mainspace general talk

You can't generally talk about skills and items/etc. on their talk page here? Only stuff to improve articles? Man, that feels weird, we never had anything like that on guildwiki. --TalkpageEl_Nazgir 23:34, 23 February 2012 (UTC)

Whilst it is uncommon for the Guild Wars wikis, unofficial and official alike, GW2W hit consensus to discontinue any forumesque environment in main space. This wiki is intending to take on a more serious wiki stance by keeping talk pages for articles in their correct use; the discussions on the revisions of articles.
That said, it's fine talking about things in user space as much as you desire. - Infinite - talk 23:39, 23 February 2012 (UTC)
Ah, thanks for clearing that up. --TalkpageEl_Nazgir 23:43, 23 February 2012 (UTC)
It's just kinda how people decided it was not good for GuildWiki to keep Build space, if you remember/were around back then. The goal is to make documenting the game effortless, not having endless discussions on effectiveness of seemingly limitless factors and variables like character builds, individual skill performance and such. I suppose nobody still minds if anybody asks "does this work with X skill" or something like that, but anything more elaborate than that may or may not be overlooked. Well, that's how I see it, anyway. Mediggo 00:14, 24 February 2012 (UTC)
In the spirit of pointless discussion on wiki, just popping in to say hi, and thanks for posting on my talk page. Check back on my main page later (once that pesky "Under Construction" goes away) for more points you can disagree with :D --Mooseyfate 01:30, 14 April 2012 (UTC)

Sanctuary

You did sign up one day for Sanctuary, but lately I've seen some difficulties in general. With the world system it can be difficult to manage it all, mainly because most people plan to join several guilds. I don't know exactly how it will work out and if you need to be on the same world to be in the same guild, but if that will be the situation I think I have to disbanden the guild because everyone want to play with their best friends =) -- Cyan User Cyan Light sig.jpg 07:59, 16 May 2012 (UTC)

I completely understand that and encourage you to play with your friends since I'm going to do the same. I'll still be hoping to play with plenty of guilds I've more or less signed up for, but what really comes out of that remains to be seen. Until release! Mediggo 08:01, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
Exactly. If it works out otherwise I've said nothing and I'm just going to continue with it! =)
And I was planning to copy and paste this like a pro on every members talkpage, but my phone is succesfully conspiring against me.. -- Cyan User Cyan Light sig.jpg 08:13, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
You don't need to be in the same world as your guild (or even your party). You do need to be in the same instance (world or otherwise) to PvE/PvP together. (Although I think you can get party members to join your personal story, since that's a personal instance.) My guild has members from at least four continents and (aside from the usual glitches), there weren't any issues being in different/same worlds in terms of guild chat, representation, or other ways of connecting.
Each toon can represent a different guild; influence that toon accrues to the selected guild. While playing that character, you can only guild chat with the represented guild. No issues with any of that either, as far as I saw.
Finally, several of us tested whether US-based people in Euro-based worlds would suffer lag (or vice versa); we didn't experience any notable differences. So, unless things change as more people connect, we'll probably recommend that everyone in the guild belong to the same world, to make it easier to WvW and PvE together. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 08:47, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
I'm going to refrain from playing on US servers as much as possible because connectig there from Finland gets crappy (From Finland to Sweden to Denmark to Germany to England... oh, the latency!) Mediggo 08:50, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
If world transfers are free again during the next BWE, I urge you to give it a try; it would be useful to see how well ANet has established relationships with various ISPs. As noted, our guildies connected from four different continents and no one complained of lag (except during the first hour, when everyone was experiencing some type of glitch). (Of course, if the transfers aren't free, it wouldn't be worth risking lag for the entire event.) – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 09:05, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
If different worlds are no restriction I see some possibilities, mainly because I focus on PvE for Sanctuary (although I'm open to do everything). Besides that, I'm still not sure on which world I want to play, and most of my friends are new on the game, so most likely they follow my choise. We will see at release =) -- Cyan User Cyan Light sig.jpg 09:29, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
Sanctuary has such a fine, easy-going but noble theme/spirit around it that I'd like it to remain and hopefully garner more members. PvE I can handle on US servers, and if they really outdo it with lag-away it may be possible to sPvP. Btw Cyan, would you consider changing link color in guild userbox? It's nigh-transparent. Mediggo 09:34, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
I'll revamp it a little ;) -- Cyan User Cyan Light sig.jpg 10:21, 16 May 2012 (UTC)

