Prophecy is a magical technique that involves the use of divination to gain insight into future events. The art of prophecy itself is rarely referred to in Guild Wars 2, however the predictions obtained from it, called prophecies, often are. Someone who conveys a prophecy is called a prophet. Examples of prophets include the Elonian Order of the Sky, who attempted to see the future in the stars, or the dragon champion Glint.
The asura take a different view of prophecy from the other races, attempting to make predictions through the Eternal Alchemy. The results, nonetheless, are the same. Canthan culture in particularly emphasized the value of astrological divination, which formed a large part of their Canthan New Year Festival, and the sylvari are able to see glimpses of possible futures through the Dream of Dreams before their Awakening. Indeed, in a sense all Wyld Hunts are prophecies.
List of prophecies[edit]
Stormcaller[edit]
- Culture
- Human, specifically Ascalonian.
- Details
- When the lost mouthpiece of the legendary warhorn of King Doric, the pipes of which could once be seen on Horn Hill outside of Rin, is found, and the horn blown, the enemies of Ascalon will be rendered helpless.
- Validity
- The horn was found and blown, creating a storm that put out the invading Flame Legion's Sacred Flames. The charr were weakened and retreated, but later conquered the city. The Iron Legion's Black Citadel now stands on the site of the battle, and the broken horn is on display at Storm Caller Triumph.
- Fulfilled?
- Came to pass in 1072 AE
Flameseeker Prophecies[edit]
- Culture
- Unknown
- Details
- Ascalon will fall, Prince Rurik will die, those whose departure caused the gods to weep (presumably the titans) will come, the dead will rise, the Chosen ones will rise and be led to the Hall of Heroes, the mursaat will meet their demise at the hands of the Chosen, breaking their stranglehold on the lands of Kryta "and beyond", the titans will be sealed behind the Door of Komalie, and Tyria will be revived again. See Flameseeker Verse for more detail.
- Validity
- Although open to interpretation (many, such as Turai Ossa, incorrectly believed that they were the Chosen ones and died attempting to Ascend as a result), the prophecies were eventually proved correct.
- Fulfilled?
- The Flameseeker Prophecies, compiled by Glint approximately 800 years prior, came to pass in 1072 AE.
The Harvest Ceremony[edit]
- Culture
- Human, specifically Canthan.
- Details
- The story of Shiro Tagachi will be one told by generations. His swords will be sought by many. He will do things no man will dare, and his name will live on for a thousand years. He will be rewarded for his service to Emperor Angsiyan, and will be singled out for something very important. Later, this was modified to include that the emperor fears Shiro's great power, and will kill him for it.
- Validity
- Everything in the prophecy did come to pass as foretold, however, it's possible that much of this was due to a combination of manipulation and dark magic by the Fortune Teller, who was in actuality a demon enthralled to the forgotten god Abaddon. In this sense, it is a self-fulfilling prophecy.
- Fulfilled?
- Came to pass in 872 AE, directly causing the Jade Wind.
Shiro's Return[edit]
- Culture
- Human, foretold by Suun and conveyed by Ransujun the Prophet. Also foretold by Headmaster Amara of the Shing Jea Monastery.
- Details
- A sickness will come to Cantha, a plague that will turn even the meek into raging monsters that kill everything they see. Cantha will be saved from the Affliction by Emperor Kisu.
- Validity
- The death of Emperor Kisu would have meant doom for Cantha, in a sense, since Shiro sought out royal blood, but found it in the death of Master Togo anyway. Otherwise, Kisu's part in the salvation of Cantha was a small one.
- Fulfilled?
- Came to pass in 1072 AE.
Night Falls[edit]
- Culture
- Human.
- Details
- The fallen god Abaddon will return to the world. See Guild Wars Wiki for more detail.
- Validity
- With the help of his prophet, Varesh Ossa, Abaddon came close to returning to the world, but was stopped when heroes entered the Realm of Torment and defeated him there. His death led to the Ascension of Kormir.
- Fulfilled?
- Never came to pass.
The lost Dynasty[edit]
- Culture
- Human, specifically Elonian.
- Details
- A lost spirit in the desolate southern portion of the Crystal Desert claimed that, to use their exact words, "The Dynasties still live in my dreams. There is another true-blooded heir...". This probably refers to either the Primeval Dynasty or the Great Dynasty rather than one of the dynasties of the Shattered Dynasty Era, although there are arguments for and against both of these possibilities.
