recipes[edit]

I see you've been doing a bit of work on chef crafting pages. If you like, you can use this Excel spreadsheet] where I've already pre-computed the template code for every recipe (using data from the official API) so you can just copy/paste the template. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 03:11, 7 July 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for sharing this with me. I've been working on cleaning up pages from multiple crafting disciplines. In that vein, how does this spreadsheet handle crafted items that come in more than one rarity? For instance, "Mighty Chain Coat (Simple)", Mighty Chain Coat, and "Mighty Chain Coat (Master)"? I looked through the sheet and wasn't able to figure it out. Psycho Robot (talk) 17:05, 7 July 2013 (UTC)
You can tell the difference by the recipe's required rating, column F on the "recipe" worksheet. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 18:36, 7 July 2013 (UTC)

so I maybe went a little crazy today...[edit]

...and posted every single craftable trinket to the wiki. I was only going to do components, but when I got to the platinum and mithril tiers of jewelry, they were full of combined pages (fine/master/rare versions all on the same page) that were screwing up the recipe lists. I was determined to make the lists look sane, which meant splitting all those pages, so I figured I'd just fix ALL the trinkets!

So yeah, those 3 equipment types are done. And I finished the component type too. All that's left are weapons and armor. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 03:27, 17 July 2013 (UTC)

Preview Play Day: 27 September 2013[edit]

There is a Preview Play Day this week, at 9 AM PST on Friday, and we need a representative on fairly short notice (by tomorrow, Wednesday). Also note that we are going to be trying a new approach to documenting the previews- read this for details. If you are available at that time and interested in trying out the new journalistic approach, please go say something over on the talk page ASAP. Thanks! Divinity Council[s] ___[edit]

Is the https://api.guildwars2.com/v1/item_details.json?item_id=5657 api wrong this time? or is there another item with the name "Divinity Councils __"? -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 23:40, 10 December 2013 (UTC)

I would say yes. There is no other item with that name, so I assume its a typo in the api or something. I double triple checked in light of this and all versions of the item in the dungeon vendor shop are indeed spelled without the "s". Psycho Robot (talk) 23:44, 10 December 2013 (UTC)
That's the old version that used to have a Magic Find stat - notice that the "attributes":[] list is empty. It's no longer available in-game, but anyone who had one prior to the MF update still has it. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 00:37, 11 December 2013 (UTC)

Shut up you dinguses. Psycho Robot (talk) 22:04, 11 December 2013 (UTC)
So the other day my buddy and I were in my car in a parking lot and some guy pulled up super close and tried to open his door, and I turned to my buddy and said "Gee, I sure he doesn't... ding us." Felix Omni Signature.png 22:19, 11 December 2013 (UTC)
This one time, when I was leaving work, I get to my car and find this huge SUV parked reeeeeally close next to me. Like, less than a foot between them. And it was on my driver's side - I couldn't get in! I tried crawling over from the passenger side, but it's a Miata - not enough room for the necessary contortions. So I had to put the stick in neutral and PUSH my car out of the parking space so I could get in!
But you wanna know the really crazy thing? It was THEIR driver's side facing mine! SO HOW THE HELL DID THEY GET OUT OF THEIR SUV??? —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 22:32, 11 December 2013 (UTC)
This one time I was in a parking garage underneath the Columbus Courthouse, and I dunno if you're familiar with it but its like the size of a football field and completely underground. It looks like it was tailor made for drug deals, if it weren't for all the police cars parked there, because its the courthouse. Anyways, I was walking to my car after my arraignment and this black bulletproof SUV came speeding down the aisle and parked right next to me. Like they were going recklessly fast for a parking garage, but they didn't hit anything and parked perfectly straight. They must have been like racecar drivers or something, except that they parked way too close to me! There was less than ℓP between us I swear. Then the door opened and a skeleton popped out. Material Promotion Bounds[edit]

I noticed you've been changing lower/upper promotion outputs from 5-12 to 3-10, respectively. I made an attempt at scanning the patchnotes for a confirmation on that change with no avail. Do you have an official source or proof confirming these changes? —Yesod

