Cartography[edit]
Hi, I just wanted to say extra thanks for pointing out or creating the Category:Locations missing a screenshot thing. This will be incredibly helpful, and will help distinguish between content stubs (missing info) and pages without a screenshot. Thank you!!!!! AnastashaRomanov (talk) 09:16, 6 September 2020 (UTC)
- Much appreciated though I merly documented it on the project page. It is the work of Chieftain Alex and was initiated by Sime on Discord. —Kvothe (talk) 11:19, 7 September 2020 (UTC)
RFA Nomination[edit]
Hello Kvothe! I already gave you a heads-up, but this time it's official! I hereby nominate you as a candidate for sysophood.
I think you're a level-headed, resolute, stable, earnest and active editor invested and well-known within the community. Having you on the admin team would be beneficial both for us and the wiki and fill the vacant position of patrolling/formatting sysop. Should you accept the nomination, you may head over to GW2W:RFA and start your RFA. talk 07:40, 19 October 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you, for the nomination and the kind words, Inc! I'm happy to contribute to the best game wiki (while playing my favorite game - who would have guessed). It gets better each day bit by bit - or byte :P. I will try to come up with a good statement though I'm normally one of fewer words. —Kvothe (talk) 15:55, 19 October 2020 (UTC)
RFA Success[edit]
Congrats. Don't break anything. - Tanetris (talk) 12:29, 25 October 2020 (UTC)
- Congratulations, Kvothe! Here's a semi-decent guide to get you started on sysoping: Help:Sysop guide. Otherwise, just ask away if you have any questions. talk 13:27, 25 October 2020 (UTC)
- That guide hasn't really been updated since 2011. If you see anything you'd like a quick explanation of, let us know and we can update it as we go along. -Chieftain Alex 17:21, 25 October 2020 (UTC)
Few pages that need moving[edit]
Seems you're the mover in chief here now, so mark these for a visit:
- Ancient Boreal weapon skins ("Ancient Boreal Axe (skin)" to "Ancient Boreal Axe")
- Pinnacle weapons ("Pinnacle Reaver (skin)" to "Pinnacle Reaver")
- Sovereign weapon skins ("Sovereign Eviscerator (skin)" to "Sovereign Eviscerator")
- Zenith weapons ("Zenith Reaver (skin)" to "Zenith Reaver")
I checked all the skins (sans gem store stuff) and I haven't detected any further issues.--Lon-ami (talk) 14:47, 6 November 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you for the list, I will do them in the next days. —Kvothe (talk) 19:46, 6 November 2020 (UTC)
- Here's a few more, from the gem store, same problem as those before:
- Dominator weapon skins
- Dreamthistle weapon skins
- Fused weapon skins
- Lovestruck weapon skins
- Merciless weapon skins
- Tormented weapon skins
- Zodiac weapon skins
- There shouldn't be more sets with problems, so that would be it.--Lon-ami (talk) 16:28, 13 November 2020 (UTC)
- Here's a few more, from the gem store, same problem as those before:
Collection tables[edit]
Your edit reminded me that I'm not really happy with the hint text style. One could argue that your edit is actually decreasing the readability and furthermore introducing inconsistencies between the three collection tier tables.
So what about removing the "Hint" prefix and turning the italic text into plaintext? I think this should 1. be more readable and nicer to look at 2. more consistent. The only problem could be the to differentiate the hint text from the notes text - which is unfortunately sometimes very similar. Or only change one of them (prefix or italic), any ideas? --Tolkyria (talk) 17:04, 5 August 2021 (UTC)
- Personally I would opt to keep the "Hint" prefix, but you can test to remove both. —Kvothe (talk) 09:33, 6 August 2021 (UTC)
Double redirect fix reverts[edit]
Usually double redirects are unwanted, so care to elaborate on reverting the double redirect fixes I made? 85.66.122.129 12:23, 16 August 2021 (UTC)
- It is their userspace. And since we have so few - there is no need to change that. —Kvothe (talk) 12:26, 16 August 2021 (UTC)
- Okay, I'm fine with that method. Although I like to be more consistent as I saw broken link fixes done on user pages other than its user, which falls into that category as well. Regarding Special:DoubleRedirects, if you check it, these are moves with redirect, so they should have been either fixed or deleted a long time ago in my opinion. 85.66.122.129 12:38, 16 August 2021 (UTC)
- They're actually pages specifically to test how redirects work. -Chieftain Alex 16:30, 16 August 2021 (UTC)
Edit reversion[edit]
Greetings and salutations. You recently reverted my note on "Quiche of Darkness Vegetable Mix". In the interests of making the wiki useful, the components of components (things that make the thing that is in the collection) of legendary precursors should mention on them somewhere that they're used to create part of a legendary collection. People (I) often come to the wiki looking to see whether I can delete something from my inventory. Seeing as a Note isn't how you want me to provide this information, could you kindly inform me as to the preferred method of displaying it. Thank you for all that you do for the wiki. Svarty (talk) 21:46, 22 November 2021 (UTC)
- Most pages have an infobox in the top right corner, displaying meta information such as vendor price, trading post price, chat links, etc. This box also includes collections. In the case of Quiche of Darkness, a little line saying "collection" "The Minstrel I: The Experimental Focus" appears in the infobox.
