How to find level, rank, and organization of an NPC?

Like in the {{NPC infobox}}, how do you find those things? -----Paw (talk) 12:04, 4 January 2017 (UTC)

Level is usually indicated in-game to the right of their health bar (between level 1-80). Rank is either left empty or has the values of "veteran", "elite", or "champion". This again is determined in game via either their name or the color of the ring around their creature icon. Gold for champion, silver for elite, bronze for veteran, and nothing for normal rank. Organization is a bit more tough, this is usually based of context where the creature/npc is found, their dialogue, and possibly other npc dialogue. Again though, this is found with in-game investigation. -Darqam 13:25, 4 January 2017 (UTC)

SAB cat article?

Do we have an article detailing how to get the Super Adventure Box cat? The Hungry cat scavenger hunt article mentions it but is overly terse. -- Dashface User Dashface.png 14:32, 13 April 2017 (UTC)

Build Number

Figured I'd ask here in case anybody else wants to know as well: exactly how does a person get the build number that's seen on patch notes/updates pages under the Wiki Notes? - Doodleplex 00:43, 27 May 2017 (UTC)

It's from the API: https://api.guildwars2.com/v2/build G R E E N E R 01:10, 27 May 2017 (UTC)
Ah, thank you! - Doodleplex 01:16, 27 May 2017 (UTC)
You can also find it in game at the bottom left corner of the options (F11) menu. 37.187.7.74 02:14, 27 May 2017 (UTC)

Heart Progress & Event Involvement

Hi! So I asked this question probably a year ago when I first started getting into Wiki editing. I got one answer, and have since gotten a different one! So I figured I would ask here and see if there can be a dialogue in order for a conclusion to come about. I tend to do testing for Hearts, that's one of the main things I do as an editor. I've encountered events that progress a Heart when completed, and I've encountered events that do not progress the Heart bar when completed, but have mobs involved with the event that do. Should event involvement for Wiki pages include events with both these scenarios, or one or the other? Depending on the answer, I'm gonna have to go back and re-check all of my Heart-related edits. Thanks for any thoughts! Muirellthe Moon Geode.png

So for events which directly update the Heart progress, it appears we have a parameter for it, | heart =. Its description on the {{event infobox}} is confusing, but I believe this is what it's for. I've updated an event page as an example.
As for events where the mobs update the heart, but not the event itself, I think that is best described on the event page. G R E E N E R 15:22, 27 June 2017 (UTC)
I've wondered the same thing, since I just updated a heart in Snowden Drifts a few days ago.I think the info is better kept on the Heart page. If someone is curious, I figure that is where the y'd go looking for it. SarielV 20 x 20px 15:30, 27 June 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for answering/discussing, you two! I'm super sorry for not responding sooner. Well... guess I am re-doing a bunch of my edits >_< It's a good thing I just made a character named "I Am Wiki Editing"! Muirellthe Moon Geode.png 22:17, 5 July 2017 (UTC)

Map Completion Maguuma edits related

With this page of the Wiki, how would be the best way to add the Maguuma required changes to make it up to date? Also any requirement on what the page MUST have? The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ank (talk) at 13:59, 12 July 2017 (UTC).

Hum, my guess at the moment would be to make a sub-section of the world completion section describing that HoT maps don't count for "regular" world completion but have their own progress+gift associated. At the moment there is the note All maps in the Heart of Maguuma region, added with the Heart of Thorns expansion. which might be good to expand on in that section, since it may lead people to think map completing HoT maps gives absolutely nothing at all.. -Darqam 15:51, 12 July 2017 (UTC)

Change Username

How can I change my username? I'd like to change it to SWVG (All caps). Thanks! Swvg (talk) 04:17, 25 July 2017 (UTC)

Generally people can ask on the admin noticeboard, but I've taken care of it. You now have a new name, with all caps. Congrats! (I think they're more valuable, right?) G R E E N E R 04:52, 25 July 2017 (UTC)

How to you sunset a trait?

