Sorry, man. I didn't know how you were tracking changes for the contest at the time. Speaking of which, I just made another 9 changes for the personal story rewards attached to Rat-Tastrophe, but I forgot to log in before I made them. >< SarielV 20 x 20px 06:24, 21 September 2014 (UTC)

Skins[edit]

Adding the race note is unnecessary, it's in the infobox. And can you link me to the final decision for the page names for skins, please? Mora 22:20, 23 September 2014 (UTC)

I like being thorough, but I can remove it from future additions.

Just fyi: You can (and should) leave out the " (skin)" part from the weapon infobox value now. It’s implictely added. poke | talk 17:59, 10 December 2014 (UTC)

This will be good for weapons, but you'll need to leave armor the way it is, since canonical names for those skins aren't unique. SarielV 20 x 20px 08:24, 12 December 2014 (UTC)
I hate to say this, but your fix isn't working. Someone edited Handcrafted Yew Rod without adding (skin) and the link goes to the weapon page instead of the skin page (which doesn't exist, so the link should be red). Also, are the old entries going to be grandfathered in somehow, or will someone else have to go through them all and remove (skin) from the skin= listings? SarielV 20 x 20px 19:13, 15 December 2014 (UTC)
It uses {{ifexists}} to determine whether "Skin Name (skin)" exists - if it does, it links to it; otherwise, it links to "Skin Name". So to fix it, you just need to create the skin's page. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 19:35, 15 December 2014 (UTC)
Yeah, I went the easy and simple road for now; the alternative would be to look up the SMW skin with that canonical name, but we still have the chat code list which also creates those objects (so they are not unique). poke | talk 21:34, 15 December 2014 (UTC)
Also, the “Some skin (skin)” values will still work; but we might (in the far future) end up removing the “(skin)” part if everything works. poke | talk 21:37, 15 December 2014 (UTC)
All right, I have to admit I know squat about the back-end coding of how the wiki accesses its data. I'm plugging along with simple pages and copying things I see in other ones, after all :) I'll bug you guys if I run into further issues. SarielV 20 x 20px 22:23, 17 December 2014 (UTC)

Manually adding the skin consumable items after {{Skin list}} is just going to add more work to have to remove them instead of just adjusting the templates to include that item type to the list. Mora 21:10, 11 January 2015 (UTC)

I work with what I have available and leave the the backbone of the wiki to people that have a clue. You fix the template and the skin consumables, and I'll fix my old entries :) SarielV 20 x 20px 21:26, 11 January 2015 (UTC)

image uploads[edit]

When you upload a new version of an existing image, please be sure to clear both your browser's cache (Ctrl+F5 or Ctrl+Shift+R) and the wiki's cache (click the "refresh" tab at the top of the page) before assuming that there was an error with the upload. I thought we had stated this in an obvious fashion in the upload messages, but apparently not. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 05:57, 18 January 2015 (UTC)

That explains the mess I just went through/made. Sorry. SarielV 20 x 20px 06:04, 18 January 2015 (UTC)
Also, images are rarely renders. From that category link you can see all the images considered "renders", which is mainly just pre-release images for creatures, objects, NPCs etc. When uploading screenshots or icons in the future, please select the correct category from the drop-down menu. Well, unless it's an actual render, heh. Ventriloquist 08:37, 18 January 2015 (UTC)
Riddle me this: what catagory does an image from the Render Service fall into? Most of mine are icons from there. SarielV 20 x 20px 18:07, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
Icons are icons and should be placed in the most specific subcategory. The "render service" refers to the process of rendering any image. A "render" in the context of the wiki almost always refers to a 3D render of an in-game model. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 18:19, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
Gotcha. 18:27, 19 January 2015 (UTC)

I hadn't found out as yet, so thanks :) I'll probably still update the above list whenever I see myself make an anonymous donation. SarielV 20 x 20px 23:01, 2 December 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for pointing out the bug I introduced with {{story reward}}[edit]

^ this was due to the parameters not being passed via the "story reward" template that provides the edit link. I have fixed that, apologies. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 08:45, 24 October 2015 (UTC)

No worries. I know everyone's obsessing on HoT right now, but I seem to be obsessing on old stuff for the time being :) SarielV 20 x 20px 08:28, 25 October 2015 (UTC)
Yeah, it may be old stuff but some people were heading trouble adding the revenant rewards. Just realised the racial sympathy ones will be broken too. -86.131.79.9 12:08, 25 October 2015 (UTC)

Notes[edit]

I'm not sure if it's an error or not, but empty notes sections on skin articles (such as your recent Glimmering ones) aren't really necessary. —Ventriloquist 19:35, 5 November 2015 (UTC)