- However on Quiche of Darkness Vegetable Mix (where there's no such entry in the infobox due to it not directly counting towards the achievement), I think it would be reasonable to include a note similar to what you submitted. Even if it was stated in the infobox (which it is not in this instance), a lead sentence above the Acquisition section can sometimes help. -Chieftain Alex 22:15, 22 November 2021 (UTC)
Legendary Gen 3 icons[edit]
Unfortunately, the legendary gen 3 weapon images have been uploaded under the icon name (i.e. <weapon name>.png
). With more and more legendaries getting crafted, could you take care of these such that we can set up this prestigious pages properly and move the according icons? I already marked them for deletion. --Tolkyria (talk) 21:36, 4 March 2022 (UTC)
- Found some duplicate icons, namely Mechanist, Untamed and Specter trait icons with the black border. We already have them with the square/hexagon alpha mask and so far I haven't found any difference (maybe someone could confirm that there isn't any difference). Could you delete them too? I know it's not the proper way to ask for a deletion, but adding 36 deletion tags is getting a bit tedious at this point... if you insist I'll add it though. --Tolkyria (talk) 13:36, 6 March 2022 (UTC)
- Late thanks! Another request: "Saltspray weapons (green)" got renamed to "Spindrift weapons", now the disambigs are occupying the page names for the previously called "Saltspray weapons (blue)". Could you please delete those pages such that I can afterwards move the weapons pages? --Tolkyria (talk) 12:27, 16 March 2022 (UTC)
- Done. I actually moved the pages and did a pass over parameters and such. Only the staff is currently gathered from Chest (Cantha Meta) - it is likely that the other weapons are in there too. The interwiki links are missing and could be added while adding the gathered from section. —Kvothe (talk) 18:11, 16 March 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks, you already moved them, perfect! Interwikis are done too, "Update this item" on GW2W Easymode changes the name but does not update its content (e.g. infobox and interwikis), fortunately Alex lists also an API script for interwikis.
- The question is how many weapons do we need to assume the whole set is dropped, is one weapon enough to add the whole set? --Tolkyria (talk) 19:19, 16 March 2022 (UTC)
Living Water weapons[edit]
Thanks for helping tidy up the Living Water weapons and adjacent pages. At first I was confused why pages suddenly were changing on me mid-flow, but more hands make less work in the end. Appreciate it. Venom20 17:08, 7 March 2022 (UTC)
- Happy to help, I will start moving icons for the other sets. —Kvothe (talk) 17:20, 7 March 2022 (UTC)
[edit]
Hello Kvothe! I'm not sure you are the right person for my question. I think I documented fairly good Tournament Organizer Yu and Tournament Organizer Wu and their respective events. However I realized today that Yu is also present in New Kaineng City, Kaineng Docks by the northern pier. It seems that both NPC offers the same event New Kaineng Fishing Tournament, of course not at the same time, they seem to alternate it about every 20 minutes. However Yu's event located in the same exact region where the Fend off the leviathan event happening, so they probably prohibiting each other. Similarities:
- Yu is using the same dialogues as Wu in New Kaineng tournament. So now Yu will have minor difference between her dialogues in different regions, see her dialogue page for not event related differences.
- In both cases the same bug noted on the bottom of the page is valid, that the event provides the wrong Writ.
Differences:
- Wu's version is 3 min sign-up and 5 min tournament, while Yu's version is 2 min sign-up and 8 min tournament, like her Shing Jea tournament.
- Probably not event, but organizer related bug that the Tournament Points effect is not working as intended in case of Yu.