Security

Hi Mediggo, the GW2BR wiki has been receiving some spamming by suspicious user accounts (probably bots or alike), so I've been wondering what security measures are you guys taking to protect this wiki from being flooded with spammed content? I'm not sure right now but I don't think Qoff has taken security measures to prevent this from happening in the brazilian wiki yet. Oh, sorry for dropping this question for you all of a sudden but it seems I keep asking stuff choosing the person to answer them by random lol. Thank you! (Valento) - 201.24.9.137 09:50, 25 May 2012 (UTC)

You may wanna take a look at Special:AbuseFilter, but for details you should probably to talk to an administrator. Mediggo 10:32, 25 May 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, all the filters are set to Private here, so that probably won't help you much - an admin would have to send you the rules by email or something. The extension is AbuseFilter. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 12:05, 25 May 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for the clear answers, I'll be talking to an administrator as soon as I solve some other issues. I have another question that's somehow related to security, since there are tons of pages all over this wiki I might be missing something but I hope you don't get too mad at me as this might've been discussed somewhere: first, which DPL version are you using, the standard or the 3rd-party extension? second, I've been said there are security issues involving using DPL (as well as stated in the 3rd-party extension page) such as arbitrary html/js injection, server-side arbitrary code execution (when using AddHandler directive) when checking dplcache. It's really time-consuming to make changes in the individual pages reflect in each page their informations are referred (concept of reusability), so we're really considering using DPL as long as it's safe to use. I hope I made myself clear as my English is poor as hell. :S - Valento 23:20, 25 May 2012 (UTC)
3rd-party, but poke modified it to remove the security hole. You'd have to ask him for the new code. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 23:30, 25 May 2012 (UTC)

My past RFA

The reason that my past RFA wasn't in the "Resolved RFAs" category is that it came so far before this entire system was developed (think a year and a half ago) that it didn't warrant a category. Aqua (talk) 01:41, 30 May 2012 (UTC)

I had figured it was still considered relevant as being an early example of RFA process on GW2W. I think there was also some other discussion relevant to RFA, adminship in general, and/or your previous RFA. Anyway, thanks for letting me know. Mediggo 07:28, 30 May 2012 (UTC)

I wonder

Why are you lingering on the wiki at this time? (And yes, it's not a extraordinaire special time but I have to do SOMETHING to keep myself alive in this dreadfull situation.) -- Cyan User Cyan Light sig.jpg 11:14, 31 May 2012 (UTC)