I've got a template set up in Excel that subs the various bits in (you've probably figured that out). Fairly often I'll comment on animations, damage types, or lighting skins provide in the Notes section of these (skin) pages. As far as these new skins go, I haven't even seen them yet. I thought I might come back and add some commentary after studying them. Or I can remove the section until I do have something. SarielV 20 x 20px 19:51, 5 November 2015 (UTC)
In that case, it might be better to add a single line to the weapon set page, if they all share the same damage type. Repeating it sixteen times is a bit redundant when the information can be shortened. —Ventriloquist 19:56, 5 November 2015 (UTC)
No weapon set shares any type but Physical, and that one is so prevalent as to be not worth documenting. SarielV 20 x 20px 20:10, 5 November 2015 (UTC)
I see. Carry on! —Ventriloquist 20:13, 5 November 2015 (UTC)
Seems I was wrong. It's looking like every exotic weapon out of HoT is defaulting to Choke damage; this includes the named ones, Auric weapons, and Chak weapons that I have seen. SarielV 20 x 20px 21:34, 13 November 2015 (UTC)

categories and icons[edit]

I thought the icons that I've been uploading would be typed according to the article they went to. But I see they've all be going to :ArenaNet icons instead of a subcategory. The properly placed icons don't show up in both, so I was wondering if there was a way I could fix it. SarielV 20 x 20px 16:16, 29 November 2015 (UTC)

The File: page is distinct from any mainspace item pages that use it. You have to define the File's category on the File page. The {{ArenaNet image}} template can handle this for you; example:{{ArenaNet image|icon|Food icons}} will categorize the file in Category:Food icons. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 18:52, 29 November 2015 (UTC)
Awesome :) SarielV 20 x 20px 19:59, 30 November 2015 (UTC)

that category and redirect you had...[edit]

A few things:

  • Redirects that go from one namespace to a different namespace are generally a gad idea. It confuses readers - redirects in general can be confusing, and ending up in a completely different namespace makes it that much worse.
  • That category name wasn't very good. You took the item names and genericized them, but that makes for a poor category name (not to mention an ugly one) because it doesn't describe what's in the category.
    • Rather than completely reverting what you did, however — I agree with the idea of having a category for these items — I replaced it with Category:Precursor recipe boxes, which is a much better category name because a reader will know immediately what sort of pages are in the category. It also allows for the first- and third-tier recipe boxes to be included in the same category; splitting them into separate categories seemed unnecessary.
  • The recipe box on Jar of Luminesce Polish should most certainly list every individual item that unlocks it. Hiding that list behind a category is yet another point of possible confusion for readers.

I hope that all makes sense, and you don't feel insulted by it (I've been told that I can be overly blunt and offensive when I provide criticism). —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 02:06, 19 December 2015 (UTC)

  • I saw a problem. I thought I had a solution. :)
  • Reverting would have been a bad idea, since there were a number of other fixes in there (status=hot here, entire page entry there...) so, thanks :)
  • No worries. I kinda gathered that from previous comments ;D I get that way myself when I get into editor mode. SarielV 20 x 20px 03:54, 19 December 2015 (UTC)

Recipe IDs[edit]

Hiya, I see you've managed to find the recipe IDs I could not for the life of me. So How and where did you get those? I've been using http://gw2wbot.darthmaim.de/smiley/gw2itemsearch.html to get the IDs for the items, and then trying to use https://api.guildwars2.com/v2/recipes/search?output=ID_HERE, for the recipe ID, but this returns a blank statement almost every damn time. Am I doing something wrong or is there a better alternative? -Darqam (talk) 17:47, 13 January 2016 (UTC)

The recipe search API is the superior method, but as you have seen, it can fail for some reason or other. There's another way. If you look up the recipe sheet's ID in the item API, it will tell you all associated recipe IDs (it's the last data entry). I was going to leave you a note but I didn't think you'd still be around :) SarielV 20 x 20px 17:56, 13 January 2016 (UTC)
Huh, did not see this answer until now... I'll give that a try from now on. Getting annoyed at leaving that damn recipe ID field blank >.<
A side query, I've encountered the issue where gw2wbot website (nor dulfy db) has an armor/weapon item which is for sure in the game. Do I continue with page creation and just leave IDs out until they magically show up on the API? -Darqam (talk) 19:20, 15 January 2016 (UTC)
Kinda have to use your judgment on that one. I've listed a number of oddities that haven't shown up in the API, but I managed to get all the data necessary and I deemed them interesting to the player base at large. Things like Destroyer Scythe and Marjory's Everliving Blade. What are you thinking of adding? SarielV 20 x 20px 23:46, 16 January 2016 (UTC)
Honestly it's not even adding special things. Some armor/weapon pieces introduced in HoT just don't appear in the API sometimes. I know the items exist since the rest of the armor does (i.e pants won't show up but everything else will). As I know they do exist I implement them anyway, it's just odd. -Darqam (talk) 02:23, 17 January 2016 (UTC)
If you're talking about craftable things, I think what that really means is that no one has made them yet. The costs of these new armors is ludicrous, and some just aren't as useful :) SarielV 20 x 20px 08:52, 17 January 2016 (UTC)
Well at least we can still get recipe + item ids by pinging stuff ingame. Slow I know ;) -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 10:33, 17 January 2016 (UTC)

