User:Mutenomic/Leveling Guide

From Guild Wars 2 Wiki
Jump to navigationJump to search

This guide is intended for new players who want to level. This guide assumes that you are a F2P player and you do not have any Tomes of Knowledge and any other buffs. I will also talk about other things that will help you during your leveling journey.

Welcome To Tyria![edit]

There are 9 professions (actually 8, as F2P players do not have access to the Revenant):

Also 5 races, which are the Charr, Norn, Asura, Human, and Sylvari.

For more information on builds, please check out this link.

Main Sources of XP[edit]

The main source of XP is most likely Dynamic Events. Dynamic events can trigger in a specific area. This mechanic is to promote cooperation, not competition. There is no "kill stealing" in Guild Wars 2, loot is given to any player who participates in an event, based on their contribution level. Same thing with mob loot. They give EXP, money, and karma when completed. This is something you should do when you encounter one, so remember to do every event you find. Group Events are meant for a group. A B2P player can announce a group event, utilizing the /map chat and the mentor tag, this will be harder for a F2P player.

Another source of XP that I should mention are Renown Hearts. Renown Hearts are tasks given by an NPC, similar to quests. It will award EXP, some money, and karma. They are identified by this symbol (Renown Heart empty (map icon).png), or Complete heart (map icon).png if completed.

So, which one should I prioritize first?[edit]

A rule to remember is to always prioritize Dynamic Events. Some of them contribute to a Renown Heart. You can do a nearby event first, then go back to the renown heart. You cannot go back to an event that was recently finished.

Best zones for leveling[edit]

1-15[edit]

Do your race's starting zone, which are Plains of Ashford for Charrs, Metrica Province for Asuras, Queensdale for Humans, Wayfarer Foothills for Norns, and Caledon Forest for Sylvari.

15-25[edit]

There will always be a 15-25 area after your starting area, but I like Kessex Hills and Snowden Drifts the most.

25-30[edit]

Some players will visit Gendarran Fields, but I would recommend Lornar's Pass, from the entrance near Lornar's Waypoint [&BLQAAAA=].

30-40[edit]

Leave Lornar's Pass, and go to the Asura Gate at Rurikton, Divinity's Reach. You will find yourself in Fields of Ruins, my choice for 30-40.

40-50[edit]

Dredgehaunt Cliffs or Blazeridge Steppes. There is this vista in Dredgehaunt Cliffs, you need to complete a Jumping Puzzle to reach it, but reachable with a springer. You may ask a Mesmer friend with a Springer to port you up there. Be sure to leave a tip.

50-60[edit]

Iron Marches or Timberline Falls. By the way, did you realize that I am recommending Norn and Charr zones now? The Shiverpeaks and Ascalon are two of my favorite regions, as they have many maps.

60-70[edit]

I like Fireheart Rise more than Mount Maelstrom, but those two are excellent choices.

70-80[edit]

Frostgorge Sound, obviously.

Useful websites[edit]

Final Notes[edit]

I will add more information soon. I know that this guide is highly opinionated, so please do not hesitate to add more information. Also note that this guide is meant for F2P players and I assume that you don't have any buffs or Tomes of Knowledge. If you can format this guide better or make it look longer, please do add more suggestions, I am open to critics and more ideas. This is meant to shape the new and young players who will forge the new generation of Guild Wars 2 and will keep the game strong.

Extra: Should I buy an expansion?[edit]

This is something that I would recommend to every player. You will get a level 80 boost, don't use it, because leveling is meant to help you learn your class and adapt. You will also get access to /map chat, mounts, gliders and many more zones. Please do buy an expansion, it will make everyone proud.