My racial feat "Finnish" gives me +2/3 (winter/summer, respectively) to attribute "Timezones." :) Mediggo 11:18, 31 May 2012 (UTC)
Aha. Now is that only 1 hour ahead of me, so that's not a worldshocking difference. I want to go to Finland you know, although only if the sun is hiding there. -- Cyan User Cyan Light sig.jpg 11:21, 31 May 2012 (UTC)
I keep hearing people tell me that quite often, which is kinda nice. :) You mean during polar night? Then you'd need to go quite north. Mediggo 11:31, 31 May 2012 (UTC)
Polar night is indeed something I want to experience once (or twice). Besides that I like to go on vacation to places I've never been and also places that others I know never visited. Thereby does Finland have a mystic feeling over it, the same I feeling I get with Ireland and some parts in Denmark and Sweden. I like celtic and northern cultures (although you can also make me happy with ancient greek or roman cultures). -- Cyan User Cyan Light sig.jpg 11:36, 31 May 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, I too appreciate variety of different cultures, but I'm not a fan of traveling anywhere far, if possible, and the only more exotic place I have been to are the Canary Islands (Gran Canaria and Tenerife). My fiancée is exactly opposite – she would want to travel to Europe and India and wherenot, and I'm always like "Uuugh, I wanna play computer games" :D It's not a problem or anything, though. When it comes to Nordic (and European) countries, Finland is a tad bit unique since we have a lots of cultural traditions from eastern Europe and Russia as well as modern western world.
You don't have it any worse, though, being in the crossroads of Brits (and America), Spain and rest of the continental Europe and having had much influence in the area throughout the previous millenia. Netherlands is one of my favorite nations in Civilization series. ;) Mediggo 11:57, 31 May 2012 (UTC)
The Netherlands is not a bad place to live, but I'm not greatly impressed by our culture and history, although we were a very active country in the past (and sort of even now). The thing I dislike the most about the Netherlands is the lack of space, it's such a filled land. Plus the weather is mostly plain bad, so I don't recommend a holiday here. =) -- Cyan User Cyan Light sig.jpg 12:13, 31 May 2012 (UTC)
And to connect the Netherlands to gaming, it's my favourite in Age of Empires 3 ^^ -- Cyan User Cyan Light sig.jpg 12:14, 31 May 2012 (UTC)

I wasn't trying to be insulting n__n. Inconscious is actually spelled right, but it's just an older version of unconscious. I assume that it's because the English classes at Finland teaches that variant instead and it isn't wrong to use it... you just don't see it very much in the states so it catches your attention. It was changed because of words like invaluable meaning more valuable, where as inconscious doesn't mean more conscious, so it was confusing. Anyway, I was just playfully joking and if it sounded like I was making fun then I apologize :). --Lania User Lania Elderfire pinkribbon.jpg21:57, 31 May 2012 (UTC)

Lore crazyness

All right. Let me get this straight. Or possibly more complicated...

In 1078AE gw1:Kerrsh is researching the human gods, and with some help from human adventurers, discovers that the gw1:Facets of human gods leave "magical signatures," which when slain, produce something akin to "coordinates," which lead them to a place where the said facets of the six gods gather. After discomposing them in the end of gw1:the Path to Revelations, a cryptic message is received. As some of you might now, the message, deciphered, is:

An offering to those who seek
Beyond the mists beyond the dreams
On distant shores of a land unwaking
Answers there lie in waiting

As is quite helpfully stated in article on Orr, Jeff Grubb mentions that this might have something to do with Orr, the elder dragons themselves and their origins.

There's also another, mysterious character, gw1:Bahltek, doing research on human gods. He claims, among other things, that "The gods can be seen in the heavens... to varying degrees. They've emblazoned their marks upon the firmament, and these marks are not constant. "As many gw1:Factions players know, star constellations can be considered to have something to do with otherwordly spirits or presences, like that of gw1:Shiro Tagachi, the Mists or even the gods themselves (consider the possibility of this being related to gw1:Lord Odran)

The said character also expresses great interest in finding an ancient scroll of some kind. As we know, ancient scrolls in Guild War universe can be pretty powerful magical devices. The best examples of them are, of course, the gw1:Tome of Rubicon and scroll read by gw1:Vizier Khilbron which resulted in a cataclysm that destroyed Orr. In addition to these magical artifacts, there is another character of our time looking for a tome about an ancient scroll which (the scroll) was in possession of norn hero Asgeir Dragonrender at the time when he came to what is now Hoelbrak. Asgeir is the only known person aside from Destiny's Edge to have had any success in harming an elder dragon. Lord Odran, creator of many portals to the Mists, has been said to possibly be related to these scrolls, as per Bahltek's dialogue.