Its not exactly official, mind you, but there's a detailed spreadsheet by a player named Egg Baron and he did a lot of research into material promotion and he compiled it in a spreadsheet for tracking the profitability of promoting materials, with the intent of using it as a method of converting skill points to gold. He uploaded the spreadsheet here and in it he specifies the range of t6 mats as 3 to 10. I'm not 100% certain that it is accurate, but I felt that it was reliable. Psycho Robot (talk) 20:52, 16 December 2013 (UTC)
The user may have been normalizing the values to facilitate analysis. As of today, the upper-bound has not been capped at 10[1], which raises reasonable doubt that the lower-bound has not been reduced to 3. I have reverted the bound changes on all T6 materials for you, and such should remain so until /conclusive/ sources surface. Thanks for your work.--Yesod (talk) 21:15, 16 December 2013 (UTC)

something else, when you've changed which file you want displayed, and you want to delete the original file that is of the form "{{PAGENAME}}.jpg, rather than typing "gallery = newfile.jpg" it should be "gallery1 = newfile.jpg" (otherwise original image is still linked) - these are different parameter formats. just noticed this while deleting -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 10:10, 1 January 2014 (UTC)

shall I debug your inventory table? -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 19:38, 30 December 2013 (UTC)

I'm a bit disconcerted that you've posted on my talk page without a heavy dose of sarcasm, as i am accustomed to. Still, go ahead. There's one other problem I have that's not obvious. I need to have the subobject definitions switch between being defined by the row template for the table and the infobox, depending if the column is turned off or not. I'm pretty sure it has to be {#ifeq: #var:<column> | true | get info from row template parameters | get info from infobox variables} but I'm not 100% sure if that will work. Psycho Robot (talk) 19:46, 30 December 2013 (UTC)
bluntly, if there isn't a column header, nobody is going to fill in any parameters, so you can let them default to existing variables ({{{parameter input|{{#var:variable fallback}}}}}). which parameters are you concerned about? -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 12:51, 31 December 2013 (UTC)
My only concern was that subobjects wouldn't be fully defined if, for instance, they all had the same level or the same rarity, such that it was defined in the infobox, but not in the template itself. I will try do as you suggested and see if it blows anything up. Psycho Robot (talk) 19:06, 31 December 2013 (UTC)
the infobox and the row template both use item stat lookup, so it'll provide the same variables whether you fill it in in the row or not (gotta have variables as fallback as described above though) -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 19:11, 31 December 2013 (UTC)
Ok thanks. I did encounter an issue however. I wasn't able to find out where "level" was defined as a variable for later use, so I attempted to call it into the template with {{#show:{{PAGENAME}}| ?Has level requirement}}, however it didn't work. What I did was, on Tamini Axe, take the level out of the table and put it in the infobox. At that point, the stat lookup failed. Just that code by itself produces the level requirement as I would expect, but doesn't seem to work in the template. Did I just overlook something? Is level requirement a variable I can call and I just didn't see where it was defined? Psycho Robot (talk) 00:39, 1 January 2014 (UTC)
overlooked as in totally didn't do as I suggested :P (also useful for previewing changes: {{[[User:Chieftain Alex/Templates/Item stat lookup debug]]}} - put it above and below your tables. the stuff above is from the infobox, and below is after its been mangled by the row template) -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 08:45, 1 January 2014 (UTC)
I tried to do as you said, honest I did! I just didn't know what the variables were called. I tried looking in the code at default item parameter to see where there was a {{#vardefine:level|{{{level|}}} or something, but all I saw was it being set as an smw property. So the variables you have listed there are all the ones that I will need to use? Out of curiosity and maybe not making such an ass of myself in the future, where/how are they defined? Psycho Robot (talk) 18:45, 1 January 2014 (UTC)
All #var variables are global - once set, no matter in a template or directly in the page, they remain available for the rest of the current page. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 20:45, 1 January 2014 (UTC)

(Reset indent) yep very interested. pity variables can't be substed huh.-Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 20:03, 14 January 2014 (UTC)

