- You might want to double-check the numbers, I see an error in the amount of Dragonite Ore. I think having a list like this on the page would be great, but instead of listing *literally everything*, we could just post the time-gated/expensive materials, like the heat stone and spirit wood? —Idris 12:43, 28 August 2019 (UTC)
- Oops, (big) typo for the Dragonite Ore.
- I'm really in two minds as to whether to include everything or, as you suggested, list the big ticket items only. The materials needed for the cooking portions are extremely cheap, but also extremely varied, and can be a (minor) hassle for some to hunt down individually, if they missed something.
- Maybe split the list up? - Ojimaru (talk) 13:11, 28 August 2019 (UTC)
Home Instance Delivery NPCs[edit]
Seimur installs a simple cooking station in your home instance at the start of this collection. After I finished the last task I went to my home instance an NPC Deliveryman (carrying a box) appeared as I entered and started walking to the cooking station. The cooking station contained many items that were not the ones installed by Seimur. As I watched he upgraded the stove that was there to an enhanced version. I would guess that as various parts of the collection are done different parts are delivered and installed. If you want to watch the changes take time to go to a home instance and do so. I am sorry I did not. Separ (talk) 22:19, 28 August 2019 (UTC)
- I visited my home instance after completing most of the racial sections, and I only saw a deliveryman installing something at the end of the human line; the other upgrades were already installed as soon as I walked in. I think they just put him in to make sure you'd see Seimur having a mental breakdown upon witnessing a culinary application for Bloodstone Dust that he didn't think of first. —Idris 22:34, 28 August 2019 (UTC)
Various item collection: only on the character going to 500?[edit]
Do you have to get the items in the field (like varietal herbs) with the character who is advancing to level 500? Or, can another character do it (who is already in the zone)? Daddicus (talk) 00:51, 29 August 2019 (UTC)
- Found part of the answer: you can only talk to the NPCs with the character leveling up. I suspect it's the same with farming nodes. Daddicus (talk) 00:58, 29 August 2019 (UTC)
- According to a recent note, the Cut of Quality Red Meat needed for the charr section apparently only counts when looted by a chef with appropriate ranks. However, that note comes with a dozen other questions, such as, "can a chef character with less than 425 cooking even talk to Vaastas in first place?", and "Does the above restriction apply for the Slab of Poultry Meat?" I also haven't heard any reports regarding non-chefs getting Varietal Herb Seeds during the sylvari section either. So many questions... - Ojimaru (talk) 01:03, 29 August 2019 (UTC)
- The slab of poultry is normal; I got that as soon as one dropped.

- Also, I tested the herb thing on a non-chef character. I gathered every node in Mount Maelstrom, half of them twice, and many in Sparkfly Fen as well. Even one in Orr. No drops. So, I think it's safe to say that only A character going for 500 can get one of the needed drops.
- I think that the sylvari portion for varietal herbs is character based. Picked at least 20 nodes on my other characters since my chef doesn't have much map completion at all. ported to LA and then went to the first mature herb node south of LA and got it. Also you can do the sylvari part first for the garden plot, the guide is in a specific order but I think doing the sylvari section first is a better idea. --Life Infusion «T» 04:35, 29 August 2019 (UTC)
- Also the magma part is definitely character-based. Bringing a different character to that spot with bloodstone bricks and heat stones results in the popup not having a queat update or a map marker.--Life Infusion «T» 01:03, 30 August 2019 (UTC)

Strategy[edit]
So for leveling cooking to 500, does it make more sense to get it to 450 by discovery and actual cooking and then do gourmet training to get the last 50 levels, or to do gourmet training when it becomes available at 425 and then grind out the last 25 levels after this achievement is done?
- My opinion is to do it at the end, until such time as players collectively know how far you can get just by doing the five sequences. I started at 425, and I've gotten four of the chains completed, so I should be at 465. But, I have 477. I suspect because you also get chef XP by making the dishes.
