“Yeah ? You and what army ? I've got all the spirits of the Mist behind me !
The Guide is a scholar profession relying on both weapons and magic to fight. Initially formed to guide the spirits of the dead to the Mists, the Guides slowly began to use their knowledge to gain power when the threat of the Elder Dragons became apparent. These mystical warriors use the ambient mystical energy by channeling it through their rings, and call upon the spirits that navigate between this world and the Mists.
Abilities[edit]
The guide's unique ability resides in the use of their ring, which every guide crafts themselves during their apprenticeship. The ring is symbolized by a gauge of Balance atop the weapon skills, and quickly resets to a neutral state when outside of battle. When the guide uses a weapon skill, depending on its type (physical or magical), the balance moves accordingly towards the physical of magical state. Some other skill may also influence the state of the balance.
The guide also possesses a skill called Spirit Release, located next to the Balance gauge, which allows them to release the spirits trapped in their rings and use them to increase their strength. Depending on the current state of the Balance gauge, and on the weapon in the guide's main hand, this gives the Guide a new set of weapon skills. Weapon sets cannot be swapped during Spirit Release. The duration of Spirit release is affected by character level, traits, and the exact position of the Balance.
Another unique ability of the guide is that he bases only two weapon skills off his main-hand weapon, and three off his off-hand weapon — allowing the player to chose their main-hand weapon solely for their preferences regarding the Spirit Release ability, and chose their role mostly with their off-hand weapon.
Skills[edit]
Special skill types[edit]
- Binding Rituals — a spells that has an immediate effect, and leaves behind a spirit maintaining a combo field.
- Chains — a set of three skills that share a single skill slot. Chains go off in sequence if you are hitting your target.
- Summons — instantaneous spells calling for the spirits.
- Weapon spells — these skills summon environmental weapons. When picked up, instead of replacing the holder's weapon skills, they modify them by giving them a particular bonus.
Traits[edit]
The guide has five general trait line: Ethereal Weaponry, Spirituality and Ring Crafting.
See list of guide traits.
Equipment[edit]
Armor[edit]
The guide is a scholar profession and thus wears light armor.
Weapons[edit]
The guide focuses more on the use of his offhand weapons, channeling the energy of his ring into them. Their main-hand weapon only provides two skills, their off-hand three — but the main-hand weapon determines the skill sets offered by the Spirit Release ability.
- One-handed
- Two-handed
- Aquatic
The guide has access to 14 weapon sets and two weapon sets underwater. The guide can equip and alternate between two weapon sets, but doing so in combat induces a recharge to prevent continuous switching between weapons.
Crafting[edit]
The following crafting disciplines can create items that are useful to the guardian:
- Weaponsmith — Axes, daggers, maces, shields, spears, swords.
- Huntsman — Torches, warhorns.
- Artificer — Foci, scepters, tridents.
