Hello
Hey Gaile! Welcome to GW2W. I'd put a generic speach but I want FIRST POST! RT | Talk - A joyous wintersday to all 22:19, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
- Hey, Gaile. Is A.net going to maybe release some more info sometime so we have some actual content? =] --Edru viransu 22:21, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
- We wanted to get the GW2 Wiki up and running to allow the community to start on making it the source for all things Guild Wars 2. And what better time than when folks may have a bit more time -- with winter breaks and so forth. For the short term, we do not have plans to post additional information directly from ArenaNet. That will happen, of course, but all in good time. :)
- Now, you guys are more than welcome to create pages and sections, and there is quite an abundant amount of information "out there" in the huge PC Gamer announcement, in several excellent European publications, and through many on-line interviews that took place mostly in the Spring of this year. I say "Go for it!" :) -- Gaile 23:13, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

Your image should redirect to your userpage or talk page. I would do it for you, but I don't know which one you want it going to.-- (Talk) (Contr.) 23:51, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
- It appears to direct to my user page here on the GW2W. Is that not correct? -- Gaile 23:56, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
- The image in your sig (the paw) doesn't redirect anywhere. -- (Talk) (Contr.) 23:59, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
- Just a quick question, do we have a policy on that? ;) Nah, it's convenient for sure, but it's not a policy on this wiki. :) - anja 00:06, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
- Don't have much of that good. Backsword 00:08, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
- I am not quite sure how to make that redirect, I'm sorry. If someone is willing to volunteer to do so, I would be very grateful. Thanks. -- Gaile 19:24, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
- Well, ok. Backsword 19:33, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
- There seems to be a bug when setting up the redirect. It may have something to do with the issue noted on User talk:Emily Diehl, but I'm not sure. Backsword has tried many things, but neither seem to be working. -- br12 • (talk) • 19:35, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

- *sniff* Well at least I have good and helpful friends, even if the technology gods are cursing me today. ;) -- Gaile 19:49, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

- Hmmm... it might at that! We should do some theorizing on the gods for Guild Wars 2. Time has passed in Tyria, there may be a new set of deities! I vote for "God of Lost Socks" personally. ...What? You know there must be an altar somewhere, whereon lie all the millions of mismatched socks that have been lost since the dawn of time. Well the dawn of sock time, anyway. ;) -- Gaile 20:22, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
- Gaile, you're one funny ranger you are ^^ br12 • (talk) • 20:27, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
- As far as the "God of Lost Socks" goes, I'm pretty sure that Invisible Pink Unicorn fits the bill (read the Wikipedia article on the IPU to see why). And, since the IPU is invisible, you can always say she's there and we just can't see her ;). That might be a funny easter egg actually, an alter dedicated to her. *Defiant Elements* +talk 19:10, 25 December 2007 (UTC)

- The FSM is all well and good, but what's the association with lost socks. Besides, the IPU, the FSM, and Queen Maeve the House Cat are prophets (or at best demi-gods) in comparison to Google. *Defiant Elements* +talk 19:41, 25 December 2007 (UTC)

Are we going to have spin offs of this talk, as we had on your GWW page? RT | Talk - A joyous wintersday to all 19:51, 25 December 2007 (UTC)
- Ummm... what sort of spinoffs are you thinking about? I'm more than willing to host 'em, if you guys want 'em. Errr... well, you probably noticed that from my shamelessly enormous list of GWW spinoffs, eh? *blush* :) -- Gaile 06:27, 26 December 2007 (UTC)

I think that won't be necessary for a while, but I might preemptively create those pages because I really love having tidy archives. :) -- Gaile 03:28, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