Categorizing icons[edit]

Hi Sariel. Instead of editing the file's licensing after uploading a file, you can add {{ArenaNet image|icon|<category> icons}} to the description to avoid a second edit. Just make sure to leave the drop-down Licensing menu empty, as it is replaced by the description above. —Ventriloquist 21:45, 4 March 2016 (UTC)

I'll try to remember. Not a whole lot of items needing icons right now :) SarielV 20 x 20px 22:42, 4 March 2016 (UTC)

Crucible of Eternity nav[edit]

Starting this here because History comments are the worst place to hold a conversation ;D After a run though the paths of CoE this weekend, I decided it would be a good time to resume some work I did on fleshing out the dungeon area pages. CoE's my favorite, and I wanted it to look as good as the rest of the wiki. To this end, I used the Style Guide for areas/locations pretty extensively.

The last line of the guide calls for a nav template for the area. To the best of my knowledge, none of the dungeons have a nav template. That's not much of a surprise - most dungeon locations aren't detailed at all. So, the question is, should I adapt one for CoE, and if so, where else would I put it? SarielV 20 x 20px 16:43, 6 June 2016 (UTC)

Yeah none of the dungeons have gotten much love, and I really love what you've done for CoE. As for the Navigation template, I'm not sure about that. I feel like it couldn't hurt to have, but I'm not sure if it's actually needed for the dungeons. I do know if it is made, it needs to be made for all of the dungeons and it would probably follow format of being at the bottom of the page. Sorry I couldn't help more, I hope my commenting here will bring in others who can help at least. - Doodleplex 17:57, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
Honestly (and personally speaking), I see no merits in adding navigation templates as the time spent working on these might surpass the effective usage of them. Regardless, a few people would certainly profit from adding navs. So, at the end of the day, it is entirely your call (and time). User Incarnazeus Signature.pngtalk 18:09, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
I didn't really mean where would I put it on the page, but would it also go on the main dungeon page (which has a different nav already). What makes sense, clutter, issues of that nature. SarielV 20 x 20px 18:11, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
If it were to exist, it would probably be right above the Dungeon nav on the main page, similar in appearance to how Radiant armor's nav is right above the Armor nav. - Doodleplex 18:31, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
I think I'll actually remove it.... the listing on the dungeon page feels better organized. SarielV 20 x 20px 15:16, 7 June 2016 (UTC)

PvP weapons[edit]

I figured I'd ask here since you seem to be on the ball with these things.

So, two new items appeared on the API storm wizard greatsword and storm wizard Greatsword (pvp). So how exactly are these PvP items 'formed'? Are they simple a secondary item 'unlocked' for the account to be able to use in PvP? I imagine this might be a remnant from an old system or something like that, but it seems odd and I don't get why they don't simply put PvP in the "game_types" value... -Darqam (talk) 17:51, 7 June 2016 (UTC)

