General Philosophy[edit]

When I look at what new players ask when they first walk into the world of Tyria, all I see are questions about what they should do and in what order. Answers to these questions may vary but they usually boil down to "do the hearts", "look for vistas and point of interests" or "do whatever you like, everything is rewarding in this game". While actually true, these answers might not help new players to truly enjoy the game. In the following I present my answer for the beginner's question: explore in an intelligent way.

Explore? You are right to be doubtfull, as when looking online for map completion, one may already find plenty of guides emphasizing on fast completion of a given map. However, my point is that they solely aim to minmax the time spent by the player on the map. This kind of fast-map-completion-guides are really useful for seasonned players who seek to achieve world completion as fast as possible for recieving their gifts of exploration. However, one might not be interested in this way of completing maps which can be repetitive and involve a lot of grinding. Instead, one -especially if they are a new player- might turn toward a softer approach. The guides I present here aim at delivering a new player experience of exploration which is slowly pathed, focused on the story of the open-world and that delivers some challenges -especially if you are doing these while leveling.

Why might one require such a guide as exploration seems to be more about freedom than following directions you might ask. Let me remark that these roadmaps rely on the occurence on dynamics and meta events on the map to naturally guide the flow of the payer. They also encompass specific aspects of maps such as jumping puzzles and mini-dungeons. Visiting a map along with following events is very interesting in several ways. Firstly, it allows to complete hearts while doing something immersive and meaningful. Secondly it adds some meat to the lore of the map and deepen the understanding of what's happening there for the player. Finally, when taking the form of escorts, events lead the player from on area of the map to an other in a natural way. To that purpose, one must know in advance where the events are and have a good understanding of the order in which the areas of the map have been designed to be visited. This can only be achieved by a player that already knows the map to some extent and is consequently out of reach for the new player.

Every roadmap is tested with a character who starts map exploration at the lower level of the map. For instance, let us take Kessex Hills, the roadmap have been tested with a character that was lvl 15 at the beginning of the exploration. In that way I hope to provide a viable experience for new players that provide them with both time to learn their professions and some challenging opponents. Note that although these guides are mostly aimed at relatively new players that seek to gently discover the game, they can nevertheless by useful to the more seasoned player that seek to pass some chilling time on a map !

Movement of the Races[edit]

I tried to provide each races with a specific path on the world of Tyria. Starting Sparkly Fen, all pathes will converge. This aims at delivering a good vision of the diverse issues on Tyria for each race. Some races end up travelling around a lot more than others, but I think that all paths are diverse enough and cohesive. Also not necessary, story missions can be a good way to gain experience when you feel that you are bit overwhelmed by foes at some point. However, while testing this map, no additional experience gains from story instances have been needed. For new and veteran players who seek more insight on the chronology of the story, please refer to this guide on Reddit.