GW2
hi, galie, im just wondering when will you tell us more about gw2. or atleast give us like a teaser screen shot that we can stare at for hours trying to figure out the screen shot. Thx
- Sad but true. People will stare for hours at a couple thousand pixels. There hasn't been new info for a few months, really, since the PCGamer article. I would like to see more, but I understand if it's not numero uno on ANet's task list. Calor (t) 02:59, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
- Well, I think in all honesty it is going to be a few months before we're actively talking about Guild Wars 2. Now, I completely understand that it's like a desert of info right now -- just the one article last year and a few interviews. But I guess the watchword is: All in good time. When we start talking, we have a lot of great things to share, and I'm as eager as you are to start the discussion! :) -- Gaile 05:25, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
- Pfff, that's 4 watchwords ^^ Lord of all tyria 09:52, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
- Just release a random, blurry image of something entirely unrelated, and it'll keep people occupied until you're ready to actually release GW2 info. :P Lord Belar 18:06, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
- Sounds like an idea :/ Cress Arvein 18:57, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
- Not a bad one either, considering we know ANet has loads of bizarre images. Take the Under Construction Guy, or the Xbox X in the Dat. Calor (t) 19:00, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
- Gaile, you might want to consider a community update. I know it's redundant to have a Dev Update saying we aren't saying anything yet, but it might be helpful... /shrug --151.207.242.4 18:41, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
- Agree! just some random picture, plz!
- So much insecurity in the GW community and many players allready "anticipating" with "Uneducated guesses". More and more longtime players selling Guildshalls & destroying accounts. Not patient enough to wait out the news about their gw games future they leave GW1 for other games like Witcher etc etc. ---- Silverleaf 11:37, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
- Silverleaf, that's to be expected. Anet can't expect their consumers to wait around, it's been almost 1 year since Guild Wars 2 was announced (an article I saw says US, March 27, 2007 ) and we know very little, and their bridging connection between the two games, The Hall of Monuments, is leaving a bit of a sore spot with the community. If longtime players are leaving Guild Wars you can't blame them and you can't really comment on the 'patience' either, its unrealistic to expect the community to just sit around with Anet and Guild Wars until Anet releases something. Anet is in the entertain business, and if people are leaving, Anet isn't entertaining them anymore and they're obviously going to somewhere that is. 203.173.226.225 05:52, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
- By the same token, the players who are patient enough for GW2 will be rewarded for their loyalty... with GW2. 06:19, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
- Dude, if you think thats 'the same token' thats just wrong. Rewarded for their loyalty would be throwing the community a bone or two. What you describe is not a reward, its a cost. 203.173.226.225 10:23, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

