rfa[edit]
That's funny and all, but at least try to keep it constructive a little bit. pling 01:46, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
- Honestly, those were the only things I could think to say about Tanetris that hadn't been summarily addressed by Aqua or Infinite. I don't really see how this format is supposed to gauge community support. The problem here is that a couple people can say "Blah is a good bureaucrat because blah blah" and maybe one person would say "I feel that we would be better off if blah did blah," and then we're done. The facts are there, nothing more to say. It's fine as far as coming to an objective conclusion is concerned, but really, that's not the point of these reconfirmations. We already know the current bureaucrats are perfectly capable of performing bureaucratic functions. What we need to know is whether the GW2W community is by and large comfortable with those bureaucrats continuing to serve. 03:15, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
- I think there's some room for "I agree with the above" because it shows how widely held those reasons are. You'd be reinforcing those views instead of just saying "support" or "oppose" without justification; it just happens to be that the justification was provided by someone else. In normal discussions, that does often happen - someone comes out with a wall of text, others say they agree with it (or point out which parts they agree with), i.e. the consensus reflects that person's wall of text. pling 17:04, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah that was actually pretty hilarious! Though, I also don't what what you are talking about as far as aqua goes as he only commented on pling's RFA. Also, yeah I see agree with above or agree with a specific person scenario happening a lot with AfDs so I think that would be perfectly fine with the Rfa's too. --Lania 19:30, 03 April 2012 (UTC)

Inquiry[edit]
Hi Felix, trying to understand editing rules and unofficial information. This wiki can only be stuff that is actually in game already? There is no room for player coordination information? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Count Mercutio (talk • contribs).
- There is certainly room for player coordination- in fact, we're planning on creating a guild for frequent wiki users. It's more a matter of organization. A wiki is divided into difference namespaces, and articles with no prefix are in the default main namespace. The main namespace is included in searches and will be used for in-game integration, so we need to avoid any unofficial information there. The User: namespace, however, is perfect for coordinating among users, which is why I moved your article to User:Count Mercutio/Unofficial EU RP Server. 06:46, 27 April 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for your help and patience. I know there must be a load of newbies on here tweaking things this weekend. 2.49.173.176 06:55, 27 April 2012 (UTC)
- It will probably get kind of crazy, but we're all excited that the wiki will finally see some use. We've been preparing for this for years. 06:58, 27 April 2012 (UTC)

- My question is, how much information would you like a mouse-over to display? Because it's entirely possible that you could (for instance) transclude the entire infobox for a carrot into a javascript-generated tooltip which would really look quite nice. 02:20, 22 June 2012 (UTC)
- That is a very good question. I'm not sure. I'm trying to get discussion on questions like that discussed on the Project's talk page. --Max 2 09:18, 22 June 2012 (UTC)

Account create[edit]
Hi. I tried to create an account here, but got the following message: "Account creation from this IP address (192.168.104.83) has been blocked by Felix Omni". Is there any way around that? 58.109.159.95 07:43, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
i have the same problem, but with me it also states a name : "ChongpufcppkeclRaminez". never heard of it? what is this about, also the ip stated is not mine?
- I have no interest in an account, but got the same message earlier today when I tried to edit a page. the IP-adress is part of a private netwerk range (192.168.0.0 to 192.168.255.255) and commonly given to single clients by home or company routers. Blocking private ranges is in my opinion not advisable cause it not only blocks the wrongfully user but also many others. It was a short block (24 hours) so no big deal but you might want to review the blocking policy when it comes to private ranges ;P. 192.168.104.83 13:46, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
- looking further into the matter, after posting the above I saw that my autosign with four tildes was displaying the private adress of my client 192.168.104.83. I made preview post on my ip's profile page on nl.wikipedia.org (im active there as an ip-user as well) and it correctly identified me as 195.240.63.18 wich is my external adress. So your 'error' might have to do with a problem in the wiki-software this site is using when it comes to id-ing the right ip adres someone is using. I've sent you a friends request on msn earlier today (rcmxxxxxxxxx@gmail.com (the xxxx's are different but you should be able to id my request this way), so if you want more info bout this, just add me and ask away. 192.168.104.83 14:03, 21 September 2012 (UTC) (same one as above)
- It's a known issue - ANet fucked something up with their servers and it's rerouting some people through that IP. When a vandal bot gets blocked, the mediawiki software autoblocks its IP for a given length of time - when that IP is the shared one ANet is forcing some people through, everyone else is inconvenienced by it.
- They claimed they fixed it over a week ago, but they obviously have not. -Auron 14:06, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
- Thx for the update Auron, not knowing if this means it is fully resolved, but the preview showed my signature with the right ip-adress. 192.168.104.82 10:25, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