- Validity
- No way of knowing. This was said over two centuries ago, so if such an heir ever existed, they died long ago. This does not preclude the possibility that their lineage continues, however.
- Fulfilled?
Rise of Palawa Joko[edit]
- Culture
- Again, human Elonian.
- Details
- A dynastic spirit from long ago said that Palawa Joko would rise again, and the spirits must prepare to fight him "forever". They claimed that they could "feel the powers rising" in the Crystal Desert.
- Validity
- The Scourge of Vabbi did indeed rise again to conquer Elona, though whether this qualifies as a true prophecy or just a gut feeling backed by probability is open for debate.
- Fulfilled?
Revitalisation of the Crystal Desert[edit]
- Culture
- Desert cultures, mainly Elonian.
- Details
- According to the Sky Scholars, "the Crystal Desert will become a Crystal Sea... when the stars align and the darkness lifts". The Desert was once a sea before the Fall of Abaddon, but the battle between the god of water and secrets and his brethren transformed it into the familiar wasteland.
- Validity
- When Palawa Joko dammed the Elon river in order to starve the provinces into submission, parts of the Desert became verdant and green (although certainly not anything approaching a sea). And since Joko's rule is in fact described as a dark age for Elona, it is safe to say that no darkness has lifted.
- Fulfilled?
Fall of the Gods[edit]
- Culture
- Human(?).
- Details
- Mad Souls trapped within the Realm of Torment refer to a "cycle" restarting in relation to the Old Gods. They state that the new god (Kormir) will destroy the others and bring about the end of the world.
- Validity
- Doubtful. The Mad Souls' other ramblings are often incoherent and similarly pessimistic.
|
Furthermore, Kormir refused to involve herself in the events leading to the death of Balthazar in 1330AE.
|
- Fulfilled?
|
While the Human Gods remain alive and well (with one exception), the Mad Souls' prediction bears many parallels to the rise of the Prismatic Dragon Aurene and the death of the former six Elder Dragons, ending the previous dragon cycle and ushering in a new age.

Riding the Wind[edit]
- Culture
- Tengu.
- Details
- One day, the tengu will be free, and their lands will be revealed by a heavenly star and rise. Only then will the tengu and humans live in peace.
- Validity
- The tengu do now, it seems, have a home, namely the Dominion of Winds, and live in relative peace with the humans (although not before facing the wrath of Emperor Usoku). It is unknown what the "heavenly star", or the apparent "rise" of their lands refers to.
- Fulfilled
- Apparently came to pass in 1219 AE, after the awakening of Zhaitan caused the Rising of Orr, which is known to the tengu as the Great Tsunami.
The Path to Revelations[edit]
- Culture
- Unknown
- Details
- An offering to those who seek, beyond the mists beyond the dreams, on distant shores of a land unwaking, answers there lie in waiting.
- Validity
- This prophecy was found ciphered in the the energy signatures of facets of the human gods that the asura Kerrsh was studying in 1078 AE. His notebook was found years later by the Priory.
- According to Jeff Grubb when asked about about this: "Dragons are power, and the facets reflect the nature of the power that the human gods have harnessed. Both the Asuran Central Transfer Chamber and the City of Arah were built on places of power, which turned out to be directly over Elder Dragons."
- "It is possible that the cryptic message refers to the Dragons – “a land unwaking” could be the risen kingdom of Orr, and answers to the origin of the dragons do lie there."[1]
- Fulfilled?
- It is difficult to say, as nobody has been able to make sense of it yet. It is possible that the cryptic message refers to the dragons—"a land unwaking" could be the risen kingdom of Orr, and answers to the origin of the dragons do lie there; if so then The Ruined City of Arah (explorable) could fulfil the prophecy.
Dwarven Revelations[edit]
- Culture
- Dwarven. Detailed in the Tome of the Rubicon, which is supposedly written by the Great Dwarf himself.
- Details
- Long ago, the Great Dwarf took from his greatest foe the one thing that gave him his power...he took from him his name, sealing it away until the time of their final battle. To ensure the name was unspeakable to all but the Great Dwarf, the name was sealed within the Rubicon. Few were left with the knowledge and power to open the Tome. If the true name of either is spoken aloud, it would mean the end of the world as we know it. The Destroyers will swarm up from the bowels of the earth and spread across the world, and the dwarves will be forever transformed by the final battle between the Great Dwarf and the Great Destroyer.