Gaile, Would we see anything more on Guild Wars 2 BY E3 2008? Like a Teaser Trailer, Cinimatic or even a small hint of new info by then? --72.178.138.105 14:18, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
- Are you people really that impatient? It's not like ArenaNet is the only company that makes people a few months (pff many games have made people wait years!) for information... People lose sight that Guild Wars is a Product/Service and the developers aren't there to cater to your every whim. They aren't your friends, (inherently, at least) and it's not ArenaNet's job to make sure you have information exactly when you want it. Now, yes, the HoM does leave something to be desired but really that has almost nothing to do with players waiting for Guild Wars 2. Sorry if you take offense or if I'm completely missing your point, user posting from 203.173.226.225, but i'm just annoyed that some people think Anet should hold their hand and do everything they tell them. Still, it would be nice (but NOT necessary) for a little bit of information :P --Alreajk 00:51, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
Tidbit: Gears of War released a pseudo-preview. It was more like an animation than a trailer. A.net should do something similar. People will bitch but they'll still be talking, eh?- Vanguard 17:09, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
Beta Test for Guild Wars 2
Especially because you're on the Guild Wars 2 Wiki, I have a feeling that you'd like to know about the Guild Wars 2 Beta. Unfortunately, there is no information about a Guild Wars Beta Test at this time. We truly do not have a a start date, the type(s) of tests that will be conducted, the proposed numbers of testers we will invite, tester qualifications, or anything else. We are sorry, because we know you're excited, and so are we! However, it seems doubtful that we will have info for a few months.
When ArenaNet has Beta Test plans prepared, we will make them known via many means, including the Guild Wars Wiki and the Guild Wars 2 Wiki. So on the subject of the beta test, please do not post on the wikis, email, make a forum thread, submit a support ticket, send a PM, ping with an in-game whisper, hire a carrier pigeon, send a smoke signal... ;) Thank you so much for your understanding, and we will provide the information on this when we are able to do so. -- Gaile 00:12, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
Your edit on March 11th, 2008
May I point out to you that the second sentence of the second paragraph of this edit is rather strange. It almost looks as if you don't want us to do anything on this wiki and in fact anywhere... I also removed the part where you almost tried to create a table and then all of a sudden didn't, hope you don't mind.
Disclaimer: *crosses fingers behind back* this edit in no way wants to portray this editor to be an excellent candidate for GW2 Beta testing. *uncrosses fingers* -- (CoRrRan / talk) 19:29, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
- She's saying that you shouldn't post asking about the beta because any news will be posted on GWW, not that you shouldn't post information about the beta. And as for getting into the beta, the closed beta is probably going to be limited to the highest tier of GW players - famous guilds and players, just to make sure the skills are balanced acceptably. You are guaranteed a chance to play the open beta as long as you sign up. --71.229.204.25 19:40, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
- Yea, the second paragraph is a bit weird "Please do not post on GW2W".. Post could simply be replaced with "ask", and it would not be as off-putting ;) - anja 22:09, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
- all she's saying is not to bother with questions about the beta, very easy with a large note on the top of the page --Cursed Angel 22:13, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
- True, but the undertone conveys a message of "Don't ask us, Don't post on the wiki, don't even bother thinking about GW2 for a few months". Calor 00:24, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
- I know what she is trying to say, but it is written in a slightly strange manner. All I tried to do was notify Gaile of this small text glitch and in NO way was trying to say something about GW2 beta stuff... *notices fingers are crossed again and uncrosses them* "No idea how that happens, honestly!" -- (CoRrRan / talk) 00:31, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
- True, but the undertone conveys a message of "Don't ask us, Don't post on the wiki, don't even bother thinking about GW2 for a few months". Calor 00:24, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, correct, I was speaking about the topic of the Guild Wars 2 beta in those sentences. I apologize for any error in communication that I may have made, or for a lack of clarity in my words. I have added a introductory phrase to the text in question, to make it clear that on the subject of the beta test there is no need to ask questions at this time. Obviously, we would not host a wiki and then ask people not to post. :) Thanks. -- Gaile 19:02, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Gah!
Is it just me, or are you guys changing the pages at guildwars2.com. I swear a few things are different. Am I wrong, going insane, or right!?! Like they used to call Shouts 'spells' and now they are called skills. *sigh*--Corsair@Yarrr 03:05, 19 June 2010 (UTC)
- Why, I don't know! I didn't notice that change, but our websites are always under review for possible updates and improvements, so I would call that sort of change "likely" -- if the game was modified -- rather than call you insane. :) -- Gaile 17:22, 13 September 2011 (UTC)
Hey Gaile
I'm making my own site for Guild Wars 2 for fun, and I've started to get the rough outlines of a database together to hold the items, quests, NPCs in a different format to that of a Wiki. However, i need an example item to be able to do it properly, by any chance can you preview us what the stats will be like on a weapon? Thankyou in advanced :) 87.244.66.108 16:49, 14 August 2010 (UTC)
- Hey there. It just occurred to me that there were probably a ton of images of just the kind you need "out there" and in reach of gamers everywhere, after folks took and posted photos from Gamescom and PAX. I recommend that you check around the Internetz for a shot or two. That way I don't risk posting a shot that reveals the stats on some critical item, like the Godly Plate of the Cetacea. ;) -- Gaile 17:17, 13 September 2011 (UTC)

