Dialogue[edit]

Before securing the substations
Yao: Hello? Hellooo? Can you hear me?
Officer Mizuki: Who is this? I don't have time for prank calls.
Yao: Not a prank call. This is Yao from Xunlai Jade, reporting from the Nahpui Lab— see that big switch to your left?
Officer Mizuki: Look, flashing "Xunlai Jade" isn't going to make me trust anything that a disembodied voice has to say.
Yao: I'll explain in a minute, ma'am. I need you to flip that big switch to your left, on the count of—
Officer Mizuki: Listen, kid, I'm not taking orders from a civilian.
Yao: Excuse me, Officer, but we don't have time to argue. There's something loose in the system.
Yao: If we don't expel it right now, things are going to get a lot worse than angry dumpling machines and petty theft.
Officer Mizuki: Fine, okay. The switch to my left?
Yao: Correct. The corruption is going to flee as soon as we release it into the grid, so get ready to move.
Yao: On the count of three...one, two, smile for the camera!
Starting the NPC escort to substations
Yao: I'm still testing a theory, but our corruption is...sentient? Its movements are intentional. Thoughtful.
Yao: I think we can force it out of each sector by locking the corresponding breaker box.
Yao: We don't have a lot of time. How well do you know the route along the power line?
Officer Mizuki: Like the back of my hand. I have to keep those scrapyard mutts from tampering with the substations every damn day.
Yao: Good. You take the three to the south and I'll take the north route. We'll meet at the power plant after— (static)
(North)
Yao: There goes our connection. Eh, the cop seems smart enough. She'll figure it out.
Yao: The first breaker is in the lower district. Hope you've got a raptor, because we've got a lot of ground to cover.
(South)
Officer Mizuki: Yao? Damn, lost the signal.
Officer Mizuki: Well, we'd better hurry. I don't want to see things get any worse. The first breaker box isn't too far from here.
Before starting the final meta event
Officer Mizuki: Yao, I take it? Glad to see you in one piece— heck, I'm glad to see you at all.
Yao: Officer. Welcome to New Kaineng Municipal Power Plant Zero One. I'd give you a tour, but...
Officer Mizuki: Do I even want to know what made that noise?
Yao: Probably not.
Yao: Let's see if I can override the security lockdown...
Yao: There we go. Ready?
Officer Mizuki: Guess so.
Starting the final meta event
Officer Mizuki: You wanna tell me what that thing is?
Yao: Joon sort of made the big guy over there as a...fail-safe, in case the city went under siege.
Officer Mizuki: Under siege from what?
Yao: She was going through a phase. "Oh no, what if the city is overrun by a bunch of ravenous monsters. Ahhh..."
Yao: She calmed down a bit. It's fine. We probably want to take it down, though. Fast.
Officer Mizuki: Lead the way.
After failing the final event
Yao: It...escaped. After all that work. Damn it.
Officer Mizuki: Left a hell of a mess behind, too. I'd better get out there. Check on the streets.
Yao: I'll be here, trying to get the grid back online.
Yao: Be careful.
After the final boss is defeated
Officer Mizuki: I don't know Joon personally, but if that's what she likes to work on for fun...
Yao: It's been a tough year.
Officer Mizuki: Those...sparks. What do you think they are?
Yao: I'm not sure, but they seem to be drawn to the jade. The mechs, the batteries. All of it.
Officer Mizuki: Kaineng is full of the stuff now. If that's really the case...
Yao: Yeah.
Officer Mizuki: If they ever come back... Well, we'll tackle that when the time comes.
Officer Mizuki: Sounds like you've got a lot of work to do.
Yao: And you've got a lot of panicked citizens out there, Officer.
Officer Mizuki: Call me Mizuki.
Yao: Mizuki. I guess I jumped the gun on my last introduction... I'm Yao— your local, mostly friendly agender engineer.
Yao: Give me a ring if you need a hand catching bad guys, yeah?
Officer Mizuki: Will do, Yao.
Speaking to Yao after the final boss has been defeated
Yao: I'd always wondered if this was sustainable- it was already a miracle.
Yao: What would I do if it weren't? I built my life around this stuff...
Yao: Joon built the world around this stuff. Well, our world. Cantha. The rest of Tyria seems to be just fine without it.
Yao: Life without jade tech... I don't know what that looks like, but I guess we have to start imagining.
Yao: I need to track down one of those little guys...the asura? Yeah, maybe they have an alternate power core for my arm.