- When I get to the end of the sequences, I'm going to make a note of how high I attained. I'll add that as a note to the page.
- One last thing about my example: I'm not using an item booster. I wanted to see the raw data. Daddicus (talk) 05:16, 30 August 2019 (UTC)
- Turns out you have to get to 450 before you can finish gourmet training, to cook the Filet of Sous-Vide Meat for the sylvari leg. So best bet is to do all the rest of gourmet training except the end of each leg where you get the levels, grind to 450 if you're not already there, cook the Sous-Vide and finish all the parts that reward levels. Tex 77 (talk) 23:02, 30 August 2019 (UTC)
- Every Level after 400 need the same amount of experience, the only thing that make it worth it to craft before doing the achievement, is that the higher the lvl the more recipe become degrade to lower rewarding in experience. see https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Crafting#Crafting_experience —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 82.255.114.180 (talk).
Norn or Sylvari first?[edit]
Life Infusion suggested changing the order, putting the Sylvari sequence before the Norn sequence.
It probably doesn't matter much, but there IS a two-hour (one game day) gap between when you talk to the Norn and when you get the last item.
On the other hand, the Human sequence has a three-day delay (for heat stones), so two hours isn't even noticeable. Daddicus (talk) 05:20, 30 August 2019 (UTC)
- In my opinion, the walkthrough should match the order of the achievement, and there should be a sub-section at the start or end discussing the merits of various different orders. That way we don't have to commit to one specific order that may not be ideal for some players (Compare someone who buys the heat stones off the TP versus someone who waits to craft them.) —Idris 11:21, 30 August 2019 (UTC)
Cooking table only in one home instance?[edit]
I just tried going to the human home, but there was no chef station. (My character leveling up is Asuran.) I haven't checked the other home instances. Can anybody confirm? Daddicus (talk) 05:57, 30 August 2019 (UTC)
- Both the chef station and the garden (I don't have the Black Lion plot, only the chef one) are present in all 5 home instances on my chef character. (Maybe you just couldn't find its location within the human instance? On entering, run forward until you pass the fountain and head up the steps. Turn left and head up another flight of steps, next to the Winterberry Bush if you have one.) On my non-chef, the garden is present but the chef station isn't. —Idris 11:21, 30 August 2019 (UTC)
Last step is wrong[edit]
The last step is oriented towards the Norn, probably because there was a two-hour wait to finish it.
But, there's no LAST step (on the Wiki), which is talking to Seimur Oxbone in your home instance. At least, it is for my Asura character.
Is the step for Asura, Charr, and Sylvari different than for Norn and possibly humans? Daddicus (talk) 05:19, 31 August 2019 (UTC)
- No, that didn't work. He just wants to complain.
- So, where DO we go for the last step? It's not Einar, at least not for my Asura. And, once I left and reentered my home instance, the map symbol is no longer over Seimur's head. Daddicus (talk) 05:25, 31 August 2019 (UTC)
- Never mind. It did work after all. It just didn't say so. So, the last step for my Asura was to talk to Seimur in my home instance.
Base accounts?[edit]
Am I missing something, or is it possible to start (and spend a good deal of time and resources on) this achievement on a base account, but not complete it? There doesn't seem to be any way to get the recipe for cassava flour without an expansion, which means no flatbread for the human section. Usually base accounts are blocked from starting achievements that require expansions. Someone please tell me I'm missing something obvious? 184.19.61.19 05:45, 8 November 2019 (UTC)
- You should be able to buy the Flatbread recipe from Sage during the achievement if you don't have access to HoT; I don't know if he also sells the flour recipe, but it would be a report-worthy oversight if he doesn't. We've added a "you need HoT to complete this" warning to the article for now, but if you could confirm whether Sage sells the flour recipe or not, that'd be helpful! —Idris 11:29, 8 November 2019 (UTC)
- Well, I feel like an idiot (which is a good thing, in this case.) I bought the flatbread recipe from him, and I was SURE that was the only thing he'd offered to sell me -- I just checked, and he was offering me the flour recipe as well. Dunno if I derped, or if I had to buy the bread recipe and then interact with him a second time to get the flour, but either way, I'm back on track! Thanks! I'll change the HoT mention in the article. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 184.19.61.19 (talk).