Some guy said he could get it to work with safesubst, but I couldn't. Since you're nosing around, mind giving some input here? I figure its good to get other opinions before I put one or the other on 300ish pages. Psycho Robot (talk) 20:34, 14 January 2014 (UTC)

about those unique karma skins...[edit]

How are you determining that? I'm using gw2db to double-check your results, and they're mostly accurate. However, there are a few things:

TTFN! —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 14:59, 10 April 2014 (UTC)

Hmm, perhaps I should disregard gw2db and use guildhead instead. They show:
  • Both Quetzal Harpoons have the same skin, which is shared with the Aethervolt Spear. [7]
  • Invaders Harpoon does share the karma spear skin.
  • All versions of the 3 legion shields use the unique skins.
  • Hylek Crab Skewer uses the basic spear skin.
Yeah, screw gw2db, I never really liked them anyway. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 15:05, 10 April 2014 (UTC)
What have I always said about GW2DB? They're a bunch of shiftless lazy cowards who couldn't pour shit out of a boot if the instructions were written on the heel. Anyways I corrected where I was wrong (aethervolt spear does indeed have qpoon's skin) and checked the invaders weapons. Yes its true that invaders harpoon does share its skin with the karma spear, but its obvious that its a mistake. Everye other weapon shares its skin with bandit weapons, and there is a bandit harpoon, which the invader's harpoon should use. So if you were thinking of moving karma spear.jpg to invader's harpoon.jpg, I disagree with that. Still, we should have a page for that skin, shouldn't we? What would we call it? Skins Galore[edit]

Thanks for your psychotic bot-like work in presenting skins in a comprehensive way. I saw your recent Reddit post, but even before that, I saw how much prep work you had done before the official announcement of the wardrobe. I've recommended to my guild to use the wiki to figure out where to go (it's now easier to navigate for individual skins than most or all other sites and I expect that will be true for the summary pages before long). Good stuff; it's much appreciated. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 14:58, 17 April 2014 (UTC)

I'm very curious why you chose to link Magister Izzmek. Psycho Robot (talk) 02:03, 18 April 2014 (UTC)
It's not (yet) documented in the wiki, but after successful completion of Escort Magister Izzmek to the site of the second signal beacon, he has a dialogue with the Pact leader that takes for his battle-worn team and makes the final push to the Temple of Melandru. She says something like, "time to take a well-deserved rest" and he says, "much appreciated." – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 02:36, 18 April 2014 (UTC)
Oh, so you're pointing out where I've failed and left things undocumented. You schmuck. Psycho Robot (talk) 02:37, 18 April 2014 (UTC)

Skins Galore redux[edit]

I know you've spent the past months all down-n-dirty in the game compiling your lists of armor skins and whatnot. Well, today the API was updated with skin information! So I'll be able to assist you, in a couple hours, by generating lists of all items that use each skin.

Please note that this does not replace the work you've done! Items purchased from karma vendors (and some non-karma vendors as well) tend not to "discover" themselves properly to the API, so essentially my database will only have information on loot, gemstore, and a couple other non-karma sources. And with our powers combined, we can summon Captain Tyria! Or we can just leave him in his underwater ice cave to rot, whatever you feel like. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 19:05, 18 April 2014 (UTC)

I don't want that hippy anywhere near my Escalade. Psycho Robot (talk) 19:07, 18 April 2014 (UTC)
Alright, I got all the data loaded. Now I need to know what format is easiest for you to digest - I was thinking of a Google spreadsheet, one tab listing all 2994 skins, then 41 more tabs to list out all items in each of the 19 weapon types, 21 armor type/weight combinations, and back items. I wouldn't include all API data, of course, only what's relevant to you and this project. I'm thinking (item type/subtype omitted since they're already used as the worksheet identifiers):
  • Item ID
  • Item name
  • Item level
  • Item rarity
  • Some boolean flags - game types PvE/PvP, account/soul bound, etc.
  • Icon file ID
  • Default skin
You can see the full field list in the MySQL create table statement, let me know if there's anything else you'd want. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 21:33, 18 April 2014 (UTC)
Ishmael took a bat to someone's knees to get them to release it too.--Relyk ~ talk < 22:03, 18 April 2014 (UTC)
If you're looking to make it the easiest possible way to use, then an excel worksheet is the way to go. I can easily transform the worksheet into a copypasta template for whatever purposes I need, like an item variant table row or an infobox. Are you able to record the default upgrade item? Psycho Robot (talk) 23:21, 18 April 2014 (UTC)
Yes. The API gives the upgrade component if it's there.--Relyk ~ talk < 23:34, 18 April 2014 (UTC)
Yep, that's suffix_item_id in the table. I can easily perform a lookup and replace it with the suffix_item_name. And you want Excel? Fine, you get Excel.
On second thought, I think I'll go ahead and dump all the item data, just in case. You can hide/delete the fields you don't need. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 00:28, 19 April 2014 (UTC)