Your current IP address is 192.168.104.82, and the block ID is #3798. Since it switches back and forth, I think you probably blocked an interen IP - Yandere 09:21, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

Norn[edit]
The vampire lestat (talk • contribs • logs • block log) - I don't think it was that inappropriate. Considering the section topic, it seemed more... biological than pornographic, other than the first part, at least. Infinitely blocking for vandalism and censoring the revisions seems to be disproportionate, especially without a warning. I'm not sure I want to go down the route of prudish administration (I don't have a problem with profanity, either).
Obviously this particular case isn't much of an issue, but it's the heavyhandedness that concerns me. A few days, sure; for the rest of time? Ehh. pling 18:06, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
(Oh, and I'm saying this here instead of User talk:Dr ishmael because you made the block, and I'm guessing he'll see this anyway. He sees everything.) pling 18:09, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
- "He sees everything."
- >.>
- <.<
- Okay, fine, you've uncovered my secret power. But remember - it means I saw what you did with Ichtaca last weekend.
- Aaaaaaaaaaaanyway, I'm no prude (I don't think), but I do feel we have a duty to censor highly inappropriate content. I know this can be a very touchy and subjective subject, but I felt that the post in question was inappropriate enough to be revision-deleted.
- P.S. I'm sending you a bill for the eyebleach. —Dr Ishmael 19:39, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
- I made an error in assuming that I couldn't view the deleted diffs- on GuildWiki, only bureaucrats had oversight privileges. Also on GuildWiki, we generally reserved oversight for extremely offensive or harmful (viruses, malware) material, so I figured whatever was so bad that it had to be hidden 3 times probably deserved a permanent block, especially from an account with no other contributions. Now that I look, it was just the same thing each time, so I'm going to revise my judgment here. Thanks for bringing this up, Pling- I probably wouldn't have looked at it again otherwise. 20:05, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
- Sounds fine. As Ish said, it's all very subjective, so it's not surprising that we might disagree, or agree with varying degrees of.. agreement... or something.
- Also, Ish, it makes things all the more exciting when you know someone's watching. pling 21:02, 11 February 2013 (UTC)

Jesus Christ indeed[edit]
Should we just delete everything ICBM has uploaded and ban him? It feels a bit harsh, which is why I haven't done it yet, but all he does is upload random images and post random crap on his userpage. —Dr Ishmael 20:37, 20 April 2013 (UTC)
- I don't think he should be banned, but we should look through all his uploaded images and leave him a stern warning. I'll do the warning if you'll do the images. 21:11, 20 April 2013 (UTC)
- I deleted any images that were orphaned, then searched the rest through TinEye. One of them is in PD due to copyright expiration. This one appears to be a custom house mark in the style of this website, but it's not an exact duplicate of any one on that page. This and this don't return any matches in TinEye, so I don't know what to do with them. —Dr Ishmael 23:00, 20 April 2013 (UTC)
- the map is from [2], and as you can see from the dates, they're made in 1957. I forget how long the copyright remains since production, no way to tell if the author is dead. no way to tell the author, delete.
- the dead trees are from [3] which clearly has © All Rights Reserved by Biketommy written on the page. copyvio.

