Icon[edit]

The recharge icon which has been used to provide recharge information in the demo doesn't look much like the arrow we're using on the wiki. While I've not looked really closely the current icon is something like an X over a transparent circle. Does the wiki community want to use icons which match the game? I can make a tango icon to replace the current recharge one if there is support for it. -- aspectacle User Aspectacle.png 00:27, 24 August 2011 (UTC)

It would be great to have recognizable tangos for skill parameters, so I'd say yes. - Infinite - talk 00:29, 24 August 2011 (UTC)

I can't see why I'd disagree. Venom20 User Venom20-icon-0602-sm-black.png 04:07, 24 August 2011 (UTC)
And six months later (!) I've uploaded a new version which looks like the game recharge icon. User Aspectacle Recharge.png Any objections to the replacement going ahead? -- aspectacle User Aspectacle.png 12:24, 26 February 2012 (UTC)
Looks great to me (somewhat unsurprisingly). Erasculio 12:48, 26 February 2012 (UTC)
In my opinion it could look sleeker and more stylized, instead of being so dominantly present. Just the arrow, but squarish instead of GWWs pointy version. That said, I don't object to introduction. - Infinite - talk 12:52, 26 February 2012 (UTC)
The problem with doing just the arrow is that the icon seen in-game is a big and noticeable circle. While maybe the idea of an arrow would be enough to make people understand what it's trying to convey, having something more similar to the in-game image would make it easier to recognize at a glance. I was under the impression that the in-game arrow was just an arrow, but I must've seen wrong. Carry on. - Infinite - talk 13:01, 26 February 2012 (UTC)
Would it look better if it's just a smidge brighter yellow? More the color of the old icon. Just a thought, looks good anyway, introduce away. Eerie Moss 13:11, 26 February 2012 (UTC)
Alfa-R bet me to the upload. His looks fine, so I'm happy with the situation. -- aspectacle User Aspectacle.png 16:39, 26 February 2012 (UTC)
oops, didn't even knew this discussion had been taking place. Alfa-R User Alfa-R sig.png 16:50, 26 February 2012 (UTC)

Recharge Reduction Stacking[edit]

I'm curious to know how recharge reduction traits stack. For instance, if I have Fast-Acting Elixirs (-20% elixir recharge) as my engineer's alchemy adept trait and add 10 trait points to my Tools line, granting me 10 ingenuity (-10% tool belt skill recharge), do those two stack together when I use toolbelt 'tossed' elixirs? Using Toss Elixir R (85 second recharge) as an example, I assume it must be one of the following: Non-stacking, takes highest: 85 * 0.8 = 68 Stacking (calculated together): 85 * 0.7 = 59.5 Stacking (calculated separately): 85 * 0.8 * 0.9 = 61.2

Any ideas? 213.104.13.229 18:25, 17 August 2012 (UTC)

GW2 and recharges[edit]

Does anyone else think that GW2 recharges are in general super long and/or durations are really short? There are so many 30+ (even 60+) recharges, and many of the effects only last a couple seconds. It just feels like many skills have an almost negligible effect on a player's performance. I'm curious to know why they chose this sudden shift, especially since GW1 skills have (in general) much shorter recharges and yet are admirably balanced.

For example, I know elites are supposed to be one-shot skills that change the tide of battle, but many (not all) elites in practice don't do a whole lot, when considering the big picture - it may change the battle against one mob, but it has a rather small effect on the war/mission/dynamic event in general.

I mean, just imagine Energy Surge or Word of Healing having the recharge of a dervish Avatar. Or Meteor Shower being elite status. This might just be a mindset left over from GW1 though. Thoughts? Pasta 05:00, 11 October 2012 (UTC)

It's because the game doesn't have a split between PvE and PvP skills. A well-placed Time Warp, Tome of Courage, Battle Standard, etc. makes a world of difference in an sPvP match, but in PvE when you're (usually) running around killing dozens of things and/or burning down a single boss for 15 minutes? Meh. Same thing for most utility skills, as the general trend is for those to be "panic buttons" used only in particular situations (e.g. Arcane Shield). There are some, like Kick on Warriors, that have a short cooldown and so can be used often. But those tend to be fairly weak.
Aside from that, though, you have to keep in mind that combat everywhere is balanced around weapon swapping (kits and attunements for engineers and elementalists). I know it's not exactly right, but you could think of it as "all weapon skills really have half the stated recharge". It's almost always bad combat strategy to sit on the same set of weapon skills, simply because you'll always end up eventually with nothing but the autoattack and maybe 1 other thing available, severely limiting your options. (Not to mention the various bonuses that are only triggered by swapping, or different Sigils, or...) Some weapon sets certainly synergize better than others, though. On the other hand there's no need to wait for energy to recover. GW2 is different from GW1 in countless ways, but if you look at some of the PvE-only skills in Eye of the North, you can see that the team has simply tried to make combat more interesting by introducing skills with powerful effects and longer recharge times, to promote "uniqueness" of combat encounters. I don't blame them for that; it is more interesting IMHO. Mediggo 06:34, 11 October 2012 (UTC)

Stub?[edit]

I would motion for the removal of the stub header on this page. (Leviathan Scourge (talk) 08:49, 4 September 2013 (UTC))

Just remove it if you don't think it's needed :)--Relyk ~ talk < 11:38, 4 September 2013 (UTC)

Missing Trait[edit]

Quick Draw should be on the list of traits that reduce recharge of weapon skills. I would add it but it seems the data is being queried from a list of traits and I'm not sure how to edit that. Gwgroyper (talk) 18:24, 27 January 2024 (UTC)

I've made some ugly hidden changes to the Quick Draw page (smw wizards please advise) but it appears in the list now. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 20:06, 27 January 2024 (UTC)