So I decided to take a look and see if there were any duplicate skin names (besides the all-weights helm/shoulders/gloves skins). As expected, there are. All of them armor skins.

You're terrible at this. Get on my level scrub. I just figured out the disambiguation feature for AWB. Is p cool. And last night I did babby's first regex to add set names to ascended armor pages. What can you do? NOTHING USEFUL, THAT'S FOR SURE. Psycho Robot (talk) 21:17, 25 April 2014 (UTC)
Still, snooping at your edits, I'm struck with a question that I hadn't considered before. Should armor pieces like named armor link to the parent armor set (seer/sneakthief/scallywag) or to the subset (jatoro's armor, yakkington's armor, etc.)? Same with Bloodsaw Leather Work Mask and them. On the one hand, if players are skin hunting, it's more useful to be linked to the parent set page, but on the other, its more encyclopedic to go to the subset page, then to the parent set page. HMMMMMMM WHAT DO YOU THINK. Psycho Robot (talk) 21:21, 25 April 2014 (UTC)
bleh much more fun to do half arsed subst stuff. Should we get you a bot account with a bot flag if you're using AWB anyway?
dunno I imagine eventually each armor infobox piece is going to link to the skin with a skin parameter, e.g. Mad King's Crown (light) -> | skin = Seer's Mask. As to the set, I spotted you putting Illustrious (light) somewhere, Mad King's armor (light) was just copying what you were doing. I don't care really, it could go to "Mad King's armor" instead. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 21:28, 25 April 2014 (UTC)
The only reason I'm doing (light) is because all 3 weights are called the same thing (illustrious armor). In the case of mad king's armor, the choices would be set=Mad King's armor (light) or set=Seer armor. As for getting a bot account, I suppose that's a good idea. screeching halt 2: ascended armor boogaloo[edit]

Not all ascended armor uses the Illustrious armor skin, and all in-game sources refer to the armor sets as ascended armor. The only place it is called Illustrious armor is in the skin locker, which changes the name for several other skin sets too. On top of all of this, not all ascended armor uses the Illustrious skin - Wurmslayer's_armor has added particle effects and its own location in the skin locker. I really don't feel like going through and rv.ing all of the link changes your bot made manually, and I would thank you dearly if you could just have your bot undo them. Thrain | contribs 03:58, 26 April 2014 (UTC)

