I feel that he deserves something more than a link to a blog that might be removed at any moment. (I actually didn't notice that the page had been created before — did the previous version include his nickname? Or was I just unobservant?)

In part, I was inspired to create an article, because of seeing what happened to the memory of Lord Brinne. Brinne was a huge, huge fan of RPG games in the pre-MMO universe and at least three popular franchises have tributes to him (Might & Magic, Ultima, and Elder Scrolls). Alas, until recently, the top 10 google searches on his name linked to game walkthroughs with mistaken details or otherwise incorrect information, such as his being an employee of one of the development teams (not true). I don't mind linking to wikipedia for trivia on most "easter egg" references, since the salient info is there to stay, but I feel we owe it to the 15-minutes-of-fame and one-hit-wonder sources of inspiration to leave a lasting description of their influence. Even Kelly Wells probably deserves more than a footnote in Ameranth's article, but since her avatar became an NPC with dialogue, at least she has an article. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 17:02, 21 January 2013 (UTC)

I meant, usually when one tries to create a deleted page (on a wiki), there's a note that says, "hey, your pal Ish deleted an article with that name — you sure you want to start another? Thanks! I think I tried every map-related API except that one. Fortunately, it doesn't come up that often and... I had a good idea of where the numbering would start. inventory window bug vs update notes

Hi TEF, you reverted my edit. Before It made my edit I actually tested this in game and your claim that it is now always happening and affecting everyone is clearly wrong cause it isn't happening to me and I opened my inventory many times since the update, both inside and outside. There is a different bug, but it is something I'm unaffected by as well. I think the bugsection in update note should be reserved for major bugs that effects everyone. Per [2]: Except that we haven't concluded how to document it. Yes, the zone's title changed in the loading screen, however it is still Lion's Arch and all the PoI/Areas are the same regardless. See discussion here. I, personally, think it'd be confusing if we make a Lion's Arch (Under Attack!) article, simply because it seems pretty clear the old LA will not be returning (not how it was at least), and it'll lead to the whole issue of one-area/PoI for both versions of LA or people searching for, say, Fort Marriner and wanting the current version which would (following the LA article set up) be at Fort Marriner (Under Attack!). My main goal was to ensure that the wiki wasn't ignoring the massive battle taking place that changed everything about that city. Regardless of how we document it, there has to be something prominent on that page. And it should have been done on release day.

In any case, I don't see why we wouldn't create a separate article for temporary changes to the game: the zone in which we battle Scarlet's Force has a different name. We know that in 2 (or 4 weeks), the battle won't be there any more and whatever exists in LA (UA!) will change again. Once we see what the next release (or two) brings, we might productively discuss whether we want three articles ( LA (Season 1), LA (UA!), and LA) or two (LA and LA (Escape from LA)) or whatever. If we document the temporary content in a separate article, it will be easy to evolve into two or three articles later. If we just update the existing LA article, it will be a complete pain to try to evolve to the new in-game reality.

There's plenty of time to worry about what to do with Fort Marriner and similar articles. The simplest way is just to add a similar top-note, e.g. "FYI the content mentioned here is temporarily unavailable, see the LA (UA!) article for details." And again, this works because what's going on now won't be in the game in 2 weeks (or perhaps 4, depending on what ANet means by the end of Season 1). For that reason, I don't see any value in creating more than one Under Attack article.

Finally, the proper place to discuss this is either on the talk page for the release or the talk page for Lion's Arch's own article. It doesn't help if the discussion is accidentally hidden on a project page (that only interests a subset of contributors) or on one person's talk page (especially when that individual probably isn't followed by the vast majority of contributors). – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 18:55, 20 February 2014 (UTC)

It's so good to see that your allegiances have transferred to GW2. You were always a voice of such sense and sensibility in GW1. Your measured response above to your "pal Ishmael" is yet another example of your tact and ability to take into account the sensitivities of others -- a rare quality on the wiki. As much as I tried to emulate you, I never approached that level of diplomacy, managing only to delete a few offending phrases before hitting the "Save" button. You always seemed to remember so well that the goal is to get something changed, not to engage in one-upsmanship or display your prowess at snide replies. An example to all.