- Haha, we all have derpy moments! Thanks for bringing it to our attention either way; it's always good to double-check! :) —Idris 17:02, 9 November 2019 (UTC)

500 on secondary character.[edit]
I've got 500 chef on one character. If I also level chef on another character, it appears that I have to do the whole thing all over again. Leastwise I'm being asked to do the fetch quests for each race. Is this necessary to craft lvl 500 on the secondary toon, or can it be skipped? 86.25.107.236 05:08, 25 February 2020 (UTC)
- Without having tested it myself, I'd say you can skip the questline. Recipes are shared accountwide and the questline "only" gives 50 levels. You should be able to get to 500 by just crafting different food that unlocks, although it might be grindy. The only other benefit I can see coming from doing the questline multiple times is that you get access to the chefs station inside your home instance on both characters, since it's unfortunately character bound. If you decide to skip the questline and are able to reach 500, would you be so kind to reply here so I can add a note to the article. Or you can add it yourself, both works. Can 'Hidden' Profession Lvl 425 Chefs use home instance cooking station ?[edit]
If I get a character to the point where it can use the cooking station in the home instance and then add additional crafting disciplines, do I have to switch back to Chef to see/use the crafting station? It would be nice to be able to access a bank in the home instance. Separ (talk) 01:48, 4 October 2020 (UTC)
- I just tested this by deactivating my Chef and (fortunately) the cooking station is still there! So you can get another character to chef level 425+, deactivate chef and go back to its original crafting discipline while still having the cooking station in the home instance. Dialogue formatting[edit]
We have kind of an awkward setup for the dialogue involved in this collection, where a lot of it is mirrored on the individual NPC pages as well as included here. Adding to that, they each may have different transcription errors. It seems like we should pick one or the other location for the dialogue and stick to it, is there any existing precedent for which that should be? (All dialogue here, or all dialogue on the NPC pages?) Heillos (talk) 09:30, 22 August 2022 (UTC)
- It is not that usual but we have started including dialogues on longer collections like this one, Finding Sibaha, and most longer EoD collections. To be fair I kinda prefer this to just linking to the NPCs, as otherwise the dialogue is really scattered around. ~Sime 15:03, 22 August 2022 (UTC)
- So would you say we should remove the dialogue from the NPC pages, and add a Template:See for the dialogue section of this page? Or keep it on both the NPCs and this page, and just make sure it is correct and matching everywhere? Heillos (talk) 07:22, 23 August 2022 (UTC)
Unlocked drops account wide[edit]
Question about after completing the collection. Once the collection and a L500 Chef character is fully completed, do the farmable, non-collection versions of the ascended herb seeds and quality red meat cuts drop for all characters, or *just* the Chef? I ask because my Chef is an alt character, and one I really don't play much of anymore at all. It would be really helpful if I could get the L500 title and collection done with him, but still be able to passively collect the ascended ingredients with my main character and/or any new characters I make in the future, and just occasionally pop back on my Chef when I need to cook more stuff. (Forgive the IP address edit. Can't log into the site here for some reason even though it tells me my info from GWW was carried over)138.229.149.176 09:16, 21 July 2023 (UTC)
- Yes, see the top of the page on completion:
- Completing the achievement permanently unlocks the following features:
- A Garden plot for the home instance. (All characters)
- Varietal versions of Cilantro, Clove, Mint, Peppercorn, and Sesame seeds will begin dropping from open-world herb nodes.
- Cuts of Quality Red Meat will begin dropping from all mobs that also drop Slabs of Red Meat.
- Completing the achievement permanently unlocks the following features:
- these apply to all characters. Dak393 (talk) 09:27, 21 July 2023 (UTC)
