar Hologram: Aww, did you think this was over and you had triumphed? I'm far from beaten, hero. Soon you'll see just how far.
Caithe: Thanks again. Scarlet was clearly trying to snare me, but she didn't count on you watching my back.
Caithe: Please don't tell Rytlock about me getting captured. Or, Pale Mother forbid, Zojja. I'd never hear the end of it.
Caithe: I knew Scarlet was toying with me, but I didn't realize how far she'd go. I can almost feel her laughing. Go ahead and laugh, little weed. I will find you.
Talk more option tango.png What's so special about Scarlet?
She knows something she shouldn't, and I need to know how she found out. I don't like the idea of my past being some lunatic's plaything. Some secrets should never see the light of the day.
Talk more option tango.png What does she know?
Forgive me, but I can't share that yet. It's a dangerous thing to know. When I'm ready, you'll be among the first to hear it, but that's the point: It's my secret to tell, not hers.
Talk end option tango.png Okay, have your secrets.
Defending the Lionguard
Lionguard Turma: The Captain's Council sends its regards, you scum.

After defending the Lionguard:

Lionguard Turma: I knew we could count on you. We'll take it from here.
Lionguard Turma: Of course, if you want to help, we're glad to let you in on the fun.
Lionguard Turma: We're going to cripple the sky ships they're building and break the machinery so they can't make more.
Lionguard Turma: Then we're going to round up the Aetherblade officers and mop up any grunts too stupid to surrender.
Lionguard Turma: If you're interested, don't wait for an invitation: jump in and start dishing out the payback.

Notes[edit]

On rare occasions, when doing the forward path, the spiderweb door blocking the entrance to the historical Forward/Up is not present, allowing players to enter and fight some husks. However, a bridge is missing shortly after, and the boss doesn't spawn, so the path remains incompletable.
The Aetherblade path's main objective is "Explore Twilight Arbor and stop the Nightmare Court" even though the story objective there is to defeat Scarlet and her Aetherblades, who are not a part of the Nightmare Court.
  • In-game description:

Twilight Arbor's explorable mode is now available. This time, the plants punch harder. (The story version must be completed first.)

— Level 55 rewards.

Trivia[edit]

  • There is a male and female Aetherblade couple found bathing, without armor, in a side room after the Ooze Font of the Aetherpath. They fight back with standard weaponry.