Back in the pre-wardrobe days, when you obtained any type of skin item, you could choose to either unlock it for PvE or PvP use. Converting to PvP use would add the "PvP" prefix to a weapon. enabling you to use it in PvP. It was really a terrible system. —Ventriloquist 17:56, 7 June 2016 (UTC)
Exactly as V says. Back before the wardrobe, PvP gear was actual items that'd take up slots in your inventory or equipment. You would store them in the PvP locker, which would hold one copy of an item. The items were soulbound (pretty much everything was then), but the locker would reassign the binding to whoever withdrew the item. PvP gear could not be used outside of PvP, and Pve/WvW gear couldn't be used in PvP. Usually when you received a PvP item, it was placed directly into your inventory, so you'd need a way to tell at a glance what mode an item was made for.
If you inspect the items, you'll see some traits that the PvP weapons share. None of them have any attributes, other than being level 80 and exotic. They're also soulbound, as noted above. The equipment is attributeless so that the pvp amulets, pvp runes and pvp sigils (which are also items in the api) can determine your stats. It's a simplification, but it feels like a bad adaptation of an existing system (PvE gear) to me.
When the wardrobe was introduced, the locker went away. Well, actually, it didn't go away. It is still accepting items; if you somehow manage to get some pvp gear via a legacy skin box from old achievements, you can store it away like crafting materials to your bank, and never see it again. So, you can't withdraw from it any more, but it still exists. Why?
The wardrobe is easily seen as an adaptation of the PvP locker. Instead of storing items, now you are checking off the big list of skins. But by changing their stance on skin usage, ANet now had a problem - how to reconcile PvP gear so that a player could bring his own gear into PvP but not be affected by its stats. The solution they seem to have taken feels very convoluted, probably so as not to have to gut the PvP equipment system entirely. The locker now works invisibly to provide PvP copies of your gear, for use in PvP. Any time you enter the arena, your gear is cloned, matched to the statless lvl 80 copies elsewhere in the api, then placed on your character along with the amulet, sigils, and runes you've chosen.
These cloned items wouldn't actually be spawned until someone needs one. This would explain why the PvP versions trickle into the API at a much slower rate than the regular ones, and why old ones suddenly appear on occasion. Someone decided they wanted to dig out an old skin for kicking butt in the arena, and it turns out he's the first to use it in years. I've seen one or two appear in the API shortly after I put it on a weapon, so it feels like this is correct. It also explains why they are still being made.
Why still use the (PvP) in the name, if no one actually sees this gear? It's probably either automated, or the items are made that way to ensure other things work without having to update old code and old items. So, like you said, it's a remnant of an old system. SarielV 20 x 20px 18:51, 7 June 2016 (UTC)
Level 0 gear versions of skin consumables is a different story, but also a remnant of a system. In this case, the transmutation splitter. Someone on reddit reported that they received a level 0 exotic, account bound, version of a Zenith weapon after using the splitter on it, which is an awfully nice starter weapon you could pass around for keyfarming. These things are leaking out in other ways too. I've got a set of 0-rare Primeval armor from the Primeval Armor Chest, and now the forge is producing the 0-masterwork versions of the first ahlloween weapon skins. SarielV 20 x 20px 18:59, 7 June 2016 (UTC)
I can't explain how 46624 was uncovered, because I can't think of any conditions under which it would have been spawned by the game. SarielV 20 x 20px 19:01, 7 June 2016 (UTC)
I like documenting these things for a couple of reasons. At some point I expect someone will find some application for listing out the items in the API and wiki, and the more known entries, the better. There are a lot of gaps, and until recently the Destroyer Scythe was in one of those gaps. We know what we do about it because there were hints for where to go digging provided by known PvP Destroyer weapons. The PvP gear also shows just how much of a mess equipment names were in at the time, and if someone still somehow remembers the name of one of their favorite weapons they can link to the proper modern entry. SarielV 20 x 20px 19:16, 7 June 2016 (UTC)
Wow, thanks for the in-depth explanation. So if I wanted to 'force' a population of pvp weapons then, I would only need to bind a 'unknown to the API' skin to one of my weapons/armor and enter pvp lobby? Mind you have I have no intention of doing this, but I'm curious if it is that simple? If that is the case... then there is probably also something else at play since I have run with the Assaulter's White Mantle Sunderer in PvP a few times for the past 2-3 weeks, and still don't see a PvP version of that. -Darqam (talk) 20:18, 7 June 2016 (UTC)
I think it would be true. It may only apply to older skins, as it seems the API master is having issues with keeping the API whitelist (the findable stuff) updated. A number of the PvP Super weapons haven't debuted yet, and maybe they'd be a good starting point for an experiment. SarielV 20 x 20px 20:23, 7 June 2016 (UTC)

PvP weapons whitelisting experiment[edit]

All right. I identified a few skins I had that haven't had their pvp versions show up yet in the API:

  • Shiverstone (id = ?)
  • Dead Stop (id = 44811)
  • King Toad's Torch (id = 46562)
  • King Toad's Sword (id = 46595)

I equipped all 4 on my guardian and entered a practice arena where they were doing dailies. We'll see if any of these show up in the API by the next major update (sometimes the whitelisting requires a milestone, according to Lawton). I think that would be next Tuesday, 6/14/16. I've done this with Shiverstone before, and it hasn't shown up yet, so that doesn't support the theory. SarielV 20 x 20px 05:02, 8 June 2016 (UTC)

Or just ask lye to whitelist them ^_^--Relyk ~ talk < 05:12, 8 June 2016 (UTC)
I could, but that would defeat the purpose of the experiment. To determine if the automated process is triggered by this. SarielV 20 x 20px 05:50, 8 June 2016 (UTC)
Annnnnnnd failed on all counts. Hmmmmm :/ SarielV 20 x 20px 18:53, 14 June 2016 (UTC)
The failure continues today, even though a large number of items have been added today. I'll need to rethink my theory. SarielV 20 x 20px 22:21, 28 June 2016 (UTC)
Well, given how often I see a dev post in the api forum that he needs to whitelist stuff manually; perhaps this just ends up in queue and they just don't have time to get to it... maybe? -Darqam (talk) 22:38, 28 June 2016 (UTC)