I did realise that wurmslayer armor did was not part of the illustrious set and I do not think that I changed any references where the result implied that wurmslayer and other ascended armor sets were the same set. I'll double check tomorrow however. It was my intent to have illustrious armor be the "crafted" ascended armor page, and to eventually make ascended armor page itself be sort of a disambiguation between wurmslayer and the crafted sets. I redirected ascended armor to illustrious, but I probably should have at least made a simple disambig page saying "ascended armor refers to illustrious armor and wurmslayer armor. Sorry if there was any misunderstanding. Psycho Robot (talk) 04:06, 26 April 2014 (UTC)
I was using wurmslayer armor as an example of why calling Ascended Armor 'Illustrious armor' at all is inaccurate; I wasn't trying to point out any specific editing mistakes. Every mention of any 'ascended armor' set in the game text and other media refers to all of the armor sets as Ascended armor, whereas the ONLY location Illustrious armor is used would be the skin locker. If you want to create a new page & links for the skin like we have in place for Draconic_armor that's fine, but having each set link directly to that instead of the main Ascended armor page would be inaccurate and, in my opinion, a bad idea. Thrain | contribs 04:37, 26 April 2014 (UTC)
Anet does not have a record of being informative, clear and consistent though (I should know, I worked on sorting out the armor on GWW and they even had an armor they had forgot to enable in the game). What they say can change, and definitely will as soon as more ascended sets are added. That doesn't necessarily mean I agree with the name Illustrious armor, but I do think it's important to create some kind of structure/consistency between all our armor pages. If the Ascended armor could refer to both Illustrious (crafted) and Wurmslayer's, this definitely needs to made clear on the Ascended armor page. And, linking to Illustrious armor from Tailor, Leatherworker etc seems very logical since that's what you'll create, not Wurmslayer's. - anja talk 06:34, 26 April 2014 (UTC)
However, no one calls it Illustrious armor in-game yet, nor is that the name of the rarity tier, so it's pretty confusing. It's important to think of how your average player might react to such a change. Vili 点 User talk:Vili 06:44, 26 April 2014 (UTC)
Of course, the average user should always be considered (I mean no irony here, I just couldn't find the right wording..). I'm also thinking of the confusion when they see Illustrious armor in the Wardrobe and search for it and get redirected to Ascended armor without explanation. I'm all for Ascended armor as a page, with explanations! - anja talk 13:57, 26 April 2014 (UTC)
Moving ascended armor to illustrious armor before it was ready was not my best idea, I'll admit, and until such time that I get around to making ascended, illustrious, and wurmslayer armor articles that explain how these pieces of equipment relate to one another, I'm fine leaving ascended armor where it is. I will also double check the edits I made to ensure that no Ascended armor link that could refer to either Illustrious armor or Wurmslayer armor was changed to point to Illustrious armor only. That being said, I disagree with the premise that "ascended armor" is the name for the crafted sets. Ascended armor is armor that is ascended rarity. There are two types: illustrious and wurmslayer. Illustrious armor is crafted by tailors, leatherworkers, and armorsmiths. Wurmslayer armor is found as loot from the great wurm chest. To say that you can craft ascended armor is akin to saying you can craft exotic armor. It's accurate, but its not specific. So when you say that an article for zojja's armor should read "zojja's armor is an ascended armor set", that's right, but its more specific to say that it's an illustrious armor set. Continuing to call them ascended armor sets after anet has selected a discrete name for them will only serve to make documentation unnecessarily confusing. Sure players don't use the name illustrious armor right now, but anet chose that name to represent crafted armor. It's its new name now. Psycho Robot (talk) 21:55, 26 April 2014 (UTC)
I think saying "Zojja's armor is an ascended armor set which uses the Illustrious armor skin" would be more informative. The Illustrious skin is almost the same thing as ascended armor right now, and I think we should make clear that Illustrious is the skin name because the armor item itself is never ever called Illustrious in game. As long as Illustrious is almost the only option for ascended armor, I think we can keep this "old" naming around. Ascended is less confusing than Illustrious when neither of them are what the armor is actually called in game. Once we get another set of Ascended armor (a third, fourth etc) I think that would be a good time to restructute. - anja talk 07:13, 27 April 2014 (UTC)

Can I just ask, what's the purpose of checking the box "do not leave redirect" when you are moving things if you then just add a redirect right after that? - anja talk 15:15, 30 April 2014 (UTC)

He probably left his common.js active, which unticks the "leave redirect" box when it loads the move page. (true he should have turned the .js off, but oh well). The bulk of the information not yet put back in is the cumulative stats of the individual armor sets (i.e. light mortal armor of grenth). Nobody cares about that though. Nobody will ever equip a full set of any of individual temple sets. They all mix and match to get the prefixes that they want. Still I have no problem with reverting till I'm done recreating that trivia on the armor set pages. Oh wait relyk already did it. And yes Alex i heard. There were enough edits in rc to warrant saying just in case. Are we directing people to the skin pages for the galleries, or showing them multiple times? (guessing former) -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 19:21, 2 May 2014 (UTC)
That's what I reckoned. The light mortal armor article's armor set infobox would show skin=aurora. Though I don't expect people to wind up at that article very often anyways - like I said nobody cares about a complete set of any of that armor, its all about mixin' and matchin'. Psycho Robot (talk) 19:29, 2 May 2014 (UTC)
I actually use a full temple armor set (heavy melandru) since I put in a lot of karma for it, so might as well use it. I first used this page a lot when I was money poor, but had some extra karma and needed an exotic armor set, so I could figure out if a single temple was good for me. --JonTheMon (talk) 19:46, 2 May 2014 (UTC)

