Irja
Irja is a friendly Kryptis who briefly accompanies the Wayfinder and Peitha in Inner Nayos. She is both fascinated and intimidated by the Tyrians who have entered Nayos.
Biography[edit]
Irja was born as a Kryptis in Nayos but chose not to align with Midnight King Eparch's loyalists due to their reign of terror and harsh treatment of fellow Kryptis. Fearing for her life, she stayed on the outskirts of Inner Nayos and tried to avoid the loyalists in order to not be consumed.
In 1336 AE, Irja heard rumors of the Kryptis Lord Peitha rallying her felow Kryptis to rebel against Eparch's rule but did not know how trustworthy such rumors were. She was eventually approached by the Wayfinder who had been directed to her location by Ramses, Peitha's lieutenant. Initially worried about the Wayfinder's intentions, Irja realized that the Wayfinder could not have been one of Eparch's allies as they were too "ripe." She was surprised that not only was the Wayfinder not scared of her but was offering her a sanctuary in a nearby camp which was acting as the staging ground of Peitha's and the Astral Ward's joint rebellion.
Upon entering the camp, however, Irja was overwhelmed and intimidated by the presence of all the non-Kryptis Tyrians there despite Ramses comforting her that they were all fighting for the same cause. Irja admitted to the Wayfinder that she had dreamed of Tyria before Eparch had taken the Kryptis's dreams away, and she still remembered the colors, smells and water from those dreams. Ramses suggested that Irja stay and listen to the Tyrians' stories.
However, as the Wayfinder and Ramses attended a strategy meeting with Peitha and the Astral Ward commander Arina, Irja used the distraction to wander off camp to process the information she had received. While in the wilderness, she was captured and brought to Heitor, Peitha's cousin who was commanding the loyalist forces in the area to crush the fledgling rebellion. Wanting to make an example of Irja to the rebels and to sate her own bloodlust after her mate Cerus's death at the hands of Peitha and the Wayfinder, Heitor tortured Irja while waiting for Peitha to breach her defenses so the cousins could have a long overdue conversation. Once the Wayfinder, Peitha, Ramses, and Arina reached Heitor, the Kryptis general demonstrated her brutality by consuming Irja's essence in front of them and declaring her loyalty to Eparch.
Irja's death motivated the group to fight hard and ultimately defeat Heitor. Her fate cleared any lingering doubts the Wayfinder might have had about Peitha's cause and the necessity to topple Eparch's cruel regime that made Kryptis turn on each other out of fear of the Midnight King.