I don't suppose...[edit]

...you could do the rest of the dungeons could you? If not, no worries, but you did such a lovely job with CoE so I'm hoping perhaps you might do the others as well heh. - Doodleplex 18:20, 8 June 2016 (UTC)

I'm down to one image I need for CoE (story again). I could be convinced to do a few of the others, but I think AC, CoF and Arah would be better assigned to someone else ;D I'd already put some time in on SE and CM. I'll probably head to those next. SarielV 20 x 20px 18:31, 13 June 2016 (UTC)

Kudu's Monster's attack descriptions[edit]

Is there a reason why you made it sound like he does the hokey pokey dance? Konig 18:18, 14 June 2016 (UTC)

Just having fun :) I mean, he's got 20+ attacks, but maybe 3-4 animations. "He stomps"x20 seemed a bit boring. SarielV 20 x 20px 18:51, 14 June 2016 (UTC)

Skills[edit]

Hey hey. If you could just add pve to the STDT tables when creating 'em, like this, that'd be great. Thanks! —Ventriloquist 09:54, 19 July 2016 (UTC)

Usually when I've copied the table from a different page, it says "item". Any preference? SarielV 20 x 20px 14:40, 19 July 2016 (UTC)
Also, pinging skills via /wiki wasn't working last night. Any idea what might be up there? SarielV 20 x 20px 14:50, 19 July 2016 (UTC)
Well, "item" should be used on tables that describe items, which aren't inherently "pve", whereas the bundles you create are almost exclusively tied to PvE content. As for the pinging, were you pinging a skill that's already on the wiki, or was it a new chat code? —Ventriloquist 15:34, 19 July 2016 (UTC)
Both new and old skills. I was comparing the chat codes to make sure some of these bundles didn't have identical-looking skills with different IDs. The wiki displayed the chat codes but claimed the entries weren't there. SarielV 20 x 20px 15:37, 19 July 2016 (UTC)
Figured it out. I had JavaScript turned off. SarielV 20 x 20px 18:45, 28 July 2016 (UTC)

File redirects[edit]

They don't work, so please don't create them. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 20:15, 28 July 2016 (UTC)

I didn't like making them either, but they're working from where I'm sitting. The icons are displaying where they need to. SarielV 20 x 20px 20:18, 28 July 2016 (UTC)
I tried fixing those with null edits, but that didn't seem to work. Could this just be a "wait for a bit and things will be situated" thing? - Doodleplex 20:34, 28 July 2016 (UTC)
I thought it was something needing fixed in the template. Usually a few refreshes would get a missing icon to display. If you want to delete the redirects and see if it solves itself, be my guest. I just thought I had a quick fix for something that didn't seem to be working 100% ;D SarielV 20 x 20px 20:56, 28 July 2016 (UTC)

Quick heads up[edit]

The current issues you are seeing with the template may or may not be related to Guild_Wars_2_Wiki:Admin_noticeboard#Background_Update_in_Progress.3F the current re-build of the database. It may not be worth wile to bash your head in for it (unless I am wrong, then proceed with head bashing).-Darqam (talk) 17:30, 15 August 2016 (UTC)

That might explain why all these armor lookups are failing. Guess I'd better leave it sit before I cause some damage :/ SarielV 20 x 20px 17:32, 15 August 2016 (UTC)
Yeah I was noticing this with all the heart quests failing to locate where they originated from. Sure a purge fixed the page, but it seems to break other stuff along the way since it gets thrown in the back of the queue. So personally I am done touching "broken" template stuff unless it's evident or the whole update is done. -Darqam (talk) 17:34, 15 August 2016 (UTC)

Something You May Find helpful...[edit]

User:Doodleplex/Sandbox4 - I meant to drop this off on your page awhile ago(but then Bloodstone Fen happened and I got distracted by shinies). Feel free to go crazy with it, and here's to making that category have a 200 or less items in it by years end! =) - Doodleplex 02:04, 25 September 2016 (UTC)

Regarding image contributions...[edit]

Special:ListFiles/SarielV - so you don't have to have a manually updated article. Konig (talk) 20:34, 6 November 2016 (UTC)

That DOES greatly simplify things. Thanks :) SarielV 20 x 20px 03:11, 7 November 2016 (UTC)

"Unobtainable" PvP-only skins[edit]

Per [1]: Some of those skins are actually offered via the Guaranteed Wardrobe Unlock, but hasn't been documented separately on that page's lists. Should double check which are, because I'm fairly certain the Lionguard PvP weapons are in that unlock, for example. Konig (talk) 22:41, 4 January 2017 (UTC)