(I honestly thought it was used on more than one page, pling must have left just after we made it) -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 19:46, 4 May 2014 (UTC)
"like I said nobody cares about a complete set of any of that armor, its all about mixin' and matchin'", you made this claim before and I'm going to tell you that you are very much wrong. I understand why that may seem agreeable, but not everyone is looking explicitly for skins. Players may not want to mix and match, want set that has all the same set or rune, only cost in karma, be part of an achievement such as cultural armor, acquired from a specific vendor, part of a specific theme like mad king, or simply for convenience. All the attributes we can use to group equipment into a set, including being part of a clear skin set.--Relyk ~ talk < 00:26, 3 May 2014 (UTC)
I wasn't saying nobody cares about a complete set of any armor, I was just saying that, as far as temple armor is concerned, because all the sets from all the vendors look the same, it is very unlikely that anyone who cares about stats will buy a full set of any particular temple armor set. People don't mix prefixes like that, and nobody uses magi's. I'm generalizing of course but magi's is probably the least desirable prefix. So the cumulative stat bonuses for a specific set of temple armor is not particularly useful information. Psycho Robot (talk) 00:31, 3 May 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for wonderful info I was on the lookout for this info for my mission. dfdfddfbfddebedd --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 58.23.102.24 (talk).

I'm sorry if I make mistakes sometimes, and do things that don't make sense. It's just that I get excited about contributing and sometimes when I get excited, I tend to overlook the small stuff. I've never been very detail oriented. So when there's something I edit that's wrong or incomplete, it just means that I was more concerned with getting an article up sooner and fixing it up later, rather than waiting until its perfect to put it up!
Really, it's always been about the players. Its a better service to the players to have a rough-around-the-edges article up soon, especially if it's about an update or something that's the flavor of the month. There's time to fact check and refine later. Besides, I think you're forgetting the collaborative nature of the wiki. Players not particularly interested in editing the wiki habitually will chip in for a correction here and there if an article is up, but they'll rarely create an article when one isn't there. Plus, they can't create articles as an IP.
Still, you raise some good points and I can see how, sometimes, in my excitement, I let go of good judgement and act rashly. Sometimes I feel pressure, like I think to myself "If I choose not to save it now, how many people will come looking for this info, then leave disappointed? Would those people rather be confronted with a sloppy article than nothing at all?" I know that an article full of misinformation is better than no article at all, and sometimes the status quo is better than change for change's sake, but I feel that my edits, though lacking at times, are not quite that bad.
I hope that you can understand my position and the explanation for why I do the things that I do. If you have any additional feedback, please don't hesitate to leave a message on my talk page. kjkkjnjkkinikk Psycho Robot (talk) 18:29, 4 May 2014 (UTC)

I reckon that the bots are editing your page because there were a high number (3) links to goo gle spreadsheets. I've sabotaged/edited the links such that they're still there, but hidden in the html and not visible. AbuseFilter should now match that exact pattern of "i like your blog" also. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 12:33, 6 May 2014 (UTC)

Archive your talk page or I will lol. Apparently you have 58 external links on your userpage... Also, you have your own AbuseFilter now. >< -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 11:41, 7 May 2014 (UTC)

Removing bug reports[edit]

There's a series of bugged trinkets that drop from boss chests. Their stats do not match those of a level 80 item, as level 80 items have 3-attribute stats, and items of different rarities with the same name generally have the same statcobination. You deleted the anomaly report. It may or may not be a bug, but it is an anomaly as it's detached from the clear standard most GW2 items follo. Do not delete anomaly reports until either the bug is fixed or ANet states it's working as intended, in which case the anomaly report becomes just a note, but also stays, as its still anomalous and non-standard and players must be informed of that. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 15:28, 12 September 2014 (UTC)

