Walkthrough[edit]
The entrance to the city is at the Ancient Royal Docks point of interest.
- Entering Fahranur
You will be greeted by a group of iboga soon after entering the instance, but luckily Canach, Rytlock and Spearmarshal Zaeim show up to help you take them down. Make your way past more mobs to the entrance to Fahranur, where you will find yourself knocked back by an enormous bell dropping into a ditch in front of you. Use your raptor to hop across before it drops again, and pull the chains nearby to disable it so your allies may cross safely. After disabling the third bell, a Mordant Crescent Arbiter will attack you; he will be invulnerable to damage until the Awakened Vessels powering his shield are dead.
Once the Arbiter is dead, make your way through the city; there will be plenty of mobs along the way, but they can be skipped. Eventually you will reach a bone wall surrounded by Inquest corpses; as Canach begins setting up the bomb to take down the wall, you will be assaulted first by groups of Awakened Inquest, then by a Champion Awakened Abomination. At around 10% health, the ceiling collapses, crushing the Abomination. Braham and Rox will join your party.
Destroy the Inquest Power Conduits powering the two Asura Gates in the next room, then mop up the remaining Inquest mobs. Although these drop Static Conduits they cannot be used in the puzzle in the next section.
The next area is a pressure plate puzzle. Step on one of the plates to alert your allies to their presence, and the team will take a plate each. Unfortunately, there are two plates left over. Head west to find two Boulders and several Branded Earth Elementals who will drop Branded Crystals on death. Drop one of these bundles on each of the two remaining pressure plates; the flame wall in front of you will dissipate to reveal a final, larger pressure plate. This one will require two bundles.
When the puzzle is solved, the fire wall to the south will disappear and you will gain access to the room beyond, where you will be assaulted by another group of Awakened Inquest. Head east and a nearby console will replay a recording of Taimi being forced to open up the holographic wall blocking your progress and hinting at the correct protocol: interact with the console, select "Cross the wires", then select "Press the button".
- Boss Fight
After defeating the mobs in the final room, talk to Taimi, who is trapped inside a crazed Scruffy 2.0. Scruffy will turn hostile; defeat him to complete the instance.
At 75% and 25%, he will become invulnerable and spawn two (at 75%) or four (at 25%) Static Storms, orbs of electricity which will slowly circle the platform and pull you towards them if you get too close. These must be destroyed to make Scruffy vulnerable again; jump across the platforms towards the Asura Gates lining the walls of the room and destroy the Inquest Power Conduits to spawn a Static Conduit bundle, which grant the following skills:
# | Skill | Description | ||
---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Throw Static Conduit | 1 | Throw the orb and dissipate any static storms in the target area. | |
2 | Detonate Static Conduit | ¾ | Tear apart the orb and dissipate any static storms in an area around you. |
At 5%, Scruffy will enter his Rapid Ammunition Discharge protocol phase, in which he will spam the platform with AoE and spawn four more Static Storms. This phase will end on its own, at which point Scruffy will be defeated and the mission will be over. The instance will remain open and all mobs will despawn, allowing you to backtrack for the sake of achievement hunting. However, loading in at the checkpoint at the beginning of the Scruffy fight will cause the holographic wall to reappear, preventing backtracking through the mission.

- Scruffy can't be damaged during this phase; just survive without being downed or leaving the platform until the phase ends.
- If you fail the achievement, exit the instance and re-enter; you will be returned directly to the start of the fight against Scruffy. However, loading in at this checkpoint will cause the holographic wall to reappear, preventing backtracking through the mission for That Belongs in a Museum.
- Standing at the edge of the platform or mounting up on a Skyscale makes it easier to survive. Mounting on a Skyscale and ascending vertically will make you lose the achievement qualification.
- Achievement qualification may be tracked via the Qualify for Stand Your Ground effect, which will appear as Scruffy begins his Rapid Ammunition Discharge protocol.

Dialogue[edit]
- Outside the instance
- Spearmarshal Zaeim: The entrance is just behind me. Go on ahead—I'll find Canach and Rytlock and we'll catch up with you.
- I'm going in. See you inside.
- There's something I need to take care of first.
- Shortly after encountering the ibogas
- Canach: Looks like you could use some help, Commander.
- <Character name>: Canach!
- Approaching the cliffs overlooking Fahranur
- Spearmarshal Zaeim: There she is, across the water. Fahranur, the First City. This is as close as I've ever dared come.
- Rytlock Brimstone: Looks like it's seen better days.