Regarding the previous paragraphs of my argument, Lord Odran might have been in possession of a scroll or device to have been able to create the portals into the Mists. There's only a handful of other figures being related to these "mist portals": Balthazar, who opened the portal from Lion's Arch to the Mists, and gw1:Abaddon, whose death caused a tear in world to lead into his (it is said that Abaddon was struck down in the actual world of Tyria - if this is the case, the portal might have been simply caused by his fall OR he could have meant to use it as a getaway to HIS realm). Of course, the worshipping of human gods is very related to accessing the Mists, as it was possible to access realms of the gods and thus the Mists by paying tribute by their statues (possibly only in certain places of power).

Now, I'm rather interested in how human gods are possibly related to elder dragons. That is likely the case because developers or writers rarely say stuff like "this might be related to that" if they don't mean really mean it. The first elder dragon also awoke 50 years after the cryptic message was received. As you know, the cycle of elder dragons' awakening is approximately 50 years and either this or some other "cycle of awakening" has been referred to in official lore article.

The human gods have been increasingly absent of humans' affairs since the gw1:Nightfall, which is but three years before the receiving of cryptic message. They have also been stated to have created Tyria, and even races other than humans such as charr or quaggan recognize at least Melandru, but the elder dragons seem to have been here... long. The dwarves were here before humans, according to articles on Tome of Rubicon. All this leaves me to state either that...

The elder dragons are human gods, human gods have become elder dragons or that human gods are akin to elder gods, as there have been more than just the five old gods and Kormir (Dhuum, Abaddon, Abaddon's predecessor...). It cannot be a coincidince. The human gods have been, until awakening of elder dragons, considered to be supreme (not omnipotent, omniscient or...) beings in Tyria and Guild Wars universe. It cannot be a coincidence that suddenly after human gods become less active in world of Tyria and the elder dragons' awakening. It could be possible that the elder gods are defeated elder human gods like gw1:Dhuum, who was put into sleep by Grenth. Interestingly, this also fits into the "50 year cycle" of awakening. In case of Dhuum, his stirring has been stated to be due to creatures of the the underworld but being thwarted by underworld heroes.

If former would be the case, it might be that Dhuum originally resided in Arah with other gods, but was defeated by Grenth (and probably by other gods!) and transformed into Zhaitan. Of course it would be contradict Dhuum's nature and opinion of "death undeniable" but it would serve as sort of "backlash" against Grenth, who allows the existence of undead (this would lead to the complex discussion on which is the right nature of things: death or undeath, considering the possibility that Grenth would have retreated from Tyria's affairs). Human gods are also presented as being associated with, in addition to aspects of life and human emotions, certain natural phenomenons like fire or water. The elder gods are also stated to be "forces of nature." Oh, and it's also pretty damn interesting that

the facets of the human gods are dragons

Human gods' facets being dragons kind of made sense back in Prophecies because they were first seen in Dragon's Lair (Glint's place), and all that fuss of being tested to be gazed upon by the gods, BUT they were recycled outside of Glint's realm/lair and whole Ascension thing, and it even turns out Glint is a former dragon champion, too! WTF? Was Kralkatorrik, Glint's former master, a human god? Did Glint choose to serve the other human god(s) (whom presumably put Kralk to rest)? Why Balthazar appeared to open portal to Mists when they were supposed to have retreated from Tyria? What about other portals? Is gw1:Mad King Thorn a human god? Too many questions unanswered! >:( Mediggo 16:07, 13 June 2012 (UTC)