I'm afraid our ol' pal Psycho has retired from the wiki, at least for now; so I wouldn't expect an answer. There's a very thin line between bugs and anomalies, I'd categorize those in anomalies as we're not sure if this was intended or not. --Ventriloquist 15:34, 12 September 2014 (UTC)
Since it's consistent across all of the world boss trinkets, it appears to be intended, thus anomaly would be the correct notation. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 15:36, 12 September 2014 (UTC)
Yeah, my intention was anomaly. I'm still waiting for a response in the official forums about these items, as they seem to serve no purpose other than causing player frustration as there doesn't seem to be something like a recipe to upgrade them to the exotic version or anything like that. But the post got sent down to oblivion, ignored, due to the massive waves of bug reports the subforum is getting lately. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 15:41, 12 September 2014 (UTC)

Token[edit]

yeah that template should have been deleted by now--Relyk ~ talk < 20:51, 17 June 2015 (UTC)

orly cause i was gonna use it in my impending mawdrey rewrite. was it replaced by something else? Psycho Robot (talk) 20:54, 17 June 2015 (UTC)
The {{currency}} template already handles the formatting. A template that simply abbreviates stuff isn't useful. You can copypaste the item name if typing out the full name is too much effort. Also, icons should never be used in prose but rather use a simple wiki link. Icons in text is bad practice. The vendor templates were updated with sections specifically those Geode prices can be pushed to the vendor table :)--Relyk ~ talk < 21:20, 17 June 2015 (UTC)
O neat. One other request. Is it possible to rig up Template:Tp to spit out a simple number such that I can use it in an expresion parser function? Or is there another template to do that? Psycho Robot (talk) 21:39, 17 June 2015 (UTC)
No, the [[Widget:TP prices]] is processed (in Javascript) after the contents of the page are parsed by the server. You can see that data processing from the results of API calls about TP information is beyond the scope of the wiki. We would leave that functionality to other sites. I did poke Poke about adding a running total to Form:Base ingredients query for example.
I added Tier 6 prices to Mawdrey, I think it looks fine although four different vendors takes up some space :/--Relyk ~ talk < 21:56, 17 June 2015 (UTC)
That's a bummer. I guess instead of listing the price I'll just list that it comes from the trading post. Psycho Robot (talk) 22:00, 17 June 2015 (UTC)
The page still needs TP prices too. Could display TP prices in an item table call, but that wastes too much space. Maybe add an override to the recipe list row template to show TP price? It's not show because most crafted items are account bound.--Relyk ~ talk < 22:56, 17 June 2015 (UTC)
I'll finish the page cleanup and afterwards you can take a look and 1. make sure i haven't fucked it all up and 2. see where TP prices could go where it wouldn't look stupid. The issue is that you need to buy 7 plates of meaty food, for example. So how do you show that? x 7? That looks kinda stupid. Psycho Robot (talk) 22:59, 17 June 2015 (UTC)
That's why I had the base ingredients suggestion. You simply do the calculations in the base ingredients query for like Package of Elementally Charged Plant Food and display the total price for each item and quantity.--Relyk ~ talk < 23:19, 17 June 2015 (UTC)
Thanks so much, PR, for clarifying the process for Mawdrey. --Gold Recluse (talk) 05:33, 18 June 2015 (UTC)
Good job. But you really need arrows pointing the other direction in the tables. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 12:11, 18 June 2015 (UTC)

If you are going to remove all the advantages of generating the content dynamically, might as well take advantage of it I guess. I switched to {{ingredient list}} and did some formatting on the minimum table as an example.--Relyk ~ talk < 21:29, 18 June 2015 (UTC)