- Depends what others think - Felix disagrees. That was just my opinion, not a decision or anything. pling 16:20, 21 April 2013 (UTC)
- I wasn't completely serious about banning in my OP. I just used the most severe action we could take as a discussion starter. So we can stop talking about banning now, mmmkay? —Dr Ishmael 17:40, 21 April 2013 (UTC)
- I thought we were talking about removing copyright violations, not banning the user. My thinking is that we as administrators should not have to put too much effort into tracking down copyright violations. If a quick tineye or google reverse image search doesn't reveal the source of an unattributed image, that's already more work on our part than it took the user to upload it. But as Pling pointed out, an image does need attribution in order to be compatible with the GFDL. That being said, I would prefer to give users a chance to provide attribution before deleting the images. I believe we implemented a 7-day grace period on GuildWiki. We don't need to codify that per se, but leaving a short talk message saying "Please provide a source for this image or it will be deleted in a few days" isn't too much work. 14:32, 22 April 2013 (UTC)

- Yep, sorry, I didn't make that clear - I agree we should leave the user time to provide attribution/licensing. (Like any other non-obvious deletion candidate, 'a few days' is available to contest it.) pling 15:00, 22 April 2013 (UTC)

Preview Representative[edit]
I'd be interested in doing this in the future, but I don't think I am a good choice for this upcoming living story. I never got around to doing the scarlet playhouse dungeon from the clockwork chaos event, and I heard that almost all of Scarlet's characterization happened inside that dungeon. Therefore, I don't have a frame of reference for how Scarlet has grown, or not, as a character, nor for any events which directly connect to the events of Scarlet's Playhouse. That said, I am avaliable at the time of the preview stream, so if you can't find anyone else, I can do it, and I will watch a youtube playthrough of the dungeon before watching the stream. InRe: ???[edit]
Why was ??? deleted? SarielV 12:45, 5 October 2016 (UTC)
- In the german wiki we had to delete it because it could be created, but after it was created no one could view the site. They were always getting redirected to the index.php. Even though the wiki saved the ??? correctly and didn't interpret it as a parameter to the URL it somehow screws up and users can't see it. This should be the same problem here. A similar problem is with the Agony Infusions, you can't have sites that start with +. --Cloned (talk) 13:17, 5 October 2016 (UTC)

I just realized...[edit]
...clicking on the "Omni" part went here and the "Felix" part goes to your userpage. XD Also forgive me, but I thought nothing but reverts counted as vandalism, especially as the user didn't respond to the comments on their page. Guess I have still much to learn/I'm still a screw up with this sorta stuff. >_< (That and the only time I should use "problem child" is for code...not people. I feel really bad/stupid for that one.) What should I do for next time, just do what Alex did and leave it be or leave a comment on one of your pages? - Doodleplex 20:00, 9 November 2016 (UTC)
- On GuildWiki (and later GWW) we had a policy known as Assume Good Faith, which essentially says that you should always assume another user, whether anonymous or registered, is acting with the intention of improving the wiki unless there's clear and obvious evidence to the contrary. That's the philosophy I apply whenever approaching a dispute- is this user clearly acting with malicious intent? Or are they unfamiliar with wiki standards, or misunderstanding the content, or just not great at communicating? In this case I think we have a user who was getting frustrated that nobody believed them, so they tried to withdraw from the discussion by deleting their talk page comment (and only that comment- complete page blanking would be more justifiably called vandalism). That's not malicious intent, and the overall impact of the dispute is very small (how many people will ever look at that talk page?), so in my judgment there's no need to escalate to disciplinary action. If that user removes the talk page comment again after Alex's message, I might consider a short block to make sure they read his message, but I don't expect it to go any further than that.
- So as far as what you should do next time...
- assume good faith (is there an obvious reason to believe this user is acting maliciously?),
- put yourself in the other party's shoes (why is this user doing what they're doing?),
- consider the impact of the dispute (Will this harm the wiki if I just leave it alone?),
- and be sure to be respectful of other users even if you think they're in the wrong to avoid escalating the situation. And when in doubt, it is always 100% okay to get a second opinion before doing anything at all. - Felix Omni 23:42, 9 November 2016 (UTC)