One minor point: gw1:Primordus's specific time of awakening was delayed by the slaying of gw1:The Great Destroyer - if that hadn't happened, Primordus would have awakened in 1078, rather than 1120. I don't know how or if this figures into your speculation here, but I thought I'd point it out. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 16:20, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
I don't think that anything explicitly states that 1078 (approximately) is the time when Primordus was supposed to awaken? Though it's also not explicitly stated when destroyers started driving subterranean races to the surfaces, either. Furthermore, Primordus is actually shown to at least partially awaken by the end of Eye of the North cutscene - after the Great Destroyer was vanquished, which means to me that Primordus was only further agitated by this. So his stirring and eventual awakening is either the cause or effect, or at the very least, related to facets appearing in Tarnished Coast and the cryptic message being given. Mediggo 16:31, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
Okay, the exact years don't matter, but I'm pretty sure it was explicit that his awakening was delayed by killing the GD - otherwise the GD would have enabled the awakening much sooner. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 16:58, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, that's pretty much what the Movement of the World says though I think it's a bit vague on the whole matter. It could mean that the slaying the GD sparked the whole facet business and started (and also set back) the 50-year cycles of awakening of the dragons. Mediggo 17:11, 13 June 2012 (UTC)

(Edit conflict) Going through this as I read, may repeat points.
  1. Bahltek might be referencing gw1:Nightfall (prophecy) which was fortolled in the stars, according to the gw1:Order of the Sky. As shown through the norn storyline (formerly instinct, now "protect the mists"), the Mists is not outerspace but another plane of existence which overlaps with reality (that, or the Mists have an exact duplication of the Snowleopard Lodge in Wayfarer, and the Great Lodge of Hoelbrak).
  2. "which (the scroll) was in possession of norn hero Asgeir" May have been, not was.
  3. Odran was only tied to one scroll, take note that said scroll was in Fahranur and may have been tied to the Realm of Torment. Also note that the Cataclysm scroll predates Odran by about 800 years at least. Odran's means of accessing the Mists with permanent portals (portals alone don't seem all that fancy) - he caused dozens of sacrifices and his own designed spell - no scroll. "Using a spell of his own devising and the sacrifice of many souls" gw1:Lord Odran.
  4. The bit of Balthazar making a portal in Lion's Arch seems to have been retconned, as there are now asura gates there, with an NPC that has dialogue to support the permanent existence of these gates (stating that the asura made new headway and created them).
  5. Spirits of the Wild also grant access to the Mists. The Rift is known for being able to access anywhere so I'd say that it's simply being in the Mists which gives others access to the Mists (without creating sacrifices of souls that is).
  6. Primordus woke up 50 years after EN because he was put back to sleep (he was meant to wake up in 1078). The death of the Great Destroyer caused that. This has been a raised point since The Movement of the World came out. The Great Destroyer was waking up Prime, but failed so "Primordus, the Elder Fire Dragon, stirs but does not awaken."
  7. The Human gods do not originate from Tyria, the Elder Dragons do. There may be ties - the most likely being that the Six siphoned Zhaitan (and perhaps Kralkatorrik's) powers, but we don't even know if the Gods knew of the Elder Dragons (or Zhaitan) though they more than likely knew that there was power in Arah. The gw1:Facets were stated to be tied to the gods' source of power, but not the nature of the gods, as well as being connected to the forgotten, which were also stated to not related to the ED so it's fairly up in the air. Maybe natural power takes the form of dragons when it gets so wtf strong, like dragons are the "ultimate evolution of strength" in the GW universe.
  8. Dhuum may have resided in Arah. I wouldn't doubt it. Though we have no evidence as Dhuum is even less known about than Abaddon and knowledge of him only comes from the Mists.
  9. Thorn is just a powerful spirit. Called a "spirit lord" - I'd put him alongside Ice King Frozenwind personally.
  10. Technically speaking, the "whole facet business" happened before the GD's death. During his invasion. Konig/talk 17:22, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