The reason why I didn't try for generating content dynamically is because I had in mind a very specific way of displaying the information that I didn't think dynamically generated content could manage without creating templates specifically for mawdrey, and why bother with that? I like ingredient list for the materials and I'll switch it over, or you can, depending on who gets to it first. Psycho Robot (talk) 23:08, 18 June 2015 (UTC)
The tables are really recipe trees, like listing all the subingredients. I never figured out a way to put it in a template: User:Relyk/SMW#Recipe tree table. Instead of the bound/unbound section, we'd try using base ingredients somehow. The Geode prices can be output dynamically like I did in the example and limit the output of each price to the first entry. We need a better approach on acquisition, like running a query that produces all the methods of acquisition instead of having to pick and choose acquisition methods. I suspect if we got all that working eventually for pages like Mawdrey, it'll make creating the pages for precursor weapon quests and other items in the future easier. But that's all tangential to actually fixing up the Mawdrey page :P--Relyk ~ talk < 23:39, 18 June 2015 (UTC)
I can see the value in the experimental template you linked, but it begs the question, how deep do you go? I have orichalcum setting listed as an ingredient, but should we list that you can make them using orichalum ingots? And should we list the ingots as being made with ore? And how about the +5 Agony infusion? Do we go all the way back to +1 infusions? In these cases you need to make a judgement call about how much information is really necessary. A player who is crafting mawdrey needs 400 jeweler, so they're going to understand already what's involved with orichalum settings - that they can buy them, or craft them. The same can be said for listing acquisition sources. A player attempting to craft mawdrey will have a good understanding of the game such that they don't need to be told how to acquire thick leather sections or bloodstone dust. Attempting to do so will just clutter the page up, and its already very dense with information. For the fine crafting materials, would you list all the zillion different bags they can come from? All the mobs that drop it? I think you're too focused on how much information you can show, and not how much information is actually needed. Psycho Robot (talk) 00:02, 19 June 2015 (UTC)
You can't assume what the player know as far as crafting because people stop playing and then come back and probably don't remember how they got to 400 jewelry crafting. In addition, you can't choose the method of acquisition because people may choose different methods for acquiring each item. The issue we face isn't about choosing what information is needed or shown, but providing a way to navigate to that information quickly. What information is needed may change as ArenaNet adds and removes those methods. The cool thing about something like an acquisition query is that it's very data-oriented. We can have a link that opens up in a new window, which strips most of the wiki markup, and display all the methods in collapsible tables.
On an unrelated note, we could format the bound/unbound table to show TP prices since that was your main intent. I don't think we need to include bound items because the table is acting like a checklist of items you can buy.--Relyk ~ talk < 00:31, 19 June 2015 (UTC)
Isn't clicking the link of the item in question a sufficient means of conveying the information about how to acquire it? If someone doesn't remember, then they can open up the article to view it. Though if the acquisition list really does open in a separate window then it's not going to be obtrusive so it could be okay. As for the trading post prices, I'm worried that it won't look good because we can't multiply the price itself, so we'd have to do something like i listed above which doesn't look that great. I guess with some snazzy formatting it could work. ()×7, for example Psycho Robot (talk) 00:38, 19 June 2015 (UTC)
That only works if you look at a single item, because you are looking to acquire all the other items in the recipe too. Or all the items required for the a certain quest. Moving to individual pages for each item you need gets exhausting, where the recipe tree saves us a lot of time. That's why we also need a checklist of those base materials. It's the base materials where we want to look up acquisition quickly so people can go through and check how to acquire each item. We could have the widget provide a quantity parameter to calculate the total cost and put the individual cost in parentheses. You'd have to ask ishmael or poke.--Relyk ~ talk < 00:58, 19 June 2015 (UTC)
Did you want to post the updated guide on reddit? It might get overlooked right now :P--Relyk ~ talk < 01:00, 19 June 2015 (UTC)
Maybe in a bit. In the mean time, I've run into an issue. How do I make Template:ingredient list work with +5 Agony Infusion? Psycho Robot (talk) 03:49, 19 June 2015 (UTC)
Sup. 5 Agony Infusion redirects to +5 Agony Infusion.

Hey, just a heads-up, I've removed your bot's bot flag, as you've been gone 5 years now and it just seems like bad security practice to leave an unused account that can hide from RC.