I had a bad feeling that would be the case. You may know Asuaka and I keep track of those things in the Bug forum. He hadn't made any note that they were now unlockable on either of his threads, and the list on the wiki is, of course, incomplete. Someone else is going to have to verify those, because I don't have an unlock and don't feel like gambling for one :( SarielV 20 x 20px 22:45, 4 January 2017 (UTC)
Preview a Black Lion Chest. Then preview the Unlock item within that preview. Previewception! Konig (talk) 22:46, 4 January 2017 (UTC)
Awesomeness. Never even occurred to me. I'll do that when I get home :) SarielV 20 x 20px 22:47, 4 January 2017 (UTC)

Query query[edit]

Could someone write me a query showing all Inquest and their level, sorted on level? SarielV 20 x 20px 17:35, 13 January 2017 (UTC)

Maybe you want this (remove "pre" tags and preview):
{| class="wikitable sortable"
! File
! Context
{{#arraymap:
{{#dpl: | category = Inquest | namespace = | format = ,¶%TITLE%,, }}
|\n|@@@|
{{!}}-
{{!}} [[@@@]]
{{!}} {{#ask: [[Has canonical name::@@@]] | limit = 1 | searchlabel = | ?Has NPC level | default = unknown level | headers = hide | mainlabel = - }}
|\n}}
|}
Hope it helps. -Darqam 17:43, 13 January 2017 (UTC)
Yes, almost perfect, and it showed me what I expected to see. Thank you :) SarielV 20 x 20px 18:13, 13 January 2017 (UTC)
{{parameter check|NPC infobox|level|cat=Inquest}}
Cool, so the difference between the two queries brings up two shitty lore npcs without an infobox. "Chibb", "Greeza". -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 18:52, 13 January 2017 (UTC)
I think they fixed the fractal so you can save those two now, so they do need infoboxes, pictures, etc. - Doodleplex 18:56, 13 January 2017 (UTC)
Of course there is a simpler version of that that I didn't know about... *sigh* -Darqam 19:20, 13 January 2017 (UTC)
EC:They've always been savable, it's just that in Tier 1 the dormitories aren't accessible and those two are as corpses in the center. But those aren't the NPC names. The actual NPC names are Inquest Technician Greeza and Inquest Technician Chibb. Someone must have made the articles after doing the low level fractals / story mode of the fractal and never saw the corpses. Konig (talk) 19:22, 13 January 2017 (UTC)
Do the corpses have those simple names or the longer names though? (Because I want to be stupidly sure before I move pages where they should be.) - Doodleplex 19:28, 13 January 2017 (UTC)
I'm like 75% sure it's the more complex names. —Ventriloquist 22:06, 13 January 2017 (UTC)

Icons[edit]

Just so you know, there's like a ton right here just waiting to be named and moved. ;D - Doodleplex 21:12, 8 February 2017 (UTC)

Ngrah. Messy. Some of those icons for the new legendary look very similar. SarielV 20 x 20px 21:19, 8 February 2017 (UTC)

Durmand Prior weapons[edit]

That staff wasn't the only weapon like that, there were a few others with the same spelling that got marked as a spelling bug, and the talk page for the staff seems to make sense as to why it would be a typo bug and not intentionally Prior. Either way, I put it on the QandA page for Anet to make sure if it's intentional or not, so for the time being, it might be better to leave the bug on there until it can be verified as intentional or not to avoid confusing people/for consistency's sake. - Doodleplex 18:13, 16 March 2017 (UTC)

It's probably a 50/50. ;D I just wanted to indicate that it could mean "belonging to a prior", which seemed like a good term for a Priory member of undetermined rank. SarielV 20 x 20px 21:02, 16 March 2017 (UTC)

Repetitive fixing typo edits[edit]

You know we have robots we can use to fix stuff like that right? You could have just created a list of pages + let a robot fix it. (Guild Wars 2 Wiki:Bots#Requests and discussion) -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 20:02, 31 March 2017 (UTC)

Wouldn't know how to set it up. SarielV 20 x 20px 05:15, 1 April 2017 (UTC)
Just go and ask something like "I see X thing is off and it's probably on a bunch of pages, can a bot change it to Y?". Simple as that. - Doodleplex 05:58, 1 April 2017 (UTC)

Template_talk:Skill_fact#pre.2Fsuf_options[edit]

Did you have any examples where we still wanted to use the parameters?--Relyk ~ talk < 19:03, 26 July 2017 (UTC)

The one I pointed at doesn't have it any more. I'm close to finished with bundle skills, and anything I'd have used it is already handled by other options (some more elegantly than others). I think everyone else likes it that way. 184.18.209.226 19:21, 26 July 2017 (UTC)

Cultist Missile Reflection[edit]