- Spearmarshal Zaeim: That city is home to centuries of my people's history. Without it, Elona would be nothing.
- Spearmarshal Zaeim: Fahranur was home to the seat of the Primeval Dynasty. The shining quintessence of Elonian life.
- Spearmarshal Zaeim: But then came the ravage of the scarab plague—and the end of the Primeval kings.
- Approaching the door to Fahranur
- Canach: Gate's closed. I could blow it—
- Canach: Never mind.
- Awakened Canid: Ha-ha! You dared to defy our glorious leader—now you suffer the consequences.
- Spotting a mounted Awakened
- Rytlock Brimstone: Up ahead—another one of Joko's rotbags. We should follow it.
- Rytlock Brimstone: Hey, "tour guide," anything else about these cursed lands we should know about before we go rushing in?
- Spearmarshal Zaeim: Well, this is where Spearmarshal Kormir inadvertently awoke the fallen god Abaddon.
- Rytlock Brimstone: Fighting one fallen god was enough for a lifetime. Be careful what you touch.
- Using the Diving Goggles above the Eternal Reservoir
- Canach: Why can't you ever be spontaneous like that?
- Rytlock Brimstone: (growl)
- Approaching the Bell trap
- Spearmarshal Zaeim: Look out!
- Spearmarshal Zaeim: I recall childhood tales about a series of trials required to enter this place. It appears those stories were true.
- Canach: Perhaps we should double back outside to look for another way in.
- <Character name>: No time. Our raptors should be able to make this jump.
- Canach: I dunno, I think I see quite a few raptor bones down there alongside the others.
- Spearmarshal Zaeim: I'll go first, to make certain it's safe.
- <Character name>: No. Taimi is my responsibility. I'll take the lead.
- Pulling the first lever
- <Character name>: That should make things a little easier. Come on across.
- Pulling the second lever
- <Character name>: That's two down.
- Pulling the third lever
- <Character name>: That should do the trick.
- Canach: It did a trick, all right.
- Spearmarshal Zaeim: Look out!
- Mordant Crescent Arbiter: Your journey ends here.
- After defeating the Mordant Crescent Arbiter
- Canach: Commander, over here. Looks like Taimi's hair bow.
- Spearmarshal Zaeim: Your young friend is ingenious.
- Rytlock Brimstone: Don't tell her that.
- Rytlock Brimstone: Zaeim, you said something about a scarab plague...
- Spearmarshal Zaeim: Yes. The stories of the real plague are horrifying. Scarabs bursting out of flesh, devouring people from within.
- Spearmarshal Zaeim: Now, Joko's army uses dark magic that resembles the scarab plague to strike fear in his enemies.
- Rytlock Brimstone: That's just plain evil. We're lucky he doesn't have the real thing.
- <Character name>: But he does have Taimi.
- Interacting with the Destroyed Statue and Plaque
- Destroyed Statue: What was once a majestic statue has been reduced to little more than two legs and a pile of rubble.
- I wonder why this was damaged while the plaque was left intact.
- Plaque: Blessed by the Five is Dahlah, daughter to the king.
May her life be full of love, contentment, and good health.
May the newest royal daughters rule Fahranur and lead us to a brighter future. - Interesting.
- Upon first spotting the Branded
- Canach: Great. Now there are Awakened AND Branded. Lovely.
- Spearmarshal Zaeim: Fortunately, each seems to be distracting the other.
- Finding the dead asura bodies
- Rytlock Brimstone: These bodies. They're asura. At least Taimi's not among them.
- Canach: They're also Inquest, from the look of it.
- Spearmarshal Zaeim: Strange. As far as I knew, the asura were all expelled or killed when Joko claimed these lands.
- Rytlock Brimstone: Never a good sign when the Inquest are around. Dead OR alive.
- <Character name>: We're penned in. We've got to find a way past this wall.
- Canach: Good thing I didn't waste these explosives on the gate.
- Rytlock Brimstone: Be quick about it. These things were creepy enough BEFORE they started moving.
- Interacting with the bodies
- Dead Asura: This asura wears the typical red and black gear of the Inquest. The uniquely pungent aroma of rotting flesh fills the cavernous area.
- Inquest or not. Joko will pay for this.
- While Canach setting up the explosives
- Rytlock Brimstone: Anytime now...
- Canach: This is not the sort of task one rushes.
- Spearmarshal Zaeim: Hurry, please. We can't hold them off forever!
- Canach: Yes, by all means, let's hurry the explosives expert. What could possibly go wrong?