My solution would be: making two different events named like "New Kaineng Fishing Tournament (Yu)" and "New Kaineng Fishing Tournament (Wu)". What are your thoughts? Gorla (talk) 01:22, 17 March 2022 (UTC)
- It is likely that the events have different ids, but the API has not been updated yet so we can not check with Widget:Event table. You can either split the page or note that Wu and Yu offer different event durations. —Kvothe (talk) 13:28, 17 March 2022 (UTC)
Objectives table row[edit]
objectives table row does have the parameter map size, and thanks for reminding me to remove underscores from filenames. — TxM (talk) 01:13, 12 September 2022 (UTC)
Userpage queries[edit]
As a followup to your userpage edits where you deactivated lots of SMW queries with the reason "also causing major workload for the data rebuild", I took a look into the userpage query numbers. Maybe you can use it to improve the wiki.
Description | Number | Percentage |
---|---|---|
User pages with queries | 1465 | |
User pages with queries edited in 2022 | 248 | 16.93% |
User pages with queries edited since 2020 | 670 | 45.73% |
User pages with queries edited since 2018 | 967 | 66.01% |
Queries on user pages | 129805 | |
Queries on user pages edited in 2022 | 19922 | 15.35% |
Queries on user pages edited since 2020 | 97173 | 74.86% |
Queries on user pages edited since 2018 | 109639 | 84.46% |
Total pages with queries on the wiki | 76401 | |
Mainspace pages with queries | 74832 | 97.95% |
User pages with queries | 1465 | 1.92% |
Total queries on the wiki | 992485 | |
Queries on mainspace pages | 862180 | 86.87% |
Queries on user pages | 129805 | 13.08% |
So ~2% of the pages (namely user pages) are responsible for 13% of the queries on the wiki. Also, only 17% of the userpages containing a query have been edited this year. Note that this is only the current picture during the rebuild, the mainspace numbers may go up a bit, and thus may decrease percentages a bit (e.g. ~1.5% of the pages are responsible for ~10% of the queries).
Here is the non-substituted code (show button on the right):
--Tolkyria (talk) 08:24, 21 September 2022 (UTC)
- I wonder if it is possible to check which pages have the most queries. Perhaps we can optimize them a bit. --BuffsEverywhere (talk) 17:48, 21 September 2022 (UTC)
- Not directly, but you can browse it with

, first column are the pages, second column are the used queries (if you hover you see the link <page name>_QUERY<some random characters>, link redirects to the page but you can view the query in Browse properties). So basically we would have to browse the ~1500 pages and check where visually the second column entries and find the large one there (or copy it to excel and count the seperators there). - For example some pages stack up #ask's by using an arraymap construction (

) rather than using a single query with one result format and property printout variables. Those tend to get big very soon. - Another example: skill and trait tables in userspace, redesigns or whatever, untouched for several years, but those still need to be visited on every skill page move and thus link table cleanup. --Tolkyria (talk) 18:48, 21 September 2022 (UTC)
- Sorry, I wasn't aware that some of the pages Kvothe pre-tagged had been still logged in the Has query property. Therefore, the total number of queries on userpage can be reduced by around 32000 queries to around 97000.
- Not directly, but you can browse it with
Actually, one can easily check it with the following code in reasonable amount of time, no need for visual browsing:
<includeonly>|- | {} || {{#explode: {}|/}} || }|format=count}} || {} </includeonly><noinclude> {| class="wikitable sortable" ! page !! rootpage !! queries !! modification date    |}
- Thanks, Tolkyria. I went and disabled some queries on the pages with the most. --BuffsEverywhere (talk) 07:31, 23 September 2022 (UTC)

Wiki Reference and Queries?[edit]
Hey! So I started putting together a Chatcode parser so you can drop in a
where the base64 is ... a build template copied from game chat.
So I started my proof of concept User:KellyLSB/BuildDecode by directly noting the changes in the base64 sequence and I'm still new to writing wiki programming. Is there a wiki code compliant base64 decoder and if there was, is there a way to reference the skills, items, etc... in the wiki database by game id?

- As you might have figured - I can not help you with your question. Sorry. —Kvothe (talk) 11:49, 11 November 2022 (UTC)
- Such a thing won't be possible (or is impractical) using pure wikicode.
- Using JS it's possible; if you look at the source of either MediaWiki:ChatLinkSearch.js or Widget:Chat link decoder, you'll see one way that's possible. -Chieftain Alex 15:31, 11 November 2022 (UTC)