- Well that seems more like a bug in the template than anything, but okay, point taken. Thanks for pointing it out. - Felix Omni 04:44, 20 June 2017 (UTC)
Your app[edit]
Hey Felix, remember years ago you wrote an app for android phones? I got my hands on an android a month or so ago... anyway if you click on random page it fails to find the link. Ideas? -Chieftain Alex 18:23, 22 July 2017 (UTC)
- SO THE THING ABOUT THE APP IS... I kinda sorta lost the signing key that allows me to publish updates to it. It is effectively dead and I'm a failure. orz - Felix Omni 16:29, 25 July 2017 (UTC)
Hey there[edit]
Thanks for helping out with the dialogue on Vadik Odili. I'm assuming it's an NPC. Making pages from scratch sucks, so if you'd like something to jumpstart that, you can look here to find some links to empty templates you can copy and paste. SarielV 16:39, 5 October 2017 (UTC)
You appear to have mistaken me for someone who actually contributes contentI don't think I've gotten to wherever this guy(?) is in the game yet, so I can't really add anything to the article as of now. - Felix Omni 23:00, 5 October 2017 (UTC)
Picture question[edit]
So I saw the deletion, so now I have a question. If somebody were to say commission me to draw their character, the only way they'd be able to use it here would be if I gave them something that said "free to use wherever you please"? Or is fan art here a no-no? - Doodleplex 20:36, 25 October 2017 (UTC)
- So take this with a grain of salt because I'm not a lawyer, but my understanding is that you'd need to release your art under a license compatible with the wiki's (GPL or similar) or release it into the public domain (or allow the commissioner to do so) in order for it to be uploaded here. If you are willing to do that, then fan art is just fine here. - Felix Omni 20:49, 25 October 2017 (UTC)
- Alright. Do you want to let Kora know that if she wants to use that image that she commissioned that commissioner needs to release such text/verbiage or should I do it? - Doodleplex 20:57, 25 October 2017 (UTC)
- I already communicated that to her via twitter, it's what prompted her reverting to the screenshot image. - Felix Omni 21:03, 25 October 2017 (UTC)
- Okie dokie then. - Doodleplex 21:04, 25 October 2017 (UTC)

- Nice try Inc, but you commented on an weapon picture with the same IP so I know it's you. XD
- It's "anonymity", but eh spelling things properly is totally overated. - Doodleplex 22:22, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
- So when did the talk page notification change from the gigantic orange New Messages banner to a dinky little highlight in your preferences bar? I am not a fan. - Felix Omni 14:33, 26 September 2018 (UTC)
- Back when we got the wiki update that added thanking users and other neat stuff. —Ventriloquist 19:27, 26 September 2018 (UTC)

Arenanet employee pictures[edit]
Thanks for your note about Arenanet employee pictures. I've replaced them with pictures pulled from Guild Chat 73, in the hopes that since this is official Arenanet content, this will be ok for the wiki. Technically, I also didn't replace them on the wiki (being asked not to until the originals are deleted, and I don't know how long that might take), but created new images - so in the meantime nothing links to those old images anymore. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Areliorn (talk • contribs).
- Yep, Guild Chat video screencaps are totally fine! I'll delete the old photos and move the new ones over. - Felix Omni 04:21, 18 December 2018 (UTC)
(Reset indent) I used the LinkedIn image because I'd noticed there were still a number taken from there on other employees pages. Thanks for the note/heads up. Yanaru (talk) 18:44, 17 January 2019 (UTC)
- Yep, no problem! We updated the employee article guidelines a couple months ago to make it clear what is and isn't allowed and haven't done a comprehensive sweep of the existing articles yet, so if you happen to see any other photos that came from social media please do tag them as copyright violations. - Felix Omni 19:20, 17 January 2019 (UTC)
I can say the photo for Cameron Rich was taken from linkedin but he told me it's fine to use (in voice chat) - partial confirmation in a screen in game. He laughed that it was a silly one and that his hair isn't red anymore. If you want I can get explicit permission and screen it from in game/discord/twitter. Though I told him to give me another if he wanted something else and he verbally shrugged. -Yanaru (talk) 01:02, 18 January 2019 (UTC)
- I think verbal permission is good enough, just leave a note on the file's talk page or something. - Felix Omni 16:20, 18 January 2019 (UTC)