- Rytlock Brimstone: How much longer?
- Canach: Depends—do you want to survive the blast?
- Upon the arrival of the Awakened Abomination
- Awakened Abomination: (screech)
- Rytlock Brimstone: That doesn't sound like a small, dead, rodent-y thing.
- If asura:
- <Character name>: Hey!
- Canach: Great. Now I have to start over.
- <Character name>: Just focus on setting those explosives!
- Awakened Abomination: (roar)
- Canach: Can you shut that thing up? It really makes it hard to concentrate.
- After defeating the Champion Awakened Abomination (in-game cut scene)
- Canach: Cover your ears!
- Rytlock Brimstone: Canach... What did you do...?!
- Familiar Voice: Watch your heads!
- After the cut scene
- <Character name>: Braham?
- Rox: Commander?
- Braham Eirsson: Of course. Why am I not surprised.
- Rytlock Brimstone: How did you get here?
- Rox: We chased whatever these things are through some portals. Trying to see where they're coming from.
- Canach: Wait— What portals?
- Rox: Isn't that why you're here? Portals have started popping up all over Tyria and spitting out these...things.
- Rytlock Brimstone: Joko's forces are in Tyria?
- Rox: If these shambling rot-piles are his, then yeah— Tyria's teeming with them. But if you're not here for the portals...
- Rytlock Brimstone: We're here to rescue Taimi from Joko.
- Braham Eirsson: You let this Joko character take Taimi?!
- Spearmarshal Zaeim: No one "lets" Joko do anything. He takes what he wants.
- Rox: Who's this guy?
- Spearmarshal Zaeim: I am Zaeim, Spearmarshal of the Sunspears.
- Braham Eirsson: So first you put Jormag to sleep with that blasted machine—
- Rytlock Brimstone: Enough!
- <Character name>: Taimi's in danger. Anyone who wants to save her can come with me.
- Encounter the Asura gates
- Braham Eirsson: More Awakened!
- Asura Console: (static) feeling okay? Wait, why are you—(static)
- Braham Eirsson: Whatever you just did, it turned off the gate. Do it again.
- Asura Console: Need (static) this location! Risen (static) swarming (static) the gate (static)
- Rox:There's so many!
- Asura Console: They (static) won't stop! (static) too many of them (static)
- Spearmarshal Zaeim: Joko creates a lot of corpses.
- Repeating dialog from the consoles
- Requesting backup... (static)
- (static) *Asuran screaming* (static)
- They (static) all of a sudden... (static)
- (static) ...high command! (static)
- After clearing the area
- Canach: Excuse me, but... Does this strike anyone as an implausible amount of asura technology to find in an ancient human city?
- Rox: It looks like the tech from Rata Novus. Maybe this was one of Zinn's labs.
- Canach: That explains why they Inquest are here. They have a thing for that guy.
- <Character name>: Or else they just got caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.
- Upon reaching the Wall of Flame
- Rox: What's this? These plates in the ground...
- Spearmarshal Zaeim: More trials.
- Standing on a pressure plate
- Rytlock Brimstone: We can all help with this.
- Tossing a Branded Crystal through the wall of fire
- Rytlock Brimstone: Hot enough to reduce just about anything to ash.
- Standing on the pressure plate alone
- Braham Eirsson: Think you're gonna need more weight.
- Having 2 things on the large pressure plate
- Rox: Flames are gone!
- Stepping off the large pressure plate leaving one thing on there
- Braham Eirsson: Guess not—the wall of fire's back!
- After getting past the second fire wall
- Canach: Nicely done, Commander.
- Exploring south
- Spearmarshal Zaeim: The fabled Hall of Hadoon... It collapsed soon after the fall of Abaddon.
- Canach: We really need to stop killing gods.
- Walking west
- Rytlock Brimstone: Dead end.
- Upon finding the Rata Novan Teriminal
- Spearmarshal Zaeim: What...is that?
- Rox: Inquest trick?
- Asura Console: Replaying security log.
- Taimi: I won't open it. I'd rather die than help you!
- Mysterious Voice: If you prefer, you can die and help me. The order doesn't matter.
- Taimi: Cross those two wires...and hit that button.
- Asura Console: Replay complete.
- Braham Eirsson: (furious roar)
- Interacting with the Rata Novan Terminal
- Rata Novan Terminal: You see two uncrossed wires and a large button.
- Press the button. (Applies knockback)
- Cross the wires.
- The wires are now crossed.
- Uncross the wires. (previous dialogue)
- Press the button.