You make fine points, as always, but there's a lot of things that are not confirmed. Lord Odran must have used or studied hundreds of scrolls and tomes to achieve the skill or power needed to create portals and it's not really confirmed one way or the other if the Path to Revelations happens before or after GD's death. All in all it seems to me that there's a lot of room for reasonable retconning and it's the possibilities and implications that puzzle me most. Mediggo 18:23, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
On Odran: True, but that's 100% pure speculation. For all we know, he could have had a divine revelation from Abaddon (wouldn't doubt it considering everything else related to Abaddon - Titans showing, Shiro and the Jade Wind - happened at the same time, roughly).
On the timeframe of quests: False. If you go through any quest in any game you can see that they are based upon when you're expected to enter a zone. E.g., most Kournan quests are based before the MoW and Margrid split - they are focused on recovering and scouting the area. Similarly, most Tarnished Coast quests involve asura recovering before their counterstrike. As such, unless it's part of the main storyline, or not available until something, one must assume that the quests coincide with the placement of the storyline for when you first enter the explorable area.
On the retcon possibility: Thing is, Anet goes outright against what they said, not without there being pre-existing subject of disbelief (aka a fallacious source). Jeff Grubb is the source that tells us about the facets, therefore not fallacious. Konig/talk 21:10, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
Plenty of "human knowledge" which has been the point of view for us has been proven to be false. It has little to do with ArenaNet going against what they speak, and if they might have originally intended that, for instance, Glint actually was their servant and no dragons existed, we can't know and the fact that our knowledge of the world of Tyria largely depends on said humans' point of view of history and their beliefs makes for a great excuse to "make our memory lie to us." It's exactly how Logan reacted to Glint's association with Kralkatorrik in Edge of Destiny (going solely by memory here, I apologize), for example, and I think that proves to us that we, the players and community, only know little more than the rest of the humanity and/or their wisest. Most folks had little to no idea that there has a fallen god by the time they were trekking in the slopes of Abaddon's Mouth or that the Great Destroyer would actually appear in the game, so it is not impossible at all that ArenaNet has been planning even further ahead when writing original Guild Wars. However, my personal opinion on that game characters stating that "something may be there" is that those lines wouldn't be there if they didn't mean something. As such... I believe that there is a great meaning and relation between Path to Revelations, the human gods and the elder dragons. Like you said, it's unlikely to be a coincidence that there was an elder dragon slumbering somewhere in the site of city of the gods, especially since even the asura were able to leech Primordus to fuel their gates. About Kralkatorrik: You think human gods had something to do with Kralkatorrik because of Glint, perhaps? Mediggo 08:29, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
I would say that they're altering the lore where they're able to based on new ideas, rather than having planned far ahead (my personal speculation that it was originally to be Dhuum, not Abaddon, but in development turned into Arachnia and then Abaddon). As to Kralky and the gods - not just Glint, but the Searing as well. The Cauldron of Cataclysm was used to cause it and is linked to powers long fallen asleep, and Kralkatorrik is the crystal dragon - but also lightning appears where both Kralky and the Searing crystals are. Only difference is that the Searing crystals are more akin to Glint's color - blue - rather than purple like Kralky (side note: the crystals around Glint and some larger ones throughout the Crystal Desert are of the same hue as most Searing crystals, though a couple are purple-ish, especially the Shard of War). I also hope to remember to review all the guilds I applied for wiki-side, since I can't possibly extend my attention everywhere. Mediggo 10:33, 28 August 2012 (UTC)
I'm located on Aurora Glade. Since guild are universal, I could invite you if you want, but I also get it if you want to join a guild on your "own" server. -- Cyan User Cyan Light sig.jpg 13:48, 28 August 2012 (UTC)

Hi, I responded to your edit on the Elder Dragons talk page, I wonder if you could take a look? Thanks. --Santax (talk · contribs) 10:36, 8 October 2012 (UTC)

Yeah. My original intent was to preserve the paragraph I moved for later use elsewhere, not to start a massive argument of game lore. Sorry about the mess. Mediggo 08:22, 9 October 2012 (UTC)

