Talk:Knowledge is Power
More like Blood is Power! Anyone, anyone? 65.96.252.199 02:12, 1 March 2014 (UTC)
Could it be that it's name stems from the Asura skill Air of Superiority in which you shout "Knowledge is Power!"? :) Hope so. --Epilum (talk) 15:14, 30 August 2015 (UTC)
Unusual capitalization of "Knowledge is Power"[edit]
You reverted my change to Knowledge is Power that noted the unusual capitalization of "is" in the title, stating that it was Title Case. However, "is" should always be capitalized in title case; it is a verb. Prepositions, conjunctions, and articles are what are not capitalized in title case, unless they are long or at the beginning or end of the title. Blood Is Power is doing it right, but Justice is Blind and Forearmed Is Forewarned are incorrect. In this respect, the capitalization is not unusual, but it is simply in error. I believe that the note is valid. - Dashface 13:51, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
- Depends whose rules or "manual of style" you're using. Wikipedia says "Title Case (also known as headline style): all words are capitalised except for certain subsets defined by rules that are not universally standardised. The standardisation is only at the level of house styles and individual style manuals." Personally, I use the rule "whatever looks right," and to me, a capitalised, two-letter word just doesn't look right. — snograt 14:07, 25 May 2014 (UTC)

- Grammar isn't immutable or as standard as most of us tend to believe. As Snog suggests, the appropriate form of punctuation, capitalization, or spelling varies from publication to publication. The Chicago Manual of Style does not always match that of the New York Times, the AP, Encyclopedia Britanica, Webster's, or Wikipedia. In fact, this wiki's style guide requires that all article titles should be sentence case (rather than first-cap or title case), e.g. Personal story instead of Condition Removal as was recommended for the GW1 wiki.
- I reverted the change because of two reasons: first, lots of similar items follow the same convention of Knowledge is Power, so it's consistent within the game regardless of anyone's preferences; that makes it neither unusual nor anomalous. Second, also as Snog suggests, there are plenty of instances in which "is" might not be capitalized: titles of books, records, or songs, articles, and so on. There isn't an exact correct or incorrect way to do it; it's more a matter of taste, custom, or context.
- So perhaps I shouldn't have referred to it as being "standard title case," since, strictly speaking, "title case" can vary. Instead, I suggest we think of it as "standard ANet title case." Personally, I wouldn't support adding a note to each article for an item using this convention. If the consensus insists, I would ask that the note be limited to a neutral statement in the trivia section, along the lines of "Some style guides would recommend this item be capitalized as Knowledge Is Power." — this allows the community to disagree vehemently about "proper" grammar, while accepting that this is how ANet has decided to capitalize.– Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 08:30, 26 May 2014 (UTC)