- Slam your hand into the console. (Applies knockback and resets)
- Replay the last recorded message.
- Step away from the console.
- Slam your hand into the console. (Applies knockback)
- Replay the last recorded message.
- Step away from the console.
- After successfully tinkering with the terminal
- <Character name>: Lets go.
- Rox: Uh-oh...
- Spearmarshal Zaeim: Well, that's not good.
- Canach: What in the name of the Tree is this?
- Rytlock Brimstone: It's an infestation!
- Spearmarshal Zaeim: No... It's an army. Joko is calling them forth.
- Upon the arrival of Awakened reinforcements
- Rytlock Brimstone: More dead things!
- Rox: We'll guard your flank, Commander. You get Taimi.
- Upon reaching Taimi
- Taimi: Commander? Commander, the Awakened made me open the gate!
- Braham Eirsson: I'm here, Taimi, just hold on!
- Taimi: Braham?!
- After defeating the Awakened
- Awakened Asura: The crimes of the Tyrian commander are an act of war against the Elonian people.
- Awakened Asura: Therefore, the kingdom of Elona will respond in kind.
- Awakened Asura: His majesty, Palawa Joko, regrets you will not survive to see your homeland burn and your people enslaved...
- Awakened Asura: ...but he offers this gesture in compensation.
- Scruffy's Warning System: Oxygen—purge—protocol—initiated.
- Taimi: Commander? None of my controls in here are responding.
- Scruffy's Warning System: Internal—oxygen—levels—at—ninety—five—percent.
- Taimi: Okay... Okay, Taimi, work the problem...
- Scruffy's Warning System: Internal—oxygen—levels—at—ninety—percent.
- Braham Eirsson: We have to smash that thing open! He's gonna suffocate her in there!
- Taimi: Be careful. I've given Scruffy a few...upgrades.
- Scruffy's Warning System: Internal—oxygen—levels—at—eighty—five—percent.
- While fighting Scruffy
- Taimi: Miniature electrical storms. I'm sorry... You'll have to short-circuit them! (When Scruffy is at 75%)
- Scruffy's Warning System: Internal—oxygen—levels—at—eighty—percent.
- Taimi: Oh no, oh no... Get a GRIP, Taimi—control your breathing...
- Taimi: Starting to wish...I hadn't made Scruffy so good.
- Scruffy's Warning System: Internal—oxygen—levels—at—seventy—percent.
- Taimi: Seventy percent? Why did it skip seventy-five? That's not fair!
- Scruffy's Warning System: Internal—oxygen—levels—at—sixty—percent. (When Scruffy is at 40%)
- Taimi: Oh no—it's speeding up!
- Braham Eirsson: Get her out of that thing!
- Taimi: Getting kind of...hard to breathe in here... Find more pods to smash...! (When Scruffy is at 25%)
- Scruffy's Warning System: Internal—oxygen—levels—at—fifty—percent.
- Taimi: Okay—think, THINK... Uh... Okay, he'll run out of juice...eventually...after the auxiliary power runs out...
- Taimi: Getting...light...headed... (When Scruffy is at 5%)
- Scruffy's Warning System: Internal—oxygen—levels—at—forty—percent.
- Taimi: Forty percent... Can't... see straight... Wait—something's happening...
- Scruffy's Warning System: Weapon—charge—level—critical. Shield—charge—level—critical.
- Taimi: No. Oh, no! Look out!
- Scruffy's Warning System: Initiating—rapid—ammunition—discharge—protocol.
- Taimi: I'm so sorry!
- Taimi: Help! Please
- Taimi: I can't breathe!
- Taimi: I don't want to die like this!
- Upon grabbing a Static Discharge
- <Character name>: This should do the trick.
- If missing with a Static Discharge attack
- Taimi: You have to hit the storms! The round, glowy things circling Scruffy!
- <Character name>: I'm trying! They're moving too fast!
- Taimi: Why am I so good at my job?!
- When all the static storms are gone
- Taimi: Scruffy's shields are down! Hit him hard!
- While disabling the gates
- Braham Eirsson: Only a few gates left!
- Braham Eirsson: Two more gates to go!
- Braham Eirsson: You take care of the other gates. I can handle the big one!
- Braham Eirsson: Last gate! Take it down!
- <Character name>: That's the last one!
- After Scruffy's barrage
- Scruffy's Warning System: Ammunition—banks—depleted. Engaging—emergency—system's—catastrophic—shutdown—protocols.
- <Character name>: Taimi! Taimi, are you okay?