Time Capsule
Would it be okay to ask when beta and the game are coming by time capsule? (as in getting a response in like 10 years)? Is it safe to assume we won't have to wait a decade? ~~ Kiomadoushi 14:02, 20 July 2011 (UTC)
- Yeah, just send it to my email address, I won't read it until release, promiz! --zeeZ 14:19, 20 July 2011 (UTC)
- Okay! I'll also send a check for $250! You seem like a legitimate vendor! ~~ Kiomadoushi 14:24, 20 July 2011 (UTC)
- I am totally in too, because this guy really seems to know what he's talkin' about!
- Oh wait... --Gaile 20:56, 20 July 2011 (UTC)
- You're going to pay $250 to get ZeeZ to hold a time capsule for us requesting in 10 years when GW2 beta/release is? Wow, they don't tell you anything in there themselves, do they? I'm sure as part of Anet, you have to have some general idea of when the game is expected to be ready by at the current pace (like "before new years, hopefully"). But if you're requesting time capsule too, well... xD ~~ Kiomadoushi 23:55, 20 July 2011 (UTC)
- Well, if a certain mind bending profession was revealed, I could have tricked Gaile into telling us the release date. Alas. --Xu Davella 00:46, 21 July 2011 (UTC)

- If we will release the game "when it's ready" or "when it's done" -- and we will -- then I highly doubt you will still be asking this question in 10 years. However, that is not to be construed as a public announcement from me or from ArenaNet that Guild Wars 2 will be released sometime this decade. I don't make public announcements of that nature. :) -- Gaile 17:19, 13 September 2011 (UTC)

Thank You!
Way back in 2008, after getting to Augury Rock with just starter armor & gear, I became very frustrated with Guild Wars. (I had been told it played exactly like NeverWinter Nights 2, and had been playing it that way.) After expressing my frustration, you took the time, when no one else would, to explain the game, and getting me going.
For that, I am eternally greatful.
Thank You, Gaile!--Enda - talk 23:31, 13 September 2011 (UTC)

The Gods of Guild Wars 2
Frog has not been forgotten ;)
I know I should place nice, realize I'll never, ever, play anything other than Necro, and let Mesmer fans have their fun but... well, I'm a Necro. We're not the nicest of people in society. :P
Also, it's been ages 'n' stuff. You sticking with Ranger or going in an all new direction this time 'round? Here's a question about Guild Wars 2 you may never have been asked before; does it realistically offer enough storage options to facilitate your new bow collection? [Unless you're playing as a different profession... in which case I desperately hope the answer would be 'yes' :P]
Oh, and since I seem to have forgotten; hi! A F K When Needed 22:13, 14 September 2011 (UTC)
- I'm thinking Ranger, yeah. First, it's my nature. Secondly, it's my "family" history in GW, so why not? :) As for storage, I haven't had problems accommodating my stuff in the current builds, and I know the designers are keenly aware that storage is always a significant concern with players, so I'm sure they'll have good solutions for that. But you know, I was thinking about the concept of limitless storage some time ago, and I think there is some gameplay value in having to make decisions about what to keep and what to trashbin, what to sell, and what to give to others. So I don't think it would make sense to have 10 gazillion storage slots. :) -- Gaile 15:52, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
- Well I'd certainly agree that there's a happy medium.
- There'll always be "worthless" items that mean something to the player; and I think it adds a lot to the experience when you can comfortably hold onto them. As long as the player isn't overly sentimental and tries to hold onto every piece of armor and weapon that they've ever used. :P That's actually one of the things I'm looking forward to exploring in GW2. Those fun novelty items or other stuff I randomly grow attached to. My Necro always had a set of (standard, not 15k) Sunspear armor that he didn't generally use outside of towns, but kept 'cause I always loved that armor design. A F K When Needed 22:49, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
- I hear you about armour. My gives wear Studded Leather from Granite Citadel. A lot of sets are rarer, and flashier, and more prestigious, but I love the way the SL takes my lavender (and pink in October) dyes, and I adore the way it looks. It's just the most perfect set for me. I have full accounts stuffed with things to which I'm sentimentally attached. I keep a gift from a friend forever. Even if I eventually get the "perfect" bow, I keep the others, as well. I have an account or two that are filled with miniatures, because danged if I can bear the thought of binning even one Jungle Troll. (I think I have about 1,609 of those guys, but I love 'em all.) :) -- Gaile 23:32, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
- That sounds a lot more loyal than what I am. :P I just like taking time off and looking however I want to. I'll miss my Titles, my characters... but if I could bring just one thing to GW2, it'd have to be that E Phantasmal Tonic. /pats tonic lovingly
- Has it been decided if minipets are still items, or spells / summons / whatever which your character can learn to save inventory space? :P Sorry. Still havn't played one of the demos, and it's starting to take its toll on me. A F K When Needed 23:46, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
- Check out the reviews and video footage of the demos. I would rather not answer questions like this, because I may not be up-to-date on what the current decision is, or I may speak about some super-secret goodie that hasn't been announced yet (or may change with further development). So, for me, mum's the word. :D -- Gaile 22:59, 30 September 2011 (UTC)