A few traits were removed from the game today, how do you make the edit on the trait page to reflect that? Do you have an example Edit: nvm figured it out. Divinebaboon (talk) 03:29, 9 August 2017 (UTC)

I would add the following to the trait infobox template at the top of the trait page:
| status = historical
| status notes = Removed with the [[Game updates/2017-08-08|08 August 2017]] update.
This should produce a blue banner at the top of the page with a quaggan saying its historical. It looks like you managed perfectly. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 06:01, 9 August 2017 (UTC)

Move or sunset and create new page?

Related to the above question, some of the traits were "renamed" despite their functionality being completely changed (such as Precise Strikes going to Furious Burst). Should the old page be marked historical and a new one be made at the new page or should it be moved to the new name? --Gimmethegepgun (talk) 17:45, 9 August 2017 (UTC)

If they're just renamed, move the page - leaving a redirect behind, and stick a note at the bottom of the final page along the lines of "This trait was renamed from "abc" as part of update xyz." -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 17:55, 9 August 2017 (UTC)

Disambiguation titles

Hi. I'm new here. Can somebody tell me how I'm supposed to name articles when the title is already taken? Which type takes precedence? Do I capitalise the suffix in brackets? The example I'm looking at is "Call Lightning", which is a weaver skill, a ranger spirit skill and a ranger pet skill. I think I've done it wrong :(

Also, "Monsoon", which is a weaver skill and a weapon. I think the skill takes precendence? --Chieftain Alex (talk) 18:55, 11 August 2017 (UTC)

Generally I go by the level of importance. What would be a more popular article - a scepter or a skill from a newly-released elite specialization? As for 'Call Lightning' I'd go:
  1. Call Lightning (weaver)
  2. Call Lightning (Jacaranda)
  3. Call Lightning (ranger spirit skill/storm spirit skill/spirit skill)
Also, professions would be lowercase (uppercase only for areas and stuff that would normally be uppercase). —Ventriloquist 19:53, 11 August 2017 (UTC)

Updating skill history page

Is there a way to automate copying the current skill info box to a new entry on skill history page, maybe using the last entry in the version history for the date and patch notes? Yonnn (talk) 03:10, 12 August 2017 (UTC)

Containers and updating their inventory

I've tried adding some of the new sunspear weapons but can't seem to get the {\{contained in}} (added a backslash here so it won't be parsed) thingie to work. For example, Khadash's Riding Bow, I've added it to Identify Gear with {\{contains|Khadash's Riding Bow}} but that doesn't seem to be enough. Is there a list somewhere I have to add it as well?

also, I've seen the aquisition on some pages being described in text, instead of using the 'contained in' feature, I've updated them when I came across them so it's a bit more standardized. but I kinda wonder, should I not have done that, or is using the 'contained in' feature even the standard? Oranisagu (talk) 13:13, 13 August 2017 (UTC)

The link you provided is working fine for me now, you might have to refresh a page (via the refresh tab above any page) to see results. As for the text instead of template, in most cases it's because the item wasn't added to the container, so feel free to use the template once you've added the {{contains}} part. Also, you can use {{tl|template name}} to avoid parsing things. —Ventriloquist 13:37, 13 August 2017 (UTC)

agriculture

My question is why agricultural products are seasonal ? Mango, caahew, these are produced in one season of the year. Why is that? Can't we produce them in whole year? The preceding unsigned comment was added by 8.37.235.150 (talk).

This isn't really the right place to ask general questions about real-life. It's for questions about this wiki. I recommend reddit's Explain Like I'm Five forum instead. ;) --Idris (talk) 15:19, 12 October 2017 (UTC)

time zone

can i change the time zone thing in the top right part example (00:25:25 UTC) The preceding unsigned comment was added by Axelcool301 (talk) at 11:25, 16 October 2017‎ (UTC).

