The Tome of the Rubicon is a derivative work of a much older text of the same name. The original text was purportedly written by the Great Dwarf himself around the time the Elder Dragons last awakened, and contained the true name of both the Great Dwarf and the Great Destroyer, the antithesis of the Great Dwarf and Primordus's greatest champion. It was said that should either name be read aloud, the dwarven race would come to an end. In 1072 AE, the Stone Summit attempted to do just that, but were stopped and the Tome was buried beneath Sorrow's Furnace. Within the next few years, it was excavated by the dwarven High Priest Alkar, who translated and wrote a sanitized version.
Scholar Trueclaw, who is dedicated to the textual criticism of the Tome of the Rubicon, believes that the content of the Tome has changed over time as the item degraded and it became necessary to make copies. She also believes that much of it had been changed through the years for political reasons.

- It is possible that the tome uncovered during Forging the Pact is an iteration of the Tome of the Rubicon.
- Although the icon for this item is unique, the front cover of this item is emblazoned with the Forgotten Seal like most book backpieces. This is because the Tome of the Rubicon shares a model with the Tome of Forgotten Lore, rather than it having anything to do with the Forgotten.
