Vaolt Sharpstrike is a charr warrior from the Blood Legion. He views charr as the supreme race on Tyria and sneers at anyone who has friendly interactions with other races.
Biography[edit]
Vaolt Sharpstrike embraced the ideals of Blood Legion while growing up, viewing charr of his legion as supreme warriors. After meeting with like-minded charr, he began viewing any charr who had friendly relations with other races as lesser than the "true" charr that he represented. These ideas would eventually lead him to mingle with the extremist Renegades.
During the All-Legion Rally in Grothmar Valley in 1332 AE, Vaolt's little sister and other Blood Legion youths spotted the aged Erasmus Fangstorm assisting the visiting asura Gorrik in defending the cattle of Fangstorm's Farmhouse from invasive devourers. They viewed Erasmus's collaboration with an asura distasteful and decided to teach him a lesson by trespassing on the old farmer's lawn and insulting him. After passing visitors helped Erasmus shoo off the young troublemakers, Vaolt's sister threatened to find his brother, who had just been promoted, and that Vaolt would make Erasmus and the outsiders sorry.
The sister found Vaolt, who had gotten drunk while celebrating his promotion into legionnaire, and told him what had happened. The enraged Vaolt rushed to confront Erasmus and shouted that the farmer believed himself to be better than his fellow charr. When Erasmus tried to explain that Vaolt's sister had trespassed on his property, the angry legionnaire used a counterargument that all of Grothmar Valley was charr territory and that he did not view Erasmus as a real charr who deserved a piece of land.
The two charr clashed, and Vaolt mocked Erasmus for being weak after being away from the battlefield for so long. However, the visitors helped Erasmus once again by defeating the drunk legionnaire. Humiliated and angry, the retreating Vaolt stated that Erasmus had been lucky to have friends around to save him but those friends would not be around all the time to save him from further assaults.
Some time later during the celebration, Vaolt and a number of Renegades led by Veteran Ulixes Swiftreaver met discreetly with Centurion Ryland Steelcatcher who informed them that he would be leading an expedition north with Imperator Bangar Ruinbringer. Before leaving, Ryland ordered the group to kidnap the Pact Commander's friend Gorrik and search his datapad for intel on the Commander's Elder Dragon ally Aurene and if Aurene had any strengths or weaknesses. The centurion also reminded them to stay put and not act against the other imperators attending the rally until Bangar had evened the odds against them.
The group found Gorrik and "encouraged" him to accompany them. After escorting the asura to the war room in the Blood Keep, they confiscated his datapad and tried to search it for the information they were after, only to discover hundreds of drawings of spiders instead much to their confusion. While studying the datapad, they realized that Gorrik was using a remote communicator to speak with someone, so they quickly smashed it to prevent further discussions.
Before the Renegades could decide what to do with Gorrik, they saw Ryland arriving at the war room. Although the Renegades were confused at first why Ryland was asking them about the expedition which he had mentioned earlier, they soon came to the conclusion that Ryland was suffering from a hangover after spending the day drinking with the Commander's norn ally Braham Eirsson.
Unbeknownst to the Renegades, however, the centurion who had come for Gorrik was not actually Ryland but the Pact Commander under a mesmer illusion. The Commander had the option to either play along and lie about taking Gorrik with him and ostensibly finish off the asura out of sight, or use violence against Gorrik's captors to free him.
Regardless of how the disguised Commander dealt with the Renegades, Vaolt and his companions would not lay a hand on Gorrik again while being oblivious that they had been tricked.