Heh, I wasn't thinking of going that far, just properly marking it. I don't want the poor page to become an orphan! —Ventriloquist 16:38, 8 August 2017 (UTC)
That's what led me to it. Not being a fan of fractals, I can't give it a proper context. SarielV 20 x 20px 16:47, 8 August 2017 (UTC)

Because I just found them[edit]

You might find some icons for the pages you just made here, though you might have to search around a bit. Cheers! - Doodleplex 20:32, 15 August 2017 (UTC)

Can I rename those? SarielV 20 x 20px 20:38, 15 August 2017 (UTC)
If by rename you mean move to their correct name, sure go ahead. - Doodleplex 20:41, 15 August 2017 (UTC)

Talking on an archived page[edit]

Just in case you didn't see the note on the top, User talk:Dr ishmael/Archive 2 was an archive from 2012, and Ishmael left the note on the top said not to continue on any of the conversations there but start a new one on his current talk page. Not to mention that user that asked that question hasn't been active since 2013 so even if they did come back they'd never know you responded since that page is an archive, so it would probably be better remove your response from there and add it to the user's page. - Doodleplex 16:16, 25 August 2017 (UTC)

LOL. Color me observant XD I commented on it because I've been cleaning up those same damn pages over the course of the last couple of months. I thought it had to be recent. SarielV 20 x 20px 16:18, 25 August 2017 (UTC)
Ahaha, boy do I know that feeling. XD Archived talk pages, especially archived user talk pages, are the worst-you think you've gotten all the broken links but a week later you find more. Oh well heh. Anyway, to avoid a possible conversation continuing on that archive page, if you wouldn't mind moving it to the user's talk page or just removing it(if you feel it's not worth moving), I'd appreciate it, but I'll leave it up to you. =) - Doodleplex 16:33, 25 August 2017 (UTC)

Page stats[edit]

Being the egotistical thing I am, I'm curious if there is a way to see page views. The statistics page I have access to doesn't show it. SarielV 20 x 20px 15:48, 22 September 2017 (UTC)

Not sure about views, but this shows how many users are 'watching' your talk page (I'm one of them!). —Ventriloquist 19:21, 22 September 2017 (UTC)

Mad Mixup[edit]

So I'm going to move the 2012 version of Mad Memoires to another name so the current version can have it instead so links don't get mixed up. One question to figure out the name: is the original version completely gone from the game or is it just discontinued? - Doodleplex 20:32, 19 October 2017 (UTC)

It's historical. It cannot be obtained any longer, but some players have copies. I have the original second tier one still. I'm not sure the difference between historical and discontinued, though. SarielV 20 x 20px 05:43, 20 October 2017 (UTC)
Historical = has been removed from the game completely, nobody has one anymore. Example: Scroll of Knowledge. Discontinued = no way to get it anymore but some people could very well still have one. Example: Mini Chest of the Mists. - Doodleplex 05:53, 20 October 2017 (UTC)
Discontinued then. And now I might need to sift through the historical items, because I'm sure I got it wrong before this. SarielV 20 x 20px 06:02, 20 October 2017 (UTC)

Cheapest skins[edit]

Just saw this bit on your user page: "Originally I was going to devise a site with the cheapest means of acquiring every skin in the game. I have gathered all the data and keep it updated, but lack the time and necessary web coding and hosting. So I have been putting the information on the wiki as best I can.".

It's already a feature of GW2Shinies, though it hasn't been updated with the new PoF skins as far as I see. --Kazerniel (talk) 15:08, 8 November 2017 (UTC)

Other people have moved into that niche, since that project was from 2014, and I don't have plans to make anything to compete with their offerings. The strength of what I had lay in its coverage. I listed every method you could get a particular skin, including those that tend to be beneath notice like the karma and craftable sets. I try to keep that stuff up to date, but it's fallen behind, particularly with the release of PoF and a general lack of info on how to get the new skins. SarielV 20 x 20px 15:26, 8 November 2017 (UTC)

Your chart images[edit]

Long story short, somewhat ironically, I fixed your chart images from showing up as orphaned without realizing you'd asked how to not make them orphaned. Basically, just because there's a link to an image on a page, doesn't mean it means it's being used, just that it's being linked to, it's similar to linking to a template versus actually using the template to do something. However, I discovered by accident that if you use "Media" instead of "File" the image won't count as being orphaned but stays in a link format. So, when I was poking through the unused images, I found your charts and switched them to media, so they'll no longer show up as orphaned. Just wanted to give you a heads up. Cheers! - Doodleplex 17:33, 21 November 2017 (UTC)

Excellent news :) SarielV 20 x 20px 17:41, 21 November 2017 (UTC)

Cat Colours[edit]

Flame point isn't a breed of cat, it's a colour variation(mostly found in Siamese I think), and in general, anything relating to cats that is "X point" usually refers to colour. ;) Goes back to her crazy cat lady corner - Doodleplex 23:48, 1 December 2017 (UTC)