Sure you can. Whilst logged in, you can visit Special:Preferences, in the second tab named "Appearance" about halfway down is a time settings preferences box. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 17:43, 16 October 2017 (UTC)

Vendor list

If you navigate to Priory Historian Elisa page and check her items, they'll have duplicate Acquisition entries:

This also happens to Treasure Hunting Kit.
Not sure what exactly is causing this bug (or if it happens elsewhere), but I suspect it's either {{template:Vendor list}} or how items are placed inside Elisa's page (or wherever they're stored).
Also, Book of Bounty Hunter Glove Recipes is displaying a parsing error message (about Skill.png being an invalid page name) instead of "250 trading contracts". --NIN37 02:30, 17 October 2017 (UTC)

I deleted and restored Priory Historian Elisa - this is a random bug to do with subobjects that happens quite a bit on this wiki, I don't think there is anything we can really do. (this is equivalent to blanking the page and restoring the content but seems to work more often as a fix).
Not seeing an issue on the book page. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 06:29, 17 October 2017 (UTC)
Hey, thanks for the fix.
Book looks OK as well now.
It was showing a black lockpad icon (Skill.png) followed by a warning exclamation mark about something related to invalid page name and some image parameters, just like Recipe: Sunspear Rod is showing now.
http://imageshack.com/a/img922/409/7RD5I8.png
Anyway, some other NPCs showing up twice on item's page:
* Recipe: Mordant Scutum
Sometimes "Cost" information get swap (for example, 'Karma + Trade Contracts' vs 'Trade Contracts + Karma').
http://imageshack.com/a/img924/2610/9tfRXG.png
By the way, some/most Mordant recipes show empty required discipline. --NIN37 19:37, 17 October 2017 (UTC)
Hmm... seems Recipe: Mordant Scutum is a bit bugged and shows up twice for some NPCs (hence they're listed twice). Apparently, they're missing Recipe: Mordant Slicer or another weapon recipe (I couldn't check them myself; might wanna try once I get online on GW2 and have some spare time to travel around Crystal Desert).
Also, purchase cost for Recipe: Mordant Edge seems inconsistent (some NPC seems to charge twice the price). Again, not sure if wiki info is wrong/outdated or in-game price really differs from NPC to NPC. Gonna try to check these pieces of info later. --NIN37 02:20, 19 October 2017 (UTC)
It looks to me like you've fixed (by blanking and reverting) the Spearmarshal X recipes.
We can't do anything about the sequence of costs, it's randomly stored in a different sequence. We chose to separately annotate the two currencies which is better for querying (e.g. you can ask a page for any items costing Karma, or any items costing Trade Contracts), but has no position information (so in this case it could display as "50 Karma+50 Trade contracts", or "50 Trade contracts+50 Karma". -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 06:17, 19 October 2017 (UTC)
Yep. Duplicated entries seem to have been fixed by CTRL+X save CTRL+V save combo.
I Can't check Mordant/Sunspear recipes prices (and missing/duplicated entries) because I don't have required Awakened/Elonian unlocked. --NIN37 06:58, 19 October 2017 (UTC)

Correction my wiki username to match that of the game

My game name has a different suffix number than that found on the wiki. I'm certain it was my typo that caused it, but I can't find a way to fix it. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Snorri.4251 (talk) at 11:23, 9 December 2017‎ (UTC).

Heya. If you post the username that you want, one of our Bureaucrats can rename your account for you using Special:RenameUser. User:Greener is especially helpful. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 12:03, 9 December 2017 (UTC)

How to precisely control the table of contents on a page?

The page Stronghold of the Faithful contains an issue with the table of contents. The 5.3 Twisted Castle link wrongly navigates to the point of interest "Twisted Castle" in section 2, rather than the "Twisted Castle" walkthrough section. For comparison, the 5.4 Xera link correctly navigates to the "Xera" walkthrough section.

How can I resolve this issue? The TOC does not appear in the page's editable source text, and there doesn't appear to be any way to control what the TOC links point at. It's almost like this is happening just because the point of interest has the same name as the walkthrough section.

Thanks

Floraline (talk) 04:03, 30 December 2017 (UTC)

It is linking to that because of the point of interest. If you type in one of the other POIs into the address bar after the # it will scroll the page down to those. I don't know if there's a way of fixing that (I wouldn't be the one to ask) but a simple workaround would always be to name the section it's supposed to link to something slightly different so it goes to it instead of the POI --Gimmethegepgun (talk) 04:25, 30 December 2017 (UTC)