- now that you mention it, I have a good question for ya! How did you feel when the developers considered not bringing the ranger back to guild wars 2? Back when they were considering releasing it as a druid and warden professions respectively? --Xu Davella 12:39, 16 November 2011 (UTC)

Defeated
Hey Gaile, your the only people person I know I can ask questions about gw and gw2 to so I was wondering, when you are defeated and must pay cash to travel to a waypoint, where do you go if you can't pay the fee? I thinks that's all for now. PS: We NEED GW2, I'm begging Arena Net, no longer than April 2012. Thank you :) User:Austin1
- See Defeated article, last sentence of first paragraph. Mediggo 10:22, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
- There ya go. Those clever designer types have figured out a way to make it work for everyone. :)
- As to your proposed or "need by" date, I can pass that along, but it'll just be one voice amongst millions. All of us on the team know folks are eager to get their mitts on the game just as we're eager for you to be able to play it. But all good things come to those who wait, and the progress is just wonderful so it'll be worth the wait! -- Gaile 15:54, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
- I think GW2 will be released April 28...when GW1 was released :) be cool xD --Angelkiss 16:23, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
- I personally love the notion of that from a traditionalist perspective. However, dates are just a marker on a calendar and the only thing that will drive release is, "When it's ready." We shall see. We shall see. :) -- Gaile 17:40, 29 September 2011 (UTC)

Ascalon
I just wondered if you could tell us anything about how that situation can or will be resolved. What will the Charr give humanity that will be of equal value to the Claw that Dougal and co. got for them? If peace is desired, concessions must be made by both sides, not just one. Will the siege on Ebonhawke be halted? Is it possible for humanity to get back more of Ascalon than just Ebonhawke? And why has Anet been notably silent on this topic, when it involves the story that began GW in the first place? Will GW2 even address it at all? 72.44.1.105 16:26, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
- I'm pretty sure neither writes the plot nor manages the community. She might have some insight, but I can't imagine her informing us of anything in regards to the GW2 storyline. --Riddle 16:34, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
- @72 -- I think you have some excellent questions there, and they're some of the ones I've asked myself as I read the GW2 stories on our website, the Guild Wars novels, and so forth. I'm personally thinking that the whole human quandary is going to need to be addressed pretty quickly, because we can't have them scrabbling to hold onto a tiny speck of the map, right? On the other hand, there's an excitement in that facet of the story. Makes me think of the beginning of (classic) Battlestar Galactica, with the whole "rag-tag crew of adventurers" mentality. Now, I think if the Charr were smart, and we know they are, then... But nah, I'm not going there. The best thing I can say is "Stay tuned for more!" ;) -- Gaile 17:14, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