We owned a string a flamepoint Siamese kitties when I was a kid. :) SarielV 20 x 20px 02:02, 2 December 2017 (UTC)

Sic tag[edit]

So curious about this edit: [2]. Hail would be correct, so I'm not sure why you added a sic tag. Is it misspelled in game as "hale"? - Doodleplex 19:13, 21 December 2017 (UTC)

Hail is weather. Hale is a greeting. Thus, "Hail" is wrong when saying hello to your mother. SarielV 20 x 20px 01:55, 22 December 2017 (UTC)
Personally, never heard of "hale" as a greetings. "Hail" can be both weather and greetings, as the first page from the link you posted says. Also- Hail Hydra! Sime (talk) 01:59, 22 December 2017 (UTC)
Pulled up Mirriam-Webster. Looks like you're right. SarielV 20 x 20px 02:14, 22 December 2017 (UTC)
I completely forgot hail was a type of precipitation. It’s always fun when two words are spelled the same way but mean different things, like “minute” can mean a really tiny thing or a period of time. - Doodleplex 03:18, 22 December 2017 (UTC)

Ridhais and the Awakened invasion[edit]

Sure no unique dialogue? According to some there was. Said dialogue making specific note of calling the PC the "knight of the thorn". Konig (talk) 21:53, 26 January 2018 (UTC)

I took the only character I had completed Calabolg on and compared the dialogue to what I already had. You are free to check it independently and see if I missed something, but I don't remember anything standing out. I'm a little burnt out on recording dialogue :) I worked out a few of the other situational texts but I don't think I'm in a position to check the ones you suggested for norn and charr. SarielV 20 x 20px 07:35, 28 January 2018 (UTC)

Access Card[edit]

Are you sure about this? It seems very weird it would drop from a chest that requires the Card to enter. —Ventriloquist 07:07, 11 July 2018 (UTC)

Nevermind, confirmed this myself. It's not the chest, but the final event itself. —Ventriloquist 14:17, 11 July 2018 (UTC)
Positive. There's one chest that spawns outside of that room, roughly in the center of the avenue. I usually run with a full inventory, so autoloot doesn't pick it up. SarielV 20 x 20px 07:02, 14 July 2018 (UTC)
I've been revisiting this area the past few nights and I have the mechanics down now. The Champ Awakened Asura drops one Access Card if you got credit for killing it. At the end of the event (after destroying the plague experiments), a chest appears just west of the stairs entering Gandara, and you can get a Card from it too. If you already have an Access Card in your inventory, you won't receive another from either source. If you immediately use the one that you receive from the Champ Asura, you'll get a second one from the chest after finishing the event. SarielV 20 x 20px 12:57, 16 September 2018 (UTC)

Forcing Table Update[edit]

I saw that you made then reverted a change to Blue Wurm Husk to try to force a table update. Did you try a purge first? You can append "&action=purge" to the end of the page URL to force it to rebuild the cache. —Karob • 18:04, 15 August 2018 (UTC)

That's news to me, and welcome news. I'll give it a shot. SarielV 20 x 20px 05:44, 16 August 2018 (UTC)
No good. It tries to pull up the Blue_Wurm_Husk&action=purge page. SarielV 20 x 20px 05:48, 16 August 2018 (UTC)
My mistake- that was supposed to be "?action=purge".—Karob • 00:39, 19 August 2018 (UTC)
Ok, presumably that worked, but the table is still not picking up Champion Flame Effigy. SarielV 20 x 20px 03:25, 20 August 2018 (UTC)
I see now- the Champion Flame Effigy hasn't been showing up because it is currently marked as historical. I added "include historical content=y" to the "dropped by" table, and the effigy is now on the list!—Karob • 21:48, 20 August 2018 (UTC)
Woohoo! :) SarielV 20 x 20px 02:28, 23 August 2018 (UTC)

Salvage Pile and its huge drop[edit]

I saw your edit on Salvage Pile and its explanation, so I polished it a little, but then I found what might have happened instead, and so want to ask if the following isn't more likely:

Since (probably) Jormag Rising, the third tier of salvage empowerment makes you auto-consume obtained Charr Salvage. It was already proved they can drop sometimes from the salvage pile, so here's what I think happened: You have the third tier of Salvage Empowerment. While mining the pile, you dropped the masterwork salvage as a bonus drop, which got auto-consumed and gave you the 75 supplies (numbers fit).

Could it be so? DJemba (talk) 19:55, 9 August 2020 (UTC)

Even when autoconsumed it shows up in the chat log. I recall not having anything in the chat log. Remove it for now if you must but I'll be keeping an eye out in the future. SarielV 20 x 20px 01:20, 10 August 2020 (UTC)