- Validity
- The Great Destroyer eventually awakened with no apparent mention of his name. But as predicted, the conflict between the Great Dwarf and his ancient enemy was resumed, and the dwarves were "forever transformed" by the final battle. It should be noted that the content of the Tome was changed over the years sometimes for political reasons.
- Fulfilled?
- Came to pass in 1078 AE.
Ghosts of Ascalon[edit]
- Culture
- Human.
- Details
- The Foefire ghosts will be put to rest when either Sohothin or Magdaer are returned to Ascalon City in the hands of the rightful King of Ascalon.
- Validity
- Very little to say either way.
- Fulfilled?
- Rytlock Brimstone attempted to put the ghosts of Ascalon to rest in 1327AE with the power of Sohothin and the crown of King Adelbern, but his attempt was unsuccessful.
Shadows in the water[edit]
- Culture
- Krait.
- Details
- The krait prophets will return and drown Tyria in one massive sea. They will bring with them an army of sacrificed slaves, great enough to eradicate all other species.
- Validity
- Hopefully not.
- Fulfilled?
Howl of the wolf[edit]
- Culture
- Norn.
- Details
- Predition of the death of Knut Whitebear. Found in an old fireside song. "...and the muttering voices will call for his blood."
- Validity
- Finn believes that the unusual effect produced when attempting to use "reverse geomantic divination" to test this prophecy shows that the prophecy defies every predictive model of the Eternal Alchemy.
- Fulfilled?
Tooth of Jormag[edit]
- Culture
- Norn.
- Details
- Anyone who can harm the Fang of the Serpent will go on to slay Jormag themself.
- Validity
- Confirmed by Wolf as true, though Zojja believes that physical attacks cannot have any effect on a magical being. She should know, as she would go on to design the cannons that kill Zhaitan.
- Fulfilled?
- The individual to damage the Fang of the Serpent went on to indirectly cause Jormag's death by becoming champion of Primordus.
Return to Elona[edit]
- Culture
- Human (presumed).
- Details
- First prophesied over three hundred years ago. An Elonian, long from home, living beneath steel, will rise and lead his people back to the Crystal Desert. This Elonian, called the Al'Seen, will make the Desert fruitful again.
- Validity
- The only information we have on this prophecy comes from Alain, a former Ebon Vanguard soldier who was missing for weeks after his unit was cut off behind enemy lines. He believes himself to be the Al'Seen.
- Fulfilled?
The sad tale of the Ravenous[edit]
- Culture
- Pirate.
- Details
- The only way to remove Zhaitan's corruption from an Orrian artifact given to Seraph Corporal Kellach by Alastia Crow, is to bathe in royal blood.
- Validity
- Fabricated as revenge for Kellach's murder of Crow's comrades, the crew of the Ravenous, and as revenge on the Throne of Kryta for failing to help her starving crew or save them when Dead Ships attacked them on the high sea.
- Fulfilled?
- Never came to pass.
Secrets in the earth[edit]
- Culture
- Sylvari.
- Details
- A prophetess in Rata Sum once foretold that the return of the legendary greatsword Caladbolg would be the downfall of the Elder Dragons.
- Validity
- Caladbolg was used in the defeat of the Elder Dragon Mordremoth and the defeat of Mazdak the Accursed (and according to the prophecy, is the only thing that could defeat him), and did heavy damage against the Sovereign Eye of Zhaitan.
- Fulfilled?
- The sword, made from the bark of the Pale Tree and once given to Riannoc, was recovered from the cowardly human Waine in 1325 AE. By 1335AE, all six Elder Dragons were slain.
The Mystic Telescope[edit]
- Culture
- Norn.
- Details
- In the Age of Giants, the jotun knew when the Elder Dragons would next awaken. Their knowledge was found by the human gods and brought to Arah. According to jotun stargazers, the appearance of the Elder Dragons is reflected by the stars themselves. When they awaken, so do new stars.
- Validity
- Confirmed by Durmand Priory scholar Varra Skylark, who investigated the ruins of Arah after the defeat of Zhaitan. Of note is the fact that something similar was once said by Bahltek, about the human gods.
- Fulfilled?
- Began in 1078 AE, was delayed for a generation by the Transformation of the Dwarves, and continues to this day.