Maybe you can help me with something

A few days ago, User:Santax created "The History of Guild Wars" - it's supposedly a verbatim transcription. Thing is, it has dozens of inaccuracies and, truth be told, rather amateur writing. I couldn't find this anywhere online, so my only guess - if it's official - would be from the Making Of Guild Wars 2 book. I have a friend with it, but she's busy, and I asked Santax but he spends weeks away from the wiki. This article gives new insights outside of the blatant falsities, so I'm highly curious about its authenticity. Think you can check the Making Of book for me? Gonna keep searching, but I can only find fragments of this elsewhere. Konig/talk 01:51, 25 October 2012 (UTC)

Nevermind, managed to find his source (BradyGames Official Guild Wars 2 guide). Konig/talk 03:34, 25 October 2012 (UTC)
Crazy long article. After quick scrolling, it seems like a lot of work (quick observations: Zojja cremated Snaff herself, birthing of Kralkatorrik seems misguiding, charr legions receiving excessive credit for making prominent use or developing of certain professions, Foefire, I'm gonna be away the next weekend as well, but I can look through the Making Of book if you wanna know about any subject in particular, until friday afternoon, or, naturally, any time after next weekend. IMHO, using a strategy guide does not really seem like a good source for Tyrian history, especially from one with such inaccuracies. There are already various articles written about Tyrian history, but an article like this could still be useful to some extent but only if vastly improved and mostly rewritten. Mediggo 08:10, 25 October 2012 (UTC)
Right, it's copied verbatim... In that case it deserves to be tagged with some kind of outdated/archived/historical notice or something similiar to make it clear that the article does not reflect neither the older or newer official manuscripts nor information from in-game sources. Mediggo 08:17, 25 October 2012 (UTC)
I was thinking of marking it with {{notice}}. Someone had previously added sections of these to Lore, Tyria (world), Cantha, and Elona (as well as Tyria, which was removed). I have been rewriting these (only one left is Lore, currently incomplete) due to said inaccuracies - but at the time, I thought it was fan-made. Issue is, there's some brand new things mixed in with the thousand and one inaccuracies, for instance "Connections and opportunities led to the creation of guilds. At first, these were economic organizations, a means for merchants to meet, disseminate goods, and set prices." - this is, outside the strategy guide, unsourced, as is " In Cantha, the new emperor, Usoka, had finally unified his continent into the Empire of the Dragon. His armies conquered the vassal states of Kurzick and Luxon, making his power absolute. These efforts were supported by the Ministry of Purity, which was originally established by Reiko Murakami to combat the Afflicted. Emperor Usoka had begun to purge the lands of revels, the sick, and any non-humans; it wasn't long before his embassies started to follow isolationist policies." - the whole continent? aided by the MoP? Kicking out the sick? Embassies followed the policies? These bits are new. So I am uncertain about how to go about this. Konig/talk 17:28, 25 October 2012 (PDT)
Well, it's either MoP supporting Usoku or vice versa, so it's not that far-fetched imo. Unfortunately, the Making Of book provides little to none information about Cantha or even most relevant events in history of Tyria. But yeah, a notice should do. The guide seems to harbor so many falsehoods that I'd rather not trust its contents to be used as a source elsewhere on the wiki. :/ The writer probably took certain liberties and implemented real history of real world guilds in their tex, and the guide went through shabby QA. Mediggo 02:20, 26 October 2012 (PDT)
The reason why it's not far fetched is the cause I don't outright dismiss it as unfound. Though we do know that the MoP's existence is what led to the mentality Usoku grew up in, per John Stumme somewhere, but that they even existed still when Usoku took over Cantha is in question. Konig/talk 08:10, 26 October 2012 (PDT)
Considering the struggle for power of government in history of Cantha, there's no telling if the current ministry supports or opposes the emperor's tyranny, or if the ministry continues to exist at all as it did hundreds of years ago. Another possibility would be that MoP has put a puppet ruler in place, and so on. The connection should aöready be clear enough and there's no real need to extend the wiki's documentation on that subject, especially without reliable source (strat guide not very reliable imo).