- Braham Eirsson: Taimi! Say something!
- Taimi: Something...
- If asura:
- <Character name>: Oh, thank the Alchemy.
- If charr:
- <Character name>: She's okay.
- If human:
- <Character name>: Oh, thank goodness!
- If sylvari:
- <Character name>: There you are.
- If norn:
- <Character name>: Thank the spirits.
- Taimi: Never been so...happy to...smell dead people...
- Braham Eirsson: Well, we've stopped that. For the moment.
- Rox: At least Joko won't be getting any more Awakened from here.
- <Character name>: I doubt this was his only source for soldiers. He'll regroup. But we've put a serious dent in his plans.
- Canach: The big question is, what else is he planning?
- <Character name>: Taimi?
- Taimi: Experiments... He has them doing experiments.
- Braham Eirsson: What kind of experiments?
- Taimi: I don't know. Bugs. Something with bugs.
- Rox: We came through another Inquest lab. Do you think it's here in Elona?
- Canach: If it is, we'll find it.
- Speaking with Taimi
- Taimi: Thank you again for coming for me, Commander. I told Joko we weren't afraid of him.
- Are you sure there's nothing else you can remember?
- <Character name>: How are you feeling, Taimi? I know it's still early, but is there anything else you can tell us about what you saw?
- Taimi: I've been better. It's not every day you're almost asphyxiated by your own golem. But I'll live.
- Taimi: With Inquest being part of Joko's Awakened army, there's no telling what kind of crazy information he has access to.
- Braham Eirsson: Whatever he's planning, we'll be ready for it.
- Taimi: It's good to have you back, Braham.
- I found your ribbon.
- Taimi: Aw, thank you, Commander. I was hoping you would get the hint. Didn't think I'd get the hint back though. (Awards the "You Left This" Achievement)
- You're safe now, Taimi.
- Speaking with Rox
- Rox: Glad to see you, Commander. I wish it was under happier circumstances.
- Rox: I've been missing my old friends since Garm retired.
- <Character name>: I'd be under a dead Abomination and a pile of rubble if it weren't for you two. Especially you, Braham.
- Braham Eirsson: Instincts kicked in.
- Rox: Hey, it's not like you haven't saved Braham's neck a time or two. Right, Braham?
- Braham Eirsson: (grunt)
- Rox: Well, I gave it a shot.
- Speaking with Braham
- Braham Eirsson: Rox and I were in Hoelbrak trying to figure out how to get to Jormag , since you put him to sleep under a mountain of ice.
- Rox: These portals just started opening up all around the city. Then those..."Awaked," you call them? ...Started pouring out.
- Rox: These were different from normal asura gates. They just seemed to appear out of nowhere.
- Canach: Taimi, you mentioned some advancements in asura gate technology?
- Taimi: Yeah, Zinn and the Rata Novans were working on it.
- Braham Eirsson: And now the Inquest AND Joko have it. Nothing more dangerous than bad guys with new toys.
- Speaking with Rytlock
- Rytlock Brimstone: Joko's got no idea what he's starting.
- Rytlock Brimstone: Conquering humans is one thing. But there's a world of hurt awaiting him in Ascalon.
- Canach: We have to focus on stopping his attack from here in Elona.
- Rytlock Brimstone: I'll get in touch with Logan. Tell him to mobilize the Pact. Let him know we're down here doing our part.
- Speaking with Canach
- Canach: I have to admit, Joko's plan is inspired. Using asura gates to go behind enemy lines? Insidious, but intelligent.
- Canach: My only question is how did Joko learn these gates even existed?
- Rytlock Brimstone: One Inquest scientist wanders too far from home. Ambushed by an Awakened horde. Dragged in front of Joko.
- Rytlock Brimstone: Joko tortures him, kill him, Awakens him, then picks around in the poor dead guy's brain until he finds what he wants.
- Canach: Yes, that would probably do it.
- Speaking with Zaeim
- <Character name>: With Joko attacking Tyria, it seems your revolution has become an international affair.
- Spearmarshal Zaeim: I fear for your people, Commander. I know too well the suffering Joko brings to those under his reign.
- Spearmarshal Zaeim: I pledge to you that the Sunspears will do everything in our power to prevent your Tyrians from knowing that mistery.
- <Character name>: And I pledge we will end his reign here in Elona. He poses a threat too great to ignore.
- Spearmarshal Zaeim: Here's to an alliance between our people. May our enemies tremble in fear.
- <Character name>: Something like that.
