Home Instance[edit]

Again I contend that until we play the game and are given the opportunity to chose the lineage of our human character, all we can confirm is that the human character in the GAMESCON demo had that as their home instance. Lore-wise it makes no sense for all humans of every ancestry to start in Salma district...only a Krytan character should start there. An Ascalonian character for instance should start in Rin district. (Usaf1a8xx 04:02, 4 September 2010 (UTC))

Mechanically, though, it would be weird if players were fragmented depending on where they were. For example, all Ascalons disappear into Rurikton into their own instanced area, but all non-Ascalons see it as a persistent area. Funky mechanics. I haven't seen the videos, but I think "home instance" doesn't mean "birth-place." I think "home instance" means an area that gets defined by your choices and tastes (i.e. a home.) --Riddle 04:26, 4 September 2010 (UTC)

Spoiler warning?[edit]

Some of the info included about the personal story is very spoiler-ish. Not everybody wants to accidentally stumble over that. Ruse talk (talk) 07:03, 28 October 2010 (UTC)

Perhaps... but shouldn't we have specifics, if we're going to have anything at all? I mean, we should put the noble's name, or the street rat friend's name, so long as we're going to include Petra by name. --AmannelleUser Amannelle Me.jpg 17:07, 28 October 2010 (UTC)
Quinn and Lord Farren? (not sure if I spelt those two correctly and before you comment on it, I'm Canadian and we use a combination of US and UK writing so "spelt" is correct for us :P) 68.144.97.124 17:50, 28 October 2010 (UTC)
Perhaps keep the NPCs and take out the information pertaining to the personal story. That should keep it from being spoilerific while still staying documented. We have a page for On The Mend, don't we? If so we can link it easily enough. Everything stays documented, and only those who want the info can check On The Mend.--Corsair@Yarrr 18:52, 28 October 2010 (UTC)
Whynot just use the {{spoilers}} template? Isn't that what it was created for?
Like that. Venom20 User Venom20-icon-0602-sm-black.png 19:52, 28 October 2010 (UTC)
They're not really spoilers, in my opinion. (They definitely don't require being hidden from the page.) However, the bullet points would be more relevant on each human-background article (i.e. common, street rat, noble) instead of here. As an aside, they should also be written in the third person, not second. pling User Pling sig.png 19:57, 28 October 2010 (UTC)
I still say they're spoilers. It's telling parts of the plot of your personal storyline in a place you a) would not expect to find it and b) ruins some of the surprise. As I said I started to read part of it and was like "crap!" So I'm sure I'm not the only one. I'd be fine with the NPCs being linked with no reference to how they fit into the plot. EDIT: The whole point of a spoiler is revealing part of a plot. Which is exactly what this does, yes? I don't know how you could NOT consider it a spoiler. -boggle- Ruse talk (talk) 21:45, 28 October 2010 (UTC)
Maybe it would be more accurate to say I consider everything on this wiki spoilerific, but that this page is no more so than any other - if you're reading about Guild Wars 2, you're very likely (i.e. certain) to find out details of some future event. pling User Pling sig.png 22:17, 28 October 2010 (UTC)
True, but I don't see any reason we can't minimize accidental discovery as much as possible. There's a big difference to me between finding this info on a page about personal stories -- a warning might still be nice, but I'd kind of expect a breakdown there. Not so expected when reading about a city district. :) EDIT: I would move the info but I still haven't read all the info and don't plan to. Ruse talk (talk) 22:25, 28 October 2010 (UTC)
I'm not sure if you knew, but the events on this page are about 8 minutes into the game. I wouldn't consider it a spoiler. EiveTalk 00:22, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
Like Eive said, spoilers are found right off the bat. If we're going to be like a normal wiki, then we'll have spoilers everywhere. I can't tell you how many times I've gone to a wiki to look for something, and notice things like "This is also used by [insert spoiler character here]" or "found in [insert secret place here] when [insert spoiler event here] occurs". Am I shocked when I see it? Not at all-- that's what wikis are for; learning information about the game. NORMAL wikis are filled with spoilers, and I guess they can do it because as a general rule of thumb you list characters, events, etc without giving too MUCH detail (such as saying "when Prince Rurik dies" instead of saying "When Prince Rurik dies by getting crushed by rocks and then slaughtered by enemies who say [insert quote here]"). :) --AmannelleUser Amannelle Me.jpg 00:28, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
By that logic, there's no point for a spoiler warning at all. While this IS a different wiki, by your logic there's no point to keep refering to a "spoiler character" in the last Prophecies mission. We should just slap people in the face with that info. @Eive: No, I don't know when those events happen as I've obviously been attempting to avoid this kind of info. I still really, really think that info does not belong here all spelled out like this. A page about personal stories or whatever, sure (with a warning at the top of the section). Not here. Ruse talk (talk) 00:37, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
To be frank, this is a wiki. Wikis contain information, and this is information. The information on this page reflects the title of this page. And as others have said, if you don't want spoilers, don't go to the wiki. Although, I don't disagree with a spoiler. This does contain information that most GW fans won't be able to experience for at least a year. EiveTalk 02:04, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

...what? I've never said the info shouldn't be in the wiki. I'm saying it shouldn't be here, without a spoiler warning. I'm saying spoilers should...wait for it...be labeled as such. The "if you don't like it you can leave" snippiness is unnecessary, imo. Ruse talk (talk) 03:33, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

Even though it can be considered a spoiler, I don't think it's large enough of one to warrant all of this hubbub. Giving the name(s) and the event as it has already been given is perfectly fine. It doesn't reveal much at all. Does the tavern get destroyed or do you successfully repulse the thugs without damages? Does your buddy Quinn die or do you protect him or do the Seraph intervene and arrest you both and you have to escape? Does Lord Faren die or was he in on the attack or does he fight his own way out? By just saying the tavern is attacked/party is attacked/buddy is attacked you're not really revealing anything crucially spoilerific to the storyline.... imo :P 68.144.97.124 03:47, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
I can honestly say I didn't actually expect it to generate all this hubub either. I just posted thinking someone else would do it so I didn't have to read it myself. Ruse talk (talk) 03:59, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
@Ruse, that isn't what I meant by that at all. All I'm saying is that listing what happens here is relevant, and thus should stay. I didn't mean to insinuate for you to leave. And, as I was trying to say up there but I see I forgot a word, I'm in favor of a spoiler tag. Which is what you want too, so hopefully that is a compromise that will settle this. Because if a person keeps reading beyond a spoiler tag when they don't want spoilers, it is kind of that person's fault. EiveTalk 04:03, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
Haha, on that much we can certainly agree ;) Ruse talk (talk) 04:14, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
Ehhh, I don't think this needs a spoiler tag. It's not super-critical plot twist info, it's just establishing/validating relationships between characters. It doesn't appear to be "establish relationship with Person X, who is really the mortal form of Abaddon" or anything like that. It just looks like your character meets up with an old pal and they fight bandits. --Riddle 06:03, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
I would soooooooo like to have a relationship with Abbadon...--Mark, User talk:Markisbeest het Beest 06:32, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

Street Rat[edit]

This video has a bunch of characters and some dialogue for the Street Rat story. If anyone is able to make the names out, could they add them to the list? (one of the characters seems to be named "Bad Alice" but would need someone to double check) 68.144.77.185 00:38, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

Quality is really poor, could you find something in HD?--Sidevar 00:53, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
Her name is Riot Alice. You can find it in some of the articles on personal story: The Perils of Friendship. 82.82.252.63 11:13, 5 August 2012 (UTC)

Completion , Salma home district[edit]

For those of you stuck on how to get into "Salma district (home) to get the last few points of interest for Divinity's Reach Completion. Go to the upper level and look for a large wooden door with two seraph guards (one on either side of the door). You will get a pop up asking if you want to enter instance. Enter and you can easily walk to all the points. Micro

Name Change[edit]

I propose changing the name of this page to Salma District (Home) to reflect actual in game usage on the map, as well as any other districts labeled (Home) in the game that aren't done so on the wiki. For example, Hero's Canton (Home) is in use on the map. 71.235.184.131 19:09, 6 October 2012 (UTC) Entrance is near WP. U can also ask director to mark entrance at map.

Ogre Chieftan???[edit]

So I am getting map completion on my Norn, and walking through an alleyway, i see a nameless ogre chieftan with a pet hyena. This is in Rook's Row. Is this a bug, and has anyone else experienced something similar? Derikvyreflame (talk) 21:18, 6 October 2013 (UTC)

It's probably related to your norn's personal story, specifically the racial sympathy arc. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 22:03, 6 November 2013 (UTC)
I had the exactly same thing, clearing the map with my norn and just seeing this random ogre chieftain with his lvl 50 griffin. —Garrygar 14:28, 16 July 2016

Sign in Andrew's tavern[edit]

I've added a trivia note on the sign in Andrew's tavern. It seems to be a pretty common bar saying (basically, "don't argue with the bartender"). It's also, as far as I can tell, unique to this tavern in the game. 64.134.100.199 21:48, 6 November 2013 (UTC)
